McCain's aides say they will peg Obama as 'risky' and 'dangerous.'.

(CNN) — John McCain’s aides say they are certainly happy to turn the corner away from the bailout package — but insist the campaign’s stepped-up focus on Barack Obama’s character does not mean the Republican presidential nominee is going to stop talking about the economy.

Instead, they will try to reframe the economic issue as part of their overall theme against Obama: You don’t really know this guy — and you can’t trust this guy. The words in their new ad say it all: “risky… dangerous.”

Watch: Obama, McCain advisers discuss why their candidate is best for the economy

As Obama and running mate Joe Biden take a break from the trail Monday, McCain and VP nominee Sarah Palin are each pursuing a different part of that strategy.

In New Mexico this afternoon, aides say McCain is expected to revive his attacks on Obama — a top recipient of campaign cash from from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — for taking money from the failed mortgage giants, and for not coming up with solutions early in the crisis. The Arizona senator will once again talk about his own call two years ago for reform of Fannie and Freddie.

Last month, the McCain camp released ads highlighting Obama’s ties to former Fannie and Freddie officials — but that line of attack had not been prominent since a New York Times investigation alleged that campaign manager Rick Davis may have benefited financially from his firm’s links to the lenders until their collapse last month.

McCain advisors are wagering that the attack is worth the risk. One aide says that “with economic news at the top of voters’ minds, it makes sense for the top of the ticket to talk about Obama’s failures and lack of credibility on the economy.”

Meanwhile, Palin — who hit Obama this weekend over his associations with controversial Chicago figures — will continue a more personal line of attack, focusing on his relationship with Weather Underground founder William Ayers.

The two lines of attack are two sides of the same approach, says another advisor, questioning obama’s truthfulness and whether voters can really trust him.

But two McCain aides say Palin’s comments questioning why Rev. Jeremiah Wright wasn’t more of a campaign trail issue, was not planned as a signal that they are going to start adding Wright to the mix. The Alaska governor, they say, was just relating her personal opinion, not the strategy of the campaign,

Asked whether Palin’s remark wasn’t a green light to outside groups that Wright is fair game, the aide responded “we’re not that good to strategize like that,” adding that Palin was talking as a woman whose daughters pregnancy was fair game, who doesn’t understand why the comments of Obama’s pastor aren’t.

One More time mr. McCAin
What are you going to to?
What is your plan?
What is your vision for this country?
Tell us…stop the attacks and give us facts….the negative campaign is not working…we as citizens are tired of the negative…we get enough of that looking at the ecomony…
the country may not yet be in a financial depression but we are in a depression of hope, and your negative campaign is not helping that…
I hope and pray that McCain/Palin get the butt kicking of a lifetime on 11/4 and maybe that will show that negative does not work.

Chuck   October 6th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

The only danger to America right now is the Republican party and their lack of leadership and inability to choose a VP nomination that has been more polarizing than any in recent history.

What do I see in Obama:

He is a man of integrity, decent, intelligent, good principles, good values and morale…He might not have the experience but he has good traits and I believe he would do well for us: 2008/2012

Past is the past. We need to think about the future and what is ahead of us….

redhead from Toronto   October 6th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

So John, you are still going to talk about the Economy while you are trashing Sen. Obama? Well, try talking about the last 8 years, I don't think you have much of a track record to go on, do you? Please tell that sidekick of yours it's not Christian to tell lies but I guess you don't care how you get to the White House as long as you do. Good luck with that, you don't stand a chance . The American people have had about all they can take with Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and YOU..

I am so tired of the character propaganda from the McCain campaign. Fears & smears seem to be all they know…sad.

Many Americans are hurting in these economic times with our 401K's, stocks, home values, food prices, healthcare, etc. Obama & Biden are the ones offering real solutions to these issues.

Wow, this election has turned into a dung-slinging fest. I think when Obama wins this election (there's no doubt in my mind that he will win) McCain and Palin will look back and be disgusted with themselves.

Excuse me there Palin, were you and her husband part of a group that wanted to separate Alaska from the U.S., Geeeee if thats not loving your country I'll truly like to know what you call it. Mcsame can you say KEATING 5, you thief, let the american people know how many millions of dollars you and your friends stole from people, leaving thousands of people homeless and stealing all their savings. Palin lets talk about (TROOPER-GATE), you lier.

Susan from Scotts Valley, CA   October 6th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

The risky and dangerous ones are McCain and Palin. McCain does not have the temperament and judgment for the job and Palin doesn't have the knowledge or experience on national and international issues.

It ain't gonna work this time folks!

Tina   October 6th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

Palin has a checkered past. The witch craft pastor from KENYA laying hands on her. The other pastor saying horrible things about JEWS. her husband and probably her members of Alaska's independent party. The tropper gate. it goes on and on. People wake up.

Shay   October 6th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

Let's see. Did we cross that road before. Oh Yeah in the primaries

And it did not work.

On second thought

America may have not like the

The TONE of Rev. Wright soundbites because it made everyone feel hate just by the tone.

but it might have took that type of tone to wake up America and beware of what is going on in America.

Did the chickens come home to roost?

Yep, sure did.

Now the stock is tumbling again America

Let's get with the issues at hand and not old news

Have you looked at your retirement accounts lately? Well, don't look now; you may not have one after today. Thank you McCain for working to deregulate the banking industry for the last 26 years.

If you don't like dirty politics then you better not vote for Obama. That's how he got elected. Check it out and you'll learn the truth. Also, Chicago had more murders last month than soldiers killed in Iraq last month. Hey guys, it's Obama's home town and he helped put the laws in place that made it what it is today.
Honestly, It's to bad they don't have a spot on the ballot that says "None of the above, try again" NO ONE running actually deserves our vote.

It's the economy stupid! McCain can't separate his role in the Keating 5 from today's mess…will Sarah get parole from Alaska so she can still be McCain's Pitbull with lipstick?

Anne   October 6th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

It looks as if Ohio, Florida, Virginia and possible Missouri will be deciding the election. It will be interesting to see if the people suffering in those states stick with what got them there or will they step in a new direction.

The economic crisis can't be ignore Sen. McCain. You can't stop people from worrying about how little they have left to pay bills. You can't stop people from stressing out about if they can send their children to college. You can't stop people from noticing that they can't go a doctor if they get sick.

You can't stop us from seeing through your stunts and distractions anymore.

You CAN stop yourself from becoming the very thing you used to fight against back in 2000. But I doubt that you will…you greed is too hard to counter anymore.

Meanwhile, for all the idiotic Republican BS about not using diplomacy and we dont get it….the Saudi's are holding talks with the Taliban…..wait what? need that repeated?? the Saudi's…..Talking with the Taliban….hmmm. Honestly, can this get any more dangerous, so what now? after all that talk about victory which in its own shows how little we still dont understand about a war like these, here they are chit chatting with the people responsible for 9/11 and so on or atleast we are told..not to mention how little trust we should have for the Saudis as it is after all we did to liberate these countries in the past what return have we gotten? anyone see what that place looks like?? its a freaking palace in its own. Wake up people this is getting ridiculous, they are building disney land in the mid East while we go down the drain, i love it, can it get anymore messed up than this? when will we ever face the music? as far as im concerned if they dont hand over Bin Laden then why are we even bothering, doesnt this….legitimize them as the Republicans like to say….encourage them….hmm…seems to me they are using democratic ideas now that theres have failed, and i love to see McCain acting like they knew all along. Sickens me that Dems were right…keeping in mind both parties are always corrupt, the lesser of two evils seems the only path, but the fact is the Dems i feel would atleast have had us on our feet still, not drive us off a cliff with first grade ideology.

Risky? RISky? RISKY?????   October 6th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

Barack Obama and Joe Biden are CLEARLY the only safe choice this November.

McCain has flip-flopped on running a 'clean' campaign, just for starters, and McPalin is clearly clearly in over her snarky little head.

Rob   October 6th, 2008 12:21 pm ET

Well DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course he's dangerous. Anyone with at least a quarter of a brain can see that.

Unfortunately that brain requirement disqualifies the Obama supporters. Whether they were born that way, too much koolaid, or Oprah brainwashing, they can't see the forest from the trees. They can't/don't see the truth. They wouldn't know the truth if it was a board falling off a Rezscko slum, or a brick flying from one of Ayers bombings, or a cd from one of Wright's hate sermons. No, Obama supporters just go to show that intelligence, reason, common sense, and the truth do not matter in elections (according to them apparently)

Terry   October 6th, 2008 12:21 pm ET

Do McCaina nd Palin have any clue as to what is important to us any more in this election?

I've already talked with three people I was trying to swing to Obama, and guess what, they are on board – they are totally disgusted with McCain and his poor judgment in picking Palin and the way their campaign is going.

What I find risky and dangerous is the fact the the McCain campaign continue to ignore the ECONOMY and are attacking Obama on lies and inuendos.

The Dow is down almost 500 points, down under 10,000 and McCain is not even touching this! How can McCain and Palin even think they are qualified to run this country when they are playing ROVE politics instead of addressing the real issues for the American People?

They are pathetic!!!

American Voter   October 6th, 2008 12:20 pm ET

CNN, I would like you to investigate a program that I saw on Fxo News last night on Obama. It was called "FRIENDS OF OBAMA – HISTORY ON RADICALISM". I would like CBN and the mainstream media to investigate and find out the truth about Obama. I think the media owes it to the voters to give us the truth about the candidates. The same way you can dig up things on Palin, its about time that we hear about Obama. I would like to know of his years at Columbia and Harvard universities and what did he actually do there. I would like to read about his THESIS which apparently have not been released to the media. Also his contact with some radical people including Palestinians. I challenge CNN to get this information for the american voters before we make our decision on November 4.

Ignorance from those who will play it as he's attacking a white woman ( racist / sexist pigs).

This is ridiculous. What is the difference between McCain and Obama? The are the same just different sides of the coin. They proved this last week when they both voted in favor of this bailout (rescue plan) package last Wednesday when the majority of people including many economists were not in favor of this bill especially with all this pork ($150 Billion worth).

If you want real change Vote for a Third Party candidate.

I'm voting Bob Barr, you vote for whom you think is the right choice.

KEATINGECONOMICS.COM   October 6th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

How is John McCain's relationship with Charles Keating related to today's economic crisis?

When the savings and loan industry collapsed, Keating's failed company put taxpayers on the hook for $3.4 billion and more than 20,000 Americans lost their savings. John McCain was reprimanded by the bipartisan Senate Ethics Committee, but the ultimate cost of the crisis to American taxpayers reached more than $120 billion.

The Keating scandal is eerily similar to today's credit crisis, where a lack of regulation and cozy relationships between the financial industry and Congress has allowed banks to make risky loans and profit by bending the rules. And in both cases, John McCain's judgment and values have placed him on the wrong side of history.

Cal   October 6th, 2008 12:19 pm ET

The Republican ticket has no answers about any substantive issues, so they are just mud-slinging to distract the American public about issues that matter.

When it comes down to it, Barack Obama has never been formally investigated regarding any of these alleged "scandals;" which are really just being manufactured by the Republican smear machine. McCain, on the other hand, has faced investigation and admitted to impropriety in the Keating Five affair. Sarah Palin is currently being investigated in regards to abuse of power in Alaska.

When people say that they don't "know anything about Obama," what do they really mean? The man has written two books about his relatively short life. One outlines his life history from childhood through Harvard Law. The other one outlines the framework of his policy positions regarding all major issues since he entered public life. Maybe those who claim to not know anything about Obama ought to try reading a book, in stead of trying to ban books like Palin did in Alaska.

NoMccain   October 6th, 2008 12:18 pm ET

This sort of baby slapping avoids the real issues at stake. Mccain pulled Obama into this, just like he politicized the economic crisis… is Mccain’s campaign still officially in “suspension?” There is no doubt that Mccain is openly embracing the Muslim charges against Obama, which cannot be perceived as anything other than prejudicial racism. SO WHAT!? Isn’t this a free country or not? Why is it such a big deal even if he is Muslim? Mccain and Palin are trying to paint him as a terrorist, just because they are convinced that he is Muslim. These idiots are quick to connect him to his former Christian pastor Jeremiah Wright, and then simultanteously slide over to charge him with the fallacious accusation of being Muslim. This is a serious disjunction in the thought patterns of many racist Americans. It’s unbelievable.
Anyways… Obama’s professionalism transcends any politician this year… it’s clear, because he ended up on top of a two year long presidential race. He will NOT be brought down to Mccain/Palin’s level. They will not win because of their inability to connect with the real DIVERSE American population that many Americans pick up arms and fight for.

Their signs say Country First……and they leave Michigan….what does that say to Joe Six Pack and Hockey Moms in that state…..if you can't do anything for us……we're gone!

TO: CNN. You continue to post blogs containing the lowest of the low attacks on Governor Palin, calling her a witch and names that are not permitted in what is left of polite society. And worst of all — downing a past religion and criticizing it's pastors, and its members and their practices. Also those that contain every slanderous name one can think of against John McCain. Yet, when one attempts to critique Obama's past affiliations — his blog is never posted. Why?

to the palin/mccain campaign and their supporters, no matter what you say about sen. obama (which have already been debunked so many times in the past), it will not change the majority of americans' belief that what we are going through right now was caused by mccain's reckless and irresponsible support throughout the years of deregulations to benefit his friends and allies, charles keating, et al.

i will still make sure that obama gets into the white house to clean up this mess, with my support. palin can then go back to alaska and face the wrath of the good people of that state and answer for her abuse of power.

senators obama and biden will win this election via landslide.

Florida for Obama   October 6th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

If people don't know enough about Barach Hussein Obama, it is because, like many of my "college" students, they refuse to research and read for themselves. If a man runs for President twice and loses, what makes him worthy of being President now? McCain has tried for the office on a couple of occasions. He lost to G.W. Bush; that, in and of itself is telling. With the current conditions on Wall Street after the bailout, there is no room for name calling. That's what one does in elementary school before he/she knows better. When one becomes an adult, it would seem necessary to employ adult tactics when resolving disagreements. I couldn't care less about Rev. Wright, Ayers, or Michelle Obama. I care about the future of this country, and if McCain/Palin cannot find anything better to do with their time than to hurl insults at their opponent, both have proven to me that they are truly incompetent and unworthy of my vote. Maybe McCain can try again in 2012, if he's still around.

Proud to be American   October 6th, 2008 12:16 pm ET

the markets around the world are falling like tumbling every day, mccain is cancelling his campaign to look like he cares and failing utterly, Palin sounds like a hastily prepared political See 'n Say, and the GOP are tauting deregulation in an era where the Iraq war is costing as much every week as CEOs are earing on bonus checks.

Who, exactly, is the risky choice again?

The Dow just dropped below 10,000.

Investigate if John McCain was invested in Silver Bank of Arizona and got his money out before it failed in August '8. If so it was totally unethical of Sen. John McCain to do so knowing investors would lose their money and he said nothing. McCains son was CEO of Silver Bank and quit 2 months before it crashed, did he leave with a parachute package and John McCain was in Arizona every weekend during this time. Investigate Please.

Shelley florida   October 6th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

In response to gone, I think that when all is said and done is that people are going to realize that it is very hard to believe anything that McCain/Plain have to say. Voters are going to remember the distortions and the lies that have become an everyday feature of their campaign. In the end people are going to think if McCain has problems with the truth now, how is he any different from George Bush and why would we think that anything would be different once he became president.

Wolf hunter   October 6th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

I am very disappointed with the Republican party and with John McCain. At first, I had no idea who Sarah Palin was. Now I am just ticked. I can't even imagine her as a CEO of a large business let alone be the vice-president of the country with largest economy of the world. She is a good attack dog, I'll give her that. That's about it though.

That's all the "judgment" you need to know. McCain is not qualified to lead this nation out of the economic disaster under way. So what do McCain/Palin point out? Rev. Wright? Bill Ayers? It's all about the past.
So if they want to talk about the past, let McCain explain all the deregulation he OK'd and then talk about his "palling around" with Charles Keating.

Barbara Campbell   October 6th, 2008 12:15 pm ET

Today's news exemplifies the reason why neocons are going down the tubes. As the economy crashes under Republican deregulation, the media parrot Palin's garbage attacks against Obama. Palin has replaced Ann Coulter as the Queen of Mean, cheered on by the neocons who love to hate.

A change in tide for conservatives would require that they start thinking for themselves, instead of regurgitating the divisive talking points of the day.

Tony   October 6th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

Palin is completely braindead. Totally incoherent, understands nothing, is completely programmed by the McCain campaign to STICK TO THE SCRIPT, and so on, and so on…..

McCain insulted the intelligence of every American when he chose Palin for the simple reason that he thought he could cajole the vast majority of women in America, especially white women, to flock to him with this lame, pathetic choice.

Palin insulted every American in the VP debate when she looked into the camera and said that she would not answer the questiosn she was aksed, but would talk about what she wanted to talk about….period!

The DOW JONES is down 400+ points again today, so if you value your job, pension,401(k), retirement accounts and your FAMILY, Children and their futures, say NO to McCain / Palin in November.

I'm out of a job and hurting financially. Stop the smearing and tell me what you are going to do to fix the economy. Winking and avoiding questions doesn't do me any good. I had such high hopes when you got on the ticket. Now I have to vote Democratic for the first time in my life. Thanks but no thanks, Sarah.

Susan   October 6th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

What's risky and dangerous is for McCain to choose Palin as his running mate and putting her a heartbeat away from the Presidency. This "woman" can't string two sentences together without being told what to say and goes off into la-la land on a different subject every time she can't answer a question.

Kristyn   October 6th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

This is truly a sad time in American politics. I use to like McCain, but not any more. With everything going on in our country right now….is this all they have to talk about. Why can't McCain tell us why we should vote for him, instead of telling us that Obama is risky. John McCain has really disappointed me and Sarah should be ashamed of herself. The rest of the world is watching us too….is this what we want to show them? How sad.

Dan   October 6th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

She should answer for her very un-Christian behavior.
In "my world" this makes Palin the "dangerous" candidate.

James   October 6th, 2008 12:14 pm ET

Perpetually fretting Democrats will not want to accept it. The campaigns themselves can’t afford to believe it. Many journalists know it but can’t say it. And there will certainly be some twists and turns along the way. But take it to a well capitalized bank: Bill Ayers isn’t going to save John McCain neither Rev. Wright wii. The race is over.

John McCain’s candidacy is as much a casualty of Wall Street as Lehman or Merrill. Like those once vibrant institutions, McCain’s collapse was stunning and quick. One minute you are a well-respected brand. The next you are yelling at the messengers of your demise as all around you the numbers start blinking red and stop adding up.

The campaigning that I see as an independent is getting so irritating. It appears that one particular party is becoming a whinner and nitpicker on anything and everything that does not suit them. Also, that they will stop at nothing to get what they want. This is scarey and getting played out. It does nothing for me to believe if you can try and be deceitful, mean, cuthroat, embellishing, and whinning, and non-sportsmanlike that you can be good for our country.
There are issues here in this country right?

Jeff Brown   October 6th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

This is coming from the people who brought you one of the dirtiest presidential campaigns in history! McCain's decision to wallow in the mud and sling it at Obama is pathetic. Only the John Q. Adams campaign was more disgusting. Mrs. Andrew Jackson was accused of adultery and bigamy and the people were repulsed by it. Jackson went on to win, just like Obama will win BIG in November!

Alison B   October 6th, 2008 12:13 pm ET

The irony is when things are not going your way lets get nasty. People don't care about this stuff we already know about all of this already. Why can't they stay on topic or do they truly have absolutely nothing of significance to discuss with the American people. Come on now we don't want to hear about Rev Wright, we don't want to hear about Rezno, we don't want to hear of anything the Republics feels they want people to know. We want to know what is the Republicans will do that will be different from George Bush, we want to know why is it we should be voting for them cause as it stands they have shown absolutely no reason for anyone to be interested in their cause as it stands for NOTHING.

With that being said we will stick to the person who has been telling us what their plans are, what they will do for us and that is Barack Obama.

If the MSM had done their jobs last year and not made Obama out to be "god-like", then they would have taken the time to do a proper vetting of the man.

After 1. ACORN
2. Rezko
3. Ayers
4. Rev. Wright
5. Father Flagger
After these were looked into Hillary would have been the nominee. But because the DNC wanted Hillary out of the way they elevated Obama so much so that the sexism and reverse racism came rushing out.

If you are white and you question Obama in any way you are deemed racist. Bill Clinton of all people was called racist because he said this whole thing was a fairy tale. How "fairy tale" turns into racism I'll never know.

Obama is a calm LEADER. McCain likes to tilt at windmills and thinks he's riding to the rescue.

McCain's time was in 2000. He lost because his character was smeared. He promised he would never do that. He is a liar – he traded in his honor for power. Shame on him. He is not worthy to lead me.

I can't even begin to express my total lack of respect for a fellow Navy man. McCain is a disgrace, and he continues to dishonor himself further by tring to paint a Presidential candidate as unpatriotic. He and his lapdog (Palin) need to disappear, before they eternally seal their own fates of never holding any political office ever again.

Susan   October 6th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

The economy is a mess, our reputation is in shreds–all because of Bush's policies, which McCain has supported 95 percent of the time.

If you buy into McCain/Palin's obvious smear tactics, then I hear they have a bride to nowhere you might be interested in purchasing in Alaska. Their campaign has no substance other than failed policies.

These people have no shame and are desperate.

Grace Needed   October 6th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

What could be more 'risky, dangerous' than what Senator McCain has already done? He called for deregulation of the financial markets for decades and then was surprised by their greed and corruption. He selected a Vice President without proper vetting who has little knowledge of national affairs outside Alaska, let alone international. Heck, the Gov. hasn't even been a student of world affairs and doesn't intend to be, nor does she have any interest. How risky and dangerous is that to have someone who has no depth and breadth of knowledge in a position to become President when the Presidential candidate is 72 with melonoma with father and grandfather dying before they were 75? The Republican Party is risky and dangerous putting up these unstable and erratic candidates for high office. As my Dad used to say, "We may have been born yesterday, but we spent the rest of the day looking around". We've more sense than you give us credit for. Don't prove me wrong Americans! This US versus THEM mentality that has gridlocked Washington will just continue with this ticket and others like them – who dismiss the whole East Coast as elitists and liberal. ENOUGH is enough, we are NOT going back. We are moving forward with or without you!

It doesn't matter what you try to tell the American people, we are not falling for it. When is the McCain campaign going to get this in their thick heads? The more you lash out at Obama and not talk about what we want to hear, the economy and how you can fix it, the more the polls are going in his favor. How stupid of this campaign to think for one minute that the people are falling for all this b.s. Whoever is without sin, let him throw the first stone. Apparently, the McCain campaign thinks they are without sin. Well, the last laugh will be on you come November 4th. And the polls will continue to be in Obama's favor up until the BIG day when he will win by a landslide. All of your tactics and schemes are backfiring on you. And make sure you give Slurpin-Syrupy Sarah Palin a BIG thanks for it. Thanks CNN for devoting all of your coverage to McPalin's anti-Obama BS. Maybe the first time Sarah Failin called Obama a terrorist it was news, but why is it news the 8th, 9th, and 10th times?

If it wasnt' bad enough that FoxNews is pulling out all the stops to get McPalin elected, now CNN takes the same route.

Tom Swift, Shopton USA   October 6th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

On a day when the Dow is once again 400+ points down – below 10,000 for the 1st time in years – I would think that the Co-Mavericks would be paying more attention to the economy rather than the same old tired attack Obama strategy.

Why isn't the head Maverick suspending the campaign and parachuting into Washington?

Kick the B   October 6th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

Let me fix this for you with the truth about why John McCain will not win the Presidency:

When all is said and done, McCain is going down in November because of two issues that won’t go away:

1. Economy and deregulation
2. Sarah Palin

There’s not much else voters REALLY want to know about McCain – but these two will stick!

Good Luck and Go Obama

H   October 6th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

McCain and Palin protest too much.

Maybe (in addition to his own recklessness) it is because McCain's connections to extremist right-wing organizations are coming up for discussion again.

And, another huge stock market drop today.

Grasping for straws McCain, grasping for straws.

Republicans Hate America   October 6th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

and this has what to do with the failing economy that McCain helped create?

Dee   October 6th, 2008 12:10 pm ET

How utterly slimy!! They cant rely on their record or their stands on issues so they attack Obama's character & patriotism…that speaks volumes about their readiness to lead the nation out of the mess its in. The voters wont be fooled, unlike what they think, the voters are intellegent!!

Lynn: 60 yr old white Obama supporter   October 6th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

So easy to sling mud when you are unprepared to substaniate them!!

Why does CNN keep repeating comments they have "fact checked" as FALSE?? What kind of a news organization does that.

Palin's outrageous remarks should not be publicized unless she is willing to sit down and bach them up with an objective journalist. Until she does that, her remarks should be ignored.

kathy   October 6th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

Unqualified and outrageous should be used as adjectives to describe McCain and Palin. She is only reciting what has been written for her. She has no substance and needs to be ignored. McCain should know that he is far from perfect and he'd better be careful w/his attacks. He's got plenty of skeletons in his closet. Palin needs to think about her own pastoral ties and troopergate, etc. We want the issues dealt with and for them to quit focusing on the past. They have no strategy to win in november so they resort to low blows and lies…the american people deserve better than what the republican party is offering up now…it's all BS and we're fed up with it~

jason, tx   October 6th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

This is hilarious. Palin is the risky one. People who vote for the Republican ticket are just plain idiotic.

Gone   October 6th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

Gone,

Give it a break. The Americans that have an IQ above 70 are looking into the devestating economy and two horrible wars that the Republicans put us in.

There is no way Americans are going to let the Rove style politics of fear mongoring and smear attacks distract us from major issues.

McCain is failing, and if his presidency was run anything like his campaign than this country is done for. Palin is just plain Failing. She may attract the 5-10% folksy people of this country, but the other 95-100% see right through her.

'Gone' should realize that McCain and Palin should not be throwing stones. Let us not forget Palin's own extremist pastor, nor McCain's involvement in the Keating scandal. The McCain campaign in merely lashing out in a last-ditch attempt to fool the American people into voting for them.

Susie oklahoma   October 6th, 2008 12:09 pm ET

I'd think McCain/Palin would get the hint that America doesn't want any more of these nasty worthless attacks. Obama needs to hit him back quickly and affectively to show McCain isn't no angel!

Obama/Biden '08

Walter, FL   October 6th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

The Democrats and Obama just got provided the greatest news headline possible:
"the stock market falls below 10.000 points in years, and McCain wants to turn the page". John McCain obviously believes a 700 billion dollar fix is all that needs to be done here. Just throw in the money and that's it. No more work to be done here.
Oh boy, we're so screwed if the Republicans come in again. There will be no work on fixing the economy whatsoever right? I start to believe the Republicans genuinely do not understand economy.

What the #$%?   October 6th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

Boooo Booooo! WHAT ABOUT THE ISSUES? WHAT ABOUT THE ISSUES? WHAT ABOUT THE ISSUES? Our ECONomy is in the trash and this is all you can pull out? 29…..28…….27…….26………..25 days and counting. GW…do you need help packing?

carlo   October 6th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

Haven't we been here already? Palin is the LAST person who needs to bring up wacky pastors, with her witch-hunting prayer warrior and her American-hating, secessionist husband.

McCain-Keating 5, nothing more to say.

Landslide Obama/Biden 08/12.

Shirley   October 6th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

If the Republicans would not playing like little children and act grown up then this will be a good campaign.

Now lets see and talk dirty.

1) Sarah Palin has no room to talk about nobody because she is running away from a jail probe – Trooper Gate.
2) John Mccain is no maverick and if Sarah Palin had any sense she would not let the Republican make her out of a witch.
3) John Mccain is a pathetic old man that can't run for office unless he tear someone down.
4) People if this is the type of race you want then believe in McCain but what if the table is turned on him with Palin and the witch doctor and all of his dirty tactics in the past.
5) I want vote for a negative campaign because they have noting positive to offer.

Get a life McCain/Palin.

Jordan - San Marcos TX   October 6th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

Nothing is more risky and dangerous to your campaign than slinging this dung when the American people need answers about what you plan to do to solve this country's problems.

That is why Obama will win.

Lee from FL   October 6th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

Bankrupt of ideas, the Repubs use another discordant singer to render the same old tune. Keep going Sarah, the Democrats need you too baecause you are our court jester! Like a blown up baloon, when the air is let out you will spin wildly until you fizzle out.

Spencer from VA   October 6th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

OBAMA/BIDEN 08

Adam, Los Angeles   October 6th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

I think we've seen this tactic before: When nothing else works, start slinging mud. It's a sign that campaign is in real trouble and, quite frankly, really pathetic.

Jeanine G   October 6th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

8 years of a Republican in the WH, a president McCain has sided with 90% of the time has left us in financial ruin, a 2 fronted war, hated by the world, and sinking faster. So is it any wonder McCain has decided to turn up the fear factor on his dirty & dishonorable campaign?

No. For the last 2 elections, fear and hatred worked for the GOP…it is the only weapon they reach for in their depleted aresenal because they have NO ANSWERS, and are terrified of the ISSUES.

We're not going to be fooled again.

Early Voted for Obama. Today is the last day of voter registration in OHIO folks…..GET OUT THE VOTE

Robert   October 6th, 2008 12:07 pm ET

McCain – GOP racial fear mongering at its finest. McCain has sunken so low this campaign.

John McCain, I want my contribution back! I am disgusted that money I gave you is helping to dishonestly slime another senator. You should be ashamed. I am beginning to call friends and family to let them know how gross you have become, and they'll know I mean it because I used to argue for your candidacy.

MCCAIN – PALIN- BUSH ALL SEAPARATED AT BIRTH!

AMERICA IS NOT DRINKING THE KOOL-AID ANYMORE!

Sarah Bell   October 6th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

How is John McCain's relationship with Charles Keating related to today's economic crisis???

Michael   October 6th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

When all is lost, we tear others down to gain attention. disgusting, pitiful, really pitiful. McCain and Palin are disgrace to Christian values! If this is true Christianity they claim to represent in the name of 'Christian conservatism', then Christianity has failed once again. Lies, more lies, and more lies in the name of God. McCain and would have won this election if only their actions reflected those Christian virtues they claim to represent. As a Christian, I am disgusted and it is an insult for either Palin or McCain to appeal to Chrisitan conservatives. These are worse than heathens! Palin lies! McCain you have sold out big time!

Sara's lie about Ayers is no match for Sara Palin's pastor's sermon about Alaska being a refuge in the last days, Her husband wanting to suceed from America and witch hunting. This woman is far more scarier than Ayers. And besides, when I go to fill my
gas tank up at $4.00 a gallon, Ayers is not standing at the pump,
but the Republican ghost is. They are the one's we should fear.
Palin is anti-woman, bans books, no foreign policy credentials, and
a threat to our national security. Sara "Harry Potter" Palin is what can REALLY hurt Americans and for this we should be fearful. Palin should
be sued for slander. She is the one who is risky, for we know nothing
about her.

MCCAIN'S PLAN HAS BLWON UP IN HIS FACE, SO FOR THE NEXT FOUR WEEKS HE AND PALIN WILL DO NOTHING BUT LIE, ATTACK AND ACCUSE BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOTHING ELSE.

It is the Republican's policies of the last 8 years that has been risky. John McCain is more of the same.

Run, run, hide, hide, distract here… Look Haley's Comet over there….

McCain and Palin are running from the American Public and they both are a farce.

Do you really want the disoriented McCain as President? Years in a POW camp is bound to leave a few screws loose. Remember the movie Manchurian Candidate. Has he published any medical or psychological records?

Know-nothing Palin isn't much better. Her last interview was a joke! Her debate was just a litany of memorized talking points that she regurgitated even if they didn’t answer the question.

America wake up.

It s time for real change. Change that will bring prosperity and peace to our nation. We need the Democrats in the White House. As a nation, we are sick and tired of the GOP 's failed policies that benefit just a few and forget about most of us.

The GOP will say anything, they now they have lost the respect of millions who are now facing foreclosure, who are worried about medical bills, college tuition, retirement, and who simply can no longer trust a party that simply benefits the wealthy.

Our economy, our safety and prosperity depend on people who truly care about all people.

Yes we will!

All of this stuff is old news. Thanks to the Clintons, people heard about this months and months ago. People have made up their minds, whether they're comfortable or not with Barack Obama. The majority of the people see this kind of junk for what it is. It's all a fog screen. Where are the issues? Where is the substance? Why don't they want you focusing on what truly matters?

John McCain chose a "COUNTRY FIRST" motto, and then
selects a totally unqualified woman to be possible president of the
country. This woman is a threat to our national security. How is SHE going to protect us? The foreign enemy will know that we are a weak target if Sara Palin is ever allowed to command. John McCain may even be captured AGAIN while he is asleep in the White House. His "judgement" after all allowed him to crash five planes and get captured. We Had better think twice before helping unqualified Sara Palin the republican party fool this country again. WE THE PEOPLE are the country.
