New Obama ad tries to focus nation's attention on the economy

The Obama campaign released another Sunday that has economic themes.
The Obama campaign released another Sunday that has economic themes.

(CNN) – With a month until Election Day, the Obama campaign is trying keep voters’ attention focused on their pocketbooks and retirement savings accounts.

In “This Year,” the latest in a string of Obama ads with economic themes, the Democratic nominee uses images of locked factory gates and anxiety on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. “Erratic in a crisis. Out of touch on the economy,” the ad says as images of Sen. John McCain getting off an airplane and riding a golf cart appear on screen.

The commercial comes amid talk of McCain preparing to adopt a more aggressive strategy in the final month of the general election campaign, first reported Saturday in the Washington Post.

“Struggling families can’t turn the page on this economy,” the ad says.

The McCain campaign has not responded to CNN's request for comment about "This Year."

The new ad will begin airing Monday on national cable outlets, according to the Obama campaign.

(Full script after the jump)

Script, "This Year," 30 seconds, national cable:

ANNCR: Three quarters of a million jobs lost this year.

Our financial system in turmoil.

And John McCain? Erratic in a crisis. Out of touch on the economy.

No wonder his campaign’s announced a plan to “turn a page on the financial crisis”…distract with dishonest, dishonorable “assaults” against Barack Obama.

Struggling families can’t turn the page on this economy…and we can’t afford another President who’s this out of touch.

Obama: I’m Barack Obama and I approve this message.

Keep it up Obama. Hit 'em where the truth is.
All Palin and McCain can say now, are lies and misleading statements about you because they have nothing else left to run on.
America is starting to put it all together, and they are coming out for the Obama/Biden ticket. Now all they have left is their smear tactics.
They are going down, and going down fast. :)

if issues are not the critical platform in this election then the last eight years did not give enough lessons and it might just be ok to go through the lessons once more. it sounds sickening.

You know it should would be nice if McCain/Palin would actually focus on what is important to the American People. All of this mess about Obama has been out there since the primaries. All of these questions have been asked and answered by Obama and the campaign. All of these rumors have been vetted and debunked by every major news agency out there. It is time for the McCain campaign to talk about the issues and stop trying to change the subject.

How disturbing it is to read of John McCain and Sarah Palin and their recycled and lame attempt to connect Barack Obama to William Ayers. Palin states Obama is "palling around with terrorists." What's even more outrageous than the utter stupidity of their bogus claim, is that McCain and Palin show more concern for Obama meeting Ayers than they do for this "terrorist" who is actively employed in Illinois and teaching at a Chicago university. I guess they aren't too worred about terrorists.

Sounds like the McCain camp has its priorities intact.

A dismal display of desperation by McCain's campaign, but not the least bit surprising.

I mean what else do you expect from McCain? He's old and gripping to whatever life line he can reach.. And guess what's right there?....the same old swiftboat, fear-based tactics... "Obama is the other", He supports terrorists"- these are the exact things that non-thinking Americans want to hear to help them make the decision they were leaning towards anyway. Voting for McCain. McCain is for simple minded people and oil companies........

I can't wait for November 4th. This is going to be the year that America takes back the Whitehouse and gathers even more strength in Congress.

Republicans should be spending their time writing their concession speeches because they know good lies take time to write! What a joke it is that people will vote Republican simply because of two principles; "Right to Life" and "Anti Gay Rights". The Republicans are supposed to be the "conservatives", which is only true if you consider they're conservative in helping "Main Street". Why won't McCain address "This Year"? Because there is no way to address it without admitting failure!

The last 8 years have been the worst 8 years this country has experienced since the "Great Depression". We need Barack and Biden it's America's ONLY chance to come out of the "Fog" that Bush & Cheney have brought over this country.

When a Christian is being helped through a crisis they're guided to clarity so they can see clearly what negative influences (in their life) have contributed to the crisis. America is starting to see through the "veils" of deceit the Republicans have draped over them for the last 8 years and they realize that for the first time in 48 years there's hope and promise on the horizon again. That hope and promise is Barack Obama and Joe Biden and they will guide America out of the "fog" back to prosperity! Please vote for Barack Obama and Joe Biden!

McCain and Palin are losers. They cannot discuss issues that affect the nation. INstead they have resorted to same "divisive fear and smear" tactics that Bush resorted too. Now I guess people will be understand what Obama stated when McCain is same as Bush

That's right! Stick to the issues! Don't stoop to the low level of the McCain/Palin campaign. For a person that said he wouldn't campaign at this level, his campaign has had more mud slinging than a pig pen.

BILL CLINTON and ROBERTA ACHTENBERG are to blame for this economic crisis.

They forced the banks to lower their lending standards so that poor people could buy houses by playing the race card.

Another failure of Democrats attempts at social engineering.

So much for not trying to be a 3rd Bush term McCain/Palin. This seems very familiar to someone who experienced 8 years of this crap.

America won't fall for this again. We're tired of being fearful and we're ready to have hope again. Also, bad call on telling us what you're going to do in a news release. Kind of takes away the "believablity" factor of anything you say next.

McCain/Palin = I'm tired of everyone talking about my weak points, so I'm going to call the other person names. Welcome to middle school again everyone.

If the root cause of the credit/liquidity problem is mortgage sub prime lending, Fannie – Freddie stock, and mortgage-related hedge funds, then Barney Frank (D-MA) is the chief culprit still standing in my view. It will be interesting to see what his constituents say on Nov 4th.

I'm amazed that there are people who will support McSame/Pain until the end of the world no matter how much they do! Stick to the facts. There are people making comments agreeing with this terrorist crap and instead of checking the facts and keeping their mouths shut, they just repeat the same old BS.

No wonder they are supporting that ticket. They just repeat whatever they are told. PLEASE TELL ME SOMETHING WITH SUBSTANCE!!

What's the McCain plan? What is he planning to do for the economy? Why did he vote for a bailout bill that has earmarks in it when he vowed he would veto them as president.

Let's make HIM famous!! Vote Obama/Biden! McCain will be famous for making a fool out of himself!

When you have nothing to say you say nothing. The McCain/Palin ticket is an unfortunate representation of one of our major American political parties. Reading off of note cards, winking and unbecoming personal attack behavior is not enough. This is a sad day in American governance when that ticket represents one half of the best America can consider. The Obama/Biden ticket certainly has imperfections, but they communicate their proposed programs and policies in an appropriate manner for consideration by the American public.
