Keating is a McCain campaign co-chair.

(CNN) - A prominent surrogate for John McCain on Thursday raised Barack Obama's admitted cocaine use as a teenager and said the Illinois senator should speak candidly about it to the American people.

Speaking to Dennis Miller, a comedian and conservative radio talk show host, former Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating said Obama should be more forthright about his background and what he called his "very extreme" record.

"He ought to admit, ‘You know, I've got to be honest with you. I was a guy of the street. I was way to the left. I used cocaine. I voted liberally, but I'm back at the center,'" Keating, a co-chair of McCain’s campaign, said Obama should tell voters. "I mean, I understand the big picture of America. But he hasn't done that."

An aide to John McCain said Keating was not directed by the campaign to make the comments.

"We didn’t ask him to do it,” the aide said. “He didn’t clear it with us, but obviously he’s read Senator Obama’s books.”

The Obama campaign has not responded to the comments.

The remarks ring similar to comments made by prominent New Hampshire Democrat Bill Shaheen, a Hillary Clinton supporter, during the primary. Shaheen predicted in December that Obama’s drug past would be a major Republican talking point if her were the Democratic nominee. He later apologized for the comments, but stepped down from his role in the Clinton campaign. Black Entertainment Television founder Bob Johnson, another Hillary Clinton backer, also had to apologize after making overt references to Obama's drug use at campaign rally in South Carolina.

In Obama's 1995 book Dreams of My Father, he writes that he was once headed in the direction of a "junkie" and a "pothead. Referring to his emotional struggles as a young man, Obama writes, "Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack, though."

Obama did speak during his primary campaign about his past experimentation with drugs and alcohol in high school.

"I made some bad decisions that I've actually written about," he told New Hampshire high school students last November. "There were times when I, you know, got into drinking, experimented with drugs. There was a whole stretch of time where I didn't really apply myself a lot."

Bush was drunk till he was 40 years old and had a drunk driving rap, and wasen't a teenager when this occured. Obama was honest and told us about his experience with drugs in the primaries. So what's the big scoop??

All these issues have been addressed in a publication already. This means that people that are willing and able to read can know this knowledge for themselves. And why is something you did in high school important at this stage in his lfe? Oh yeah, because the opponent is like way behind in the polls! Bury them Barack!

Oh come on! We've all done stupid things when we were young. Republicans and Democrats alike are equally guilty of making naive mistakes in their younger years. Hey, I'll even admit that I've gone through a "pothead" phase in my own life. But the point is that I got out of it once I came to the realization that it was a detriment to my future success. I'm clean now, and have a graduate degree in engineering. None of the people I know, even my own family, hold that against me. I refuse to hold adolescent indiscretions against either candidate. Neither should any of you! Especially any of you out there who have ever "experimented" at any point in your life.

I agree with all of the above comments. There was a time I believed McCain had some integrity. That time is long gone.

Anyone voting for the McCain/Palin ticket must be a low-information voter.

McCain is a man who has become totally devoid of any integrity. He continues to lie, lie, lie. And why bring up these issues from the past. Everyone has some things they are not proud of in their past. What matters is how someone overcome these and lives a positive and honorable life now.

McCain has no honor. He is so anxious to get into power as president, he has lost all sense of reason and decency. He is shameful and has soiled his military honor as well by doing this. Remember this is the man who said in an interview with the DesMoines Register:

“I’m not saying this is the perfect answer. If I were dictator, which I always aspire to be, I would write it … a little bit differently.”

Dictator right!! I am sure that was an honest slip of the tongue. This is exactly what he would be.

No McCain No Palin unless we want the country to become a banana republic.

eddie   October 9th, 2008 8:50 pm ET

ok why is that so important about what he did as a kid ,instead what he is doing now as a man

Deborah   October 9th, 2008 8:49 pm ET

Let me see if I understand this. Obama admits to experimenting with drugs, not an UNHEARD of event for teenagers, and others, in this country. Yet, because he discusses it in his book, and obviously did NOT become a "junkie" or "pot head" but instead went on to Columbia University and got a LAW degree, this is a knock against him???

Now he's being slammed by McCain/Palin and surrogates for being HONEST?? For being and EXAMPLE of what a person can achieve when they resist/overcome the temptation of drugs??

Yeah, sheesh...wouldn't want to set a GOOD EXAMPLE, now would we, McCain/Palin??? Much prefer to sling mud in your desperation.

tmike   October 9th, 2008 8:49 pm ET

The McCain campaign is in full desperation mode. The democratic primary already vetted Obama in case they were'nt watching. The McCain campaign has been out manuevered and overmatched from the start. They have run out of any legitimate ideas and frankly it is sad.

CWhite   October 9th, 2008 8:49 pm ET

About 75% of America is with Barack on this. If you have not tried drugs you are very much in the minority. This did not hurt Bill Clinton AT ALL!

Rob R   October 9th, 2008 8:49 pm ET

Yeah, and Bill Clinton smoked pot (whether he inhaled or not) and I'll take 8 years of Clinton to 8 years of Bush (who was an alcoholic no less).

I don't think most people care about what he did when he was a teen or young adult. I mean come on, how many of us did some form of drugs or drink a lot in college?

I smoked weed, did mushrooms, and drank like a fish in college. Now, I am 33 and a parent and haven't touched any drugs since college and I drink socially. But according to Republican logic, my past makes me a bad person for life. How pathetic.

Most Americans will realize these are all pathetic smears and highly obvious ones at that. All the more reason to get rid of as many Republicans as possible and replace them with Obama as President and a 60 seat majority in the Senate. That would be such poetic justice to reduce the Republicans to an irrelevant minority in the Senate that wouldn't be able to filibuster!!!!

Doug Hughes   October 9th, 2008 8:48 pm ET

Is this Keating any relation to Charles Keating, the S&L banker who was a personal friend of Senator McCain? The fraud & mismanagement of Lincoln Savings & Loan was bad. Senator McCain was (surprise) front & center in helping the S & Ls stay deregulated while his pal played fast & loose with uninsured depositors funds.Keating was sent to jail. McCain got off with a reprimand from Senate Ethics for trying to stop the investigation.

Sue M   October 9th, 2008 8:48 pm ET

I' m from OKlahoma and Keating is not highly thought of in this State.......what's that tell you? So what if he did experiment with drugs, a lot of people have but wouldn't admitt it......Obama did admit it so that makes him an honest man in my opinion. With all this trash the republicans are throwing it is all going to come back to them and hit them in the face on Nov.4.........this is not helping McCain get the undecided voters or the women voters, he is turning more away than he is getting to vote for him.

This is between Obama and his God! Judge not and be ye not judged. For all the Bible reading the right wingers claim to do, they sure do not walk the talk!

Now is the time for serious prayer for Sen. Obama and Sen. Biden. The devil is busy. Unfortunately the pastor that prayed over Gov. Palin could rebuke the spirit within. So now it's up to the rest of us to band together and rebuke the evil spirits within the Republican campaign.

The prayer of a righteous man availeth much! Let us pray....

It's sad to see the Republicans disgrace America because they are so desperate to maintain their grip on power. If their myriad failings of the past 28 years don't convince voters it's time to truly change the direction of America, then certainly the disgraceful, despicable and disgusting rhetoric spewed by the Republican Party in recent days certainly should.

Jennifer   October 9th, 2008 8:46 pm ET

Has John McCain lost his mind???? Here was a man, who by all reasonable accounts, came into this election as the front-runner. He has the experience, he is a distinguished veteran with a record of bipartisan cooperation, he was not the same kind of Republican as George W.... How has it come to this? John McCain and Sarah Palin have brought shame to themselves in this campaign. How can they solicit votes from people who are silly enough to get caught up in smear campaigns when our country is in a serious crisis? I guess John McCain really is as out of touch as everyone says.

I get it! Ayers (who, by the way was Citizen of the Year in Chicago in 1997), "ohmygod Barack took some drugs when he was an adolescent"–It's becoming clear now, with the increasingly desperate and ridiculous tone of McCain's campaign: McCain is still living in the 60's! The Weathermen, anti-Viet Nam protests, etc. etc.–McCain is still THERE. Get over it, John. We know you came from an Admiral's family, we know you were among those who volunteered for service, we know you were shot down and tortured, but Viet Nam is OVER. The Weathermen are FINISHED. Viet Nam was an ILLEGAL WAR. People TAKE DRUGS AS ADOLESCENTS AND ARE STILL OK AS ADULTS.

How does McCain sleep at niight – on a corkscrew I think.

THORNINURSIDE   October 9th, 2008 8:44 pm ET

Every wine barrel has dregs at the bottom. They don't go down very well, and neither do the pathetic attempts by the McCain folks to dredge up scum. The Arizona patriarch never fails to cash in on his POW days. He tries to distance himself from his record of helping the Vietcong in its propaganda against our country, and no one doubts that he did it unwillingly, but while there's no disgrace in breaking under torture there's no heroism in it either. He, like any of us veterans,is deserving of the gratitude of his fellow citizens but it doesn't entitle him to a seat in the Oval Office. History books last longer than sleazy sound bytes. He should remember this, and try to preserve what little respect he still has left.

Obama has never tried to hide his past mistakes. That is what sets him apart from many other great politicians and not so great politicians. What a relief to finally have a politician who is not only imperfect, but admits that he is not perfect.

The McCain/Palin ticket obviously needs to tie a rope and hold on. The ship is sinking and the camp's efforts to bail out are inevitably useless.

Patricia   October 9th, 2008 8:42 pm ET

Where has this guy been? He must not read much. Obama talked about this in his book. He explained that he was going to be up front about it in his campaign. He talked about it on tv early on in his campaign and answered host show questions about it i.e. on Larry King Live. And I don't see why that would matter now. There are MANY younger voters who have been a part of that scene and would understand where he is coming from. Those of you who have children who are now around 35 know what I am talking about. I know the pressures my kids went through in high school and college. I wish they hadn't felt a need to fall into peer pressure, but they did. However, they are very productive lovely adults now. And it is very obvious none of it affected his brain – he is sharper than most. I appreciate his natural gifts for leadership. He definitely is a natural. I agree with Michelle Obama when she said he can see a complex situation and understand it – and explain it in terms most people can't.
People ask the wrong questions. How could he have taken drugs? The question should be, did he get past it? Cindy McCain seems to have overcome her drug problem. Are you going to dig that back up too?

I don't believe that G.W. Bush ever told us much at all about his drunken and drug using past. I've known people in Houston that grew up right next door to him, and they could tell you pretty interesting stories about his affinity for blow.

The fact is that a majority of us experimented with drugs of one sort or another when we were young. We all made mistakes, but what's important and relevant is what we made of ourselves and who we are today.

Very desperate tactics (not strategy) by Republicans.

George W. Bush admitted to using drugs including pot and cocaine, as well as being a heavy drinker. "W" was arrested for DUI on at least 2 occasions.

I'm disappointed that CNN would bother with this story.

Patty   October 9th, 2008 8:38 pm ET

McCain and his surrogates are pathetic and dangerous....his wife is out there, his VP pick is out there, his mouthpieces are out there, all spreading hatred; inciting if not actually encouraging those at their rallies to yell threats of violence while they are speaking at the podium. I saw Palin actually smiling widely when some of this went on....and following up with more. McCain is allowing the hatred to continue with the reasoning that this is the only way he can win. The fact that he considers this an acceptable path to the white house really shows me the character of the man and the team.

If McCain really was all about "country first" he would bow out now and wish Obama and the country well....

Susan from Scotts Valley, CA   October 9th, 2008 8:38 pm ET

Desperation. By the time we get to the election, they'll be claiming it was Obama that orchestrated 9-11.

Tegan   October 9th, 2008 8:38 pm ET

One would think that the Republican party would be ashamed of their Geezer (adultry, lying in own autobiograpy, USS Forrestal incident that left many dead, flipflopping all over the place about what he says he said, disrespecting other candidates, etc.) and Gidget (who is being investigated as I type for abuse of power, has made a speech for a seperatist group, and has just made a mockery of women who are in politics and personally intelligent women anywhere, etc.). The way they conduct themselves has nothing to do with being presidential or vice presidential. If you think the independents are responding well to their hate filled campaign, check the polls. On second thought, I guess maybe the Republicans don't care. Cheney and Bush aren't exactly role models.

sly   October 9th, 2008 8:37 pm ET

At one point I really did think McCain would be a good choice for president (yes I had drank the kool aid), but now I don't even think he knows what is going on. Do you guys really think McCain knows what is going on around him and his campaign? Everyday day is a bag of surprises and still no clear message from him how he is going to get us out of this mess. I think we lost him right about when he said we should be able to deliver hot water bottles to dehydrated babies........

Matt   October 9th, 2008 8:37 pm ET

Somebody really needs to call the people who publish the Oxford English Dictionary, because the McCain campaign is redefining the word "disgusting" on an almost daily basis.

I sometimes wonder how dense the McCain staff think we are. It is amost funny to watch someone get up in a campaign speech and ask John McCain why he doesn't get tougher and then he stands there with a soft smile and acts like he is "holier than thou." Then Governor Keating brings up something like the teen drug phase which Barack Obama has already stated it happened and was a mistake that is long past. What what McCain's parties and almost flunking out of military school? They are even so dumb to state they are going after his character. I don't think they even "get the fact" that we are onto them.

And, yet those raising the issue of Obama's minimal drug use are the one and same who elected a former alcoholic and cocaine abuser, yes, I'm talking George W. Bush! And, what about that Rush Limbaugh-and what about Cindy McCain, and so on and forever.

In other words, stop it all you mudslingers-your time is up! Oh, and, of course, once again, McCain did not approve this!!!!

Kim   October 9th, 2008 8:37 pm ET

Instead of discussing Obama's drug use from his TEENAGE years, can the McCain campaign provide us with solutions to HELP the American people, during this rough economy.

This is getting really old – really fast.

Sue   October 9th, 2008 8:37 pm ET

The Republicans are sad, pathetic, desperate people. And I've been a Republican all my life (59 years). I'm voting Obama for the change this country needs.

Cheryl in Florida   October 9th, 2008 8:37 pm ET

This is ridiculous, what should be the issue is that as a teenager Obama may have experimented with drugs as many many others also did but turned it around, turned his back on it and went on to become a successful individual that made it his life goal to work for the good of citizens. If these individuals want to bring this up than is it not fair bring up the drug use Palin's 2 older children that was talked about by other teens in their town that partied with them or the fact the town Palin was mayor of has more than it's share of meth labs . Stop the nonsense and have your candidate focus on what matters, oh sorry I forgot he has no real policy to focus on just a hate filled campaigin so he does not have to discuss real issues.

NO McCain, NO Palin, NO CINDY   October 9th, 2008 8:37 pm ET

Bailout NOW and it'll save the economy? Serious blunder.

Since when has drug use/abuse been a liberal or a conservative issue??? Do conservatives REALLY want to go through the litany of their greatest hits in this regard????

Home ownership seems out of the question now. Talk to me about how I'm going to be able to afford groceries to feed my children, gas for my car, savings to pay for college - not this hogwash.

roger dowdle, lockhart, Tx   October 9th, 2008 8:36 pm ET

McCain and Palin should realize that when they condone people shouting "KILL HIM" about Obama, they are tacitly giving their approval to somebody who feels lik killing them. By incouraging such behavior, they may reach some nut case or really angry person who may not be thinking clearly, and possibly participating in a murder! And for Palin to tell those fools "you get it" shows how unworthy she is to be allowed on the repub. ticket.

Jena   October 9th, 2008 8:36 pm ET

It is so obvious that the McCain campaign is running out of ideas, so they are sinking to this low road political strategy. It's sickening. But it is very telling of what type a man McCain is and it calls into question his 'honor.'

McCain is desperate and so are his supporters and it shows!

Jane   October 9th, 2008 8:35 pm ET

I hope that people will pay attention to the non talking McCain without a plan. McCain will not talk about issues when asked a guestion but will be quick to say that Obama is this and that. Now how can a grown man play childlish games. Get a plan McCain. Get a Plan

Charles   October 9th, 2008 8:35 pm ET

Anybody remember the lovely little sitting Obama and McCain had at the church in California? As I recall, Obama didn't need a question to bring it up and describe it as his darkest hour. Asked what he most regrets, he said blatantly and to the people, my youthful transgressions and experimentation with drugs. This really is getting shameful but I fear Americans might just be afraid enough to fall for it.

Pathetic.

Major American companies are going down the tubes, people can't pay their mortgages and what do we here from the McCain campaign? Personal attacks that have been reheated from the primaries. It didn't work then and it won't work now.

Barack offers calm confident leadership in difficult times and has laid out thoughtful well crafted policies while McCain has been all over the map.

We'll see where McCain thinks the wind is blowing tomorrow and adjust his policy views from there.

This is so ridiculous!!! They will bring up every negative issue that Senator Obama clearly discussed either in his books or on the campaign to try to make Americans avoid the issues! How sad for the McCain campaign and the Republican party as a whole for lowering themselves so much. They continue to set the tone for a major collapse in November. Americans will decide to vote for a serious candidate who wants to deal with their problems, rather than a politician who sold out his "maverick" values and lost his way.

A.D. Vasquez   October 9th, 2008 8:33 pm ET

This question should be raised with all of our Republican brothers & sisters...

If John McCain is so great, why didn't you choose him in 2000? (Resoundingly so I must add.)

Also, if W. was a better choice then, then why on earth would you vote for him now?...

jim   October 9th, 2008 8:33 pm ET

At least Obama is honest enough to admit a weakness that he had as a youth. Unlike the rest of these crooked people who have ruined our country with lies!! I find that very refreshing and I forgive him!!

America needs an honest leader, unlike Bush and his party who continue to lie and mislead the American people into the dark times we face right now.

Honesty is what America needs right now, more than ever. Obama was able to rise out of his dark time to achieve an outstanding success. If he can do that for himself, and be honest about it, think about what he might do for our country!!

No more lies from Republicans who have run the average American into the ground for the benefit of the rich!! It's time we face our dark times, like Obama did, and rise to success! As neither a Republican or a Democrat, but just an average man – I stand with pride knowing an honest man will lead our country!

Again, I forgive him and I bet America does to.

Obama landslide and lets all forget about the miserable people who have lied to us for so long!!!!!

Why, Bush has kept his use secret. Obama experimented with coke, Palin with Marijuana. To most voters under 60 these are not big issues. They are especially small, given the country current problems. Both Obama who is on the left, this is not a secret. and McCain who has a very right wing voting record, have moved to the center. If you can;t believe one, why should we believe the other.
Obama knows a 60 radical, Palin;s husband belonged and Palin herself is sympathetic towards a political party whose founding father was buried in Canada because he hated the United States.

None of these are important issues in this election. Everyone has blemishes in their record.

I think that the McCains should also speak candidly to the American people about Cindy McCains drug addiction and illegal prescriptions. See entry cut and pasted from Wikipedia.
Prescription drug addiction:
In 1989, Cindy McCain became addicted to Percocet and Vicodin, opioid painkillers, which she initially took to alleviate pain following two spinal surgeries for ruptured discs, and to ease emotional stress during the Keating Five affair.[38][39][39][40][41] The addiction progressed to where she was taking upwards of twenty pills a day,[15] and she resorted to having an AVMT physician write illegal prescriptions in the names of three AVMT employees without their knowledge.[38][42] In 1992, her parents staged an intervention to force her to get help;[22] she told her husband about her problem, attended a drug treatment facility, began outpatient sessions, and ended her three years of addiction.[39] Surgery in 1993 resolved her back pain.[39][41]

In January 1993, Tom Gosinski, an AVMT employee, who had discovered her illegal drug use, was terminated on budgetary grounds.[43] Subsequently, he tipped off the Drug Enforcement Administration, and a federal investigation ensued.[38][43] McCain's defense team, led by John McCain's Keating Five lawyer John Dowd, secured an agreement with the U.S. Attorney's office for McCain, a first-time offender, that avoided charges while requiring her to pay financial restitution, enroll in a diversion program and do community service.[38][10][43] Meanwhile, in early 1994 Gosinski filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against McCain, which he told her he would settle for $250,000.[38][43] In response, Dowd characterized this request as blackmail and requested that officials investigate Gosinski for extortion.[38][43] In the end, both Gosinski's lawsuit and the extortion investigation against him were dropped.[38][39]

Knowing that the DEA prosecutors were about to publicly disclose her past addiction, McCain preemptively revealed the story to reporters saying she was doing so willingly: "Although my conduct did not result in compromising any missions of AVMT, my actions were wrong, and I regret them."[38][39][10

His drug use can be understandable because his father had died and he didn’t know what to do. Another possibility is that McCain has done drugs himself. After all he did serve in Vietnam and no offense to any veterans but there were lots of drugs floating around over there. Even my dad experienced it during his service. All I’m saying is that it wouldn’t be hard to believe that McCain has done some experimenting of his own.

Jeannie Baltimore, MD   October 9th, 2008 8:27 pm ET

Former Governor Keating, did you request an investigation into Sarah Palin's background? It seems the officials is Alaska are dragging their feet. Of course you didn't. Sarah Palin would never do the things she's been accused of. The way I see it, it's black and white.

OHIO FOR OBAMA   October 9th, 2008 8:27 pm ET

old man mcsame is desparate. he will do anything to win. they are telling out and out lies about PRESIDENT OBAMA. mcsame doesnt have any ideas for the economy, health care or anything else. it is so very sad. desperate old man.

Mike from Michigan   October 9th, 2008 8:27 pm ET

Good lord! Perhaps he should flagellate himself in the public square. He was stupid and young AND HE HAS ADMITTED IT! I read the books also but apparently I understood them. Someone should explain to Mr. Co-Chair that these books are what honesty looks like. If I had the behavior and academic record of Johnnie-Boy, I would tell anyone speaking of my opponent's youth to shut up! I'd say Mr. McCain fits into the definition of reckless better than maverick.

chris in oregon   October 9th, 2008 8:27 pm ET

Its about nightfall now for the McCain campaign and the the sewer rats are emerging attempting to nip at our intelligence. I want to say this once: ITS THE ECONOMY STUPID!!!!

iowaobamafan   October 9th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

Uh....I think he has talked about it openly. I don't think you write about your drug and alcohol use in a best selling book and expect it to be a secret. McCain is really getting desperate now. Obama has been fully vetted during the primaries. This has all been covered and re-covered. If it were an issue with the American people, Senator Obama would not be the democratic nominee.

kate   October 9th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

Is this guy kidding? Is this what these morons resort to when they know it is a lost cause for the republican party? I wonder what this jerk has in his skeleton closet. Actually I really don't want to know, I am sure he is as pathetic as any other jerk with blatant double standards. Why does the press continue to dignify this junk by giving it a voice? Wow, McCain's posse is just exemplary in their vaccuous ineptitudes.

Chris   October 9th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

I think Obama did talk to the American people when he wrote about his drug use in his book which is available at almost every bookstore all across the country! The McCain camp is very obviously getting really nervous now that sophomore comments like this are being made. Geez...

Joe   October 9th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

so disgusting. They don't want to talk about the issues. They admit they don't want to talk about the issues. 100% of their television ads are NEGATIVE ads. 1/3 of Obama's television ad's are negative ads.

people that support McCain/Palin should be ashamed of themselves. This much negativity is NOT what this country needs. Have you seen the type of people they are attracting at their rally's? People screaming disqusting foul language about Obama and McCain/Palin is saying absolutely nothing about it.

DESPICABLE!

We are watching the death of the Republican Party   October 9th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

Desperation has set in for the Republicans. The fact that Obama wrote openly about his teenage drug experimentation only makes him more of a real human person to whom many can relate. The only people who would profess to care about this as an issue in the election are the tiny-minded minorty of Ultra Right Christian Conservatives - many of whom, as we've seen, are hypocrite.

tom   October 9th, 2008 8:25 pm ET

The more you guys continue to talk about these issues you are gonna lose. Americans please don't be fooled these supporters who are asking these questions have already done well for themselves, they are not feeling the pressure like me and you McCain needs to start talking about what matters to me, I will bet you that he will lose if he can't tell me what he is going to do for this country.

Rob Duncan   October 9th, 2008 8:25 pm ET

Frank Keating was the governor of my state for several years, and he ran the state into the ground. His opinions, obviously, carry very little weight with me. The McCain campaign is grasping at any straw they can at this point, because they are desperately losing. Maybe they need to come up with some concrete plans for the US instead of just their sad and increasingly hysterical negative campaigning.

Spare Me   October 9th, 2008 8:25 pm ET

I knew that was going to come up!! I was just waiting for it to happen! Give me a break!! McCain can't win on pure issues of what we are going through right now so they have resorted to this. I don't care if Obama did drugs in his past. Just as long as he is not doing them now. For those of us who have lived long enough, most have something in our past that was stupid, so find something else to talk about!! I wonder what skeletons Keating has that have not been dug up yet. He sure is old enough to have plenty!

Winnie in Montana   October 9th, 2008 8:25 pm ET

Last time I checked, our current Commander in Chief used cocaine and is a recovering drunk. Try again conservatives.

While I'm on the subject, and CNN, please post this, Kelsey Grammer was on Glenn Beck tonight and I find he's an excellent example of why conservatives have no right to cast stones. A drug user, married to a stripper, then married to a Playboy "model" and he wants to set an example for political thought. Hmmm.

Karen   October 9th, 2008 8:25 pm ET

How much more public can Mr. Obama be about his past use of substances then to write about them. Sounds like he learned from his experience and may actually gain the respect of youth who wander down the same path...heres an idea Mr McCain, how about discussing your ideas instead of slinging mud?

tigerakabj   October 9th, 2008 8:25 pm ET

What is it with McCain and his attraction to people with the last name Keating?

Whatever. This guy needs to sit down and be quiet. Everybody knows about Obama's drug use when he was 18. So? My professor admitted she smoked weed back in the late 60's. Do I care? No. She's still a great professor. And Obama is a great candidate with great solutions.

They really are pulling out anything they can launch. Drugs, Ayers, Rev. Wright, Rezko, bitter-gate, flag-pin, white toilet paper (instead of black toilet paper), etc. I guess when you're losing....

ted d   October 9th, 2008 8:25 pm ET

I sure wish the John McCain who promised a dignified campaign focused on this issues would return. It is so sad to see a good man sell his soul in his floundering attempt to gain the White House. Each dumb personal character attack just moves more undecideds to Obama-Biden.

Doug in Renton, WA   October 9th, 2008 8:25 pm ET

What a tool! Obama has already come clean about past drug use. Is there really anything more to say?

Ethel in GA   October 9th, 2008 8:25 pm ET

Who cares? What does it matter? It's common knowledge. Look closely, Republicans, and you might even detect that Obama is not white.

Richelle   October 9th, 2008 8:24 pm ET

If Senator Obama talks about past drug use as a teenager then McCain should have to talk about womanizing, adultery and anger issues.

Carl29   October 9th, 2008 8:24 pm ET

What else could we expect from the Republicans?

CMJ   October 9th, 2008 8:24 pm ET

Republicans will only smear because they have nothing to offer the country...have you heard one good idea coming from them in the past week? No.

Will   October 9th, 2008 8:24 pm ET

Disgusting! How low can the McCain campaign possibly sink? Obama has discussed this openly and honestly. What more needs to be said?

Given McCain's ridiculously inept and negative campaign, and the current state of the nation after 28 years of conservative economic and foreign policy, it astounds me that anyone could even consider voting for this sad and bitter old man.

You have to be kidding! This is important? Not! First of all it happened years ago when he was a teenager. Even McCain admits he was a hellraiser during his teenage years. What does this even have to do with running for President. He already admitted it in his book. I wouldn't call it extreme for someone to experiment with drugs. Whether right or wrong, the majority of kids do experiment. This guy is out to lunch. The McCain campaign and his supporters are so looking for anything at all to try to discredit Obama. Ain't going to work folks. First, it's whay Ayers did when Obama was 8 yrs old and now this. Will they never stop!

Frank St.Onge   October 9th, 2008 8:24 pm ET

Wow I tried smoking dope when I was younger to. I think that's nothing compared to our republican candidate. He's on kick that puts him on a pedastle. John McCain is a natural looser and has no business running for president. The only attractive thing about his ticket is Sarah Palin in a skin tight set of leather undies. That would funnier than all heck. Better yet let's see him do it. Will Farrel could play McCain and Palin could play herself on SNL..

carol   October 9th, 2008 8:24 pm ET

Dear God.....what will they come up with next......Sen Obama has said he experimented with drugs as a younger man to a bunch of High School Students!!!
Will these relentless pieces of crap never end......if that sad old man McCain has nothing better to do than add this nonsensical rubbish....he needs to get out of the race!!!
Where is his concern for the economy and the American people.....I'll tell you where.....at the VERY BOTTOM of his list right now.....lets get Sen Obama at all costs...to hell with country!!!!
SHAMELESS.....SHAMELESS....well I am beyond words as to what I really feel for McCain and the rest of the guttersnipes in his campaign.
I just hope America have seen enough of the LESS THAN HONORABLE......COUNTRY LAST.....McCAIN......this country does need to be anymore divided and they are sure as hell trying their best to keep it that way.

Ericka   October 9th, 2008 8:24 pm ET

This is getting beyond ridiculous. Have these idiots noticed what happened with the markets today?? Are they aware that there was a loss of over 150,000 jobs last month, or that several states are poised to run out of money to fund unemployment insurance in the next few months? I could care less what people did when they were in their teens or 20's. What I do however, care about is if my world is going to fall out from under me. I am pretty sure that plenty of others share my sentiments. What is it going to take for people to realize that there are much bigger issues of importance? America WAKE UP!!!!!

Keating this is old news. He has already written the book and this has been hashed out during the primaries. You have gotta stay informed. No wonder our economy is in such turmoil. You are outta touch. And do you honestly think McCain's therapy for post traumatic stress disorder was a hope and a prayer and no drugs were involved. And what he didn't administer his wife sure did. Please. This is no time for your confessions. Now lets discuss substance. What are you going to do about my rising heating costs, gasoline, cost of living increases, etc.?

JKT   October 9th, 2008 8:23 pm ET

Keating found out about the drug use from where? Obama's book. What part of writing a book doesn't Keating understand to be "talking about it"?? Wow, the right is getting even more desperate than I thought.

Dan   October 9th, 2008 8:23 pm ET

Again, this falls into the category "Anything Barack can do, John can do better". John's exploits in the academy and as a young officer could be the stuff of legend. I don't think competing on who screwed up the most as a youth is a competition that John would want to get into, never mind that it does nothing about the economy.

Sheer panic on the part of the Grand Old Party. Why was then Governor Bush's legendary partying not an issue in 2000, or 2004? Why isn't Cindy McCain's federal drug investigation, courtesy of Nancy Reagan's DEA, an issue? Perhaps because Joe Six Pack has bigger things to worry about than what our next President did in his 20s.

There's nothing too low for the McCain Palin campaign to go. First of all, it once again points out how old McCain is because Obama admitted his mistakes and this is like something out of an 80s campaign. Second, let's hear about Sarah & Todd's drug history. Somehow I suspect they've experimented like many other people did. Third, there's lots of rumors of Bristol Palin experimenting (pre-pregnancy) and who knows about McCain and his kids. This is a loser issue for a loser campaign.

Keating Five or Frank Keating?   October 9th, 2008 8:18 pm ET

Unlike Bush, at least Obama has been honest about his past drug use.
Maybe McCain should start talking about his gambling.....

Vt Kentucky   October 9th, 2008 8:18 pm ET

We know all this already.... I read somewhere that Sarah Palin did the same thing when she was younger... Can someone confirm this?

Cam   October 9th, 2008 8:18 pm ET

DESPERATE..............I was a guy of the street? What the *%^&* is that supposed to mean? That sounds pretty racist to me.

Also, the fact that he experimented with drugs as a teen and got past it is something that should be seen as a positive. He obviously recognized that going down that path would lead him to ruin and turned himself around. Look at him now, he's on the path to become President. It's a story that many hopeless people who are down can relate to. I don't see it as a negative at all.

McCain gambles a lot.....that's an addiction too. The difference is he has continued to do it throughout his adult life and obviously doesn't have the strength of character to stop himself. Also, Cindy STOLE from a charity to get her drugs. Shouldn't she have to admit she was a criminal and a drug addict too under the Republican's logic?

emily   October 9th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

clearly, this is just another example of mccain and his merry followers grasping at whatever straws they can find in the eleventh hour of this campaign.

it's incredibly pathetic and obviously the mccain mob is scared stiff at this point. as well they should be.

Curtis McMinn   October 9th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

This is becoming pathetic. I think this squad is a disgrace.

Hopeful   October 9th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

Obama was underage, so it is irrelevant. Bill Clinton was in college but it still didn't make him lose election. I would much rather hear about Cindy McCain's very adult drug addiction!

Trent   October 9th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

This is stupid...and already has been talked about in the primary...same with wright, ayers etc. Get over it GOP. You are going to lose!

ok   October 9th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

The problem is that Media just like CNN for reporting this nonsense. The McCain is using this smear (1) to divert the attention from the economy crisis, (2) to have free media talking point. If all media ignore them, they will stop. Shame on you CNN and all media.

Walt   October 9th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

Does this rule apply only to Obama? Governor, I dont' recall you demanding such explanations from the former coke head and alcoholic who is currently running the country into the ground. Then again, maybe that is why you a requesting it now...

Now using drugs is a "left" thing, that is too funny. Another old dude moving his lips and ain't saying a dang thing.

McShame..Barbie Palin...nobama...average joe...a helping hand here please...

Joe in Mo   October 9th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

Well here you have it, the final card has been played by the Republicans. Obama has written about this. He admits, like many other young men in the 70's and 80's, that he did drugs when he was young and it was foolish and irresponsible.

Obama's drug use 20+ years ago does not affect my paycheck, the economic crisis facing us or the looming Social Security crisis. Can we get back to the issues?

ag   October 9th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

Wow, I think he already spoke about it during the primaries. But what this does show is that the McCain camp is looking for anything negative, anything at all, that they can throw at Obama and hope it sticks.

That, my friends, is call the ultimate act of desperation. If you can't campaign on a high note, then by all means, drag the other guy down with you.

How pathetic.

Abby   October 9th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

Obama needs to be checked out – before it's too late!
Wright, Rezko, Raines, Ayres – ACORN – now drugs – is this guy really someone we want to lead our country????
All these corrupt type "friends" – this is scary – we need to know the
TRUTH!

May God Bless America

MEP   October 9th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

Is this the best they've got? This is very sad to watch.

georgia   October 9th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

McCain's campaign is really showing it's desperation rather than a platform to move the country forward, not a good thing for one seeking the presidency.

ChangeIsGood   October 9th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

These kinds of attacks are exactly why I will not vote for McCain. Every day McCain's campaign gets uglier and more desperate while the American people watch their future grow dimmer and dimmer. We're tired of empty slogans, the politics of division, and lies from Bush/McCain. McCain never proposes any fresh solutions for the future of America. He should retire quietly in Sedona and start writing his memoirs.

Rob, AK   October 9th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

So, I guess this is the latest attack on Barack's character...

Justin   October 9th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

I know you want a horse race CNN, but to stoop to this horse doo doo is a bit much. Between the Ayers stuff and this, I wonder when the McCain check cleared.

Matthew   October 9th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

Yeah... so? It's not like this is new information. The guy read Obama's book and noticed that no one has brought it up in the past month. This is sooooo sleezy! Talk about the issues GOP!

No McPain   October 9th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

OMG! They just keep getting more and more desperate. It's laughable. You just know they're going to start in on the racial insinuations soon. What a bunch of sickos.

BT   October 9th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

Millions of Americans have tried pot – so what? Add that to the millions of alcoholics in this country (oh, don't forget Palin's pals the Joe 6-packs) and the millions hooked on prescriptions drugs and let's face it – most of America has some kind of problem.

mitch   October 9th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

Willy Brown   October 9th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

Obama a doper? How shocking-NOT!

Kelly Smith   October 9th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

Whatever. He was a teenager. Your children have probably done worse. It was decades ago. Should they now be shut off from public service? Are you telling me that neither you nor any of our politicians have done nothing 'suspect' when it comes to drugs?? The finger pointing should stop. I'm tired of this.

Sick to my stomach   October 9th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

Did it matter to any voters that Bush had a MAJOR cocaine problem...? Or had 2 starter businesses go bankrupt before his dad pushed him in to politics...? Obviously no one was digging so deep in that election, or people just chose to vote blind.
Obviously the McCain party is trying to use EVERY desperate move they can think of. The MAJOR difference is that Obama is putting his past out there for everyone to know, and is talking about it as an example of learning from mistakes...while "others" fib and fabricate their true past. Says a lot about some people...

M.H.   October 9th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

Give me a break! Stop harping on these petty things from Obama's childhood. We've all done some dumb stuff as kids, but turned out as fairly reputable citizens ... didn't we? If you want to get snippy, slam Miss Beer Heiress for her addiction to pain killers (and doing community service for getting them) as an ADULT. She should have known better as a so-called grown up. What a wonderful image for a first lady.

JohnLee   October 9th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

Maybe these republicans that support McCain need to learn how to read and read about it in Obama's book! Obviously they aren't smart enough to read if they are making these wild accusations. Come on McCain – we have serious problems in our country. We don't need petty politics. Where did your straight talk express go?

James   October 9th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

Oh hahahahaha...McAin't's "surrogate" is giving Barack Obama advice on what to talk about to voters? Am I going crazy here???

Curtis - Marietta, GA   October 9th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

Wow, they're really digging deep for something aren't they.

So let me get this straight, they are saying "Hey, everybody, pay attention to something that you've already known about for a long time! Now you shouldn't be okay with it anymore because we're losing".

So what's next, McCain is going to ask Obama to quit campaigning and leave the presidency up to a rock, paper, scissors match? Wow, so desperate. Especially on a day when the dow lost 600 points. Yeah McCain, that's what I care about, past drug use.

clucas   October 9th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

who cares what he did as a child? im concerned about what he will do for the economy, healthcare, iraq, taxes.....and what mccain won't do.

Carol Brucker, Fishers, IN   October 9th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

Seriously.............We are SMARTER than to believe that if Barack Obama believed his"prior drug use" was an issue to be reckoned with he would not have written about it in HIS own book. I even more than before admire the man for "owning up". Who was it said "Jesus loves a sinner"? Hate the sin, but love the sinner. I LOVE BARACK OBAMA. As a long time voter, I can attest; all of this sillyness is ridiculous, Please John McCain, throw in the towel while you still have a shred of decency left.

Wow!!, They truly are desperate!!!

Jeannie Baltimore, MD   October 9th, 2008 8:14 pm ET

And so the desperate measures continue. We have Cindy McCain go on stage and give her poorly rehearsed performance. Now we have for Governor Keating trying to bring up issues that have already been revealed. You people are so desperate. It's going to happen, no matter what dasterdly deeds you try to come up with. Barack Hussein Obama is going to be the first African American President of the United States.

Char59   October 9th, 2008 8:14 pm ET

Well now, Senator Obama already revealed that story, so what is the big deal. He was teenager then. Next thing you know, you will say he wet the bed at age 5. Are you going to tell the story about Cindy McCain and her drug use and how she stole them from her own charity? She got a slap on the wrist, the rest of us would have went to jail. Are you going to tell about Senator McCain's infidelity? You are just going to far and are totally trying to destroy Senator Obama. Why don't just dig up everyone's past, after all George W. was abusing alcohol and he is still the President!

Michael   October 9th, 2008 8:14 pm ET

This is really ridiculous..... Conservatives are just going to let any comment that digrades Obama's character slip through and destroy any Honor left in this campaign... The Republicans really are stuck in the past........ Very sad..... I and all Americans should pity them......

D in Austell   October 9th, 2008 8:14 pm ET

Are they serious? This is getting way beyond the pale...

How can a campaign where its top gun treated his 1st wife so poorly start down this kind of road of personal attacks? I truly don't understand.

It's not as if Obama has ever made this a secret, but the manner in which it's brought up now... I am disgusted.

Obama/Biden '08

B   October 9th, 2008 8:14 pm ET

why does admitted drug use while a teen automatically make Obama "a guy of the street". If that's not a racist statement, I don't know what is.

Nedi   October 9th, 2008 8:14 pm ET

Past drug use by George W. Bush has been off limits. Why bring it up in regards to Barack Obama? Is there a double standard? Barack Obama has been candid about his past. There is no reason to discuss it further and be distracted from the real issues, like the economy and national security.

Judi, San Antonio   October 9th, 2008 8:14 pm ET

"Speak with Good Purpose"
I am a teacher and a counselor. I am saddened by the irresponsible language currently produced by Palin and the McCain campaign. We teachers spend our long hours and years trying to instill character and encouraging students to speak with good purpose. I do not believe that McCain-Palin quite understand the seriousness of the problems within our country right now .

JD in NC   October 9th, 2008 8:14 pm ET

Drugs are but one more thing that Barama does not recall or refuses to discuss. How he paid for college, his friendships, support of the Freddie's, etc.?

Eric   October 9th, 2008 8:14 pm ET

How many idiots live in this country? Obama was honest and outspoken about his youth, his struggle with identity and his mistakes. So clearly, because the repthugs can not come with a campaign that has a glimpse of a plan, they are asking Obama to basically try to scare the voters away by reminding them eveyday he did snort cocaine when he was young. Can someone explain how this dummy's views are of public interest. Oh yeah, he's McCain co-chairman. Great.

Bushwhacked in Eugene, OR   October 9th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

So Barack was a kid and then he grew up. So? He hasn't tried to hide it - even put it in a book. What more do you want to know? Grow up.

I love how the conservatives conveniently forget about George Bush's past drug and alcohol abuse issues. Oh - excuse me - it's ok if a conservative does it, just not if a democrat does it? Hypocrits.

Tia   October 9th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

Ok, this is low. I am a conservative teenager and I can say this very seriously. Obama has already said that he regrets his choices and did them impulsively. He can't change his past, nor should he. He did drugs, and that was dumb. But to bring it up after 30 years is even worse. Mccain is really pushing his luck if he thinks that his friends can get away with this kind of moronic smears. It's like saying, "Senator McCain is a bad choice for President because he left his wife all those years ago...." Stop looking to the past. Let's try and fix the FUTURE!

Nancy   October 9th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

The more we know about Obama, the more worries me. Who is this guy, surrounded by drugs, former terroist firend, radical group like Acorn. And his middble name. Of course name is not that important, but if you don't feel you are part of a religion, I am sure that you could change it, it is not that hard to change a middble name? Or even drop it. If Mr. Hussein becomes my president, I am sure it will bother me a lot.

Marvin   October 9th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

It seems to me that the Sheriff of Cook County is right. The Banks being interested in getting their money (supposedly) should collect the rent these people are paying the homeowners, and then deal with the homeowner on a legal basis. Can not a lease to own plan be setup for these honest people who pay rent on a expected basis? An empty property does nothing for the citizens, community or the financial institution.

Sam   October 9th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

Are they prepared to talk about John McCain's use of alcohol, are they prepared to talk about anything that John McCain ever did that some people might regard as reckless..his affairs, etc.
The fact of the matter is that Sen. Obama does not now engage in reckless behavior...yeah sure, talk about it, but in order to bring his past into this campaign we must have an open book for Sen. McCain as well.

Actually, he has spoken candidly about it with the American people. It's called a book; Sarah Palin might not read them, but I'm sure someone in the McCain camp could. In all seriousness, the kitchen sink attacks by the McCain campaign have gotten pathetic. Are they even capable of giving a reason to vote FOr their candidate rather than against Obama?

LOL. Obama has talked about it - on the trail... in books... He used drugs in the 70s?! Umm, hello! Lots of people used drugs in the 70s! He's talked about it as a period of life where he made a lot of mistakes. And all that is in the past anyway. John McCain has mistakes in his past too. Okay. So who are these guys NOW, and what will they do for this country as President?

Wes   October 9th, 2008 8:10 pm ET

What a non issue. Are the Palins going to talk about their drug use? They admitted to using drugs before their first child was born. What about Cindy McCain? Is she going to talk about her drug use? I almost bet you too John McCain has had morphine one or twice along the way. What about his drinking?

The stock market drops another 7% in value, and THIS is all the McCain surrogates have to talk about?

They really do have contempt for the American people don't they.

Th3rdpwr   October 9th, 2008 8:10 pm ET

Didn't Sarah Palin make a point of castigating Joe Biden for bringing up the past; that the McCain campaign was focussing on the future? So far, all we've heard from them concerns the 60's and 70's.

Allen in Hartwell, GA   October 9th, 2008 8:10 pm ET

Why isn't anyone talking about the mob atmosphere at McCain/Palin campaign rallys? After being incited by McCain and Palin, the mobs surrounding them appear ready to get a rope and lynch Obama!

This has to be the nastiest, most unAmerican campaign I've ever seen. Aren't there laws against inciting riots? These two and their supporters are threatening to destroy this country, and the media seems happy to urge them on.

Obama HAS spoken candidly about his drug use as a kid, it is a very well established fact. The Republicans have no moral ground on this since they were all too willing to overlook far worse behavior in George Bush. Now they are just being hypocrites.

It's so clear why this, Ayers, Wright, etc. are all becoming issues now. When the campaign began I'm fairly sure John mCCain wanted to run the game clean, about the issues, all the stuff he complained about in 2000 when he lust to Bush Jr.

But now that he's losing, and losing big with no way to turn this around in sight, McCain has chosen to sell his ideals to the lowest bidder with the hope that sleaze politics just might resurrect his dead campaign.

To fall so far....

Patricia   October 9th, 2008 8:08 pm ET

Senator Obama has been very forthright in his acknowledgement of his drug use in his past. What a silly comment for Mr. Keating to make. He obviously hasn't watched any of the "life of the candidate" programs.

Shall we bring up McCains "past sins" also? What a royal waste of time and energy from a very desperate Republican party.

georgia   October 9th, 2008 8:08 pm ET

Obama has always been candid about this & frankly,I know there are many of my generation (60 yr. old) & after who experimented or sporadically used alc.,marijuana or cocain but when we moved past our teens ,we got on with the business of careers & family life as law abiding productive citizens. Is this a relative of the Keating who McCain solicited bailout for in the late '89's ??
While we're talking about being forthright ,can we hear about the maverick's propensity for crashing planes even before Vietnam & lying to cover up some of them ?

Jill   October 9th, 2008 8:08 pm ET

And this matters to me how?

djw   October 9th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

desparate campaign.

Janine   October 9th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

Actually this is a point that I actually like about Obama. Not that he did drugs but that he is transparent. I'm confident that many of our elected officials and past presidents have. They are just good at lying and covering up there indiscretions. John McCain has done things in his past that he's not proud of and he's not man enough to own up to any of them.

Disgusted By McCain and Palin   October 9th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

SHAME ON THE MCCAIN CAMPAIGN!

You guys are simply disgusting. With our economy in shambles, people's retirement accounts imploding, and workers being laid off, this is what you are focused on?

Get a clue! We are not stupid. Talk about the issues we care about. I am more certain than ever that Barack Obama will provide our country with the leadership that we desperately need. He actually talks about the issues we care about!

Eric   October 9th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

STICK TO THE ISSUES! No one cares, and furthermore, Obama has said plenty about it. McCain has alcohol, adultery, and "poor judgment" with taxpayers money in his past. Everyone makes mistakes and moves on.

Meanwhile, our economy is tanking and our "leaders" are giving more of your money away to irresponsible business. On top of that, McCain now wants you to bail out irresponsible people who are living far beyond their means.

Someone please bring back the conservatives! Kick this current group of liberty hating, big spend, faux conservatives out on their wrinkly old bums and get us real conservatives back in office.

CO   October 9th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

Gov, why not bring up Sarah Palin's admitted drug use, too, while you're resurrecting these irrelevant things of the past.

Must McCain's surrogates rely on smears to push him over the top?

deidre   October 9th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

That is right if you disagree or raise questions about Obama you are a racist and are deamed erractic.

Is Obama erractic because he changed his mind about his offshore drilling? How about his plans for Iraq? How about his opinion of the surge- boy that changed really quickly didn't it? What about his plans for withdrawl- remember what he said in the primary? He would have troops out with 60 days.

Please define erractic Sen. Obama.

AIB   October 9th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

Give a break. Tired of your stupid and pointless suggestions. McCain and his will have to come forward of their drug use.

Pier Giacalone   October 9th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

Yes, let's make an issue of Obama's light drug use as a teenager even tho he never developed an addiction and was able to put it behind him on his own when he grew into adulthood. Then let's talk about Bush's alcohol addiction that went into his 40's and Cindy McCain and Rush Limbaugh......etc etc etc. Frankly the Democrats can't begin to compete with Republicans when it comes to substance abuse whether it's on the "street" or the CEO office.

It's so pathetic, almost as pathetic as Dennis Miller wetting his pants on 9/11 and disavowing his politics because he came to the realization that he's a scared little girl.

Slacko   October 9th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

Haha, the Republicans really have no where to turn but to things that Obama has already admitted to doing in the past? This is pathetic. Republicans don't know how to govern anymore, and their slimeball tactics are being rejected by the American people thoroughly.

rachel   October 9th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

nice try. no one cares. there is way too much going on right now for scare tactics and digging up dirt to matter one bit. People are losing their homes, savings and hope. We need change. Obama/Biden 2008

Okay, here we go. Look at what Barak Obama had done with his life. He had a rough start and he overcame enormous odds. Good for Obama. Obama is a inspiration much like John McCain is an inspiration for POW status.

LET MCSHAME TALK ABOUT KEATING 5....AND WIFE SHOULD TALK ABOUT HER DRUG ADDICTION...AMERICAN'S YOU'VE ALL DONE DRUGS IN YOUR TEENS....SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Catrina R.   October 9th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

This is just another example exposing the McCain campaign's desperation. Obama was in high school at the time- give me a break. I couldn't care less that he smoked marijuana and drank 30+ years ago. Let's focus on the issues at hand please!!! Not teenage character mistakes.

LDV   October 9th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

Is Obama a smoker, then the White House is off-limit?? He should have looked straight into the eyes of the American people and tell us his "job-resume," experiences, records, achievements and qualififaction as commander-in-chief in a dangerous world, after 9/11 of 2001, instead of hiding behind a seasoned senator named Joe Biden. Wonder how seasoned leaders such as Vladimir Putin of Russia, and others from China and North Korea, see Obama as a world leader? So much for American pride, and might, in the history of the world.

Susana   October 9th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

The fact Obama has been so open about his past drug use is the main reason he so much credibility. Matter of fact, when asked if he ever inhaled marijuana, he candidly said something to the effect "Duh, isn't that the point?"

Alcohol is also a drug and I guarantee there are many politicians on this drug. I wonder if Keating has ever used drugs, alcohol, or peeped at a dirty magazine. These politicians are so darn perfect!

Desperation brings out the worse in people. They are bent on ruining Obamas character. America won't listen to hypocrisy.

Del   October 9th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

Thanks for the clean campaign Sentator McCain.

Derell   October 9th, 2008 8:05 pm ET

And this is relevant why? He has already shared this information with the world in his book prior to running for President. He need not clarify it anymore. And just in case you've forgotten, our current President had a strong taste for cocaine and booze, and he had the means to get much more readily than Obama. Cindy McCain had "surrogates" liberate prescription drugs for her from her own charity to get her fix and ruined lives to cover it up. And John McCain is addicted to the drug with no smell, gambling. You see the problem that the GOP faces is that Obama has nothing to hide. It's all out there already and has been for the last 20 plus months. This swift boat won't float!

Obama/Biden 2008!

You have the Republicans out there saying any hateful, dreadful lie they can think of trying to scare people. You have Michelle and Barack Obama saying that these attacks don't bother them. That they are more concerned about the trouble America is in. Trying to give people hope for a better country and world. WHO DO YOU WANT TO LEAD THIS COUNTRY?

Michael   October 9th, 2008 8:05 pm ET

The real reasons to elect someone president. What they are going to do to address the issues that are most important to you – For me the top three are the Economy, the Wars and Education.

In one of the other pieces I read how a person thinks the markets are dropping because Obama is winning. My question to that person is are you living in the same country we are????

On my site obama.jjamm.com I have an article that was provided before the markets took this last dive that talked about how the DOW has returned 15%, the NASDAQ -18% and the S&P 6% not this year but the entire two terms of President Bush. If you diversify across the three that nets out to a 3% gain in almost 8 years. You would have done better earning 1-2% in a bank despite financial analysts trying to sell you 10% returns in the market.

And, by the way it is well known why the last drops have occured and it has very little to do with who will be President. Last I checked no one named Lehman, AIG, Washington (Mutual that is), Wachovia, Merryl or Lynch etc were running for President!

Brian from NYC   October 9th, 2008 8:05 pm ET

Low Low how low can we go? Which will go lower the Dow Jones or John McCain's campaign?

Michelle D. - Atlanta, GA   October 9th, 2008 8:05 pm ET

And are we forgetting that "W" was a cokehead and an alcoholic?

We've all made mistakes in the past and that has absolutely no bearing on what is important now.

It's typical of the desparate Republicans to try and distract from the important issues that face us now.

Cheap shot, but it's not gonna work.

Change   October 9th, 2008 8:05 pm ET

Marg.   October 9th, 2008 8:04 pm ET

I just read this article what a waste of time. Of course, Governor Frank Keating would bring up Obama's past drug use. If he would have taken a little time and researched Obama's book. Obama himself discssed this matter. Of course again, the McCain campaign is drawing at straws to come up with anything to smear Obama. John McCain and Palin at their rallys have been trying to smear Obama's character and policies. They are asking "Who is Obama?" I think that they lost the voters on that one. Obama has been vetted over the past 3-4 years. I think that the voters know him very well. As far as the Ayers relationship that has been researched and look at over and over again. Obama himself stated that he did not have a "palling" around realtionship with Ayers. I think that Palin needs to come up with a better line. Maybe it is about time that CNN and the other media take the time and research and look into John McCain's legislation and policies and "who is Palin?" It is kind of scary to think that John McCain, who doesn't seem to know what his policies are and the truth is. Also, to have a vice-president Palin that seems as radical and non informed about our governement and John McCain's policies. The press and CNN are afraid to interview her to find out what the real Palin is about, because you are afraid of the "sexism" charge. By the way there has been no "sexism" done to Palin. Again, "Who is John McCain and Governor Palin?

John W. Tinder   October 9th, 2008 8:04 pm ET

Senator Obama should speak "candidly" about?! I thought he did in his book. Either way, how come Obama does but Bush did not? Bush used Cocaine AND had a DWI arrest, all while he was an ADULT. Getting a little tired of the double standard. IT was important to know that Clinton "inhaled." IT was NOT important to know about Bush's snorting past-time, or the extent of it. And NOW it is important to know about Obama's past drug use. I guess the rule only applies to Democrats or NON – born again Christians?

Kate in NC   October 9th, 2008 8:03 pm ET

McCain is so desperate that he is throwing everything he can find at Obama. BS Keating didn't get this cleared through the "McCain campaign". It was no. 50 on their list of negative talking points. Funny thing though, Obama hasn't even begun to list McCain's numerous shading dealings and liaisons – some with the same folks he is calling terrorists. Wait until McCain's truths have floated up from the muck. This is a re-hash of stuff gone by!

BM   October 9th, 2008 8:03 pm ET

McCain may not be responsible for his actions. He behaves like people I"ve know who suffer from alzheimers.

Tiffany   October 9th, 2008 8:03 pm ET

How pathetic is this? When the market is down 678 points today alone, who cares about this. Hey McCain, Palin & your supporter.... tell us your plan to help the economy. That is what I want to discuss not some past drug usage as a teenager. Which when you think about, there are a lot of people who have experienced drug usages in their teens.

Linda from Florida   October 9th, 2008 8:03 pm ET

This is a nonissue, as Frank Keating well knows. But as long as he's on the subject, perhaps he should ask Cindy McCain to be "more forthright about her background and former drug addiction," hmmm?

If there's a question of moral character it should go to the McCain camp and their dirty campaign. Why talk to the American public about what solutions you have to our financial crisis, heathcare, eduction etc. when instead, as the McCain campaign is doing big time, fuel the flames of gossip, innuendo, and racism .... Frankly, I see the story of a teenager who could have easily turned down a permanent wrong path and instead makes higher choices and eventually becomes a candidate for President of the United States as a story of integrity, triumph, and the American dream.

Well, well..how selective this McCain surrogate appears to be. Why not disclose everything...let's start with McCain and the Keating 5, come on let's hear the truth. Next, why doesn't America's #1 Hockey mom come clean and testify in "Troopergate". Answer some questions Palin, after all the American people want to know the truth. Between McCain's "Bomb Bomb" comments and Palin's Bridge to no where and I did nothing wrong, but I won't testify approach in Troopergate, not to mention her husbands DUI...I think that there are a lot of issues that need addressing on the Republican side before they open up someone else's closet. Oops, maybe McCain doesn't want to remember how many homes he owns because there are a lot of closets there.

Rick   October 9th, 2008 7:59 pm ET

Obama has written and talked about it already and been more forthright than McCain has about the circumstances of his divorce and filed of a marriage license with Cindy in AZ before his divorce was even final.

McCain, through surrogates or otherwise, really doesn't want to have a character debate with a man who is still married to his 1st wife, owns 1 house, is worth less than 1million dollars, has not been censured or investigated by the Senate ethics committee and has not hired people to work in his campaign who previously referred to either of his daughters as illegitimate (Steve Schmidt and others worked for Karl Rove when Rove started the phone campaign in SC 2000 primary saying that McCain has an "illegitimate african american baby out of wedlock") If McCain would sell out his own daughter by hiring the people who smeared her and his family's name like that, he has no business trying to debate character with Obama or Biden because they are way out of his definitely minor league

Jean, Indiana   October 9th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

Can't believe this issue is being raised by a surrogate named KEATING! Obama already discussed his early drug use in "Dreams from My Father" (1995, 2004). Now, let's hear McCain acknowledge that his wife not only abused drugs but STOLE THEM FROM HER CHARITY!

I would say a very large majority has and does it effect the way they do their life or work no it doesn't. Blue State Jeff   October 9th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

Meh, this is old news. Obama has been candid about this– more so than don't-remember-the-70s Bush, for sure!

Maddie, Hartford, Ct.   October 9th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

This is just unbelievable! Is the McCain campaign begging to have Cindy's past problems dragged into the limelight? I would have never voted for McCain, but at least I THOUGHT he was a man of integrety. Boy, was I wrong!!!!

Guy From LA   October 9th, 2008 7:58 pm ET

HE ALREADY DID, Mr Keating. And Dennis Miller, you still have a job???

Jen   October 9th, 2008 7:57 pm ET

No surprise there! Thank God the Repukes have such a bad candidate. I swear the Rebublicans will try anything to win.

Diane, NY   October 9th, 2008 7:57 pm ET

I don't understand why CNN won't publish comments by a military wife and soon to be ex-Republican but I will try again.

This is the kind of stuff that has made me turn my back on the Republican party after 20 years. This is not the party of family values any more. It's the party of low ball tatics. There is not one shred of Christian values left in the Republican campaign.

Between the now hate rallies and truly IGNORING every issue in favor of negative campaigning is the last straw for me.

But this is to be expected I guess of the party that treats life as sacred while it is a fetus. Once he or she is born, the holier than thou party doesn't care one once about what happens to the individual. Disgusting!!!

Iowa voter   October 9th, 2008 7:57 pm ET

Seems like a non-issue since he's already addressed it in his books and in public, but what else to they have? I guess that's what desperation looks like.

gladys   October 9th, 2008 7:57 pm ET

Soon enough all of the straws that McCain's crew are trying to grasp will be gone.....................and Obama's crew will WIN!

josh   October 9th, 2008 7:57 pm ET

What is going on here with the neo-cons,fox news has linked Obama to another terriost from the PLO,now they are trying to call him a drug addict, this is getting out of hand, the media needs to call the Mccain camp out on this before it gets to out of control~~~

drew   October 9th, 2008 7:57 pm ET

A. Far left liberal doesn't make you a junkie. That'd be like saying being a far right republican makes you a blood sucking leech.
B. Atleast he admits his mistakes, GWB should apologize to the world for his actions or ignorance that have caused global instability in financial sector.

Eric   October 9th, 2008 7:57 pm ET

More the reason to vote for him. Maybe he'll end this stupid war on (some) drugs. I thought everyone who did drugs never made it anywhere in life? I guess that false propaganda was wrong.

Nelson   October 9th, 2008 7:57 pm ET

Wow, the Repugs are really afraid. I thought we were over this MONTHS ago.

Chuck   October 9th, 2008 7:57 pm ET

Sounds like a normal youth to me! It's alot like my life during that age. I'm glad he's never denied it!

Mike G   October 9th, 2008 7:57 pm ET

I know this is a different "Keating". But maybe a bad choice for a surrogate, eh McCain? Every time this guy goes to bat for McCain it just reminds us of McCain's involvement in the Keating 5 incident.

Oh, and good luck distracting us from the economy using facts that have been well known for YEARS!

Kristina, Seattle   October 9th, 2008 7:56 pm ET

Obama has actually already COMPLETELY covered this. The reason we know about it, is because he's been up front.

Keep fishing, Repugs... there's simply nothing else to find.

Jennifer   October 9th, 2008 7:56 pm ET

That so stupid. I think writing a book that anyone can get their hands on and find out about you for themselves is as candid about the issue as it can be.

Mike   October 9th, 2008 7:56 pm ET

It's getting dirty out there....but the truth would prevail. Seems to me like these republicans do not have the a rententive memory.....They are trying to use the kitchen sink, I guess they need a piece from Hillary Clinton.

Obama Is UNSTOPPABLE....Change is coming

SO WHAT-- PEOPLE EXP THINGS IN THEIR YOUNGER DAYS!!!

Jon   October 9th, 2008 7:56 pm ET

He did for the last 2 years. I guess when you get old you tend to forget. Remember the NY Times when the REpubs. questioned his use of drugs. They said a year ago the he lied in his book and did not use the amount of drugs stated that he did not use drugs and that he lied in his book. So which is it he did use drugs as a youth or he did not use drugs as a youth. My head is starting to spin everytime a repub talks.

Donna   October 9th, 2008 7:56 pm ET

McCain should try to distance himself from anyone named KEATING...this is another non-issue...is McCain going to discuss his "wild days" too? I'm sure that he is not clean by any means of the imagination...

Edward   October 9th, 2008 7:55 pm ET

When will the horrible facts about Obama's character stop coming out? Why are people voting at all for him? What type of president do they think this man will make? Didn't we learn to be more careful after slick Willy? Wake up America!

RLS   October 9th, 2008 7:55 pm ET

Jon   October 9th, 2008 7:55 pm ET

Sorry John, he has been candid. He admitted his past history years ago.

Wow, McCain's camp sure is desperate!

This is pretty much a waste of good bandwidth.

California Gold   October 9th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

Senator McCain should openly and candidly discuss with American voters his conduct as a prisoner in Vietnam; providing information about military flight paths which resulted in US planes being shot down by the Communist N. Vietnamese. I would also like to know about his problem with anger management, specifically what he has done with therapy and medication.

texas   October 9th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

This must be a BARACK HUSSAIN OBAMA ticker nothing bad being posted here, or anywere that I see on any of the tickers. Socialism its already started.

Anonymous   October 9th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

From Canada I send this message – Barrack Obama's past drug use should be considered like everyone else of his generation – part of growing up. He is not connected to any drug rings, nor is he a current user, and he has nothing to apologize for. How many people were using in the ir youth? How many are now sporting suits and executive jobs?

I sincerely hope that the American voters put Obama in the White House. He is honest and well educated and deserves a chance to make some changes. He strikes me as someone who views conflict as an opportunity to communicate. He does not go on and on about 'winning wars'. It's not about winners and losers – it's about peace and negotiation. Go Obama, go!! We're rooting for you!!

CJ 24   October 9th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

Elizabeth Hucklehoff is on a mission to single handedly help McCain win. You should have seen her little pouty face today, determined to "expose" Barack. She got her head chopped and served on a platter because Sherrie, Joy and Whoopi were ready for her.

Sorry Elizabeth, all those dreams of returning back to the White House dinners are slowly evaporating. I hope they keep you out of there for 8 long years because you are a pill.

chris24   October 9th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

Another reach for anything to help distract people from the situation we are in NOW!

What happened years ago has no bearing on today. Most kids tried drugs in high school or college. Big deal!

The republican creeps keep getting creepier. Rush Limpbaugh is a drug addict and divorced three times, does the far right give a crap about that? No, they keep listening.

Sarah Palin's foreign policy advisor was a lobbyist who sold the Iraq war to the American public (or tried) I think that is more relevant than anyone's drug experiment when they were a kid.

Jeez.... Give it a rest....

Diamond from Florida   October 9th, 2008 7:54 pm ET

Wow! The DESPERATION is really blatant and quite PATHETIC from the "right." Why don't we talk about Palin's Troopergate scandal or McCain's Keating 5 involvement. The GOP is really scraping the bottom of the barrel....and just when I thought they couldn't be any more despicable.

Ruby Jones   October 9th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

I find it sad that McCain and his friends are questioning Sen. Obama's past when the questions that have been asked and answered.

Does Palin want people to confront her on her past? How about rich Cindy? Sen. McCain how will history remember you? This is not the behavior of a leader or a man in control of his campaign or house.

Get it together, what are your plans to get us out of this economic mess?

Sgt C USMC   October 9th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

But Republicans should wait to be supoened first and then hide behind lawyers and 'executive priviledge." Thanks for clearing that up Keating.

Stay strong Senator Obama. Victory is near and I believe you will prevail. God bless you and keep you safe.

Smeryl62   October 9th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

Now let me get this straight. Obama should tell us again like he did when he wrote the book in 95, and like he has said before before he declared and even after that he did what ....1 line as opposed to 5 of cocaine. Or maybe that he nerver rolled his own joint but used a bong or something. Why does this matter? We don't care. The only thing I want to here from Obama is how he's going to protect my 401K, because at 46 I hadn't planned on starting all over again. IT'S THE ECONOMY STUPID!!!! All the other tricks won't work this time.

Jorge -- SF_CA   October 9th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

That strategy didn't work against Bill Clinton, and it's not going to work now.

Suzanne Madison   October 9th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

At least Obama admits his past mistakes. We love Obama and excited about the postive impact that he's brought to this process. Obama and his team has ignited and inspired many people of all backgrounds to get involved in the election. This country is in need of real change and we believe that Obama is capable of making it happen. We like some of McCain's positions, however after 8 years of the Bush Administration, we think that America needs to try something different and that change is Obama. It appears to the American people that McCain's team is so desparate and trying to hard to distract the media away from the issues. The issues are more important than what Obama did when he was a teenager.
America is smarter than you all give us credit.
Suzanne

Brian Wilson   October 9th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

Well, CNN, thanks for one measly article bringing up anything bad about Obama, but you're just covering up far worse. Where's the story about Obama suing Citibank to force them to give bad loans? You'd think with the economy in shambles that might be important!

Tired of McCain/Palin Negativity   October 9th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

Why are CNN posting my comments? I'm tired of the McCain people being able to say anything they like and spread lies about Barack.

Bianca   October 9th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

Give me a break! So what he used drugs when he was younger. How many young kids do the same thing. What the fail to mention is how he grew up changed his fate by taking command of his life and applying himself in school. I have all boys and I know I have raised them right but I also know that they will do some stupid things along the way. If I raised them right they will get back on track and remember what I taught them. The only difference between Obama and McCain is that he tells the truth about what he did instead of acting as if he is not someone who made them. If McCain could admit his mistakes by being truthful the polls might change

Pay in Attention, USA   October 9th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating???

Shouldn't the McCain camp issue a GAG order against anyone who has a name that calls to mind McCain's past indiscretions???

Truly hilarious!

KEATING 5 ---- Hello?

Jack Six Pack   October 9th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

Wow, and this coming from "BumbleFrank" the level headed man who thinks he is above the Supreme Court. "BumbleFrank" also has quite a shady background with almost $250,000 in "gifts" from Jack Dreyfus, founder of Dreyfus Mutual Funds over the course of the past 10 years.

"BumbleFrank" also believes that creationism should be taught in schools and when told that the Supreme Court already ruled against that he indicated that he would "dissent".

Now we are to believe that this man has any credibility on the national stage when his own party ignored him for a post in Bush's administration, that's a great resume!

nyc   October 9th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

Again the Republicans are proving they have no PLATFORM or plan to stand on so they resort to mudslinging. How original. They need to go away already.

Steve - Minneapolis   October 9th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

He has admitted it. On to the issues. Case closed. Could we maybe run against the independent candidate for a while and avoid this stupid trash.

Donald   October 9th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

I this the best you lames can do! Seems like you idiots are related to Rip Van Winkle, finally waking up from a long lost snooze. You people have gone beyond desperation to try and turn around the failed McCain-Palin junket. The people stopped listening to Dumbya long ago so what makes you think that we're going to listen to slime balls like you!! Dennis Miller and all you other monkeys, go back to the tiolet zoo from whence you came!!

OBAMA/ BIDEN '08

Nicole in Ga   October 9th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

For the love of God, what is wrong with these people ? Resorting to attacks way back even further to Obama's teenage years ? They are not bringing up anything new. It really shows the desperation here. This is unbelievable. People wake up !! He already came out and admitted he made a mistake. It's like they want him up on a cross, it's horrible. Will McCain please just go ahead and concede please.

Obama made a book about this so it's not something he is hiding. It just goes to show and give hope to people who have issues and may be down and out that they can overcome and become a great leader and give inspiration to others.

Raymond K. Hessel   October 9th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

We already know about this. No new information here. The Repugs just don't get it. They just don't get it. The Dow loses another 7% and they can't figure it out. It's akin to a group of people who are all trapped in a burning house and a couple of idiots are trying to get the rest of the group upset about the wallpaper design or the diagonal tile flooring.

Peter   October 9th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

Obama "ought to admit" his teenage drug use? Um, when was he hiding it? It's in his book. Talk about grasping at straws. I await Gov. Keating's to publicly call on Cindy McCain to admit to her past drug use. Absurd and desperate..

john maclin,kentucky   October 9th, 2008 7:51 pm ET

I hate to say it but this republican is just not gonna vote this year.First he picks a VP that in my opinion would be scary if she become president. If McCain was the straight talk express, than why is everything his campaign dose is so negative.I guess you can be to old for some things and its obvious to me he has lost his mind.

catmom   October 9th, 2008 7:51 pm ET

Perhaps McCain, Palin and members of his campaign should read his book. Maybe they will find the answers you are looking for. If it didn't matter with George Bush why should it matter with Obama? How about McCain focusing on how to clean up the mess that Bush and the Republican party has left this country in. How about McCain tell us in DETAIL what he plans to do to help everyday people get through this financial mess we are in. How about McCain tell us what his plans are for Iraq and Afghanistan and the fact these wars are bankrupting our country.

TheTruthHurts   October 9th, 2008 7:51 pm ET

Backfiring. The only people who care about this common knowledge are people who aren't voting for him anyway. Does anyone believe McCain, the partying pilot, hasn't been a pothead.

Nobody cares.

Expat in Canada   October 9th, 2008 7:51 pm ET

Funny, the same people who take issues with Obama's past seem to be the same people that didn't have a problem with W's coke and alcohol filled past. And didn't McCain's wife take a lot of pills back in the day?

Alan Boyer   October 9th, 2008 7:51 pm ET

el   October 9th, 2008 7:51 pm ET

If this is the same Keating who was involved in the S&L scandal of the 80's and went to jail for it, I think his being a co-chair of McCain's campaign proves a much greater link between them then McCain has let on.
Why would anyone have a convicted felon who almost cost you your political career co-chair your campaign if he wasn't a very close companion?
McCain must be very happy that the Senate didn't have the right to investigate his actions and involvement with Keating while he was still in the House.
Criminals all.
At least Obama has the honor and honesty to admit what he has done.

Seriously? The economy is tanking and this guy is trying to make something out of teenage drug use that Obama detailed himself in his own book... I'd like to hear more about Cindy McCain's illegal drug use as an adult that almost landed her in jail but for her connections....

A Woman In California For Obama:   October 9th, 2008 7:50 pm ET

My personal advice: SPEAK TO THE PEOPLE ONCE AND FOR ALL ABOUT IT. It is good for teenagers to know it is wrong and not to go down that path. It will also clear things up once and for all. It is a non-issue for those of us who support you-but since they want to talk about issues-let's give them this one. The point is-look at how far Sen. Obama has come since those days. Unlike the American Gigolo (J. McCain) and this skeleton who obviously is constipated by the looks of that picture.

But let us not forget the candidates themselves. Always showing us the worst part of our country.

My vote doesn't matter anyway. This country is doomed to fail.

Instead than talking about Barack Obama, I would like some of these GOP people tell me something about their beloved George W. Bush, and how he made this country great. Was he good, huh?

So good that I should trust them again and vote for McCain, huh?

What a shameless distraction.

george   October 9th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

I would think that the McCain campaign would be very unwise to have anyone with the name Keating speak for them.

This is a specious attack. But the fact that they need someone from OK to attack Obama means they are now so worried about the reliability of their base that they are desperate.

BTW, CNN, where's the report on the AK Supreme Court decision today okaying the release of the Palin investigation findings?

Arden   October 9th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

Someone needs to investigate Sarah Palin and her past. It is my understanding that the only real vetting of Sarah Palin that took place was on a dirt road in Alaska and the only ones envolved were Cindi McCain and her husband John .

so? obama has already talked about this! c'mon this is NOT news and it wont change the outcome of this election: electing Barack obama)

Trysh, Los Angeles   October 9th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

Clearly past drug usage is of no issue to anyone in the Republican party. They voted in GWB TWICE and Cindy McCain is a recovering addict who commited crimes to get her drugs. She was never penalized, but the doctor who helped her lost his license to practice medicine.

mms   October 9th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

obama has been honest about his use of drugs from the onset.this is old and tired news.where has this man been, under a rock?

BGIV in NC   October 9th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

Old news – he wrote about it in his book two years ago. DESPERATION!!!

CastEvil   October 9th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

Why do the republicans think that we are so interested in someone's personal history.... Especially from over two decades ago.... Really, we have an economy tanking, someone who used drugs during their teen-age years will have just as much competence in dealing with the crisis as much as someone who did not. If he were a current user, I would be concerned, but its completely obvious that he reversed his lifestyle.

Cheri   October 9th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

Uhhhh...ummmm...Obama has talked about it. I remember it being brought up during the race for the Democratic nomination. And he also discusses it in his book. Repugs: you are just looking more and more desperate with each low-ball, dirty thing you can come up with. Most Americans are fed up with this nonsense (at least the ones that are not hard-core to the right conservatives). I'll be so glad when November 4th is here!

independentman   October 9th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

These people are so desperate that it is increasingly uterly pathetic. Is this all the McCain camp can come up with. Make things so bad, they think that the American people are igmorant enough to fall for this non-sense. It's over McCain and company, go home.

Obama/Biden 08

flagwavin1   October 9th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

Considering what other politicians have admitted to in the past and not admitted to, this really shouldn't be an issue. Our current president Bush had a DUI record and there are rumors about drug use by him as well. Other Presidents have had their weakenesses while IN office. At least Mr. Obama has come to terms with himself and it shows by his wife and family and admirable campaign, that he is more than capable of running the country.

grasping for straws   October 9th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

uhhh, the man wrote a book. how much more open and candid does Keating thinks Obama needs to get.

Former Republican   October 9th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

What else is the McCain campaign going to talk about? They have no decent ideas, and they cannot discuss the fitness of McCain and Palin.

The Republicans think that going 100% negative is going to save them in November. They are wrong. Americans remember how George W Bush got elected.

Voters are not going to make the same mistake again. McCain and Palin are not fit for office, especially at this critical juncture in history.

Wendy in NC   October 9th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

How is this news? Obama wrote about it openly in his books. Big Deal. Bush also used cocaine, Palin admits smoking/growing marijuana. The republican campaign is SERIOUSLY out of ideas, aren't they?

lance   October 9th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

America, expect John McCain and his surrogates to stoop lower than Whale poo and we know that is on the bottom of the Ocean. A desperate campaign is floundering.

So Cal Gal   October 9th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

Wow, that reek’s of desperation!

Larry   October 9th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

Does anybody really care about this?

X-Republican in Texas for Obama   October 9th, 2008 7:48 pm ET

What is McCain's campaign going to come up with next? That Obama didn't do he's homework when he was eight grade. Maybe if McCain experiment with drugs when he was a teenager he would be so dam uptight now.

Tony   October 9th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

JUST WHEN YOU THINK MCCAIN CAN'T SINK ANY LOOWER, OUT COMES ALL TEH SCUM FROM UNDER THEIR ROCKS.

WHAT A PATHETIC, DESPERATE OLD MAN!

stacy   October 9th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

wonder how he afforded drugs? did grandmother give him the money
or mother who was on food stamps?

Kevin,FL   October 9th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

Well this fair.. since the senator from MO Claire McCaskill said McCain's age is fair game.

Old Guy   October 9th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

Julie in NC   October 9th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

This is a big nothing. He admitted it. Time to move on.

SAGG   October 9th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

Oh, Lord, McCain and his people are coming apart at the seams! Folks, we have GOT to put them down by voting for Obama, and I mean in droves! A serious, butt-tootying, talked-about landslide victory for the ages is needed here, and NOW!!

Heather   October 9th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

D E S P E R A T E !

McC and company are starting to look very pathetic.

kendall   October 9th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

So if he read the books, heard the comments, know it was talked about, why beat a dead horse?
-Oh I know McCains the horse and he's still kicking.
-Really though it was talked about, and decisions were made after the fact.

- Now if he was a D average student, with a drinking problem, a coke head and found ways to avoid the military using he's dad position then Id be afraid, Id be very afraid.

Letsgetreal   October 9th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

Predictably as things get worse and worse for McCain, he abandons his pretenses at an honorable campaign and he and his surrogates go for the groin. I am offended that he wants to pander to the lowest common denominator. In doing so, he, his supporters, and the not-delightful Governor Palin are only validating the prejudices and low road values of the extreme right. I am appalled that attendees of your and Governor Palins rallies are shouting hate slogans and racist words.Too bad, Mr. McCain, that Barack Obama appeals to us to find the best in our selves and believe that together, the change we need is possible. Your only appeal is to the lowest of the low who are already prejudiced and divisive and your only hope to win seems to be your encouragement of that. We need your ilk like we need the plague.

Bonnie, GA   October 9th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

This smear tactict didn't work for Hillary, and it won't work for John.

First of all, Barack was in his twenties. Secondly, John McCain left his wife and kids in his forties–his FORTIES. Do you really want to go down this path? I don't think so.

I'll see your drugs and raise you one abondoned wife and three kids.
–John McShame

I mean, really.

AzVoter   October 9th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

As a native of Arizona, I am quite ashamed of the McCain campain. I witnessed Cindy McCain's drug addiction. As an adult, she stole from a charity in the name of her addiction. She was never prosecuted due to the special treatment afforded the wife of a POW. It is unbelievable that the RNC would even speak upon teenage experimentation while hiding Cindy McCain's adult addiction under the rug.

Shame on you John McCain.

Barbara   October 9th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

Please tell us this is not THE Charles Keating, who was indicted, served time in Federal Prison for over 4 years as a result of the S&L banking scandals of the late 80's early 90's!. Please tell us that this is not the same man working as a consultant on a presidential campaign that continues to spew negative barbs in the direction of the Obama campaign. If it is the same, sad that a convicted felon has been given the opportunity to make comments. What he should be doing is apologizing to the American public for the loss of billions of dollars years ago. Does that ring a bell today? Shame on the McCain campaign

Audree   October 9th, 2008 7:46 pm ET

This is going way too far. Has these surrogates not examine John Mccains past? If you want to bring these things up from the past then dont have that clueless VP Palin lecture Biden about always going to the past. If Im suppose to believe that a persons past defines there future then I wouldnt have faith in any of these folks. Im a first time voter and now I know why Ive ignored politics all this time. Obama is inspiring and if nothing else, these people should be grateful to him for opening up young folks mind. Remember, The young people are the future.

Darnell   October 9th, 2008 7:46 pm ET

I could actually hear his studdering and stammering as I read that last paragraph.

Brian   October 9th, 2008 7:46 pm ET

You mean you want Barack Obama to tell the truth? Again? I knew you republicans don't understand the concept of speaking the truth. He has already addressed this issue. He wrote about it. He does not deny it. If he didn't mention it, we may not even know anything about it. The truth, it's obvious you guys can't even recognize when it's staring you in the face.

James   October 9th, 2008 7:46 pm ET

Obama wrote about his experimenting with drugs. He is clear, forthright about it. There is nothing further to talk about, trying to turn it to McCain's advantage by asking him to repeat what he already said isn't going be any help.

Jack   October 9th, 2008 7:46 pm ET

Dennis Miller is the worst of the worst when it comes to the media. He should have stayed on the comedy circuit. In one word he can best be described as an idiot and this report on the ticker says one simple thing – McCain is so desparate, he is pulling at straws.

mihaly   October 9th, 2008 7:46 pm ET

This is laughable. I was a stronger McCain supporter until last week. I am truly ashamed of my party...

Why should Mr. Obama tell us again, what we already know..??

Even Mr. Keating5 knows it; as he stated it so well. Barack has returned to the center.

Mrs. Mc Cain has done drugs and committed comingling and embezzlement of trust funds.. But She stayed to the right.

Should she tell us all as well?

Chris K   October 9th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Obama has already commented on using drugs in his youth. This is old news. More desperation from the Republicans! Nothing new to see here.

Clara, Martha's Vineyard   October 9th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

. . . Then he went on to Columbia, Harvard law School, became a
Constitutional Scholar, A law professor, and a US Senator, and
President of the United States.

(I would compare those credentials to McCain and Palin's anyday).

Amber   October 9th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Obama has an hour long program that runs concurrently 24 hours a day on my dish sarelite service where he clearly states that he drank and used drugs when he was a teen. What else more can he say about it. Goodness! The republicans needs to get a grip.

KYle   October 9th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Uh, he already has. He wrote in in a book. Now, back to the issues- like another triple digit loss in market.

Annie, Atlanta   October 9th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

They're all just crawling out of the woodwork now, aren't they. What about the issues McCain and Palin? We're sinking and all you care about, Senator McCain, is winning at all costs. Pathetic.

CM   October 9th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Our sitting president has a history of alcohol abuse and cocaine use and you're a member of his party.

Its getting increasingly desperate on the GOP side of the fence.

Voice of Reason = Obama/Biden   October 9th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Barack's admission of past drug use and his subsequent recovery inspire me more than Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No" War on Drugs ever did. Barack has street cred. Good for him for turning the corner.

Chelsea   October 9th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

This is SILLY. Stop it!

Terri   October 9th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Yep... Bill Clinton smoked pot (but didn't inhale.yeah...right.... He probably choked!) in college. Let's not forget about George Bush's frequent rides on the White Horse. You can come up with something better than that Mr. Keating. This is the 21st century.

Obama 08   October 9th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

Keep grasping at straws Republicans. Lets not forget that the President had a run in with the white lady as well. Is there any chance that the economy and McCains "newest" plan can become the focus?

Look at the people at the McCain rallies. Look at the incredible hate.

McCain and the Republicans now have NO MORAL GROUND WHATSOEVER to stand on. There is no honor left in the Republican party.

Anita in Portland   October 9th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

What the McCain camp is bringing up now are all things the public is/has been aware of and he has never tried to deny his experimentation or how he was on the wrong path at a young age.

Despite this, he is still ahead in nearly every poll and the Republicans can't stand that honesty is prevailing. How upsetting it must be for the them that they have been lying all this time and they could have just told the truth and still win an election.

Can't wait to see "That Guy" in the White House.

Tom   October 9th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

McSame and Palin = say anything @ hate rallies

Obama 08

Brunswick   October 9th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

Senator McCain and his surrogates are clearly bankrupt of ideas, vision, energy, and now obviously, morals. The levels to which they are sinking suggests profound desperation at the growing tide of change that this country is hungry for and that Senator Obama represents. The McCain/Palin campaign is a disgrace to democracy and decency. They cannot possibly run on the failed policies, incompetence, croynism, and criminality that 8 years of Bush, Cheney, and Republican rubber-stamp majority have wrought on this great country, that McCain willingly went along with and Palin didn't have a clue about until 5 weeks ago. They can't run on their record, so they denigrate a sitting United States Senator, accusing him of all manner of vile and untrue things. McCain is no man of honor. He is no "maverick." And he is no one I want as president. Stop this madness, Senator McCain and Governor Palin– your vile rhetoric is inciting a very dangerous sort of ugliness and panic in some of your rabid-dog followers– you have no idea what you might unleash in some unhinged supporters of yours. Pull BACK from this abyss. Preserve what little dignity you have left. If you have any.

el   October 9th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

Is this the same Keating that stole around two billion dollars, was instrumental in the S&L scandal, and went to jail?

wyoming dem   October 9th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

And what is it exactly they want him to say about this that he hasn't said a long time ago? Gimme a break. What's next? He's addicted to sports and trail mix? We know that too.
Desperate tactics. Pathetic.

dejah   October 9th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

P.S. They are bringing this up in order to deflect attention away from the troopergate findings, which will come out on Friday... and to keep people from seeing how desperately they are losing to Obama on all the issues that Americans care about.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot   October 9th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

...and how many of our leaders drink alcohol? Would you care to examine the health effects of marijuana vs. alcohol? I'd be happy to walk you through the statistics.

I've always liked that Keating!

Haris Siddiqui   October 9th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

Another reason why i get more and more convinced that i wont let these Dirty & demonizing Republicans my Vote. Senator McCain had all my respect but as this process plays out my anger for him has only increased and now i'm happy that last week i switched my status from being a Republican to a Democrat. The Democratic party is not perfect but Obama to me seems above the average Politician.

These outrageous accusations about Obama's "friendship" with Ayers who bombed Pentagon 40 years ago (and never actually killed any one) while our current president Bombed the life out of Iraq and killed a Million Iraqi's just goes to show how astray the once Great Republican party has gone.

Mark my words, Obama will not only unite this country. He will also unite us with our allies and bring about change on a global scale. God Bless America & the whole of Mankind!

Ron was a REP now a DEM   October 9th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

paul   October 9th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

Obama copped to this long, long ago. He discussed it in his book and needs to go no further than that with it. Gov Keating is reverting to the same low tactics that Cindy McCain and Sarah Palin have stopped to in the past week – That is bringing up "dead horse issues."

How sad that McCain's campaign workers and supporters think this is the way to get their candidate elected on Nov 4.

William, Atl, GA   October 9th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

I'd rather have a president that was once high on cocaine than one that was once sleeping through discussions on the war in Iraq. And they asked who would be awake to answer that 3 A.M. phone call.

A man admitting he did cocaine or voting for McCain

Which is more dangerous?

You decide.

Anonymous   October 9th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

Bush drank, McCain gambles, Cindy stole pills, Palin just lies...So what!? You will never find anyone without skeletons in the closet!

Dan, TX   October 9th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

Old news, who cares.

Is he using cocaine now? Last 10 years? No? Then who cares?
NOT ME.
The question is, what is McCain using now? What are his prescriptions? Could any of them affect his mood, judgment?
THAT IS A MORE IMPORTANT QUESTION!

Atlian   October 9th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

Now he already knows about the drug use because Obama wrote about it in his book and he has talked about it in his speeches. So what is it more that he wants him to say about it? Just like Ayers. He admitted he worked with him, lives in his neighborhoo, even "friendly" to him. So what more is there to admit? What am I missing?

dejah   October 9th, 2008 7:42 pm ET

This is old news. When are the GOP talking heads going to start talking about what matters to Americans?

Also, if they want to bring up Obama's admitted drug use as a TEENAGER, then perhaps Mr McCain's gambling addiction and his temper and his treatment of his wife AND HER drug addiction should also be on the table. Fair's fair.

When the GOP demonize Obama, they demonize a LOT of people who have gotten past their teenage problems and are getting on with useful, productive lives.

I reall hope this isnt the same Keating who stole 200,000 people life savings..if so, Mr.Keating you have no ground to talk about morals. even clinton and bush jr experimented with druges during their adolescent times. most kids have experimented with drugs or binge drinking during their h.s or college times...and majority stop before becoming of adult age.....I swear rupublicans act as if they are saints...after all the corrpution and not answering to supeanos, buah and his party Believe they can get away with murder and all they have to say is a democrat did it

NetteNAZ   October 9th, 2008 7:40 pm ET

This is really getting old. Obama spoke about this very openly with Diane Sawyer, approximately 2 Fridays ago. Not too mention, in book and during other interviews. Who hasn't made mistakes??!! Perhaps the supporters of Obama should discuss McCain's extramarital affairs on both his wives. His stupid acts as a teenager and early adulthood, let's see his crashing plans, etc. I forgot those records are sealed.

Buffalo, NY   October 9th, 2008 7:39 pm ET

He has been forthright about his past drug use.... He's not trying to hide anything so quit trying to make it seem like he is. He disclosed his past drug use in his books and address the issue during the primary. Besides, I know I for-one don't care weather or not he's experimented with drugs. . . I wanna know how I'm gonna heat my house this winter, or how I'm gonna make my car payment once I get laid-off. This econom,ic crisis has my employer talking about poss. lay-offs in the next month or two!

I guess...   October 9th, 2008 7:39 pm ET

For some reason, because he's a Democrat, writing about it frankly doesn't count as being open anymore. What's he supposed to do? Compose an opera about his drug using days?

Aside from Clinton's "I smoked, but I didn't inhale" I can't remember any other candidate being anywhere near this open about the topic.

Tim   October 9th, 2008 7:38 pm ET

He has admitted it. Over ten years ago. Where was this guy when W was running in 2000 and refused to talk about his past drug use?

Jeffrey   October 9th, 2008 7:38 pm ET

I'm confused. Are we supposed to look to the future like Palin said in the debate or look to the past? Didn't Obama already cover this in his book? Can't America read? Or is reading a Democratic virtue.

You can smell the desperation in the McCain camp. And it stinks.

Dylan from MN   October 9th, 2008 7:38 pm ET

A lot of us have been there(myself included), I think it makes him more human.

Dealt   October 9th, 2008 7:38 pm ET

Obama has spoken about it. Why don't you Republicans let go of old issues and talk about what matters most to the voters? The economy should be the issue. Are you afraid?

Jams   October 9th, 2008 7:38 pm ET

He should be candid and admit it? Keating, you only know about it because he told you about it, and America, in one of his books (not that you read them!).

Carol   October 9th, 2008 7:38 pm ET

As a Republican from Oklahoma, I am changing my vote to Obama...Frank Keating was no prize governor for this state and as the weeks have gone by I have witnessed the most appalling ads by McCain and his cronies....I have had enough....I am ashamed to be called a Republican...and I will not be voting for McCain...

Jeff   October 9th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

That's weird–he's admitted all of this in his books and in speeches. How can he be any more candid?

At any rate, he's been more candid about it than John McCain's been about his womanizing, gambling, and drinking.

Nation in Crisis   October 9th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

"He ought to admit, ‘You know, I've got to be honest with you. "

Barack already admitted to it in his own book in 1995?
With the stock market dropping 500 points a day, wouldn't it be better to focus on the real issues facing this country rather than engaging in Rove-like smears? Enough already.

Independant, Ohio   October 9th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

This is funny. McCain is trying to make an issue out of an openly discussed bad decision that he made as a youngster. We all make mistakes when we are young. The problem is that McCain is still making horrible mistakes that effect many more people than just himself. McCain made a terrible mistake by voting to fight a war in Iraq. Many many people have died because of this. McCain is still making bad decisions.

Frank, MO   October 9th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

How low can you go, McCain ?

Barbara CA   October 9th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

Interesting.

So, this is the absolute BEST argument the republicans can come up with to win the White House? Seriously??

CJ   October 9th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

This is still dragging up the past. The GOP is trying everything possible to change the course of this election.
Everday they come up with something new. Makes me really wonder if I would want a man like McCain in the White House when all he can do is throw crap on the wall and see what sticks.
Obama still takes the high road.

Jon   October 9th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

This is why McCain will lose the election..... Looking at everything that is not relevant now... John McCain, get a grip and try to be the man you used to be!!!

annie - never again a dem.   October 9th, 2008 7:36 pm ET

This is so not presidential material. His only plan is to sell our country down the river!!!

Ben   October 9th, 2008 7:36 pm ET

I wish Keating were running!

Bezekial Jones   October 9th, 2008 7:36 pm ET

If he wrote it in his book and put it out there then why does he have to come out and say it. Would that be Redundant.....They are grasping at straws.

Erik   October 9th, 2008 7:36 pm ET

Oh good grief. This is just getting absurd. Will the Republicans bring up the time Obama stole candy money from his mother's purse at age 7 next? We're laughing at you out here in America, McCain campaigners. Laughing.

Barbara - 65 yr old white female in NC   October 9th, 2008 7:36 pm ET

Guess that opens up Cindy Lou stealing from her charity for years for her habit.

HA HA HA HA HA HA

texas democrat   October 9th, 2008 7:36 pm ET

I think that is one of the requirements to be president. Let's see Bush, Clinton {he didn't inhale though} so do i really care? Now what about stealing drugs from people who doesn't reallly need them and not spending any time in prison!

Randy   October 9th, 2008 7:36 pm ET

Pathetic McCain surrogates at it again. I guess Cindy McCain stealing drugs from her charity to feed her drug habit is ok but teenage experimentation which 95% of American have done is horrible.

Monica, Texas   October 9th, 2008 7:36 pm ET

Just as soon as McCain talks about his gambling and his wife's drug use.....Keathing 5, and US Council for World Freedom.

Dan (Redmond, WA)   October 9th, 2008 7:35 pm ET

Who cares? I don't care about the past. I want to know what the candidates offer for the present and the future.

John Stevens   October 9th, 2008 7:35 pm ET

Let the garbage continue .... What about McCain's gambling and adultery ?

Seriously it is sad that the campaign of McCain has gotten so low.

Don in Florida   October 9th, 2008 7:34 pm ET

Everybody makes mistakes, especially when their young. "That One" in 08

Chris   October 9th, 2008 7:34 pm ET

Are they really going after drug use...really!?!?

Tooele, Utah.   October 9th, 2008 7:34 pm ET

If they want Obama to talk about his Drug addicting maybe Cindy McCain should talk about her past drug abuse.

barackobama4prez   October 9th, 2008 7:34 pm ET

uh....Cindy McCain was addicted to pain killers. Nice try though.

NoMccain   October 9th, 2008 7:33 pm ET

This is not news. It's old, and in his books he wrote. All of these latest allegations against Obama are old news, they've been deliberated already, and the Mccain campaign is grasping at straws. As far as talk concerning voter registration... this is simply a sign of the power behind the Barack Obama campaign... a Movement that cannot be stopped.

sms   October 9th, 2008 7:33 pm ET

How much more do these guys need to dig up the dirt???? Are you kidding me???

So sad that it has come to such juvenille behavior in the home stretch. If you think that bringing this up is going to win McCain votes, you are sorely mistaken. Idiots.

NJ   October 9th, 2008 7:33 pm ET

Drug Abuse- another side of Sen Obama he is hiding from the American people!!!!
