Palin hits Obama for 'terrorist' connection

In remarks Saturday, Gov. Palin sought to link Sen. Obama with 1970's radical William Ayers, according to a statement released by the McCain-Palin campaign.
In remarks Saturday, Gov. Palin sought to link Sen. Obama with 1970's radical William Ayers, according to a statement released by the McCain-Palin campaign.

ENGLEWOOD, Colorado (CNN) - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on Saturday slammed Sen. Barack Obama's political relationship with a former anti-war radical, accusing him of associating "with terrorists who targeted their own country."

Palin's attack delivered on the McCain campaign's announcement that it would step up attacks on the Democratic presidential candidate with just a month left before the November general election.

"We see America as the greatest force for good in this world," Palin said at a fund-raising event in Colorado, adding, "Our opponent though, is someone who sees America it seems as being so imperfect that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country."

Palin made similar comments later at a rally in Carson, California.

Obama's Chicago home is in the same neighborhood as Bill Ayers, a founder of the radical Weather Underground that was involved in several bombings in the early 1970s, including the Pentagon and the Capitol, and the two have met several times since Obama's 1995 campaign for an Illinois state senate seat.

This is bullpucky. They can't win on the issues so they turn to slander – how typical of the Republican party. Disgusting.

It's amazing that Palin has to search into the past to find some "truths". Doesn't she know these articles have not been researched and explained correctly??? As an interested neighbour,
I am mystified by how she thinks winking, and using what she "thinks" are the average American sayings will get her elected. Also isn't it the presidential candidate who runs their platforms, so how does she have the nerve to say return to Michigan. Thank heavens Michigan voters are thinking clearly. Obama/Biden in November! Heaven help the world if she should become your next Vice-President.

McSame is going on the negative. If Obama was smart the DNC would make an ad putting McSame in the middle of the S&L crisis of the late 80s. As for Palin, moveon.org should make an ad challenging her patriotism(since she and Todd want Alaska to be their own country) and ask do you want a person in the White House who believes in witchcraft complete with video. The repubs have no honor and no shame.

This woman seems to have gained confidence due to her FLAWED performance in the debates and her inability to answer questions but rather use prepared notes from Bush Advisers.

The American Public and the whole world knows that Sarah Palin does not have the intellectual make-up or the curiosity to run this country and the thoughts of her being No2 in the greatest Country in the world is simply unnerving!!!!

If the McCain/Palin campaign refuses to allow Sarah Palin to talk to reporters or appear on live news shows (except of course Fox campaign headquarters) why does this network or any responsible news agency continue to waste air time with McCain talking points. I don't think this campaign can or should be taken seriously. It looks and is acting desparate. So why does this respected news source continue to give them free airtime? From where I sit, everytime McCain accuses news agencies of anything, those same news agencies caves in. The more McCain tries to separate himself from George Bush, but more he mirrors his campaign, almost action for action.

Wow. Palin picked up a newspaper a read the headline, but obviously not the entire article herself or did she have to be told what to think.

John McCain and Sarah Palin are launching despicable and false personal attacks because they have no plan to help our faltering economy. Shame on them both!

  11. It is Obama-Biden in 2008 and 2012

Everyone who has half a brain already know that this kind of nasty tactic of McCain-Palin is a FALSEHOOD and has been debunked many times. But I guess if one has an evil heart, if one is unqualified to be VP and president, and whose campaign is in the toilet; then I guess it's the only thing one can try to dig up.

    This evil unqualified ticket – McCain-Palin – is a disgrace !

The Obama/Biden Spokesman is absolutely correct in his statements!
This is OLD news that surfaced at the beginning of the Campaign and died a quick death. If William Ayers is a Terrorist why is he currently holding a position at the Chicago University as a Professor? Or at least the last time I checked that was the current update!

John McCain should be ashamed of himself and his Campaign. The man who stated he was going to run a clean Campaign has reverted to using the sleeziest tactics in Campaign history. And Americans thought Hillary using dirty attacks!

Along with McCain's lies and his selfish attempt to garner sympathy through repetitious monologues about his pow experience he's illuminated to the world that he has Zero credibility, Zero integrity, a warped mind, a dangerous lack of concern for his Country in choosing his VP, a platform that bears no relevance too the problems facing Americans today,no knowledge in the economic field and has now proven he has no backbone!! He is so spineless he had to send his inexperienced Pit Bull into the Ring to deliver his slanderous accusations!

And let's be truthful, accusations is all they are, all they ever have been and that's already been proven months ago! So, John McCain and his Pit Bull not only look truly weak and pathetic but have just written their own Campaign Headline – FEAR Rises in the Republican Camp! Shame on McCain!

Obamas character should be looked at more closely. He can't believe his luck with the ecoonomy. He isn't one bit sorry because it will help him win. If he is elected, it will not help Black Americans or jobless Americans. Wait and see, there will be a huge backlash within the first year.

I wish the media would cull out these phony charges and refuse to report on stories made up to create mistrust in either of our presidential or vice presidential candidates; realizing they (the ones we select) are going to have a very difficult time when they take charge of our welfare without having to try to undo the negative images the press helped to achieve.

Please, press reporters, we need you now to help us come together as a nation, more so now than ever in my lifetime.

    It's a change we need.

This is McPain act of desperation to distract people from issues. McBush/McPain campaign is a joke – moving from one drama to another.

Anyway, it appears Americans are not going to be distracted by these jokers.

Go America, make McBush/McPain an accident of history and vote for real change Obama/Biden.

McCain and Palin are insulting the US public with their stunts and gambits. We aren't morons, and we know well how to judge how close people are to each other.

For instance: Obama is not close to Ayers.

McCain lets the lobbyists who screwed up our economy run his campaign.

Who is friends with terrorists, again?

    October 4, 2008 05:17 pm at 5:17 pm |
  22. Madeleine

Umm, the NYT article pretty much discredited the idea that Obama and Ayers have ever been close (although the two have occasionally encountered each other and served in organizations together). Did Palin READ the article?

The article also describes Ayres as a sort of rehabilitated radical who has done a tremendous amount of good in his community since his horrible acts 40 years ago (When Obama was what? "In, like, second grade" as Governor Palin would say).

The desperation of the McCain campaign is really showing.

Let's brace ourselves because when the republicans are behind, they pull out all the lies and make up the most outrageous dirt. They can't fight fairly because they have no self-respect or integrity. These are not the people we want in the White House. We've had 8 years of lies and mismanagement. We don't need another four.

Sarah, is that the best thing that you got??? That is soooooo old news, and was never proven that they influence him at all. Here is a tip for you "Cheney with lipstick" – TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU CAN REALLY DO TO IMPROVE THE ECONOMY, NOT THE USUAL LESS TAXES TALKING POINTS CRAP.

It is only a month to go, be constructive, be specific and yes, BE HONEST.
