Palin represents ‘fatal cancer’ to GOP, conservative says

(CNN) – Conservative New York Times columnist David Brooks, who has expressed doubts about Sarah Palin’s readiness to serve as vice president, said this week the Alaska governor “represents a fatal cancer to the Republican Party.”

Brooks praised Palin’s debate performance and called her a natural political talent, but told a New York audience Monday that “experience matters”: “Do I think she’s ready to be president or vice president? No, she’s not even close to that,” he said.

“…Reagan had an immense faith in the power of ideas,” he also said, in remarks first reported by the Huffington Post. “But there has been a counter, more populist tradition, which is not only to scorn liberal ideas, but to scorn ideas entirely. And I'm afraid that Sarah Palin has those prejudices. I think President Bush has those prejudices."

Other prominent conservatives, including George Will and David Frum, have publicly questioned Palin's readiness to be vice president. Prominent conservative columnist Kathleen Parker, an early supporter, said late last month that recent interviews have shown the Alaska governor is "out of her league" and should leave the GOP presidential ticket for the good of the party.

Brooks himself has also written skeptically about Palin. "Sarah Palin has many virtues," he wrote in a recent column. "If you wanted someone to destroy a corrupt establishment, she'd be your woman. But the constructive act of governance is another matter. She has not been engaged in national issues, does not have a repertoire of historic patterns and, like President Bush, she seems to compensate for her lack of experience with brashness and excessive decisiveness."

Sara Palin is not ready to lead and John McCain showed poor judgment in selecting her. I question her intelligence. I am merely nitpicking here but didn"t anyone notice that she repeatedly pronounced "nuclear" as "nucular" in her debate? She's another George Bush!!!

We need more Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich to balance the government. we had a perfect match in the 1990's and The People of America, benefitted from their wranglings.

the Republicans and Democrats are a great fuse of perfection. It's like a Ying/Yang relationship. A perfect balance forms a circle. No one is right, but add a little bit of this here and there, and you have the greatest economy... see the 1990's

Be a maverick McCain and kick Pailn to the curb. She sucks and now you suck McCain.
And by the way McCain you served your country as POW many years ago, let it go already. It is great but that is not a reason for you to be the President.
All you said last night is that you can get the job done. HOW? Your reputation is going out the door.
So what if Obama has or hasn't took on his party, you haven't took on your campaign, your letting everyone take over you.

    WHO IS JOHN MCCAIN?
WILL THE REAL JOHN MCCAIN STAND
    MAVERICKMAVERICK WHERE IS HE I?

    GET RID OF PAILN

It's a relief to know some conservatives can see this woman for what she is - and isn't.
She will never be qualified to be the leader of this country, much less on the world stage.

We can always send Palin to the Wrangell Mountains for a bath in the mud pots and mud volcanos. Then she can go to Chena Hot Springs and wash off. Afterwards she can shoot some wolves from a helicopter before she goes moose hunting.

Oh wait – she can't do that because nothing can clean her off while she's wallowing in the mud that she's flinging!

Does Sarah know she's conducting hate rallies? Or is she that unaware? Something tells me this woman is not that unaware. She knows how to manipulate a crowd. What happens, however, if someone gets hurt or worse, God forbid?

I support "That One," but I have to wonder if John McCain really wants to go down this road. If so, he doesn't qualify to even run for President.

I am willing to give anyone a chance, but Palin is hateful. I'm sorry, she lost me as a Republican when she gave that hate filled, speech during the Republican convention. She and McCain have yet to figure out that people are tired of being in attack mode. I just don't understand what they don't get about that.

And who picked her to be a running mate?

    Right, enough said.

There is this mis conception also that she is a reformer, that she'll be able to tackle and change corruption. How about evidence and facts contradicting that? In fact, it is she who had actually abused power.

Why was she picked anyway? Because McCain thought he could pander to Hilary's voters. That's all. It's all about winning.

Palin is a joke!!!! I predict that after the election is over and Obama wins by a big margin that she will go back to Alaska and be finally be gone. I can't wait for Troopergate to be over. Then we will know Sara for the snake she is.

    Well stated.

I've never seen such high ambition and low intellectual curiosity since, well, Bush.

Palin is dangerous to America and she is the death of the GOP. Sure, the fringe loves her but the other 80% of the GOP have abandoned her.

She will leave the ticket. Of course she will say its because she needs to spend more time with her family. But she has no experience and she owe over 25K in back taxes. We know the real reason, and it has nothing to do with her family.

Nothing is fatal for the GOP. Once they break out the smear attacks, & fear tactics, America buys it!

Look at how quickly the polls are swinging. 2 days ago it was 50%-43%. Today it's 48%-44%. And this is after Obama clearly won the debate too!. Unbelievable.

Ahhhh what a relief to hear it said. If there was any hope of me accepting McCain, he trounced it when he picked Palin.

All politics aside, she does not represent positive, intelligent, successful women well. Women have tough when playing on the same field as men and winking and smiling like a pagent competitor doesn't help. The base coddles and encourages her, but they won't let her show what she is made of and speak to the press. I KNOW Pawlenty and Romney would be allowed to speak to the press unfiltered. It is sexist to do otherwise.
