(CNN) - Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Joe Biden is cancelling his campaign events for Saturday and Sunday as his mother-in-law battles a serious illness.

The Senator from Delaware's campaign spokesman, David Wade, put out a statement saying "the campaign has cancelled Sen. Biden's schedule today and tomorrow because of a serious illness in Jill Biden's family. Hospice has advised the Bidens to remain close by, and we appreciate everyone's respect for the family's privacy."

Wade is referring to Biden's wife's mother, Bonny Jacobs, who is in a hospice in Pennsylvania.

Biden was scheduled to speak in Washington D.C. and then attend a fund-raiser in the nation's capitol Saturday night. Sunday he was expected to campaign in Virginia.

    Senator Biden

You moved me with your emotional story about being a single parent at the debate. While watching you speak, I realize how very real and authentic you are, not to mention what an amazing father and husband you are as well. Those deep rooted family values that you and Barack bring will take this country into the new century with confidence. What many people forget is that you had disability in problems with stuttering and clearly over time you found a way to manage that and still become one of the greatest debaters of our time. What a true hero. Senator, it will be our honor to salute you and Barack as the new leaders of the mostpowerful in the country in the world. We are thinking of you and your family during this trying time.

He knows where his priorities are. what about the hyperactive VP candidate with a Down's infant? as the father of a genetically handicapped son, I don't see how she thinks she can take care of her baby and run the country. we were two parents who did not manage much else for several years...
