Bush was drunk till he was 40 years old and had a drunk driving rap, and wasen't a teenager when this occured. Obama was honest and told us about his experience with drugs in the primaries. So what's the big scoop??

All these issues have been addressed in a publication already. This means that people that are willing and able to read can know this knowledge for themselves. And why is something you did in high school important at this stage in his lfe? Oh yeah, because the opponent is like way behind in the polls! Bury them Barack!

Oh come on! We've all done stupid things when we were young. Republicans and Democrats alike are equally guilty of making naive mistakes in their younger years. Hey, I'll even admit that I've gone through a "pothead" phase in my own life. But the point is that I got out of it once I came to the realization that it was a detriment to my future success. I'm clean now, and have a graduate degree in engineering. None of the people I know, even my own family, hold that against me. I refuse to hold adolescent indiscretions against either candidate. Neither should any of you! Especially any of you out there who have ever "experimented" at any point in your life.

I agree with all of the above comments. There was a time I believed McCain had some integrity. That time is long gone.

So what?
Our current president is a recovering alcoholic, Palin admitted to smoking pot, etc. . .
Does Senator McCain and his surrogates not have anything tangible to say to us? Why is their topic and subject Senator Obama?
GM shares tanked, the DOW keeps falling. . .Sigh.
Anyone voting for the McCain/Palin ticket must be a low-information voter.
I just don't have any other explanation.

McCain is a man who has become totally devoid of any integrity. He continues to lie, lie, lie. And why bring up these issues from the past. Everyone has some things they are not proud of in their past. What matters is how someone overcome these and lives a positive and honorable life now.

McCain has no honor. He is so anxious to get into power as president, he has lost all sense of reason and decency. He is shameful and has soiled his military honor as well by doing this. Remember this is the man who said in an interview with the DesMoines Register:

“I’m not saying this is the perfect answer. If I were dictator, which I always aspire to be, I would write it … a little bit differently.”

Dictator right!! I am sure that was an honest slip of the tongue. This is exactly what he would be.

No McCain No Palin unless we want the country to become a banana republic.

Let me see if I understand this. Obama admits to experimenting with drugs, not an UNHEARD of event for teenagers, and others, in this country. Yet, because he discusses it in his book, and obviously did NOT become a "junkie" or "pot head" but instead went on to Columbia University and got a LAW degree, this is a knock against him???

Now he's being slammed by McCain/Palin and surrogates for being HONEST?? For being and EXAMPLE of what a person can achieve when they resist/overcome the temptation of drugs??

Yeah, sheesh...wouldn't want to set a GOOD EXAMPLE, now would we, McCain/Palin??? Much prefer to sling mud in your desperation.

The McCain campaign is in full desperation mode. The democratic primary already vetted Obama in case they were'nt watching. The McCain campaign has been out manuevered and overmatched from the start. They have run out of any legitimate ideas and frankly it is sad.

Yeah, and Bill Clinton smoked pot (whether he inhaled or not) and I'll take 8 years of Clinton to 8 years of Bush (who was an alcoholic no less).

I don't think most people care about what he did when he was a teen or young adult. I mean come on, how many of us did some form of drugs or drink a lot in college?

I smoked weed, did mushrooms, and drank like a fish in college. Now, I am 33 and a parent and haven't touched any drugs since college and I drink socially. But according to Republican logic, my past makes me a bad person for life. How pathetic.

Most Americans will realize these are all pathetic smears and highly obvious ones at that. All the more reason to get rid of as many Republicans as possible and replace them with Obama as President and a 60 seat majority in the Senate. That would be such poetic justice to reduce the Republicans to an irrelevant minority in the Senate that wouldn't be able to filibuster!!!!

I' m from OKlahoma and Keating is not highly thought of in this State.......what's that tell you? So what if he did experiment with drugs, a lot of people have but wouldn't admitt it......Obama did admit it so that makes him an honest man in my opinion. With all this trash the republicans are throwing it is all going to come back to them and hit them in the face on Nov.4.........this is not helping McCain get the undecided voters or the women voters, he is turning more away than he is getting to vote for him.

Is this Keating any relation to Charles Keating, the S&L banker who was a personal friend of Senator McCain? The fraud & mismanagement of Lincoln Savings & Loan was bad. Senator McCain was (surprise) front & center in helping the S & Ls stay deregulated while his pal played fast & loose with uninsured depositors funds.Keating was sent to jail. McCain got off with a reprimand from Senate Ethics for trying to stop the investigation.

You know, really!! He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone. There have been other presidential candidates who have done similar activities yet went on to the White House.

This is between Obama and his God! Judge not and be ye not judged. For all the Bible reading the right wingers claim to do, they sure do not walk the talk!

Now is the time for serious prayer for Sen. Obama and Sen. Biden. The devil is busy. Unfortunately the pastor that prayed over Gov. Palin could rebuke the spirit within. So now it's up to the rest of us to band together and rebuke the evil spirits within the Republican campaign.

The prayer of a righteous man availeth much! Let us pray....

Mccain is really sinking to the lowest level possible. He's drowning in defeat and he's reaching for a life line..which apparently is digging dirt on Obama. DOes he not know that it will not work. He's just making himself look desperate.

Let everyone that has never used some kind of recreational drug cast their stones. I sure won't be throwing any in the ring. Who cares? It sure didn't hurt that super intelligent brain of his. It's irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. I'm pretty sure even McCain smoked his fair share of pot back in the day. Vietnam? Or sure! Get out of here. Bunch of hypocrits is what they are.

It's sad to see the Republicans disgrace America because they are so desperate to maintain their grip on power. If their myriad failings of the past 28 years don't convince voters it's time to truly change the direction of America, then certainly the disgraceful, despicable and disgusting rhetoric spewed by the Republican Party in recent days certainly should.

Has John McCain lost his mind???? Here was a man, who by all reasonable accounts, came into this election as the front-runner. He has the experience, he is a distinguished veteran with a record of bipartisan cooperation, he was not the same kind of Republican as George W.... How has it come to this? John McCain and Sarah Palin have brought shame to themselves in this campaign. How can they solicit votes from people who are silly enough to get caught up in smear campaigns when our country is in a serious crisis? I guess John McCain really is as out of touch as everyone says.

I get it! Ayers (who, by the way was Citizen of the Year in Chicago in 1997), "ohmygod Barack took some drugs when he was an adolescent"--It's becoming clear now, with the increasingly desperate and ridiculous tone of McCain's campaign: McCain is still living in the 60's! The Weathermen, anti-Viet Nam protests, etc. etc.--McCain is still THERE. Get over it, John. We know you came from an Admiral's family, we know you were among those who volunteered for service, we know you were shot down and tortured, but Viet Nam is OVER. The Weathermen are FINISHED. Viet Nam was an ILLEGAL WAR. People TAKE DRUGS AS ADOLESCENTS AND ARE STILL OK AS ADULTS.
Time to move on. Obama, who lives in the present and beyond, the future's yours.

OMG you idiots... this has all been covered before!!! Obama even discussed this in his autobiography!

MCCAIN AND HIS CRONIES ARE DESPERATE!!!

America is speaking through the polling data we're seeing... this is not the kind of politics we want or leader we need. If McCain keeps this up, it's going to be an Obama landslide, and that's FINE BY ME!

I hope McCain loses and then loses his senate seat next election after showing the people of Arizona what an tool he is!

Obama/Biden '08 by a landslide!!!

I wonder if there are things in McCain and Palins past that they would not want to keep responding to - In McCains case what about the problems around his first marriage - maybe we the voters would like to have a full and public debate about that - this stuff is so nuts on so many levels - it just goes to show us how desparte the repubs are to having there guy win at any cost - shameful. How does McCain sleep at niight - on a corkscrew I think.

Every wine barrel has dregs at the bottom. They don't go down very well, and neither do the pathetic attempts by the McCain folks to dredge up scum. The Arizona patriarch never fails to cash in on his POW days. He tries to distance himself from his record of helping the Vietcong in its propaganda against our country, and no one doubts that he did it unwillingly, but while there's no disgrace in breaking under torture there's no heroism in it either. He, like any of us veterans,is deserving of the gratitude of his fellow citizens but it doesn't entitle him to a seat in the Oval Office. History books last longer than sleazy sound bytes. He should remember this, and try to preserve what little respect he still has left.

More off issue wind from a struggling campaign Look, Obama came as clean as one can without providing film footage. There are precious few Boomers and post-Boomers who can say they have never tried a single illegal substance.
I'ld be more concerned about Obama's past legal services helping the ACORN organization. His involvement in that as an adult in something that Americans should be concerned about. All the voter fraud is terrible. What a great American right we have and to see it abused is pathetic.

Obama has never tried to hide his past mistakes. That is what sets him apart from many other great politicians and not so great politicians. What a relief to finally have a politician who is not only imperfect, but admits that he is not perfect.

The McCain/Palin ticket obviously needs to tie a rope and hold on. The ship is sinking and the camp's efforts to bail out are inevitably useless.

Where has this guy been? He must not read much. Obama talked about this in his book. He explained that he was going to be up front about it in his campaign. He talked about it on tv early on in his campaign and answered host show questions about it i.e. on Larry King Live. And I don't see why that would matter now. There are MANY younger voters who have been a part of that scene and would understand where he is coming from. Those of you who have children who are now around 35 know what I am talking about. I know the pressures my kids went through in high school and college. I wish they hadn't felt a need to fall into peer pressure, but they did. However, they are very productive lovely adults now. And it is very obvious none of it affected his brain - he is sharper than most. I appreciate his natural gifts for leadership. He definitely is a natural. I agree with Michelle Obama when she said he can see a complex situation and understand it - and explain it in terms most people can't.
People ask the wrong questions. How could he have taken drugs? The question should be, did he get past it? Cindy McCain seems to have overcome her drug problem. Are you going to dig that back up too?

What TRASH!!! At least Obama was honest about it ... and I have to add that I bet he didn't STEAL it!

The question I have is why the heck is Sarah Palin's stooges who resisted a valid subpoena not in contempt of court??? I heard a law professor (from Gtown, I think) interviewed saying that this was the first time in the history of the Republic, that a person running for P/VP has resisted a subpoena. WHY is this ok???????

I'm voting for the SMART one!
Obama/Biden 08 and Beyond!!
Turn VA Blue!!!
