Obama accuses McCain of looking for distractions

Sen. Obama slammed Sen. McCain's health care plan at a campaign event in North Carolina Sunday.
Sen. Obama slammed Sen. McCain's health care plan at a campaign event in North Carolina Sunday.

(CNN) - Sen. Barack Obama on Sunday charged that Sen. John McCain's campaign is launching "Swift boat-style attacks" on him instead of addressing the country's problems.

Watch: Obama fights back

"Sen. McCain and his operatives are gambling that they can distract you with smears rather than talk to you about substance. They'd rather try to tear our campaign down than lift this country up," Obama said at an event in Asheville, North Carolina.

"That's what you do when you're out of touch, out of ideas, and running out of time," he said.

The comments come a day after Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, McCain's running mate, claimed that Obama associated "with terrorists who targeted our own country."

The McCain campaign shot back on Sunday, saying its accusations are "true facts," and not "smears."

"The last four weeks of this election will be about whether the American people are willing to turn our economy and national security over to Barack Obama, a man with little record, questionable judgment, and ties to radical figures like unrepentant domestic terrorist William Ayers," McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said in a statement.

Fact Check: Would McCain's health plan leave people 'broke?'
The Verdict: Misleading. Obama cites one figure from a recent study. But the same study says the current average worker contribution for employer-provided family insurance coverage is $3,354 — less than McCain's tax credit. Another obama lie.

You betcha. What did anyone really expect for the RNC? Positive messages, issues oriented campaigning, solutions, or any kind of hope? Nope. I expect it to get low down and dirty, and the RNC and McVain will lead the charge into the filthiest, lie-infested swamp they can because they are loosing.

When you are a public figure, you will come to know many races and many people of diverse background. So, I am not surprised. The important thing is that Obama does not have a record of sending 4000 people to die. He also doesnt have a record of trashing an entire world economy down the toilets of GREED.

Do you get the feeling that, if Obama had set the bombs himself, his supporters would have excused his actions as those of a freedom fighter for America?

    Not this time McCain-Palin

And since when McCain and Palin got authority to question a court decision that cleared Ayers who is now a professor at a reputed university. Palin should also address the trooper gate allegations per court directives and answer the sub poenas and submit to the law of the land.

And if I were Mr. Ayers I would sue McCain and Palin for defamation
considering that the court cleared me of the charges

Republicans always go above the law and want others to submit to law.

    Go Obama/Biden

  16. McGimmick's gimmick FAILED!

Another failed racist attempt by the McCain Campaign. They plant the seeds, deny any part in the matter then watch the tree grows from those seeds.

I am tired of McCain racist negative attacks. For a person who claims to be so patriotic I now see his erratic and imbalance temperament has now leaked into the campaign trail as he desperately tries to take the focus off of the economy.

I wouldn't have thought he would have to even point this out.

The entire McCain campaign is one continuous attempt to divert attention from his positions and the problems that we face.

McCain can't honestly defend his record or his positions. That makes him worse than out of touch.

    It makes him a coward.

The GOP still do not understand what is happening in this country. They just don't get it! The American people are tired of them. They have practically ruined us. Thankfully Obama want's to cleanup this mess.

No weapon formed against Obama shall prosper. This too will backfire. This was a grounds up movement. God Bless America.

Spreading fear and smear when you have nothing else. The Bush economic policies that will be continued to be upheld by the McCain administration will do nothing to help the working people of this country. I ask Tucker Bounds to please provide an economic policy and more importantly specifics! You do neither yourself, your campaign, or the American people a service with this garbage.

The really sad part of all of this is that it is not only Sen. McCain, it's Gov. Palin playing right into it as well as the RNC taking their own route. If they put half the effort into addressing the real issues of this country, they would probably have a real race going instead of these last ditch efforts.
