New Obama ad hits McCain again on health care, taxes

Sen. Obama's new ad targets Sen. McCain's proposal for changing the tax treatment of health care benefits.
Sen. Obama's new ad targets Sen. McCain's proposal for changing the tax treatment of health care benefits.

(CNN) – The Obama campaign is releasing a new television ad that targets Sen. John McCain’s tax proposals relating to health care benefits.

“One Word,” a 30-second spot, focuses on McCain’s proposal to tax health care benefits that are currently not taxed. The McCain proposal would tax “your health care for the first time ever,” the announcer says. “It’s a multi-trillion dollar tax hike. The largest middle class tax increase in history,” the ad also says.

The new ad, which will begin to air nationally on Monday, was released on the same day that Sen. Barack Obama is set to give a speech focused on health care and taxes.

At a midday rally in Newport News, Virginia Saturday, Obama will call McCain’s health care tax proposal “an old Washington bait and switch” and “a shell game,” according to prepared remarks provided by the Obama campaign. “He gives you a tax credit with one hand – but raises your taxes with the other,” Obama will also say, referring to the fact that the tax credit included in McCain’s proposal will be paid to a taxpayer’s health insurance provider instead of to the taxpayer.

In a sign of how important issues economic issues like taxes and government spending have become to voters, the McCain campaign has already responded to Sen. Obama’s prepared remarks. Obama “is lying to voters,” McCain-Palin spokesman Tucker Bounds said in a statement released by the McCain campaign Saturday morning. “It’s a bald-faced lie because John McCain will improve the tax code so that middle class paychecks aren’t used to pay government bureaucrats but instead will pay for the access to health care Americans deserve,” Bounds added.

On Friday, both campaigns released new television ads that also spotlighted tax issues.

Script, "One Word," 30 seconds:

Obama voice-over: "I’m Barack Obama and I approve this message."

Announcer: "On health care, John McCain promises a tax credit.

But here’s what he won’t tell you:

McCain would impose a new tax on health benefits, taxing your health care for the first time ever.

It’s a multi-trillion dollar tax hike. The largest middle-class tax increase in history.

You won’t find one word about it on his website.

But the McCain tax could cost your family thousands.

Can you afford it?"

Will wonders ever cease? Even people in Texas are for Obama now!? Good for you, Thane! Get the word out to all of those Texans! Obama has got CT and most of New England wrapped up. McCain doesn't even bother showing his crazily powered/botoxed face in this state. No commercials, nothing. We're hoping Lieberman begins to follow suit...

I can't wait to be a proud American again!

    Go OBAMA/BIDEN!

First, ignoramous, Obama's OUR (AMERICA'S) leader not our messiah or lord. Second, I think this comment sums it up perfectly well:

velmeezee (21 minutes ago) Show Hide 0 Marked as spam Reply | Spam I thought this video was touching. I want my child to think of hope, togetherness, and positivity when she thinks of America. I don't want her to have to think of bombs, killing, and senseless destruction.
The Obama supporting children are nothing like the Hitler youth. That is a rediculously false claim. But I'm glad to have come across this video because watching those children sing was very uplifting.

Obama's "Helath care" plan – is hardly a plan – we already HAVE it –
MediCAID for the Poor – MediCARE for Seniors – so – what – exactly is he "giving" us – at our expense???
Looks like that free doctor stuff will be the first to go with the new bail-out plan.

For those Ex Hillary voters voting against Obama because of the outcome of the Michigan/Florida debacle....

You are the type of American voters who need to wake up....you cannot punish your children because you are "bitter"..yes I said it//"bitter" that your candidate didnt make it...

You cannot vote against your interest because you perceive in your minds that Obama stole the nomination

Even Hillary asked , are you in this for you or for me?

We can not once again let the Republican party swiftboat us. I am glad the campaign and the DNC is hitting back swiftly. The fact Gov Palin is discussing people from Chicago with ties to Senator Obama is incredulous particularly since she has an abuse of power case going on right now in Alaska which the McCain camp wanted to put a lid on. What about Keating 5? Can't we bring that up?

$5000 tax credit is only good for those that actually have jobs or money. The right continues to lie about healthcare, that universal healthcare does not work. When are you going to get it, you are only as strong as the weakest amongst you. How can the religious right be against universal healthcare they should ask themselves what would Jesus say??? Shame on them how they have been used by the Republicans.

McCain health care will leave everyone finding a company that would let you have a previous illness while Obama plan will take a person with preconditions. Mccain thanks but no thanks to your health care.

  17. (No Hillary = No Obama) = UNIFORMED!

"If anyone understands dirty politics, it would be Obama who learned from the under belly of Chicago-style politics. Wasn't it Obama who pulled some dirt to get himself elected by manipulating someone else's name off the ballot? McCain should run ads of that report to show there are two sides to Mr. Howdy Doody."

Dirty Politics? Aren't all politics dirty? You show me where any politician has been honest, and I have a bridge to sell you in Alaska.
McCain, and Palin included. By the way, how's that Troopergate scandal in Alaska going?

This is a actual statement and information:

Obama I personally know and, have insight on Socialized medical systems in which you're Health Care program is in fact recommending to the United States of America. This program would in fact invade and take funds away from Medicare directly that you are not telling the senior citizens, and the Disabled population.

NOW I want you and Biden to be HONEST with the public as a whole because this is a county of freedom for which men and women are serving abroad.

McCain and his eye candy are two of the most conceited people who have ever run for office. America does not deserve to have the two of them happen to us. McCain/Palin have a healthcare plan???? Please. These two people don't care anything about this country. They only want to finish ruining it.

I wonder why McCain and his "Straight Talk Express" haven't felt it was important to disclose those key details of his plan. Oh wait, it's because now he's willing to sacrifice his honor to win an election.

It's not "Country First" with McCain and Palin. It's "Me and My Campaign First." Thanks, but no thanks Sen McCain and Gov Palin!
