Obama accuses McCain of looking for distractions

Sen. Obama slammed Sen. McCain's health care plan at a campaign event in North Carolina Sunday.
Sen. Obama slammed Sen. McCain's health care plan at a campaign event in North Carolina Sunday.

(CNN) - Sen. Barack Obama on Sunday charged that Sen. John McCain's campaign is launching "Swift boat-style attacks" on him instead of addressing the country's problems.

Watch: Obama fights back

"Sen. McCain and his operatives are gambling that they can distract you with smears rather than talk to you about substance. They'd rather try to tear our campaign down than lift this country up," Obama said at an event in Asheville, North Carolina.

"That's what you do when you're out of touch, out of ideas, and running out of time," he said.

The comments come a day after Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, McCain's running mate, claimed that Obama associated "with terrorists who targeted our own country."

The McCain campaign shot back on Sunday, saying its accusations are "true facts," and not "smears."

"The last four weeks of this election will be about whether the American people are willing to turn our economy and national security over to Barack Obama, a man with little record, questionable judgment, and ties to radical figures like unrepentant domestic terrorist William Ayers," McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said in a statement.

Please – Obama is a distraction, who the DNC bamboozled into his spot. America does not need or want a sleaze lawyer like BO in office. His foolish followers are ready to follow him off a cliff because their are blinded by his flash of celebrity. They are not wise enough to see he is a wolf in sheep's clothing. His racist church, terrorist pals, and back room sleaze deals with shady businesses are loathsome. Looking forward to BO being out of the political spotlight and the O-Kids can have him on daytime t.v. come November.

I don't care who you support. The notion that any campaign would link low enough to inject smears and racial slurs into politics is disturbing. Not only has this claim been proven false and baseless, it is another way to point out differences within the American people. Focusing on such lies is just another way to divert attention and ignite the issue of race once more. Quite honestly, I am disgusted by the turn this presidential race is taking. What happened to instilling unity in people and genuinely presenting solutions?

STACY: APPARENTLY YOU HAVE OERLOOKED THE MONEY McCAIN HAS ACCEPTED FRON FOREIGN PARTIES. THE SMEARS, LIES AND DISTRACTION ARE DISGUSTING AND SHOW THAT THE ONLY WAY REPUBLICAN KNOW HOW TO WORK TOWARD IMPROVING NUMBERS IS TO PLAY DIRTY. McCAIN WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A SYMBOL OF HONOR AND EVEN I AS AN OBAMA SUPPORTER RESPECTED THE MAN AND THOUGHT THAT EVEN IF McCAIN WAS IN THE OFFICE IT WOULD BE SO BAD.

BOOOOOY HAVE MY VIEWS HAVE CHANGED!!! McCAIN AND HIS CAMPAIGN LACKS HONOR. BUT I GUESS THAT'S WHAT HAPPEN WHEN YOU USE THE SAME PEOPLE WHO BACK IN 2000 TOLD PEOPLE McCAIN HAD AN ILLEGIMATE BLACK BABY – OF COURSE SPEAKING ABOUT THE DAUGHTER THEY ADOPTED. AS THEY SAY, YOU LIE WITH DOGS, YOU ARE BOUND TO HAVE FLEAS.

    DISGUSTING...

It amazes me, that people who can hate others because of the color of their skin, their religious beliefs, their sexual preferance, etc., can have the nerve to sit in judgement of others, judge not, least ye be judged. Those who judge don't matter, those who matter don't judge, and Mcain and his supporters do not matter!

McShame/Failin should both take a good hard look in the mirror and ask themselves if this is really the road they want to walk down. If that's the case, they don't need to look any further than their own back yards to find their own dirty dealings. I'm sure the Obama/Binden campaign can find enough of their own "facts" such as Keating 5, and there's the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac "former consultant" who is currently working on McShame's campaign AND as recently as this August 08 was collecting $15,000 a month from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Look it all up, its true! The last thing Obama wants to do is detract away from the issues, he knows the country doesn't want to hear the BS, but because McShame and his "Gee Shucks" Sidekick show have proven they "GOT NOTHIN", they want to discredit a good man. Shame on you McSLIME and FAILIN. They are both betting they can get the country to bite on the Republican ticket once again, they may be right since we were stupid enough to vote in Bush for 2 consecutive terms. Not this time! Not me! You have screwed this country enough and if God Forbid McSLIME and FAILIN get voted in again, it won't be because they were the best choice, it will be because Americans are just that stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama is the major distraction to the good of the next presidency. He is saying all that his foolish followers want to hear, knowing in his heart that he cannot deliver because at least 1/2 this country already has decided to stop him.

McCain what are you doing? You have made your campaign into a "win at all cost" strategy game. We the voters were so excited when you and Obama won your primary campaigns, you both promised to have a clean campaign just the issues and no mud throwing, what happened to that? The first strike was McCain celebrity ad. McCain don't you remember when Bush did that dirty campaign strategy on you, and Bush won, now you have as your strategy team the same people that Bush hired to go after you, " Win at all cost" huh?

Accusations=Accused=Allegations. These are NOT accusations or allegations, these are the hard facts Mr. Barack Hussein Obama. Evidently, you think that people do not care about your character, but they do and the people you surrounded yourself with formed your views of this country. I cannot think of another presidential candidate who surrounded themselves with the likes of Bill Ayers, Tony Rezko or Jeremiah Wright, other than Bill Clinton. The truth hurts Mr. Obama.

  24. McCain-Palin are LIARS !

Old stale tried and failed dirty politics of McCain-Palin has reared it's ugly head again. No worries the American people will surely reject them once again. It's ALL about the economy stupid !

Everyone who has half a brain already know that this kind of nasty tactic of McCain-Palin is a LIE and has been debunked many times. But I guess if one has an evil heart, if one is unqualified to be VP and president, and whose campaign is in the toilet; then I guess it's the only thing one can try to dig up and make every effort to try to turn the page on the economy.

So if they want to focus their attention and energy in this direction, then I hope ALL of the American people will completely reject them.
I am glad Obama is revealing truths and staying focused on what the American people need !

The America people will definitely have a real clear choice – to vote for a campaign [ Bush-McCain-Palin ] that focuses on LIES, rather that putting forth an economic plan that will benefit the lives of the America people, and put the country on a better path. Or vote for the ticket [ Obama-Biden ] that has manintained focused on an economic plan and vision to bring prosperity and justice to ALL of the American people and NOT just the wealthy and well connected.

It's time for the American people to get it right and NOT vote for McCain-Palin, instead vote for change. It's time for this country to turn the page and seek a new and better future for ourselves and our children. It's time for REAL change in Washington, it's time to elect Barack Obama for president !

Obama-Biden are the wiser and stronger team to solve the crucial challenges we have in this nation and abroad !

I have always been an Independent. I have voted base on the character of the candidate as well as their position on the issues. That being said, McCain's past has proven how issues can get muddled during a campaign. Our country needs direction and guidance, not mud slinging ways of the past. I will not vote or support a person, male or female, that has betrayed their wedding vows If God and family is not first, how can you lead our nation?. He cheated on his first wife (who was actually married when he met her). Think about the Clinton years and you can see why I'm not supporting his candidacy.
