From

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (CNN) - That's a very interesting answer from McCain on Pakistan.

The crux of it was that while Obama's policy may be right...it's foolish to announce it to the Pakistanis; You probably should do what Obama suggests, but you shouldn't talk about it.

FL Father   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

He has said this before, and it was a qualified answer – IF Pakistan cannot or WILL not act..... Nothing inconsistent with what we have done in past crises, and certainly no different than the posturing McCain has done on Iraq, Iran, Russia, etc.. Bill, you are killing me with your comments that Obama is not answering questions directly (he is), then you state that he is wrong for answering a question too directly. You and Johnny will have a good cry together after this one. Obama is far more crisp.

lisa in omaha   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

tell them what we are going to do!
just like with children, they need to know EXACTLY what the consequences are to their actions!!!

Duop Chak, Colorado Springs, Colorado   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

I think Sen. McCain has conflicted himself.

JT   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Does McCain really expect us to believe that a Pres. Obama would send out a news release if he were about to take military action anywhere?!? Please.

LT for Obama   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

I could see if Obama is talking tactical strategy, but politicians have talked about going after the enemy before.

McCain keeps telling us that he knows how to go after Bin Laden, THEN TELL US, tell someone because so far, if you know, then you are letting innocent people die for political reasons. That is NOT putting country first.

Lynne   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

I'm not sure how saying...if they are unable or unwilling, we will do it is announcing to Pakistan what his plan is? He answered the question...with specificity yet generality

Lisa   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

No more predictions from McCain, pleeeeeze remember the fundamentals of our economy

J.   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Afghanistan. Vietnam. These countries have been at war longer than the US has existed!!!!! Give the necessary support and get the heck out. Or at least make Sarah the next door neighbor ;) .

Rep For Obama   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

McCain want to take credit where he doesn't deserve it. Why say that he is right and in the same mouth say that he is wrong.

Obama's Pitbull   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Gosh McSchneider give it up!!!!!!! McCain needed a game changer and he didnt do it!!!!!!!!

Pamela   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Whats going on with you Schnieder? Very critical of Obama. Wouldn't be a bad thing if objectivity comes into play.

EVN   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Zomg! did Mccain just say that Obama is correct about something????

hurry up someone run and check ...someone go see if hell has froze over!

Working Mom   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

McCain is debatine the past! He has not discussed the present issues.

Enough!!!!   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Why don't you just get a McCain sign Scneider? You know full well that all necessary info will remain disclosed in the Obama Admin. He will have advisors, as all other Presidents has had. Even McCain will need help. Just because your plane got shot down, that does not make you an authority on foreign policy.

Christy Horne   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Obama just put paid to this "speaking softly" argument of McCain's with his pointing to "Bomb Iran" and N. Korea statements.

Ramesh Shrestha   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

McCain is out of touch.

Ex-McCain supporter   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Well Bill McCain answers are all interesting – Kind of like he is getting them from the Twilight Zone. Does he really believe Iraqi's are living normal lives today.

Brendan   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Stop Calling me your friend Mccain!!!

I'M NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amanda   October 7th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

So what are we suppose to do?? Let them hang themselves?? I don't think MCSAME knows what he is saying....

Elizabeth - TEXAS - Former Republican   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

I bet Bill will vote for OBAMA when he gets in the voting booth.

Robin   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

These guys are squabbling with each other ... McCain sounds like he isn't committed to Afghanistan as much as Obama.

McCain can not control himself   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

He does not respect Obama as a person. I have seen McCain's disrespectful behaviour many times in the past aimed mostly at those who are too weak to fight back. McCain is now and has always been a bully. Now he has met his match in Obama.

Tilden, NYC   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

McCain said this last debate too. It strikes me as dangerous ground. Advocating that the Government not "talk straight" to the American people about such foreign intervention could really play badly after the WMD deceptions.

Jerome   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

What happened to I will hunt him (binladen) to the gates off Hell. McCain is losing bad and I mean bad

Greggamma   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

I disagree. It's no secret we are after him. You can demonstrate superior tactics with smoke and mirrors. You really can't tell Bin Laden something he already knows but have been ineffective in following through.

LITTLE JOHN   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

MacCain has the answers and by god we need him as president...

mgb408   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Bill – is it just me or is mccain on the defence today...on foreign policy!!...

sjp   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

how did you figure that out between the friends, heros and history?

Phillip   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

I agree, maybe not talking about it. But it's been SEVEN years of hunting down Bin Laden. At this point, we need to hear that we'll do what it takes. And I really don't think Pakistan would object if we succeeded in killing Bin Laden. They may be mad about how it happens, but in the end, it's good for all. But saying it out loud . . . I'm mixed on that. But I do like hearing it.

bnavoter   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

and in the meantime, mccain talks about bombing iran and north korea. what a hypocrite.
as mccain keeps pushing obama to admit he was "wrong" about the surge, how about mccain admit he was wrong about supporting the war from the beginning???? this guy is unbelievable.

american mom   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

I think Obama gave excellent answer on Pakistan...I see u support McCain...

claimjmpr   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Yes, interesting ANSWER from McCain on Pakistan...crux of OBAMA? Was anyone listening? McCain put words in Obama's mouth.

ines   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

It's always something, even if McCain agrees with Obama's plan

Jen from IN   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Just like he said a timeline in Iraq would be the wrong thing to do, but isn't the prime minister and others wanting a specific schedule. really they have won part of this war. While we spend billions on the war to nowhere we have put our economy in the toilet

texas voter   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

He is confused,AGAIN, he needs to call Gidget!!!!!

joyce   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

yes bill s. we know mcsain is all right on every issue
(NOT)
BILL OVIOUS YOU ARE REPUBLICAN

Working Mom   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Someone offer McCain some cheese to go with his "WHINE"! Wah Wah Obama Wah!

tgram   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

too late. we've been talking about it for months now. tell mickey mccain it's too late to agree and then disagree.

Wendy in NC   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

If McCain "knows how to get Bin Laden" isn't it treasonous to withhold that information from our military leaders? Is he planning to keep that a secret if he fails to win the election?

EBC, Boyds, MD   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

HA! HA! HA! HA!

NOW..... AFTER CLAIMING HE'LL BOMB, BOMB, BOMB IRAN!!! HE DOESN'T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW THAT SEN. OBAMA WILL CRUSH AND DEFEAT BIN LADIN?

GET OUTTA HERE SEN. McCAIN WITH THAT CROCK OF CRAP!!!

obamasupporter   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Why does McCain continue to attack Obama...This FORCES Obama to have a come-back. Please McCain just answer the questions...

David   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Well then Tom should not bring it up in a televised debate....but simply stating a policy doesn't mean he is going to give the time, date and location of an attack...

raulgil5   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

How can McCain sit there and say that Obama is saying something that he is not? Right in front of him too. We went to Iraq and McCain supported it. That was wrong and he is right there deriving his own lies in front of the American people!

Amanda   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Why not give them a chance to fix it before we go in. Not just go in Suprise we are going to bomb you now. I really agree with Obamas diplomatic policy

FL for Obama   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

At least Obama has a strategy! "That one" is THE ONE for America. Go back to the home, "old man," and send Caribou Barbie back to Alaska!!

California Gold   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Wish Obama would say, "There ya go agin' John"

Betty   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Interestingly, the line flattens instead of going up when McCain talks about our current military situation... Isn't this his strong suit?

EJ (USA)   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

That's not interesting Schneider. He pretty much said the same thing at the last debate. It fell flat that time as well.

saint paul mn   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

what was hsi answer Bill please translate

the millions of people with cable can not figure out what he has said besides

my friends

McSAME is flatlining.....STAT ! ! ! ! ! !

Another Republican for Obama   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

No big deal, Bill. Sadam knew US was coming and it didn't change anything.

Obama is responding to a question. I love his answers.

Elizabeth Gerou   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

What I don't like is that by refusing to talk about it, he is refusing to answer any of the questions on this hugely important issue. What a cheap way to duck a pertinent question!

t   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Mr Schneider is really starting to sound like a GOP strategist

Suzanne   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Wasn't the question posed? Aren't they supposed to answer the questions?

Unfortunately, that, in fact, announces it to the Pakistanis.

Griff   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Barack Obama in not an American... What has he got to lose????

Benjamin Wells   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

YES BILL YOU ARE RIGHT...MCCAIN IS NOT HITTING ANY TARGET...IT SEEMS LIKE HE IS CONFUSED...

Trish   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Has anyone noticed how biased Schneider is in favor of McCain?

Leslie in Alabama   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Isn't this the way the war on terror should be handled? Oh and don't get caught.

tiffany in ohio   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

MCcAIN=PAST OBAMA=FUTURE

Bama4Obama   October 7th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

What...does McCain believe in sneak attacks? Worked REAL well when we went into Somalia...and the press was already there waiting when the troops landed!

Robert   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

What on earth did McCain mean by that response to Obama? He fought for time then stumbled over himself saying literally nothing in 2 minutes. I actually don’t even get what he was trying to say to even agree or disagree with it.

Obama is creaming McCain on foreign policy.

PS – McCain did not just sing about bombing Iran to another veteran. HE IS ON VIDEO SAYING THAT LINE TO A LARGE AUDIENCE. He knows this is a lie.

Trysh, Los Angeles   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Gee Schneider, did you decide McCain did best at 5:30 today?

ms j   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

MCCAIN TREATS OBAMA LIKE A CHILD–THE ELDERLY LOOKING DOWN ON US AND NOT ACCEPTING THE FACT THAT WE ARE GROWN NOW.

Kevin   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

It's an old and overly simplistic answer; he's used it before. Hello?

kim   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Why not? Why not announce to Al Qeada that they aren't safe in Paksitan either? As Obama pointes out, how is that different than saying "Next up baghdad" or "Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran"

Sonam- GA   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

God the old man is stupid.

"OK FOLKS THIS IS WHERE WE WILL ATTACK, AND THEN WE WILL BOMB THIS CITY ON THIS DAY AT THIS TIME, OH BUT DONT TELL THE PAKISTANIS, YOU HAVE TO SPEAK SOFTLY."

Flora   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Did I hear that correctly.. Senator McCain agreed that he did say 'Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran' and he said he was just joking with his veteran friend?

Michael, Pensacola, FL   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Bush has adopted Obama's strategy, so I guess he was right!

Darrell   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

It has always been OK to say that you will do whatever is needed to get Bin Laden and no tactical secrets were given by Obama and McCain is out to lunch and out of touch.

anyonmous   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (CNN) — That's a very interesting answer from McCain on Pakistan.

The crux of it was that while Obama's policy may be right…it's foolish to announce it to the Pakistanis; You probably should do what Obama suggests, but you shouldn't talk about it.

McCain giving advice on strategy? Give me break! look at his campaign.

maybe he's advising on strategery! LOL wink wink

Joe   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Obama pointed it out. This is the same guy who chanted 'bomb bomb Iran...and he was not joking to a vet.

The Lady   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Schneider, I can tell who you are voting for.

Citizen   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

McCain has been playing Obama's game all night. Obama is the next President of the United States.

Dr. Roy   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Bill, we have been on the same page tonight. Does that show Obama's inexperience? Does he understand?

Duop Chak, Colorado Springs, Colorado   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Why?

Jonathan   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Is exactly the same way with a timeline. Dont you think people have a timeline for getting us out of Iraq? Why would you let ANYONE know our timeline? All that means is the enemy has to wait us out.

Fitzpatrick   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

MISTER. WHERE DID YOU HEAR OBAMA SAY THAT????

JH   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Well of COURSE. We didn't announce anything in Nicaragua, did we?

Angela   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Obama's not saying anything that everyone already knows. He's just being honost and not hiding anything

No Hillary = No Obama   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Obama has a policy?

Betsy in Minneapolis   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Schneider you need to put a sock in it. NO ONE wants your comments anymore. Obama is owning this debate and you cannot stand it. Can we please hear from someone else?

ms j   October 7th, 2008 10:18 pm ET
