New Obama ad tries to focus nation's attention on the economy

The Obama campaign released another Sunday that has economic themes.

The Obama campaign released another Sunday that has economic themes.

(CNN) – With a month until Election Day, the Obama campaign is trying keep voters’ attention focused on their pocketbooks and retirement savings accounts.

In “This Year,” the latest in a string of Obama ads with economic themes, the Democratic nominee uses images of locked factory gates and anxiety on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. “Erratic in a crisis. Out of touch on the economy,” the ad says as images of Sen. John McCain getting off an airplane and riding a golf cart appear on screen.

The commercial comes amid talk of McCain preparing to adopt a more aggressive strategy in the final month of the general election campaign, first reported Saturday in the Washington Post.

“Struggling families can’t turn the page on this economy,” the ad says.

The McCain campaign has not responded to CNN's request for comment about "This Year."

The new ad will begin airing Monday on national cable outlets, according to the Obama campaign.

(Full script after the jump)

Script, "This Year," 30 seconds, national cable:

ANNCR: Three quarters of a million jobs lost this year.

Our financial system in turmoil.

And John McCain? Erratic in a crisis. Out of touch on the economy.

No wonder his campaign’s announced a plan to “turn a page on the financial crisis”…distract with dishonest, dishonorable “assaults” against Barack Obama.

Struggling families can’t turn the page on this economy…and we can’t afford another President who’s this out of touch.

Obama: I’m Barack Obama and I approve this message.

Let's see, country in financial turmoil, war on 2 fronts, people can't afford health care nor send their kids to college, companies laying off people by the thousands and McCain/Palin have no idea or plan on what to do if they were in charge. They do have all kinds of plans on how to deceive and lie to the America people in order to distract anyone from considering Obama's well thought out plans of moving the country in a different direction. Feels like and smells like the same plans Bush/Cheney put on us.

obama will try to focus on anything except his connections to terrorists! he is stealing the election in ohio, by raiding homeless shelters, and using any fraudulent means he can to rig the election in his favor. obama fails to produce a valid birth certificate to the phila. pa court, instead the dnc is trying to have the case dismissed. he has a terrorist lawyer representing him in that case, famous for silencing critics of islam. we have domestic terrorist bernadine, and bill ayers, felon rezko, the columbia prof, who brought iran's president here, auchi, who worked for saddam hussein, rev. wright, louis farrakhan, and father phleger. with friends like this, i guess he would want to keep talking about the economy!

I keep seeing in the media that Obama benefits in the polls from the troubles in the economy - maybe, but I think that people start paying attention in October in every election cycle and this time around there is a clear difference. McCain/Palin often do not answer questions directly. McCain tries to turn every issue into an argument about the surge and Palin wants to let us know that she is from a state with oil under it. Obama/Biden have shown themselves to be thoughtful, hardworking and legitimate. Actually, I'm proud to be an American - when the chips are down, we're really not as stupid as Rarl Rove, Hannity (RNC), etc. would like to think we are.

    To the first comment:
Making outrageous statements attacking Obama is not going to win over voters. Enjoy your sinking ship.

I would love to turn the page on the economy, but I've got bills to pay.

McCain is a moron, and Barack will win in November.

Here we go again lies and deceit from the McCain camp. I thought he was going to run a clean race! These republicans can't seem to tolerate anything that is good and right. Even Sara Pain only tolerates people born with genetic defects and live in the gray world. What a perfect world Sara lives in WOW! Vote for Obama.

Fact Check: Would McCain's health plan leave people 'broke?'
The Verdict: Misleading. Obama cites one figure from a recent study. But the same study says the current average worker contribution for employer-provided family insurance coverage is $3,354 — less than McCain's tax credit. Another obama lie.

Didn't John McCain say that he wasn't going to run a negative campaign? If he can't keep a campaign promise that basic, then how in the world can he be trusted to keep any other campaign promise that he makes? These attacks on Obama just make him seem more like the bully that he really is.

Me, my vote is going for the guy with 1 car, 1 house, 1 wife and a plan to get us out of the economic mess that we're in.

I swear to God I've been saying to anyone that will listen, that Sarah's ambition has always been to be famous. She's using politics as a "happened upon" vehicle. Her ignorance about foreign policy and national government has become painfully obvious!
Let's vote country first and send her back to local politics.

BO, thank you for continuing to try to focus this election on issues that matter to all of us.

McCain and Palin continue to spout lies, smears and misrepresentations in an effort to prevent the American voting public from realizing that they have NO good answers for the challenges that we face.

No Way, No How, No McCain/Palin

and to #24...Democrats Trust McCain, you are the type of person who shouldn't be allowed to vote. You take as fact the lies that McCain and Palin feed you, no matter how much those lies are factchecked and found to be erroneous. Get a clue, please.

McCain makes national decisions very impusively – by rolling the dice. When a crisis hits, McCain panics and starts offering ultimatums. I only see anger with his campaign. There is no leadership qualities with McCain.

HOW DARE Sen Obama focus on the issues that Americans are concerned about! He is supposed to be digging up stuff on McCain and Palin and 'swiftboating" them right now as we speak. Hasn't he learned anything from the McCain/Palin ticket by now? You can really tell you have a rookie running for office here. Focusing on the issues INDEED!! What the heck is wrong with you Sen Obama?

Mccain will provide us with about as much information on the issues as Palin provided us during her VP debate. That being next to nothing. I have a question referring to Maccain's judgement, why would you choose a running mate the has probably not even read the U.S. Constitution.

Hey Palin haw about the fact that you are sleeping with a radical separatist who wants to break up the country and destroy America.

Your relationship with Todd a know and documented radial separatist is well documented. That is not the America i believe in Sarah.

Great props to Republicans who have become so disheartened by the disgusting tactics and shocking lack of real policy from McCain and Palin that they will be voting for Obama. You people will help to save your nation from the unmitigated disaster that another Republican administration would cause. I salute you all.

I would just like to have Palin answer questions – without the memorize lines and evading questions that apparently she doesn't know. She performed at the debate and I can't take that away from her! She performed and poor Joe was left standing their trying to get her to challenge him on issues and all she did was perform her memorize lines and let the world know she was changing the Dictionary term of debating and she managed to do so – right in front of the world. Wink! Wink! Spouting off political gibberish in front of the world without knowing what she was even speaking about was a disgrace. Sarah you can't gain an adequate understanding of history in a few weeks and articulate it to the public – didn't they tell you that...You can't change the debate rules... I know First Dude throught you guys where going to fool the world but you are not in the tiny town of Alaska – The world is watching... Tell Todd he can't advise you on the national level by sitting in on debates, interviews and being cc'd on emails so he can tell you how to respond. This is not American Idol didn't someone tell you that! Your performance was horrible at the debate. You are not in "candyland" this is America and it's real...........

The polls are showing that the American People understands the much needed CHANGE that Obama’s ticket will bring to this country. His rival just attack and attack Obama because he doesn't have anything substantial to say! At the VP debate Biden's rival also just attack and attack she didn't respond to questions; it was like she was doing a speech instead of a debate! She says what comes to her head and disregards the subject at hand. Can you imagine how would any problem be resolved if they can even focus on the subject?

Obama wants to dialog with world leaders and find solution to our differences. His rival wants to spread more hatred!

The thought of McCain picking Sarah so that he can become president makes my blood boil. Anyone who would put this great country in the hands of what amounts to a 17 year old, is an idiot. I hope he pays dearly for that selfish decision.

I admire Republicans who are standing up against Sarah Palin, and putting their country before politics.
