Sen. McCain is trailing in Minnesota despite the fact that the Republican convention was held in St. Paul.

(CNN) – With less than a month to go until Election Day, CNN’s latest Minnesota poll of polls shows a major advantage for Sen. Barack Obama.

Obama now leads Sen. John McCain by 14 percentage points – with support from 54 percent of likely voters in the state, compared to 40 percent for McCain. Six percent of likely Minnesota voters are unsure about their choice for president. In CNN’s previous Minnesota poll of polls, Obama was ahead of McCain by a single point – 47 percent to 46 percent.

“The meltdown on Wall Street has significantly strengthened Obama’s hand in Minnesota,” noted CNN Senior Political Researcher Alan Silverleib. “The crisis has reinforced the state’s traditional embrace of economic populism, which almost always benefits the Democrats. At the same time, any local bounce McCain might have received from holding his party’s convention in St. Paul has now worn off. It’s worth remembering that no Republican candidate has carried Minnesota since Richard Nixon in 1972; it’s tough to imagine any GOP candidate seriously contesting the state when he’s trailing nationally by five or six points.”

Tuesday’s CNN Minnesota poll of polls is made up of the following three surveys: Minnesota Public Radio/Humphrey Institute (October 3-5), Star Tribune (September 30-October 2) and CNN/Time/ORC (September 28-30).

The poll of polls does not have a sampling error.

Minnesota is the latest in a number of states that have seen growing advantages for Obama since the financial crisis began.

Why nothing on CNN about the "terrorist", "traitor calls at the Palin and McCain rallies? Why nothing on the Secret Service investigation of the Palin supporter who yelled "kill him" during one of Palin's rants about Obama?

Surely voters should know about what is happening in these rallies rather than constantly showing these speeches containing many comments you have fact checked as FALSE??

NO suprise. Minnesota voted in a has been professional wrestler as a Governor, and have an idiot comedian running for Senator, so why wouldn't they vote for a 3 1/2 year do nothing Obama.

If the MSM would only do their job, print all the crookedness of obama his poll numbers would drop. Do they know he is not even a natural born citizen. Do they know 1/3 of his donation money has come from overseas. McCain returned his, obama didn't, Do they know that obama's campaign is also accepting money over the limit from people like Good Will, Dooda Man, Loving You. Now anybody with sense knows that is laundering and he is accepting it. So WHY IN THE DEVIL ISN'T THE PRESS REPORTING ALL THIS STUFF.

Too bad that Texas is not near an ocean or great lake. Obama would be up fifteen points there as well.

I hope these polls do not encourage voters on either side from staying home on Election Night. This is the probably the most important presidential election in anyone's lifetime and nothing is a done deal yet.

I'll be looking to see where Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida fall on November 4. If Obama wins those states, the writing will be on the wall.

Country First?   October 7th, 2008 7:29 pm ET

John McCain chose a "COUNTRY FIRST" motto, and then
selects a totally unqualified woman to be possible president of the
country. This woman is a threat to our national security. How is SHE going to protect us? The foreign enemy will know that we are a weak target if Sara Palin is ever allowed to command. John McCain may even be captured AGAIN while he is asleep in the White House. His "judgement" after all allowed him to crash five planes and get captured. Americans Had better think twice before helping the republican party fool this country again. WE THE PEOPLE are the country

Only then will Sean , Karl Rove, Billy Krystal , and all of the other ( vast majority) of Fox News Network Republican surrogates realize just how "out of touch" they are with the American people. I've been trying to tell these fools that the more THEY talk negatively about Obama , the HIGHER his poll ratings go. At the rate FOX is going …… Obama will LANDSLIDE into victory. Who told Obama he knew anything about the economy anyway? What has he done in the past that proves he knows what he is talking about? The junior senator one time Obama is criticizing McCain for siding with Bush, then doing the exact thing with Bush, as we saw last week during the outrageous bailout. Talk about being a HYPO. As it happened in the past, Obama voted for the package without reading the details. I cannot vote for a person like him this election. Let us watch Obama prove himself the next 12 years. NOW is not the time.

Obama / Biden will win because they will be able to Unite the country.
Palin is a separatist and a divider, and not qualified to run a diverse
country. It was pretty clear in Palin's "he's not like us" propoganda,
that she has an un-American agenda, of which we should be wary .
Palin will sink John McCain's ship.

When all is said and done, Obama goes down in November because of two issues that won’t go away:

1. Jeremiah Wright
2. Michelle Obama

While speaking in tongues for nearly two years now — and since voters REALLY don’t know much about Obama –or what he REALLY stands for — these two issues will stick!

As a life-long registered Independent Voter McCain has lost me in the last 3 weeks especially as he trumped up his racist rhetoric. I wasn't expecting this out of McCain but I guess all those rumors from his Naval buddies are true, he despises anyone who is non-white.

I am deeply troubled what a McCain Administration would mean to our country. We cannot afford to lose another war in the name of racism. I thought we were beyond that, apparently not.

This Independent voter is heading Senator Obama's way with thousand others. We held a meeting over the weekend and the mood is the same, McCain is out of touch and has become the most dangerous person to America.

Kate   October 7th, 2008 7:19 pm ET

My, my, my…sounds like some McCain supporters have their panties in a wad given the trend in the polls. Obama is the man for President! And there is no question that Biden is much more prepared to be the VP that McCain's girl, Palin.

T Harris - Alpharetta   October 7th, 2008 7:17 pm ET

Voting for Obama and his incompitent tax raising plans will doom your families. Proud Americans whith family values and morals will vote for McCain as he is the only candidate who can turn this country around. All Obama will do is create more Government control. The Government is not going to control how and what I spend my hard earned money on. People need to work for a living and stop accepting Government handouts. Everyone who complains about job loss doesn't really want to work. I view these job/career sites daily and I can't tell you the amount of jobs available to people who want to work.

Watching all of the election coverage then doing research and fact finding this tells me one thing.Minnesota has done their homework and are making educated decisions. When you look for the real proof and substance Obama stands tall, and McCain falls incredibly short, and Palin, well there is not much you can say, as there is nothing but controversary and extremely overstated experience to go by.Not sure why anyone would want a winky wink VP with a disaterous record.

Another Republican mess, another Democrat has to clean it up. And yes Shawn, it will be Obama. After showing they couldn't manage a lemonade stand without supervision, the GOP should be limited to state-level politics so the rest of us don't have to deal with their outdated, greedy, failed policies.

Sarah Palin-Iran tie.
The founder of Alaska Independence Party Joe Vogler, the raging anti-American and Todd-Sarah's political godfather, said, "My government is my worst enemy. I'm going to fight them with any means at hand."

"Vogler's greatest moment of glory was to be his 1993 appearance before the United Nations to denounce United States "tyranny" before the entire world and to demand Alaska's freedom. The Alaska secessionist had persuaded the government of Iran to sponsor his anti-American harangue.

That's right … Iran. The Islamic dictatorship. The taker of American hostages. The rogue nation that McCain and Palin have excoriated Obama for suggesting we diplomatically engage. That Iran."
Palin's friend and AIP chairwoman Lynette Clark : "[Sarah] is Alaskan to the bone … she sounds just like Joe Vogler."

Even in rural areas of Arizona, I see more support for Obama than for McCain. The worst thing about McCain losing will be that he will return to Arizona. Maybe he and Cindy should move to Alaska to be with the Palin clan. Whaddya think "Joe Six-Pack"?

Wow. How sad and pathetic.

The Straight Talk express has become Hate Talk Express.
Didn't Gov Palin say something about "our opponent looks to the
past to find blame, but we look to the future to find solutions."

Yet most of what I read and see the last week from McCain/Palin is a desperate attempt to dredge up stuff FROM the past and offer smears and accusations? This is what you offer the american people in this
time of CRISIS.

The greatest financial disaster in my lifetime and McCain/Palin offer
us propaganda hate speeches. People are losing their homes,
their jobs, their lives and this is what you have to offer us?

This Independent is voting for Obama/Biden.
Only fools remain in a burning house.

We can do better. If McCain is getting angry and pulling out all the stops on Obama…what will he do when talks w/ foreign leaders don't go in his favor??? We can't fight everyone!!

I feel so sad for America, that this man is the best we could do., I don't doubt he will win, he lies, he distorts and he doesn't do anything to help Americans. Where was he while George Bush was destroying the country, he was a sitting Senator wasn't he. I guess he was to busy putting his own interests first, rather than looking out for the people who elected him. Obama is a fraud, I just don't know if this country can stand another president who doesn't have a clue what they are doing. I'll be voting third party, I don't want any party of this empty suit, that is representing the party I belonged to for 30 years.

The negative attacks, lies, distortions, hypocricy and double standards have come full circle. People have finally wisened up to the Republican smear machine and the Palin factor (who's very existence on the ticket is an insult to our intelligence - mere regurgitation of facts and generic cutesy responses with a smile and wink are not gonna cut it anymore).
The country has serious problems needing bold, imaginative and creative solutions. McCain with outdated, antiquated and rejected ideas of the past century is simply not going to cut it and Palin is out of her league. Its 2008 and the country needs a bold, new direction.

There is still plenty of work to be done and Obama needs to let America see the looney that MCbush has become. He dosen't need to get in the muck with McBush. he needs to let people see that he is a serious man about the issues that face us everyday and let McBush continue to talk about issues that don't put a penny in anyones's pocket. The earlier polls say that we're leaning toward McCain/Palin, but we Minnesotan knew better and we're overwhelming leaning toward Obama/Biden.

Kate Fergus   October 7th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

Minnesota is like so many states where people are realizing that McCain has caused his own demise. McCain himself said in 2000 that anyone who resorted to swiftboating wasn't fooling the people and did so because he/she had no vision or plans to help the country.

It won't stop in Minnesota. Obama has been about generating ideas, using thoughtfulness, intelligence, and calmness in the face of crisis, and remaining presidential rising above the fray. He will continue to gain ground.

McCain and Palin have no integrity and lack good character. In the face of an economic crisis which is the most serious the country has faced since the great depression, all McCain and Palin can offer are slurs and lies.

Obama/Biden '08

Nate- Minneapolis   October 7th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

There are several things that got McCain in trouble. He undermined his biggest strengths- Experience- he undermined that by selecting Palin for political reasons. Policy and details- Obama had the image of being short on details- so what did McCain do- he made the election about the candidates rather than the issues- he has yet to really define his plans. Thirdly, McCain was a "maverick," but the only thing he changed were his positions to align to the GOP base- ie. tax cuts for the wealthy, torture, and off shore drilling. Instead of creating a contrast with Bush's policies he adopted them. He adopted his reform and change platform only after it was successful for his opponent and to this day hasn't provided any details on what that means.

The final nail in the coffin is probably the most daming- McCain stated that the fundamentals of the economy were strong 3 days before the collapse of AIG, Lehman Brothers and Washington Mutual. How as a leader are you going to prevent and respond to crisis if you don't know how to recognize them. If you can't see the road ahead why would you be the one driving the car? We are in the middle of an economic crisis and yet John McCain failed to acknowledge the reality.

Polls don't mean much especially when they only reflect land lines.

The choices are simple: change or the same.

People get out and vote and if you really want a change for the better then Obama/Biden and other Democrats is the only vote you need to cast.

People do not be afraid and do not let McCain/? or Republicants fear you into voting against true change in Obama/Biden.

I Invented the McMuffin... and fire   October 7th, 2008 6:16 pm ET

John in Oregon   October 7th, 2008 6:15 pm ET

The polls will be double-digit across the country if Obama just lets McCain rant on tonight with his lies, exaggerations, personal attacks, etc., and then just calmly says "John, let's talk about the economy and how you and your Republican cronies got us in this mess." Or "John, I hope the surge does work in Iraq, but let's talk about how you and your Republican cronies got us into this misbegotten war in the first place–do you think America is safer now because of the war in Iraq?"

We may be looking at the end of capitalism as we have known it, and I hope that at the same time we're looking at the end of the Republican Party, at least as we have known it for the past three decades. That's what I think these polls are showing.

Time for the rest of the country   October 7th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

Time for the rest of the country to fall in line with Minnesota, Thanks for keeping the dream of a better America alive. More of the same is what my wallet CANNOT afford!

Dennis   October 7th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

Dear God, I hope this country is finally waking up. Four more years of republican rule just might be enough to kill this great nation . . .

NoTrustInPolitics   October 7th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

Well, I have a very low opinion on polls.

But there have been too many polls with this same positive trend to ignore. I was slightly pro-Obama untill the debates. McCain was attack, attack, attack, while Obama was giving actual solutions. Biden was actually answering the questions, while Palin was reading from a script. Obama is oficially better.

Oh, and I really have to say this about the VP debates: Palin had tha audacity to read all her answers from a script. She repeated herself about 50 billion times. She doesn't even have the dinity to use a blutooth earphone or somthing similar to get the answers to the questions; she just read the same thing, verbatum, every single time.

Christine El Paso   October 7th, 2008 6:11 pm ET

Wise White Guy   October 7th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

The guys saying that they won't believe it until November 4th are correct and thank you for your posts. It is a reminder to all of us that we cannot rely on someone else to get this job done and we cannot let up until it is over. Too many times the Republican smear and fear machine along with a healthy dose of underhanded voter fraud has resulted in a crook getting elected. If you want the change to happen you need to get off your keyboards and get out and volunteer especially as we get down to the wire. These boards are fine to vent but the real difference is made at the Obama campaign offices. Do not sit back and let this one slip away because i am not sure our country will survive another 4 years of these horrible policies that McCain will continue.
