(CNN) - Sen. Barack Obama on Sunday charged that Sen. John McCain's campaign is launching "Swift boat-style attacks" on him instead of addressing the country's problems.

"Sen. McCain and his operatives are gambling that they can distract you with smears rather than talk to you about substance. They'd rather try to tear our campaign down than lift this country up," Obama said at an event in Asheville, North Carolina.
"That's what you do when you're out of touch, out of ideas, and running out of time," he said.
The comments come a day after Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, McCain's running mate, claimed that Obama associated "with terrorists who targeted our own country."
The McCain campaign shot back on Sunday, saying its accusations are "true facts," and not "smears."
"The last four weeks of this election will be about whether the American people are willing to turn our economy and national security over to Barack Obama, a man with little record, questionable judgment, and ties to radical figures like unrepentant domestic terrorist William Ayers," McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said in a statement.

Trying to smear Obama because he served on some board with Ayers is equivalent to smearing McCain because he served in the same organization with Larry Craig, Ted Stevens, Tom Delay and Mark Foley. The main difference, however, is that Ayers realized the error of his ways and became a respectable citizen 25 years ago. The same thing can't be said for McCain's cohorts in the US Senate and House.

I can't wait for the extreme liberal left to attack McCain for preparing for his debate with the inferior opponent. Obviously they are worshiping Obama. Instead of talking about Bidens 14 serious mistakes in his debate, they want to talk about Palen's 2 minor mistakes (mispronounced a name!). Instead of saying "Palen won the debate because she sounded better" just they do with Obama, they say "Biden had the edge because he has experience" yet the hypocrites don't apply that to McCain.

McCain has been looking for distractions from the real issues since Obama won his primary. The big whopper distraction started with his choice of the winking beauty queen who he barely knew. There are many smart, qualified Republican women he could have called upon. Instead, he goes to a sexist, tired tactic-sex sells. He's been spiraling down since.
Now, thanks to "Sarah Six Pack" , who thinks it's cute to talk in an unintelligible manner, the door to personal attacks has been opened. Could she and McCain explain how a man who cheated on his injured first wife with a young heiress be a man of character? Could she truthfully explain the term Keating 5? Is it true that she is married to a man who wants Alaska to secede from the U.S.? Perhaps or perhaps not, her former brother-in-law was a brute, but does that give her the right to abuse her power to retaliate by firing this man's boss?
I am counting on the MSM to keep digging up the facts on all these candidates. Also, if Sarah Palin keeps hiding from the press, I think like others that her events should not be covered. Why should she be able to launch false attacks but not answer to the American people?
