(CNN) — Democratic vice presidential nominee Sen. Joe Biden is set to join Jay Leno on "The Tonight Show," Obama-Biden spokesman David Wade tells CNN.

This will be Biden's first late-night talk show appearance since being named to the number two spot on the Democratic ticket. Beau Biden, Biden's son, appeared on the late-night mainstay on September 16.

Sen. Biden, who was recently parodied on "Saturday Night Live" after his debate against Gov. Sarah Palin, will appear on the talk show on October 16.

I've marked my book to watch this - it will be fun because Biden has a sense of humor versus Grumpy POW and Caribou Barbie!

Nervous in Texas   October 10th, 2008 9:20 am ET

I'm so glad he's on this ticket, and I really wish he would get down and dirty with the other side. They are throwing out too many crap but Obama should not stoop to their level. Joe and all the serrogates need to call out all their dirty deeds all their lies and all thier ties, hit them with our kitchen sink since they are throwing out theirs as well as thier toilet with all the rediculously hateful stuff. I'm so mad at them and I wish Joe would just give them more punches. It is sickening their Klan rallies, and for a presidential mominee to incite it and not do something about it is completely wrong. He's turning into a demom.

phil s.   October 10th, 2008 3:12 am ET

if anything tragic happens to obama, GOD forbid, because of the hate that mccain and palin are inciting in ameriKKKans, be prepared for a civil war.

Independent for Obama-Biden   October 10th, 2008 1:01 am ET

You go Joe!!! Good to you and your family. This country needs honest people like you and Barack to restore the faith in America and bring about world peace. It is despicable that Palin is inciting the crowd with such hate mongering. My fellow Americans : let us prove that we will not tolerate such racism. A VOTE FOR OBAMA-BIDEN IS A VOTE FOR PEACE! GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS Y'ALL

Paula Lacey   October 10th, 2008 12:59 am ET

McCain often seems confused.

Paula Lacey   October 10th, 2008 12:59 am ET

Which of the two candidates is nicer, and calm. This is what is needed to talk to world leaders, not a bully.

Jay is good times.

Destiny   October 10th, 2008 12:55 am ET

I watch Jay Leno every night and I can't to see you. I think you and Obama are great men and leaders. It would be a blessing to have two great Americans elected as the next President and Vice president.

Paula Lacey   October 10th, 2008 12:55 am ET

If Republicans loved America more than money, they would be voting for Obama.

Paula Lacey   October 10th, 2008 12:51 am ET

Joe has never committed adultery and is a good parent. He is sort of a Washington outsider. He is stable and solid. His children have turned out well. He will not embarrase America because he can have a decent conversation with an interviewer without Obama having to sit next to him.

Louvene   October 10th, 2008 12:25 am ET

Joe Biden and John McCain' have been friends in the past. It is a shame that lies and dirty tricks have now broken that friendship. Joe Biden's career will florish because he is true to himself and the American people. John McCain's career will end with Ameicans remembering this ugly dirty campaign and not the war hero that at one time put his country first.

lawyerlady   October 10th, 2008 12:18 am ET

He was in my hometown of Saint Joseph, Missouri today (I now live in California). My sister went to the rally and had a great time! She said Joe was "fired up" and she then went to the Obama/Biden headquarters and signed up to volunteer. We love Joe and his service to the country. You will be a great VP.

Denise   October 10th, 2008 12:09 am ET

I will add it to the calendar

Bruce   October 9th, 2008 11:59 pm ET

I just had to post this comment.

The tone of the rallies that McCain and Palin have been having are really scaring the crap outa me. It just puts the image in my mind of the KKK getting riled up to go Lynching.

I really hope nothing bad happens in the comming months.

keith   October 9th, 2008 11:49 pm ET

Oh it's Leno, not Letterman. My mistake. As Gilda Radner used to say, "That's very different…never mind."

arlene, CA   October 9th, 2008 11:49 pm ET

We'll be watching you Joe. I never miss Leno, one of my favorits & of coarse SNL. I know you'll be a big hit ! Obama / Biden 08-12

Independent but Leaning   October 9th, 2008 11:48 pm ET

People keep saying "take back the flag."

What's Obama going to do, stand on it? That's what his terrorist buddy Ayers did in a picture for a Chicago magazine WHILE BARRY WAS WORKING WITH HIM. Fact check it. Barry knew what Ayers was all about, but you know what they say, birds of a feather…

winnie47   October 9th, 2008 11:46 pm ET

i hope he uses the national stage to point out the lynch mob john mccain has been cultivating at his rallies. something needs to be done beofre real violence breaks out!

ket   October 9th, 2008 11:46 pm ET

Paul Begala got it right tonight on CNN. while the rest of the commentary and the host Anderson Cooper gives both Campaigns the same and equal scrutiny every evening it is clear the McCain camp is the only one giveing hateful and dispicable rethoric. Mr Begala is the person that finally got it right. The Obama camps rallies have been respectful not calling for McCains head or yelling kill him. Obama has been Presidentual and you should acknowledge this.CNN you should be ashamed to always want to sugar coat MCcains hate filled rallies. You have an obligation to your veiwership. Thanks Paul.

Barbara CA   October 9th, 2008 11:44 pm ET

Your likeability, honesty and your ability to 'tell it like it is' have really won me over. You are a hero of mine 'Uncle Joe'. Have great fun tonight.

Go Obama/Biden.

One man, one vote.

Raymond   October 9th, 2008 11:43 pm ET

Everytime I see Joe Biden, I can't help but smile and be proud of the statesman that he is. He is a man of character, dignity, and integrity. I would be so proud to say that he is our Vice President. Barack Obama's choice of Joseph Biden speaks volumes of his judgement! I truly hope that they win.

Tamara, VA   October 9th, 2008 11:31 pm ET

This from the Alaskan Independence Party's list of party issues: "The government punishes parents if they chose their childs ciriculum if it is not administered in a government school."

These people can't even spell the word, "CURRICULUM", and don't know that "childs" requires and apostrophe, but yet they don't want the government involved in education. Why does this matter? Because Todd Palin was a member of this organization for years, Sarah Palin's political career was influenced by them, and SHE has the audacity to criticize Obama about his affiliations. WAKE UP AMERICA!!

Tiff of lithia springs   October 9th, 2008 11:31 pm ET

I thought is was funny that Joe found the SNL snip so hilarious. Have a good time and get your message on the issues out there.

I was a Hillary supporter and I questioned Obama's pick before I got to know Joe Biden. What a wonderful American!!! Like, President Clinton"I love Joe Biden". I think an Obama/biden presidency is the change we all are looking for.Biden makes me proud to be an American Woman.

Well wishes to the Biden family   October 9th, 2008 11:18 pm ET

Good luck Joe-

In light of the hate that Sarah Palin has inspired, please inspire the American people to love and accept one another.

Please talk about how this country CAN AND SHOULD be more tolerant to all races, and that this is the great American melting pot. Muslims, Jews, Blacks, and Hispanics are human AND DESERVE respect for their cultures. We are ALL beautiful in God's eyes!

I hate seeing that the word Muslim is so openly hated and despised. This is unacceptable- SHAME ON THOSE who will not vote for a candidate because they falsely believe he is a muslim. He is Christian and lives by Christian values.

YES, We are fighting terrorist extremists, but this doesn't represent the many muslim-Americans who live among us in peace.

STOP THE HATE. THAT'S NOT WHAT AMERICA IS ABOUT.

Jeri   October 9th, 2008 11:09 pm ET

Joe, you truly are a moral man with integrity! I wanted Obama to pick Hillary as VP, but he has proven he made a wise choice in Joe Biden. Please, please, please keep speaking out on the disgusting, racist tone of John McCain's campaign. When John McCain's supporters are yelling "terrorist" or 'kill him" of Obama someone needs to speak up and Joe Biden did it so well. America we can't let this angry, hateful party take over the White House. This isn't four more years of the same, it is much worse!

Barbara lee ruiz   October 9th, 2008 11:09 pm ET

Joe Biden and I have something in common: we are both survivors/we are called "cranies"- so, in his bio- I see that he had brain surg. the same time that I did. Perhaps that is why I am so proud of him. I continue to practice every day- and have two offices. He is definitely a great choice!!!!

aware   October 9th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

I hope they ask him about this! Obama twists the truth or lies?

Obama did indeed vote against a bill in the Illinois State Senate that was identical to the federal legislation that sought to protect babies who survive abortions." :(

Mr. Obama's stand on the issue is significant. The federal "Born Alive Infant Protection Act" sailed through the Senate in 2001 on a vote of 98 to 0. The bill was supported by Senator Barbara Boxer, the body's leading pro-choice spokeswoman, and was not opposed by the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League. By getting his facts wrong, Mr. Obama is now in the difficult position of trying to explain why he voted against a bill that the legislative record shows addressed infanticide rather than abortion.

Terri from Texas   October 9th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Joe Biden is truly admirable and honest. He and Senator Obama are both refreshing and extremely intelligent. This is the EXACT combination this country needs. How can we go wrong with these two steering us in the right direction? May God bless both of them and this great nation of ours.

Texas Mom for Obama   October 9th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

How any American can support the McCain/Palin campaign is baffling. They would do nothing but destroy this country. They are simply sickening!

America think for you   October 9th, 2008 9:37 pm ET

The RNC ticket is living in the past. We want to know what are their plan for now and for the future economy. They seem to stuck in the past trying to tie Barack to staff that happen when he was eight years old. McCain was an adult when Keating 5 happened. He knew what he was doing and we need to question his character and Palin character for firing that guy because he refused to fire her ex brother in law.

miky   October 9th, 2008 9:35 pm ET

Mcain: I would rather lie to the country to win an election

Ray, Calif   October 9th, 2008 9:32 pm ET

Cool, wonder if Sen. Biden has anything good to say about John McCain? Taking a page from Sarah Palin I want to talk about Jeffrey Toobin's comment on Anger in the McCain Campaign. I believe he said that anger in the campaign is a losing recipe. Lets look back a few months with the Obama campaign. Several of Obama supporters where angry and asked Obama when he was going to fight back and take the gloves off?? I wonder what the microphones picked up in those rallies? The RNC has stated what is acceptable behavior and what is not in the rallies. Hecklers don't always say nice things either, murderer, etc…This election cycle is not in a microcosm. Perhaps we should look at the whole picture and at both sides. Just like the financial crisis there is enough blame to go around during this election cycle. There is a schism in congress right now and it shows in this political cycle.

I have been watching CNN on U.S.A. Election center, t.v. programs also on my computer. I am from Montreal, Québec,C. I did find it very long the primaries and now the presidential. At times I was intrigued , amused also but mainly very interested but, since Palin has been included in the race I feel like it is turning ridicule. Can any american seriously imagine her being the president of the U.S.? I believe that the joke would be on your country as a whole. In sush hard times for you all and also the repercutions for us here in Canada if anyting happen to McCain if he was elected there would not be anyone taking you seriously around the world.

I can't imagine worst nigtmare for the future of the U'S' and also your position on the new worldwide competition. Respect is won not just given on a wimp of an old man.

I am really getting weary of the repulicans running such a smear campaign, apparently they think they can continue to get away from the real issues worrying most americans , by this nonsense they are trying. I am truly dissapointed in Senetor McCain, I thought he was much more admirable then he has shown himself to be in this campaign……. before this campaign I liked john mccain, I can no longer hold that position…… Its time he and his repulican cronies stop trying to scare the american people and concentrate on actually doing something for the little people instead of all the fat cats .

well, these ads are so bad!
McCain doesn't have any plan to offer.
these ads don't help any American, who's in trouble in those days!
in times of such a crisis, no smart American voter cares about something, that happened decades ago. come on,
Look at the national polls (one has Obama leading by 11%), look at the battleground states, also including WV. they all are leaning towards Obama, because he's talking the issues, The repugs do not!!
CNN has Obama leading comfortable and I'm looking for election night and CNN projecting Obama the New POTUS. :)
Obama/Biden in a landslide, becauce finally America wakes up!

Why isn't anyone the media talking about the mob atmosphere at McCain/Palin campaign rallys? After being incited by McCain and Palin, the mobs surrounding them appear ready to get a rope and lynch Obama!

This has to be the nastiest, most unAmerican campaign I've ever seen. Aren't there laws against inciting riots? These two and their supporters are threatening to destroy this country, and the media seems happy to urge them on.
