From

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (CNN) - This does not strike me as much of a town hall. It's more like last week's debate, only the backdrop is voters. Brokaw just seems to have to officially given up on enforcing the rules...

Watch: McCain, Obama outline priorities

No Hillary = No Obama   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Pissing contest – what do you expect. Now if Hillary were debating we would have humor, smiles, emoting – instead we have Mr. Professor and Top Gun.

regina p   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Agreed!!

Tom B has, IMO, greatly distracted from what we all tuned into hear...what the candidates think....not that they can answer the questions within 2 minutes.

Dr. Roy   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

I tend to agree – some of the answers are the same as before. I can see the connection McCain is making with the audience. Looks like Obama is stuck on the Russia question.

Bianca   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

As he should because they need to explain to us how they are going to get us out of this mess! how are they going to do it in 60 seconds?

Steve in MN   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

In 2012, I'm in favor of adding a buzzer that will sound at the 2 minute mark. If it sounds while you're talking, finish your sentence, then shut up.

Make it happen!

Me   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

I want to hear from Obama also... McCain puts me asleep!!!!!!

alexa   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

they can't fully debate in a townhall meeting. Maybe they'll be given more time now.

John   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

McCain looks really bad. He should stay a senator. Barack is the only man on the stage that looks, talks, and acts presidential. McCain is all foreign policy but it takes more than foreign policy to be president. Obama looks really strong in all areas and even McCain just agree with Obama ideas in Afghanistan. WOW!!!

Betty   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

I agree... I'd like to see a format where they have to answer yes or no or at least something a bit more controlled.

The Lady   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

This is not a town hall meeting but a town hall DEBATE!!!!

rainsdance   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Agreed. I'm not hearing anything new except more mud slinging.

Greggamma   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Gwen was a moderator; Mr. Brokaw in not allowing the town hall to take care of the business of the town.

martie   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

yeah, what happened to the "voter's questions" he only asked two from the internet....whats going on here...we need more time!

Jen   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

I dont' know... McCain can't stop walking in the background. It's really annoying. I just keep screaming at my TV... "Grandpa, sit down!! I'll get it, you just relax"

Obama is doing really good about jumping in though...

ines   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

I'm hearing a lot of stump speech material from McCain. He is looking so very weak.

Robert   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Particularly McCain. He keeps repeating not just lines, but whole paragraphs of his previous debate replies.

Sara   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

If Obama would have agreed to what McCain was suggesting, they would be having townhall meetings around the country, but Obama refused. In the end it does not matter as most of America is blinded by Obama's charm.

California Gold   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

You are right Candy and it is precisely why McCain is dropping like a rock in the polls. Same garbage, different hear.

McCain, I'll say it one more time: I'm Not Your Friend.

Mary, Dublin, Ireland   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

I agree. This format does not work. Maybe a couple of months ago...

Smarter than the GOP   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

McCain seems to want to please Brokaw more than the voters

TJ in SC   October 7th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Why is Brokaw getting so upset? Let them do their thing!!!

BARACK the VOTE!!!

Tilden, NYC   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Brokaw let this devolve by trying to hijack the debate for himself in the first place.

Chan   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

You complained about him enforcing the rules in the beginning.

CNNFanatik   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Agreed, Brokaw lost his backbone.

lisette   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Let's not forget about

"that one"

JD in NC   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

True that.
