(CNN) - Barack Obama continues to hold significant leads over John McCain, a fresh round of state and national polls out Thursday suggest, in what is unwelcome news for the Republican presidential nominee as Election Day inches closer and closer.
The Illinois senator now holds a 6 point lead over McCain nationwide, a new CNN poll of polls consisting of five recently released surveys show, while 8 percent remain undecided.
A string of new state polls also show Obama holding significant leads in several key battleground states, including Minnesota, New Hampshire, Ohio, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. McCain is holding onto leads in Montana and Missouri.
In Minnesota, CNN's latest poll of polls shows Obama up 11 points, 52-41 percent, while he holds a 9 point lead in CNN's latest New Hampshire poll of polls, 51-42 percent. Obama is also holding onto a 4 point lead in Ohio, 50-46 percent in CNN's latest poll of polls there.
In West Virginia, Obama holds an 8 point lead in a new American Research Group poll, though CNN's Sept. 21-23 poll of West Virginia showed McCain leading there by 4 points. In Wisconsin, a new Research 2000 poll shows Obama with a 10 point lead, 51-41 percent. CNN's Wisconsin poll earlier this month showed Obama with a 5 point lead.
In Missouri, a new CNN poll of polls shows McCain hanging onto a 1 point lead, while the Arizona senator has a 5 point lead in Montana according to a new American Research Group poll.

My family, myself, and my friends are going to go all the way with Barack Obama. My family, myself, and friends are financially struggling because of job losses! It is not fun when you have to constantly living in pins and needles to figure out how you are going to pay your bills and groceries. What about you are worried and stressed out in the middle of the night about tomorrow and the future..you developed migraine headaches, depressions, stomach aches or just aches all over your body! Barack Obama always remained calm, cool, and collective which he and Biden will do their very best to help us pull out of the quagmires that hit us so badly.
NO MORE OF THE REPUBLICANS WHO BROUGHT US AND THE COUNTRY DOWN.. BiG LOSSES OF LIVES IN THESE VERY EXPENSIVE WARS!
Obama leading in West Virginia? Is this a typo? I thought he had a slight lead in Virginia, but West Virginia!!!! I did not know that WV was a battle ground
Go Obama!
It looks like all the negative BS –the McLame camp is spewing isn't working. Nice try, we won't let it happen again.
i am from OHIO I DO NOT BELIEVE IN ABORTION I DO NOT VOTE O BAMA.........COUNT MY VOTE FOR REALITY life at birth/
He's going to win.
a one point lead in Missouri and headed in the right direction....
This is adding to up to landslide!
Obama/Binde '08! For peace and prosperity
Looks Like OBAMA is cruising now.
READ YOUR HISTORY BOOK PEOPLE....ITS ALWAYS A DEMOCRAT THAT SAVES THE DAY! WWI, WWII, KOREA, CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS.......and
all you REGAN LOVERS: What did Ronald Regan ever do in his 8 years? Lets see, Nancy ran the last two years he was in office because he had become too unstable. He didnt outspend the Russians that was a little Texas Congressman named Charlie Wilson (but daddy REGAN) got the credit! Oh he gave us Iran Contra and 250.00 toilet seats...remember those? So other than bomb Lybia just what did he do? Fire the AT controllers and put this nation in a deadly situation....sure he could speak (HE WAS AN ACTOR) but not much else....he wa sall talk with a "Cowboy Persona" ...alot of hot air...
Now Obama is in the mold of John F. Kennedy a GREAT president who did so much more for this country in 3 years than Regan did in eight! Too bad those two couldn't have debated...JFK would have kicked his butt! This country needs smart leaders like JFK...like Dr. King, like RFK! Like OBAMA!
we need SMART PEOPLE not SMRT people (Bush, McCain/Palin)
Veterans for Obama
All those people are about to be turned away at the polls.
That's right! This is how we do it.
Good news for Obama, especially the recent surge in West Virginia!
It's done.
I hope this is a lasting message about negative campaigning, if nothing else. It is time to put fear-mongering and hatred driven campaigning to bed.
We are in for a tough time with the economy, but, at least we don't have to listen to the name-calling and devisive slogans much longer.
I look forward to a new era in our country. One based on true faith in ourselves and not some phony retorical crap by those who would lie to each and every one of us just to get elected.
Rock on Barack, put the past behind us and truly, "let's roll".
Good for Obama.... won't take 30 minutes to dispel the hateful stupidiity of the McCain camp, then he will have time to truly share the vision he has. Obama is an intelligent, articulate, thoughtful and excellent man. Such a shame he has to put up with the "Alice in Wonderland" b.s. from the cheshire cat and the madhatter with lipstick.!!!! I'm a Canadian and look forward to a presidency south of the border of sanity! What you do in the U.S. certainly affects Canada in many ways. Just as an aside... McCain mentioned the Canadian system of healthare with disdain. I am an senior... pay $2.00 for prescriptions, have excellent health care and would not go bancrupt in a catastrophic illness. Just to set the record straight!!!!
And don't think we aren't working hard here in Missouri to make Obama OUR pick for President!
And that includes the Missouri Ozarks!!!!
Obama, please come back to Missouri. I would love for you to win Missouri.
DONT BELIEVE ANY POLL FOLKS ITS A RATING GAME FOR THE NETWORKS. WE WILL ALL FIND OUT ON NOV 4TH. TAKE YOUR POLLS AND SHOVE THEM WERE THE DAYLITE DONT SHINE.
MEDIATORS CANNOT PICK THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNTIED STATES AND THAT IS WHAT THEY ARE TRYING TO DO FOLKS.
Thanks to our current president, the American public are scholars in Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Political Spin and we will never be foiled again. We are much smarter than we ever were and we will never forget the lessons learned.
Kudos to Obama for leading us by example already. He has a very loyal and newly intelligent citizenry eager to fix this great country of ours.
Obama has many supporters, but he is also attracting the people who are scared by McCain's aggressive attitude toward other countries, wishy-washy discussions about the economy, health issues, and poor choice of a running-mate.
West Virginia!!! Are you serious??
It aint over until he raises his hand to the bible and swears in folks! Don't celebrate too much yet. But keep it to the grind stone
Just One Person. You are just one person. If you influence just one person, then America wins. If you register just one person to vote then you have contributed to America. From now until election day, if you make it your goal to get just one person to vote for Barack Obama and Joe Biden then YOU have rescued America. You, just one person!
Nice.
When I look at the crowd at the Obama rallies, I see the America I live in, a rainbow of people coming together for a common cause. In NYC no one saw skin color on 911, same with Katrina or any natural disaster. Can't say I see the same diversity on the Republican side and they seem to like it this way, pity.
The republicans will be much better off with an Obama win. They can blame the difficult times ahead on the democrats while they sit back and regroup.
Calling all republicans! Save the republican party and vote for Obama.
Fear not, John McCain, the Bushbots will be coming out in full force for you any time now – just like they did in South Carolina in 2000!
McCain, you're getting hosed by Bush, and Bush doesn't care!!!
