Obama accuses McCain of looking for distractions

Sen. Obama slammed Sen. McCain's health care plan at a campaign event in North Carolina Sunday.
Sen. Obama slammed Sen. McCain's health care plan at a campaign event in North Carolina Sunday.

(CNN) - Sen. Barack Obama on Sunday charged that Sen. John McCain's campaign is launching "Swift boat-style attacks" on him instead of addressing the country's problems.

Watch: Obama fights back

"Sen. McCain and his operatives are gambling that they can distract you with smears rather than talk to you about substance. They'd rather try to tear our campaign down than lift this country up," Obama said at an event in Asheville, North Carolina.

"That's what you do when you're out of touch, out of ideas, and running out of time," he said.

The comments come a day after Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, McCain's running mate, claimed that Obama associated "with terrorists who targeted our own country."

The McCain campaign shot back on Sunday, saying its accusations are "true facts," and not "smears."

"The last four weeks of this election will be about whether the American people are willing to turn our economy and national security over to Barack Obama, a man with little record, questionable judgment, and ties to radical figures like unrepentant domestic terrorist William Ayers," McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said in a statement.

Yes, we all heard this talking point from the desperate conservatives on the talk shows this morning. When Obama was in Ayers's living room, it was the living room of an education reformer and a revered professor of English. Obama had been brought there by his political mentor as a sort of coming-out event. Ayers had long since rehabilitated his reputation and was/is an upstanding member of the Chicago community and has been contributing positively to society for decades.

John McCain should understand better than anyone else that people's lives have second, third, even fourth acts.

So Obama was in the guy's living room? So??? You seem to be suggesting that Obama should have vetted Ayers more than McCain did Palin!

    To Scott L.

You mark my words.. the republicans are pulling everything from their B.....tts to distract Obama's momentum. You know you don't succeed with dirty attacks. What comes around goes around. I hope that Obama proves you and everyone that HATES him for no reason other than the fact that he is Bl_ck.

Obama don't let them distract you!

Does Obama ever offer even one solutions to the Economic crisis?

Never, side a sidliner, never has a SOLUTION to anything. Just a talker.

His idea of solving the world's problems, is to talk.

If that doesn't work, then lets' significantly increase the taxes of our businessess and individuals, so that fewer of us are employed and more have to rely on government to pay our rent.

His idea for all the problems is to throw our hard earned money at them. Since when has government helped when they get more involved in anything. Socialism doens't work

McCain will at least do something, and not just point fingers and look in the past.

OBAMA DOESN'T GIVE A HOOT ABOUT THE FUTURE OTHER THAN HIS OWN AMBITIONS. NAME ONE SOLUTIONS HE HAS GIVEN THE AMERICAN PEOPLE FOR THE ECONOMIC CRISIS OR FOR ANYTHING. His idea of a solution is to talk about what he wouldn't have done in the past. Fine, so what will you do for the future? Answer from Obama: I don't want you to learn what I would do, I just want your vote by me saying what I won't do for the future. What a weak empty suit sleazebag.

I care about the future and that is why I am voting for McCain and Palin.

Perhaps McCain would like to open an investigation as to what happened on the deck of the USS Forrestal in 1967, or his violation of the military code of conduct for prisoners, or his involvement in the Keating 5 scandal, or the circumstances surrounding his adultery, marital misconduct and divorce. Heck yeah, let's investigate this guy!!!!

I guess the people blogging on here are really open and fair. Those talking trash about Obama, I don't here you talking about Palin trying to be above the law with her investigation or how McCain said he would not run this type of campaign. Ask yourself why they weren't bringing this up a month ago. Get real, it desparation time. That's the only reason they're trying this tactic.

Why isn't McCain and Palin talking about the issue the country wants
to talk about. Because they don't have any answers.

The minute Palin shows up for her court hearing then she can throw stones. That Gee yaw winking crap is not cute

Of course Palin's comment is a distraction! Obama knows about desperation and distractions. They are the ones who did their best to smear the Clintons. Remember, they were the ones to turn Bill into a racist and they are the ones who were behind spreading HIllary's Bosnia lie AND her RFK remark. I find it comical that Obama want to complain about the very same tactics that he and his campaign used against Clinton!!

    This is absolutely PRICELESS!

From the look on McCain's face, something's flowin…(Sorry, it's just so blatant)
It's obvious why McCain chose Sarah to be his running mate….I have to wonder if Cindy sees the same things in these photographs as the rest of us? What a Perv..

AWWW, poor McSilly & Sarah Pathetic!
He just wants to rise to a better position in life before he dies. His Dad & granddad were high ranking military officials, McSilly was not.
Here is his only chance of becoming something bigger than they were.
And then there's Sarah...what can you say?
Someone told her that she has a chance to actually be President. McSilly will 'gracefully' disappear due to medical reasons. Then VOILA...Madame Prez she would be!

Ok America it's time to get serious, neither of these nutjobs need to hold office. Get over your 'discomfort' accepting a Black man as President! It can't be any worse that the current White man, that has thrown our hard earned money out the window & to the Iraqi people, among others.

Palin is like a pesky snag in a good sweater.......she just keeps unraveling all the good that women before her have done,

The suffragists are rolling in their graves.

HILLARY needs to speak out and put the"hockey mom" in her place. Obviously no man will be able to call her on the carpet.

McCain is hillarious these days. He talks about how important judgement is over experience and how he'll bring about Change. He tries to pressure the judicial system in Alaska to halt the probe into Palin's abuse of power until after the election, and I for one would like to know if it's true that Sarah Palin had an affair with her husband's business partner, making both her and McCain morally corrupt. McCain knows a thing or two about affairs and running a dirty campaign that's void of honesty and full of hypocricy.
