The Obama campaign has previously run a two-minute commercial; today it announced has purchased 30-minute blocks of time on the broadcast networks.

(CNN) – Barack Obama is buying 30 minutes of airtime on the major television networks just days before the presidential election, the Obama campaign confirms.

Sources with the Obama campaign say half hour blocks have been purchased on Wednesday, October 29 on CBS and NBC.  The campaign is also in negotiations with Fox, though that day will conflict with the World Series if there is a game 6.

The buy was first reported by the Hollywood reporter earlier Thursday.

Evan Tracey of Campaign Media Analysis Group, CNN's consultant on ad spending, said it was unclear how much the blocs of air would cost, but noted 30 seconds alone in primetime usually runs between $80,000 and $125,000.

"This is a big platform, this is a big megaphone, the interest level is clearly there and people will watch," Tracey said.

Nancy, you typify the Obama supporter; one who listens to a bunch of empty words. Everyone goes ga ga over Obamer, whether he's in a debate, or at a campaign event, yet all he does is speak in vicious circles, never saying anything of substance. I finally realized that he's figured he can speak a bunch of fancy sounding words, act as if he knows what he's talking about, and fool people like you. I never fully realized how many ignorant Americans there were until Barry hit the scene.

Chris, IL   October 9th, 2008 7:10 pm ET

My gut said that this is too much. But I felt the same way about accepting the nomination and it was really well-done. He won't hog the stage.

Oh great what we need is another hollywood junkie with his own tv station and now another 30 minutes, next I know there will be nothing else on tv. Maybe Opra or Joy will get him his own tv show, if so I'll have to throw out the tv.

The six states seem to be in violation of federal law in two ways.

Some are removing voters from the rolls within 90 days of a federal election, which is not allowed except when voters die, notify the authorities that they have moved out of state, or have been declared unfit to vote.

People, do you realize that the Dow has lost about 40% of it's value in the last year? I just checked my 401K and it's down $25,000. I came to work today and while I tolled away like a good productive American worker, I LOST $3,000. This is serious.

And I just don't think John "My wife is worth $100 million" McCain gets it. I'll vote for the guy with one house, one car and who just paid off his student loans recently. I gotta think he feels the hurt a little more like I do.

Bravado in Boston   October 9th, 2008 7:09 pm ET

This is great. He needs to tell the closed-minded, fool-hearty, voters who have only three teeth and a fat butt, that

a) He is not Muslim, but respects ALL religions (since that is the reason our country was founded)

b) He is NOT elitist – having only one house, one wife, one car, unlike the three-wife totin'competitor how married-for-money (is HE the sugar daddy?)

c) He wants WHAT IS BEST for you and me.

Now, educate yourselves, get some dental implants, put down your guns, dress out your moose, carry it back to your wood-fired poo-little-shak, and PAY ATTENTION!

Hillary Democrat is undoubtedly not a Democrat at all and has never been for Hillary. Obama would win by a landslide if only women were voting! For many years the Republicans have outspent the Democrats and now that it is the other way around they are crying foul. The McCain campaign has turned to hatred and racism in a last attempt to win. Hillary supporters would never support a ticket with Palin on it. She is the antithesis to Hillary.

It should not be necessary. It is weird that it might be, This is a clarity such as is not seen in less than 3 generations. I'm currently 2nd in four still living, and the older I get the more I feel in touch with those who went before us. I had ancestors on both sides at Hastings in 1066. And 1776, And 1861. This is another big one.
And it should be a done deal. John McCain was honorable, but has lost it all. Palin should have never been pulled into this world-stage we live on. Barak Obama is the future we all hope will come to be.

Jill   October 9th, 2008 7:07 pm ET

I am simply thrilled that Barack Obama is doing so well in the polls, I am positive he will win this election. My husband and I have had an Obama sign in our front window since January, we have also loved Biden since seeing and hearing from him in the primary debates, and couldn't be happier with Obama's outstanding campaign and his selection of a running mate. Brian and I were very early supporters of Clinton, tentative of course at first until we heard from all of the candidates, and quickly became supporters of Obama believing him to have the best chance at becoming president over the Republicans and also because he represented our beliefs the most closely. Had Hillary Clinton become the Democratic nominee we would have fully supported her and volunteered for her and I hope one day we have another brilliant, strong woman like her run for president and win on record, intelligence and judgment, not that I think it's too late for her to do many more great things for this country. I am proud to be a Democrat this year, with the many wonderful candidates we had to choose from I constantly felt and still feel bad for staunch Republicans, what a sad selection they had to choose from….so bad some of them got excited about the terrible choice of Palin as their VP nominee.

Obscene use of funds at a time when Americans are being savaged by lavish spending and poor judgment in so many economic sectors. I would hope that those who want Clinton in 2012 would vote Democratic this year or there will be nothing for Hillary to govern. A Republican President with a Democratic Congress will get nothing done…just like the last 2 years. Think clearly before you let your disappointment about Clinton this year overwhelm your clear thinking.

As Biden said, folks… this will be the most important election in your lifetime. Choose now which way you want this country to go. It has been too far right for too long. Greatest debt we have ever seen.

Coming November 4, 2008…

Obama's resources are not unlimited. Let's make sure he and Joe Biden have our limited resources to stage a finish to this race which will overwelm the opposition. Don't forget the Democrats running for the House and Senate. With out them in the congress, President Obama will have "holes in his bucket" while he tries to carry our water.

I'll tell you, Obama is aligned with some pretty impressive people, huh? Even guys that like to blow up buildings and stuff. I understand Obama just released a one minute add talking about how he used to go fishing with his grandfather. Just the kind of information I've been looking for. People WAKE UP!!! Anyone who is ignorant and stupid enough to vote for this man is being extremely reckless with your privlege to vote. This is a man that has no experience, started politically in Chicago with honorable men like the Strogers and Ayers, has questionable ties to the Fannie Mae Freddie Mac Scandal, changes his mind everyday, doesn't stand for anything, AND has never initiated ANYTHING during his time in the Senate. He stands for change??

Hey Houston: What is so good about small government? That's what got us into the mess we're in now–the false belief that government intervention is bad for the economy. Now because of our screw-ups, my tax dollars are being spent to bail out wall street–but not me or my family. I'm 41 and my retirement plan is in the tank. By the time I'm 65, I won't have retirement OR social security because of the screw-ups of folks like McCain and their generation. It's about time my generation had one of it's own in the office.

And Hillary Democrat–please tell me what more experience Hillary has than Obama? In the senate a couple more years? She is certainly preferable to her husband, but she ran a really dirty campaign

Okay MI girl, here's a post about the proposal. If Obama can use that time to illustrate, simply and effectively, his economic and energy plans, and to show how all his proposals relate together, a la Ross Perot, then it will be a terrific use of his time. If he takes 30 minutes to rehash his speeches and attacks, then it will be a terrible idea and could cost him the election.

Considering the campaign he has run so far, I would bet on the former, if I had any money left… :-)

BARRING THE NEW REVELATIONS OF VOTER FRAUD ALREADY OCCURING IN SOME STATES …NEVADA FOR EXAMPLE WHERE,
THE FBI HAS GOTTEN HOLD OF MULTIPLE VOTING PAPERS/REGISTRATIONS BY ONE PERSON MAKING THAT PERSON TO VOTE TEN TIMES . THAT SAME PERSON HAD MULTIPLE ADDRESSES AND SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS.
THE ANOMALY IS UNDER INVESTIGATION AND ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND THE ORGANIZATION " ACORN" IS BEING INVESTIGATED AS A SOURCE . IF TRUE , AND IF FOUND TO BE NATIONWIDE, IT WILL CREATE THE BIGGEST CHAOS IN OUR

What a brilliant move by the Obama campaign to purchase air time. Always steps ahead of McCain. Obama is brilliant, cool and remains focused on the issues – a true statesman. McCain is a mean spirited failure of a politician. An angry old man who has lost control. It is definitely reflected in his campaign rallies. These rallies have morphed into angry mobs screaming insults, racial slurs. It would not shock me to see a cross burning there!

Lyle   October 9th, 2008 6:55 pm ET

It is one thing to mislead the American public in a debate or media sound-bites, but it is quite another for Mr. Obama to stretch his machinations and fabrications into a thirty minute info-mercial. If Mr. Obama and his campaign wish to continue his media free-ride, less exposure is probably the key. We have heard it all before and this sort of egotistical spectacle will only make him look even more cartoonish. He thinks very highly of himself, doesn’t he.

Sorry to inform them, but we ARE NOT going back to the days of Jim Crow of the segregated south! So get over it , grow up, or get gone! As a young African-American male, I have not seen or experience much racism directly. But, that doesn't mean that I have seen some of it. I absolutely refuse to go through the racial mess that my parents or grandparents went through. I shouldn’t have to! Our generation is one that is trying to get past all of the ugly things from our past in America. This ugly past is shared by whites, blacks, brown, and every one in between. Whites and Blacks are now standing hand in hand to resolve our issues of race that have plagued this country. Barack Obama has given, not just Blacks, but ALL people the hope that we need in order to press forward from the days of old here in America. The racism and bigotry has got to stop. The fact that there are people who will not vote for a black man just because of his skin color is not a reflection of America, but a reflection on THAT PERSON'S IGNORANCE and HATRED. Believe it or not, the old generation that continues to think in these negative ways, along with continuing to breed this negativity in the current generation, are slowly and surely dieing off and leaving this world. God will no longer stand for it. The American people as a whole will no longer stand for it! Barack Obama gives SO many people hope. Just listen to the songs that many artists and stars have written about him. They are inspiring and heart felt. Do you hear any beautiful, inspirational songs about John McCain? No! You hear this country-sounding, “Raisin' McCain” garbage that, even in its delivery, has a negative tone. So, to the racist whites AND blacks AND brown folk out there, you are going to have to get over it. Barack Obama WILL BE our next president of the United States. The good-ol-boy mentality and its regime that has been primarily dominated by the older whites is DEAD. News to the older generation of racist (white) folks: YOU DON'T OWN AMERICA ANY MORE! And for the ones that continue to harp on Obama's name, if you read your CHRISTIAN bible (as many of them claim to be Christians yet they hate their own brother and sister of different races) they would know that the word BARACK means PRAISE!!! The name literally means PRAISE! Praise to God. Praise to the God of our nation and the God of the World, the father of Jesus Christ! So, as you read this, yes there may be some typos…if that's all you can find, then the point has gone over your head and you REFUSE to change or become enlightened by your own choice. However, if you continue to refuse, you will surely get LEFT BEHIND as the rest of us in America will continue to move forward with a leader who gives us hope, who has vision, and who has been ordained and chosen by God for such a time as this. And to bash this post FURTHER displays your ignorance…and every tongue that rises up against the truth shall be condemned. Don't believe it? Go read the book. My love is for EVERY person. We share a commonality that stretches past us being Americans. We are human beings. We are God’s children. Barack Obama…THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! Has a great ring to it!

Cynthia - Arkansas   October 9th, 2008 6:55 pm ET

I hear some really dumb remarks made here in Arkansas. "They just haven't heard enough from either of them". It's only been 19 months! Anyway, I watched Obama's TV time and it's great. Obama has used his resources wisely. Just like he will lead this country! I have given more to this campaign, than all the others combined. This is the most important elections every held. If McShame get in the White House, there will be nothing left of this country. He want to cut social security and medicare/medicaid. These people don't have enough to even buy proper food of medicine. SHAME ON HIM! He doesn't have a clue how the real people live in this country. It is just too scary to imagine.

PLEASE HELP SAVE THE COUNTRY! VOTE OBAMA/ BIDEN- (The smart ones)

Hurricane Shirley   October 9th, 2008 6:55 pm ET

Very good idea to purchase the air time. I don't know how long his campaign has had this planned, but it's a good follow-up to the fear/smear tactics his opponents have employed recently.

Lance   October 9th, 2008 6:55 pm ET

Cool! Is he going to spill the beans about how he wrote a paper in law school arguing that whitey should pay reparations to blacks? Or how his mentor Jeremiah Wright is an anti-semite? Or how he frequently chummed around with Rashid Khalidi, a devout anti-semite?

I like black folks, but not radical ones who hate whitey.

DIRTY MONEY–ILLEGAL CONTRIBUTIONS–VOTER FRAUD–WHY??

David, Silver Spring, MD   October 9th, 2008 6:54 pm ET

While McCain is grousing about earmarks like Captain Queeg going on about missing strawberries–

while George W. Bush, the MBA President, is hiding under his desk and wondering how he can get a golden parachute and land back on his ranch in Crawford–

while even Grover Norquist and Dick Cheney are thinking maybe the country wouldn't be in such a mess if they'd paid some taxes and invested in the country instead of trying to hoard it all for themselves and their families–

Barack Obama, instead of resting on his lead, shows the courage to step forward and face the American people in these difficult times.

Rather Presidential, don't you think?

Obama turns down campaign financing so that Hollywood can fund his campaign. The country is in a financial crisis and he chooses to waste money on TV airtime. How can people view this as a positive move. It shows, in my opinion, a mismanagement of funds and hopefully the American public will see through it. Obama is all about grandstanding and being the center of attention. I truly feel sorry for all the people voting for Obama simply because they think he will be able to enact all of his programs next year. Please wake up from your instant gratification fantasy soon. There will be no tax cuts next year.

I am so proud of Barack Hussenin Obama. I say his middle name out respect for a man who had no choice in his name or color. He has ran the most well organized campagin. A campgain that can stick to the issues and win the poeple's heart. John McCain is running the sleaziest campagin I've seen. He claims to be a war hero but when I look at him, all I see is a coward. A coward who can't look a man in the eyes and tell him to his face what he REALLY thinks about him. A coward who would hide behind a womens skirt too do his dirty work. A coward whose second wife has shown no better JUDGEMENT during this election, than he did by leaving his first wife for her. I do not believe that John McCain thinks that Barack is a terrorist. I think that the people running his campgain has convinced him that that is what it takes to win. The fact that he can't take control of his own campgain makes him the biggest COWARD of all.

I think that is a brilliant move. To be able to spend 30 minutes with the american public without a 1 or 2 minute time limit is exactly what the campaign needs to do. He can explain himself on every subject without Mccain snickering in the background. Obama wants to be president and that's the difference.

Fact Check about McCain: He really needs to be evaluated by a Psychiatrist. I saw him on tv last night during one of his campaign rally and remember he like to say " To my fellow Americans" instead he said "To my fellow PRISONERS". FLASHBACKS IN VIETNAM. As a Gulf War Veteran myself, I can see that McCain clearly suffers from PTSD! thus resulting to his ERRATIC BEHAVIOR, changing his mind quickly without even thinking or forgetting the things he just said(sign of DEMENTIA). Does his own party notice that! PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP HIM? He's 72 years old and I really feel SORRY for him.

I think it is important to those who are not sure of who Obama is. If those voters are unsure of Obama when they go to the voting booth, they'll either vote for McCain or a 3rd party. I don't think it matters if Fox carries his 30 minute spot, since Fox news fans are predominantly conservatives.

Daniel   October 9th, 2008 6:47 pm ET

I think this might hurt him. If this happens during game 6 of the world series he might not get people to watch. Also 30 minutes will cause some people will just turn it off. Also 30 minutes can allow people to think about what he is saying and that could be bad for him.

Jose   October 9th, 2008 6:45 pm ET

I find this very energizing. I have never seen a major candidate purchase such a large block of time. I'm excited and anxious to see how it will be used.

I think this is a good move. Regardless of what happens between now and then, if Obama can get on TV a few nights before the election and just talk to America, it will allow everyone to see him. I also think it shows that he wants to be transparent. I hope Obama becomes a president who regularly addresses the nation to keep the citizens up to date on information, not just one who addresses the nation for bad news.

The only thing will be that the day of these block we will see some wild things coming from the McCain campaign. Which will only play negatively I think. So this is win win for Obama.

Eleanor   October 9th, 2008 6:45 pm ET

Too bad McCain and Palin were not this democratic
I hope that McCain and Palin realize they need to step up and be *leaders* and denounce this anger in the crowds instigated the last few days by Palin and continuing today and then the media plays it up too!!
Need I remind people we are talking about a black man here
who could easily be targeted by some kook out there
this is a beautiful family we are talking about here
Like michelle Obama said last night people can disagree without being disagreeable and bitter
They both need to grow up and denounce this anger
All it takes is one angry person to get a crowd riled up
I seen that in Ed Henrys piece on the situation room

Janine   October 9th, 2008 6:45 pm ET

I think this is great. It gives a chance for people that don't know much about him and are still shaky to genuinely find out more about who he is.

Laidetea   October 9th, 2008 6:45 pm ET

Texas for Obama   October 9th, 2008 6:43 pm ET

I support Obama big time, but I am afraid that McCain and the GOP will do three things in response to this.

1. They will say its a shame that Obama has unlimited money to buy
the presidency.
2. They will have a fundraiser to combat what Obama is trying to do.
3. After raising enough money, the GOP will do the same thing and
say they had "no choice."

I think this idea is both brilliant and risky.

A great leader comes around every ten to twenty years. Obama is the next Great World Leader. WOW!!!!!!!!!!1

Seriously   October 9th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

Seriously, he will probably be President, does he really need to waste the money for air time when he could use the money to help the people in need in this economic crisis. One best move he could make is donate his campaign money fund-raised… to the people in need instead of wasting it on ad-time where most people don't really actually watch ads, especially political ads on tv.

Hillary Democrat does not honor either of the names she/he claims. Neither Hillary or any real Democrat wants to see John McCain and Sarah Palin in the White House. Obama is clearly the best qualified candidate in this race. Obama is presidential, McCain is erratic and unpredictable. Shame on the Greed Over Principle party for nominating this pair of losers.

Anonymous   October 9th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

McCain should never be mentioned in those 30 mn. I mean it. Ignore Mc. and concentrate it on Policy, practical application, and have the experts come in and do the explaining, with Obama and his crew.

Wow. If you ever needed proof of Obama's leadership capabilities, just look at this phenominal campaign he has run. It defeated the Clinton political machine that hadn't been defeated since 1980 (and not by a fellow Democrat since 1976) and now he's used that to make Virginia, Indiana and North Carolina into swing states. His abilities in executive management are unprecedented for a presidential candidate.

Sieg Heil, Sarah.

Listen Up...   October 9th, 2008 6:34 pm ET

I heard a woman on the radio today talking about how she was accosted by a McCain supporter the ugliest way because she had on an Obama T-shirt. This white man attacked a white woman in a way that she feared for her life…over her freedom to express her political expression. The democratic primary was heated, but not to this temperature. McCain is playing the the lowbrow crowd and telling them it is OK to hate and fear this man not because of his policies (that can change), but things that can't change like his skin, name and blood line. McCain is UNWORTHY.

This is the effect of the McCain/Palin dirty war. Someone is going to get hurt and if they do I hope the victims of this war sue the pants off that campaign for inciting violence. The media needs raise their voices about this before it is too late.

Luke   October 9th, 2008 6:34 pm ET

Until now I was terrified that the McCain campaign would find some way to win. But their desperate tactics in the last week, the muckraking, borderline xenophobia and racism have convinced me that the campaign is self-destructing. I'm calling this one. Barack Obama is our next president, unless people really are as stupid as McCain thinks they are.

spent 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with 750,000

Let it go idiot, you obviously will NEVER let it go that Hillary LOST and that there is nothing that can be done to change that fact. Telling you to stop being so narrowminded is useless as you do not want to open your mind to what your COUNTRY needs over what YOU want. I trust Obama over McCain and your ignorance is just what got this country into the mess we are in this very day. As far as "McCain now and Hillary in 2012″, you narrowmindedness shows again. Do you HONESTLY think that things would really work out that way? That If McStain gets elected now that Hillary actually has a chance in Hell in 2012 without Obama's supporters? Do you truly think she can win without US? She CANNOT win with only 18 million voters, she would need US as well. You are truly closeminded and need serious mental help.

We NEED CHANGE, we need to STOP LIVING IN THE PAST and WE need a President who is calm and steadfast and who isn't ERATIC like John McCain lurching from one position to the next but never consistent on any one issues.

I've lost count of how many times John McCain has changed positions in the last 20 months. I mean, it's mind boggling. AND this is who Republican want leading them? Mr. Jigzaw puzzle??

I hope that the polls that show Obama gaining and winning are correct and hold to be true. It could very well be that “the Bradley Effect” comes in to play and Obama loses to McCain. The American people deserve better than having an old desperate, bitter, hateful, spiteful man and his Viper VP to win.

To the Hillary Democrat, Excuses, Excuses think about the country . Republicans are the reason for this season. I had so much respect for Sen McCain before this phase of the election. He has turned unto someone who certainly does not deserve to be president. He is only using Gov Palin to get votes from people like you. Let's put race, gender aside and open our eyes to the fact that we cannot go back in the direction we have been going for the past 8 years. We need change. Not change that the Mccain/Palin ticket speak about. Their campaign just started the CHANGE THEME recently. He puts the campaign first, poor people struggling, and promoting hate is not a person who puts country first. Just think about it for once.

In a month is campaign will be over. One of these two men will go back to the senate, and the other will be president. His job isto fix this mess of a country.

Sen Obama and Sen Biden will do the country good. At least they won't be spreading hate and fear.

You stand your ground Mr.Obama we know you speak the truth,Mccain has lied over & over again when you call the american people your american prisoners & then don't realize what you have just said what a crock who would want this man for President when he doesn't know what he is saying this is very scary and neither does his paper doll wife, she even has her information wrong said obama voted against the troops in Iraq no it was her husband that did that-now she needs to go get one of her beers and cry because this election for her husband and palin is over-she too needs to get educated on foreign policies before she speaks or accuse anyone of not knowning anything unlike herself she too is not worthy of any place in office even her Alaskians people don't care for her-so what do that tell you,GO OBAMA FOR 2008-& I will be at his INAUGURATION. This is a man of knowledge and for us american people to survive for it's been 8 long depressing years of these mccain politics that has not worked for us-so now we have a man who will support us american citizens who cares who has been walking in our shoes who knows what it is to be poor and afraid-MR.OBAMA has done this and that is why we American people has to get him in the chair-as far as mccain saying "that one" yes that one is for the people not mccain,so lets go people and vote"OBAMA"

For all of you shouting "experience" ad nauseum- have you ever had a boss with 20, 30 years in your field? Someone who pretty much sat in an office and played solitaire while all of his/her employees did everything? Someone with a big title and big salary because all of their experience- yet you wouldn't trust them to water your houseplants?
Experience isn't the only factor. Judgement, vision, clarity, diplomacy, ability to work with others- Barack Obama has so much more of these things than unraveling McCain. Think about it.

Any need for this again; Americans have realised that McCain's age cannot make him do the right thing; his eratic behavior like that of a teenager won't give chance for right judgements……Please quickly retire this man (McCain) from the senate.

Have you seen his plan? Can you put aside the rankor long enough to LISTEN?
By the way, the Senator has authored 131 pieces of legislation in his few years in the Senate. He has crossed the isle with the likes of Tom Coburn of Oklahoma and Dick Luger to co-sponsor bills.
I have donated to him and I am no millionaire. Give the man a chance.

I notice alot of you are saying McCain 08 and Hillary 12, think about it for a secon though. McCain's mother is in her 90's so McCain could easily run and stay president from 08-16

Oh yeah one other thing, alot of VP's ran after the presidents term was up. Sarah Palin might run in 2016 and win? Ever think of that? Than in 2020 she can run and WIN again? Till 2024, Hillary will be in her 80's or 90's by then.

McCain 2008-2016!

If I am to believe his talk, then they will soon be going to jail with the rest of the corporate crooks. Obama supports terrorist, that is important, especially as he continues to lie about their relationship. Obama needs those 30 min. McCain and his sidekick are throwing mud everywhere. They say they are asking for explanations. Fact have been checked, explanations have been given but apparently it's not only Palin that can't read. This is getting ugly from a supposedly wise man, who is certainly old enough not to be so amgry and desperate. Obama unfortunately will have to repeat his answers to those unimportant issues. They're even ressurecting Rev. Wright. What about the republican priest who are defying law and instructing their parishioners to vote for McCain? What about Keating? What about all those rabid acquaintances of McCain's? What about Senators Jesse Helms, Strom Thurmond and Robert Byrd? The list is long… McCain has a lot to explain. He keeps harping on Ayers… Ayers messed up, 40 years ago. These days he is an outstanding citizen. He was was named the Citizen of the Year in Chicago in 1987 for his education work, and is now a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Here are a few things that makes a great leader:

Being intelliegent, with good judgement & common sense
Asking others to help out with their expertise
Realizing no man stands alone (work with others)
Accepting that you alone cannot solve all problems
Caring for and really understanding basie human needs
Knowing how to mobilze from athe bottom up

Annie, Atlanta   October 9th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

@Hillary Democrat. Do you honestly expect us to believe you are a democrat in support of John McCain. That's not possible, unless you love what he and Palin have been doing this week, presiding over hate rallies, stirring up some very disturbing emotions. That goes against the very definition of a democrat. Google it.

Eleanor   October 9th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

LA Ben   October 9th, 2008 6:18 pm ET

Pleeeease say it ain't so. We need to just stay the course until election day – why take such a gamble?

The majority of voters will probably be turned off and perceive the program as self-absorbed. If it's poorly received, there's only five days until the election to combat the bad press and move on to something else.

As an avid Obama supporter, I'm deeply concerned.

Tells how he feels and what and why he wants to do about things in America.

MI girl   October 9th, 2008 6:17 pm ET

Smart campaign. Smart use of dollars and technology. Senator Obama has great ideas and is open to new, creative options. It's what America needs and we need to get away from past ideas and blunders and move on. I'll be watching with interest.

It sure would be nice if bloggers would leave a comment on why this might or might not be a good idea…instead of using it as an opportunity to slam someone – whether it is the Republican side or Democratic. Let's talk about the proposal!

I imagine his address on the Fox channel to start something like this:

"I appear on this particular network tonite to talk to my fellow Americans that are stuck in Dumbf-kistan. Most of you have ardently supported the current [R] disaster-in-charge for the past two presidential elections, and you are now tempted to follow the [R]ightwing demagoguery you grew up on and blindly vote for John McCain in the upcoming election. Mr. McCain is hoping that you are dumber than asphault and will look at the dreadful failure of the past 8 years and join him in calling it a 'success',…..join him in continuing that 'success' as America's economic life, scientific life, cultural life are returned to the Dark Ages when true conservatives happily roamed the landscape, free to kill who and what they chose. Admittedly, it is a grand vision for those of you that can't think your way out of a paper bag, those of you that rely on the mindless pundits that appear on this network for your ideas.

But returning to reality, returning to the 21st century and the grand dream our forefathers bequeathed to us…………."

Now, I might actually turn my TV channel to the Fox network to hear that speech!

I hope that he spends part of it telling voters, particularly new voters and people of color about their voting rights.

The right-wing is already trying to suppress voter turn-out, and it will only get worse over the course of the next three weeks.

My darkest fear is that when they suffer the final defeat, the Republicans will try to use their Federal law enforcement authority to defeat the will of the voters.

A Woman In California For Obama:   October 9th, 2008 6:15 pm ET

I've been busy lately and I haven't gotten a chance to comment on a few tickers:

First of all Obama supporters Listen: this year we have a lot of republican support. Each day I see many of you are calling the republicans lots of names. This is NOT smart. I understand your feelings but I think you should scale back on the name calling. To call the McCain's and Palin's names are one thing (I agree) but calling people names who are actually voting WITH us this year is another. Please think about it. Do you want them calling ALL democrats stupid, etc. WE want and appreciate their support. (I do). Please let's keep it only about the McCain's and the Palin's. There is sure plenty to say about these criminals.

Ticker on Cindy McCain: She is one of the MAIN reasons "John" won't go anywhere. Listen to Ms. "home wrecker" calling out someone for being dirty. I personally do not want to look at someone for the next four years who wears $300,000 outfits for a couple of hours and suggests "she knows what we are going through." She is disgusting in every way imaginable and I hope Obama attacks her credibility right back as I'm sure she doesn't want her dirt to come out the closet. It's plenty there. Mrs. Cocaine. Obama is EVERYTHING McCain wishes he could be except of course, the obvious. It's not Obama's fault you CAN'T win the presidency and that you cheated and lied all your adult life. I'm sure McCain's last words will be "Senator Obama." He is obsessed with Obama. Watch out McCain-hatred can be an awful thing-especially at your age. Bottom line: McCain is ready, willing and UNable to do the job.

Present ticker: Obama keep up the good work. Hopefully, it will all pay off.

John O   October 9th, 2008 6:15 pm ET

This is great. Obama needs to be more on the offensive. I agree with peggy, I think Obama has a better campaign machine on the ground, better organized and consistent. Obama has not once detracted from his overall stragedy and message, while Hillary Clinton adn John McCain have both changed their campaign slogans many times, but has fallen short.
The fact that Obama has remained a cool customer through out this economic issues shows he can be a true leader under fire…he has my vote.

Democrats: Want to make sure the McCain/Palin nightmare goes away? Vote. Make sure you go to the polls or vote absentee. But vote. Registered Democrats by far outnumber registered Republicans. So make sure you vote, and make sure you get your friends to vote. If they haven't registered, and there's still time, then get them to register and then get them to vote. Offer to drive them. Hold an election day party and bring a crowd of friends to the polls with you. This is especially true for you high school and college Democrats. Don't blow this off. Your future is at stake…

Why hasn't someone picked up on McCain's comment that he aimed at Obama in the second debate: "this is no time for on-the-job training" ? Surely that is a solid point that Obama could throw back at McCain in the next debate, as it applies much more to Palin than to Obama.

Great idea! I wish he woudl spend the time perhaps with the help of Warren Buffet explaining to the American people exactly why our economic structure is collapsing. Most people do not understand. True we are all angry and feeling betrayed. Hanging all the investment bankers and hedge fund managers is not the solution. We also need a full understanding of the $700 billion rescue package. In addition why is it necessary for the government to OWN the banks? Why is it necessary to have both plans in the works? This seems excessive to me. Thank you.

As an Bi-racial American….Obama is what the country and the world needs. He will restore our standing in the world, for the world will look at us and that we have a leader that TRUELY REPRESENTS what we are about….DIVERSITY. The statute of liberty, and Elise Island are signs of the "olden-days," OBAMA will be what we are today. A Nation that is one….THE UNITED STATES of AMERICA.

Vote OBAMA/BIDEN '08

Mark   October 9th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

McSame has proven one thing. He knows nothing about economic issues. One moment he claims that the economy is strong. Then he panics and suspends his campaign for about 24 hours, rushing back to Washington so he can impede efforts to address the economic crisis. Now he unveils a half-baked scheme to pump incalculable billions into the failing banks.

McSame lacks the steady hand and good judgment that we need in the Presidency. America will choose a team that has good judgment and will be able to steer our economy out of the Bush-McSame disaster. America will choose Obama-Biden.

DEM   October 9th, 2008 6:10 pm ET

Great idea! Way too many people are telling me that "they just don't know anything about Obama" Which is when I ask them if they expect the info to just materialize on their kitchen table? Go home to Chicago and be a community organizer…we need experience now in these uncertain times not a smooth talker. We can not trust Obama….. McCain now and Hillary in 2012

Joe   October 9th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

If he talks to us as americans with ideas and a steady hand showing leadership like FDR's fireside chats, and not talk down to us, I think this can only be a plus. Hopefully McCain doesn't buy 30 minutes and talk about nothing but how scary Obama is.

Nando, Florida   October 9th, 2008 6:09 pm ET

Obama is the best thing that has happen to the Democratic Party in over 50yrs .

Phil   October 9th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

Money can buy you anything, when you have hollywood millionares throwing charity events for your campaign. This is a career achievement, not a concern for country. And his time in senate has shown that. All of a sudden the Senator wants to change the nation. He made the same promises when running for senate, yet his record shows no accomplishements then, and if voted to be President wont show anything after either.

Chris   October 9th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

And thus, the final nail in McCain Campaign Coffin is driven.

realistic   October 9th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

30 minutes is a LONG time to talk to us. I hope he has some visual aids to help solidify what his tax plans and health care plans actually look like compared to McCain's. I'm a visual learner, so I know others must be as well, and it would be helpful to see a side-by-side comparison of where the two stand. And if Obama could let us know who his economic team will be should be elected, I think people who "doubt his experience" would find that comforting. This will be interesting . . .

Dem for Unity   October 9th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

I think the more information the better. They are a smart campaign and love the job they are doing. Just as long as it is informative I think it will do no harm. Nicely done Obama campaign!

David   October 9th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

I look forward to watching these spots.

Go Obama! Bring peace, comfort and prosperity to the nation and spread it to the rest of the world.

We need you as President to clean up George Bush's mess because John McCain would just sweep it under the carpet and keep it hidden from the American people.

No, I'm not drinking Obama's Kool Aid. I am an intelligent person looking at the issues and the facts knowing full well that Obama is no way perfect but John McCain is too out of touch with the issues facing America today!

Pushing for Change   October 9th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

It will be interesting to know what happens if Obama's message is aired on Fox…wonder how many of Fox's viewers will change the channel in disgust.

Zach, Independent/California   October 9th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

McCain is already screwed over electorally. Just look at the map. Start with Bush-Kerry 286-252. Obama has Iowa +7 and New Mexico +5. The he just has to win ONE out of Nevada (5), Colorado (9), Indiana (11), Ohio (20), Missouri (11), Virginia (13), North Carolina (15), and of course Florida (27). He only needs ONE, and he's polling ahead in most if not all of them.

BMartin, Duluth, MN   October 9th, 2008 6:08 pm ET

I think this is a smart move After all the hate rhetoric coming out of the McCain/Palin campaign, we need Barack Obama to talk to the poeple and calm them down. I am 75 and have never experienced such a divisive campaign, and particularly with so many new young voters coming on board. We should be ashamed as Americans for the vitriol being expressed and fed by the media,

Hannah Stevens   October 9th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

What an incredible campaign. Obama just shows every day that he is ready now to be our next President and I can't wait. What a relief it will be to get the neocon thugs out fo the WH.

Coop182   October 9th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

Methinks Obama's got something to say about his plans on the economy, energy, foreign policy, domestic policy and the like, uninterrupted and fireside-chat like.

I'd also guess that he's got the goods on McCain and Palin, and he may or may not choose to turn them both into roadkill.

Here's your October Surprise, America – McCrook and Caribou Barbie are officially toast, and no amount of spin by Tucker Bounds will save the GOP.

Smart move from the Obama campaign….. I hope he uses the that time wisely, I hope he talks about his policies and what we can hope for under his presidency and not waste the time talking about John Mccain or George Bush. I believe Obama will be a great president and he is capable of getting us out of this mess we in. He doesn't act like he knows it all but instead he seeks from people who does know before he reacts unlike John Mccain hotheaded.

How ironic 105 percent sign up in Indianapolis, which that is fraud right there. 5000 fraud applications in Lake County Today. And then today it came out about his connections to Kladi(mis-spelled),(Arafat Plo) Obama said I do know and that he says someone I know, He had a fund raiser for him. What are these connections to Obama, corrupted people, Ayers, Dohrn, Rezko, and Auchi and Wright. These are his friends. I am a democrat and with friends like that no vote for me. If mom or brothers or sister or dad or friend had these people for friends would it not bother you at all. wouldn't you have your doubts.

My fellow Americans, get ready. We are finally going to have a leader who is articulate, intelligent, organized, diplomatic, respectful, logical. We are welcoming in a brand new era; one in which we can redirect our common goals as a nation. I'm so proud to have the opportunity to vote for Barack Obama. He will offer us all a stake in our nation's future. We can all become empowered again. With a great leader, and stong work ethic, we can bring our nation back to the forefront in the global economy. I, for one, cannot wait to hear what he has to say in this 30min network broadcast. I am looking forward to his first address to our country. Bush's speeches are so cringe-worthy. The guy can't even speak English, let alone string together a logical thought. Obama is the leader we DESERVE.

Yes! Sounds like another major speech. I have been studying Abraham Lincoln lately, and this guy reminds me so much of him!

Check out some of the similarities between Barack Obama and Abraham Lincoln, and you will see – no wonder the Senator from Illinois announced his underdog candidacy from Springfield.

Obama's sense of history and OUR place in it is truly inspirational.

After the hate smear level attacks from the WHOLE McSame camp, it will be refreshing to see Obama hammer home the issues that matter to the American People. This man and his campaign are SO brilliant!! I'm so impressed with Obama, especially because he has said since the beginning that he was going to run a smart, HONEST campaign and so far, he has. A man with integrity. McCain started off being a real good man, a man with morals and values but somehow, he has lost all that was good. I blame it on the lure of power. Poor man.

It's great strategy from perhaps the smartest presidential campaign team we may have ever seen. Much smarter by the way than Karl Rove, who simply resorted to sleaze to get 50.1 percent of the vote. That kind of strategy really doesn't require much smarts–just a great deal of moral bankruptcy.

McSame wants to give these Corporate Crooks, 300 Billion more tax dollars to cover their loses caused from their own greed and avarice.
And what did these Corporate scum do with the last Bail Out tax dollars. A bunch of them flew to a Luxury Resort and blew 400 Thousand Dollars to include 23 Thousand Dollars in Manicures.
This is McInsane!!! Enough America !!! Please Enough!!

outstanding. in that one half hour, he will have his own town hall meeting, a unique opportunity for people at the last minute to hear his voice and see his presence. And it will be a great reminder to all of us that we need to get out and vote. Plus, he can address all of McCain's negative nonsense.

Very aggressive stuff!

Lifelong Republican for Obama, Columbia, TN   October 9th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

Good move!

Charlotte   October 9th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

This will be a great opportunity for him to not only make a reasoned statement about whatever the situation is closer to the election (it seems to be changing on a daily basis, mostly for the worse as far as the economy is concerned) but also to address logically and thoughtfully whatever last-minute Swift-boating gets pulled out of the GOP (or 527s) hats in a last ditch, desperate attempt to smear Obama and swing any as-yet-undecided voters. Very, very smart. This should be far more effective than whatever defense can be mustered in a one-minute debate rebuttal. I don't think Obama has been very good at defending himself or his record when he's attacked in the debates – partly because a nuanced answer requires more time than he is given. Most viewers seem able to recognize this, and everybody knows about factcheck.com now, so it doesn't seem to have hurt him much. I wonder, though, whether anyone truly against him will bother to watch the half-hour spot. On the other hand, it doesn't really matter because they've already made up their minds.

I love this idea. It gives him the chance to connect to voters late in the game. He just needs to use it wisely.

two cents from an independent voter   October 9th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

Awesome.

It is refreshing to see a candidate willing to connect with people. Obama appeals to our desire to evolve as Americans; to move past racism to reconciliation and trade selfish individualism for a culture of interdependence with individual accountability.

I think we are better people than John McCain gives us credit for being. He appeals to what makes us afraid and ashamed, but that is the legacy of our parents. We have learned some things, among them that prejudice and fear-mongering diminish us as a nation.

I don't believe McCain is a racist, but I do believe he is willing to capitalize on race-based fear in others. He doesn't deserve to serve as President of these UNITED States if he is willing to divide the country to get there.

I think the half-hour of network television is money well spent. I think it will settle once and for all that Obama is a leader interested in leading, as opposed to a politician interested in getting elected to an office.

It is a courageous move.

Georgia Peach   October 9th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

I pray Obama will be safe, we need him to lead us! Palin & McCain should hang their heads in disgrace for the dirty disgusting and dangerous tactics and slander that they have been throwing. Even IF they would win, the have lost the respect of many.

Marion   October 9th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

The problem for McCain and Palin, I think, is that they either can't or won't discuss the economy in any meaningful way, and that's what people want to hear about. On the other hand, they're fixating on trying to paint Obama as risky at best and a terrorist at worst. Not only is that not addressing the issue that's on the minds of many Americans, but it's bringing out people with some truly hateful attitudes, and neither McCain or Palin are doing anything to distance themselves from these folks.

If you want to see what I'm talking about, watch this video made by a blogger interviewing people at a McCain rally in Ohio.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjxzmaXAg9E

While I don't think that a majority of McCain supporters hold these views, these people who are calling Obama a terrorist are growing more vocal, and they aren't doing McCain any favors.

you people need help, according to Obamas tax plan small business making 250k a year are going to be hit with higher taxes.. That means almost every small business that has employees will get hit! YES what is 250k a year when your in business. Subtract all your expenses, payroll, employees, taxes etc etc if your business doesn't bring in 250k a year than consider yourself out of business!! Wake up do you have a clue as to what that will do to our economy?? Taxing all investmet capital, capital gains taxes, Do you smart people have any idea what that will do to investment income, investment capital for all businesses. You Obama supporters think that by getting your measly 1000 tax rebate a year will help the economy better wake up, go to school, learn something about how the economy works!!

30 minutes. Not short sound bites, but time for a major address on a wide range of issues … kind of like a short "State of the Union" address without interruptions for supporters' applause, moderators' attempts to redirect discussion, or opponents' attempts to distract.

It's a big gamble with a public whose attention span rarely lasts more than 30 seconds. It takes guts. I hope it turns out to have been a good idea.

I will be making another campaign donation tonight, it's been tough to give the max allowed but I consider it money well spent. Barack Obama has run a skillful and dignified campaign for 19 months despite the slings and arrows. I have no doubt he will run the country the same way.

If I were a Mccain supporter I would be demanding a refund.

mccain is the wizard of oz   October 9th, 2008 5:58 pm ET

excellent! i was hoping he would do this. he will have the chance to speak to the american people in a sustained format that allows him to spell out who he is and where he wants to take the country. this is in contrast to mccain strategy that seems to be trying to produced as many decietful and false sound bites as possible and say them often enough so that people don't pay attention to the man behind the curtain.

Barack is talking issues while McCain and co. are firing blanks that didnt work 9 months ago, and definitely wont work now.

I think American appreciate straight talk about policy decisions in a 90 second ad, with specific details, more than black and white scare mongering about someone's character. Because thats all the GOP are doing at this point.

Hollywood must truly be embracing this. Will I be able to do a search for it on my cable box menu? What will it be under–sitcom, docudrama, news, variety, reality?

To everyone who has contributed to either campaign…aren't you proud of where your hard earned money is being spent? Remember that when you can't make a bill payment or buy food for your family. But, then again, you will probably find a way to blame someone else for it.

Yes, I'm afraid of McCain being president, and I'm even more afraid of it now that I realize I'm afraid of it. Because not much scares me!

I heard they crossed a pitbull with a Sarah Palin. Turns out that it bites you, leaving you with a nasty lipstick stain (fortunately no blood) and then runs for help. If it really gets psychotic, it shoots you from a helicopter. Not to worry though, it seldomly leaves it's house.

I not only expect, but hope that McCain will copy this move by Obama. I believe at the last debate, both candidates displayed a lack of knowledge on the others position on various issues and even though I find the McCain campaign to be endorsing a hateful social policy at their most recent rallies…I still want to give him a chance. Believe me, that is all that he's getting from me. He most certainily will not have my support or my precious vote

CMJ   October 9th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

McCain is an angry, volitile old man who suffers from EED (Enlarged Ego Disease) He is a man who called the North Vietnamese "Gooks" up until just a few years ago. He backhanded a woman (a relative of a missing soldier in Vietnam) and was written up on charges for it. He is a gambler in every sense of the word. Not to be trusted.

Deb, Allentown,PA   October 9th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

I hope he takes that time to talk about who he intends to ask to be in his cabinet.

He'll pick Dems, moral Republicans (obviously that leaves out McCain and Palin) and independents. He has proven that he surrounds himself with the best and brightest, and I'd love to see him do this in advance of the election. Can you imagine how many more independents and Republicans he could win over with intelligent, reasonable cabinet picks??

THE DEMOCRATS ARE GOING TO GIVE UP THE 'GOODS' ON JOHN MCCAIN AND THE GOP!

Keith in VA Beach   October 9th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

Im still waiting for the reverend wright ad. Americans have heard all the smears on Obama before, they have nothing new. President Obama only a couple weeks left. Tough it out!

Independent..found what I was looking for   October 9th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

This is great. Very smart thing to do. Now if only those people who keep complaining about not knowing him or believes the dirty politic of McCain/Palin will watch they will see who Senator Obama is.

don   October 9th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

How much money did Obama raise in September if he can afford a 30 minute national media buy?

Arden   October 9th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

What an awesome idea. Everytime I think the other side is moving ahead in anything, you people come through. God Bless you and by the way KUDOS to Mr. Gibbs. I love it when someone can stick the screws to Sean Hannity. When John McCain reaches the gates of hell and finds BinLaden, Sean Hannity should go with him.

Lori from MO   October 9th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

I bet McCain wishes he would've left the old money raising political machine behind and depended on Mainstreet Americans to fund him like Obama did. This is great. Take that Washington Republican machine!

Obama/Biden '08!

Crazy Cat Lady   October 9th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

Brilliant! Obama will talk directly to the country, not through any media filter, and let the voters see for themselves who he is and what he stands for.

One wonders just how huge his fundraising numbers must be from September, eh?

cmc   October 9th, 2008 5:48 pm ET

Betcha I know what this all about, could it be to set the record straight for the umpteenth time. Course there willbe those who will not believe, but they will get what they wanted. Now what will they say…………….my guess is they still won;t believe it.

Fav   October 9th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

Wow!!

I only wonder what McShame is going to pull out of his sleeve w/ this fantastic idea Obama's got!!

Hmmm….

Claire   October 9th, 2008 5:46 pm ET

Genius. He really is revamping the way politicians should run a campaign.

Rick   October 9th, 2008 5:46 pm ET

Good, maybe he can explain to us how it is that he had his political "coming out party" at the home of a terrorist, he served on two boards with the terrorist, joined with the same terrorist in distributing grant money to "re-education" schools and yet claims that he "hardly knows him.

While he's at it maybe he can explain the democrat mindset that says it's ok that this guy(Ayers) was a terrorist and, in fact, why is it that the democrat mayor of Chicago names this terrorist as the city's Man-of-the-Year? What is it with democrats that don't see anything wrong with all of this?

American for obama------   October 9th, 2008 5:46 pm ET

Tell America how McCain and charles Keating caused banks to collapse is the late 80s.

That is exactly what is happening now.

Tell america about McCain's ties to the Arizona mafia and how he married into one.

Tell america about McCain's tie to the Iran-Contra and ayatolla terrorists and guerillas.

Tom   October 9th, 2008 5:46 pm ET

Its all over McCain, the fat lady is singing.

Bushwhacked in Eugene, OR   October 9th, 2008 5:46 pm ET

Wow — that should be interesting! I'll already have voted by then [by mail, in Oregon] but will look forward to hearing this. And yes, this 66 year old white woman will vote for Obama.

YAHHOOOOO! GOO OBAMA! I'm donating another $50! Take it to them Obama!

America   October 9th, 2008 5:46 pm ET

Go Obama Go!!! Maybe that's the day when Obama will inform the world that while John McCain was on the "Council for World Freedom" he sponsored gorilla soldiers in the hills of Afghanistan in the 1980's, the same gorilla soldiers that became Al Qaeda and the Taliban. Why is the fact that John McCain was a sponsor and member of a far right conservative orginization that sponsored death squads in Latin America and Afghanistan not a bigger news story already??? John McCain is a sick individual.

Liviu   October 9th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

Let me remind you the following, as per “The Economist” poll of academic economists:

Which candidate would pick a better economic plan?

John McCain: 13.6%

Barack Obama: 80.7%

No opinion: 5.7%

Which candidate strikes you as having a better grasp of economics?

John McCain: 7.8%

Barack Obama: 80.1%

No opinion/ don’t know: 12.1%

Shay   October 9th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

I wander what the McCain camp is doing now. How can they keep the press on them without buying ads.

NO McCain, NO Palin, NO CINDY   October 9th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

Go Obama Go!!! Unite Americans to take back this country!

This is leadership. This is taking charge. This is an American Hero.

"This campaign has never been about me; its about YOU!" – Obama

Ken amundsen   October 9th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

To the commentaries, to the news anchors, to the people of America, some of you ask, some of you speculate, some of you try to guess why? Why are Barack Obama and Joe Biden gaining ground in the polls? Folks its simple, just do as I have done and watch these campaign events for a day or two. Back to back, start to finish. The Obama campaign is firmly connected. They are a positive force, an uplifting force, a make you feel good force. The McCain group is dramatized , doom and gloom. They spread a negative layer so thick, so blue it feels heavy on the soul. Just from the motivational spirit alone with out the issues the McCain camp loses. Then you add this crises to it and the drama that John and Sarah add and even if they had the magic answers they could never really be heard to their full potential. The sarcasm, the doom and gloom and the feel of panic instability and confusion are cringe points that make the polls what they are today and guess what? I'm no pro but its gonna get much much much worse for them because all in all people just want to feel good and the Mcain/Palin ticket cant deliver on that and that my friend is why the polls have shifted and the trend will only get stronger and stronger every single day and guess what? I am a white republican 54 yrs old and I to will vote for Barack because he just to say it simply. makes me feel good about me, my country and he gives me hope. I have gotten to know him and love him with all my heart, I fully predict a landslide, and this man whom came from nowhere has truly earned the place he and his family have in my heart, YES WE CAN! Ken from Calif

tulsa   October 9th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

Once again, Senator Obama has shown his ability to use the cash his suporters have donated wisely.
For anyone who wonders where all this cash is coming from, I can tell you that most is coming from people like me. 10, 20, 50 dollars at a time. Senator, I will send as much as is allowed by law every time I can afford it. I would rather eat hot dogs for 4 more weeks than go through 4 more years of Republican rule.
We, the people are ready for GOVERNANCE. For a LEADER.
Thank you Senator.

Vote Obama/Biden
(yep, "that one")

Tim Gurchinoff   October 9th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

Here's a presidential debate I would like to see: one where neither candidate uses their time to bash the other one. I'm not interested in hearing McCain slam Obama or vice-versa. I'm interested in hearing what each candidate will do (not promise, but actually do) to fix the mess that our country is in. I couldn't care less about which campaign can come up with the best dirt on the other. That's tired, useless and unimportant. The United States is facing some of the most major issues it has ever faced (certainly in my lifetime) and it's time for both Obama and McCain to drop the mud and start explaining why they deserve our vote. Not why the other guy doesn't

Mario Brenes   October 9th, 2008 5:44 pm ET

Very good idea.
In case the McSame camp insist on the path of dirty politics he will have a chance to tell us, the American People what the real thing is.
He can't afford to let these dirty Reps do what they have been doing now for several elections. Fear is no way to win an election.
Issues is the way to go but if the Reps can't win on the issues maybe they should get lost and let some body with love for his country run the show. Not love for the rich friends.
Go Barak, don't take any from those Reps clowns.

Shannon   October 9th, 2008 5:44 pm ET

what's he going to tell us, is he going to share what he is going to do for America. Well why hasn't he done anything while in the Senate. Why didn't he try to protect the American people before he was running for Senate. What a fraud! Who cares what he has to say, we know he's going to win, and anyone with a brain knows he isn't going to do anything for the American people, that doesn't first do something for him. He cares about what he can get, and nothing else. What did he get from big oil, for their huge tax breaks, we know a criminal helped buy him his home, who knows what big oil gave him.

country first   October 9th, 2008 5:43 pm ET

saying that mccain stands no chance is an understatement….if he really loves this country he would donate his campaign funds to the economic recovery program…instead of wasting it on a lost cause

Mccain is a liar   October 9th, 2008 5:43 pm ET

The scary thing is Mccain camp is trying to have him killed by insinuating he is a terrorist, it is unbelievable the rallies Palin is holding, as people are shouting "kill him" or "terrorist" and all she can do is smile. The most vile disgusting campaign on earth and they are probably still scratching their hate mongering heads as to why they keep slipping away in the polls…

Tim   October 9th, 2008 5:43 pm ET

Let's put this old geezer and his clueless hockey mom sidekick out to pasture!

An Independent   October 9th, 2008 5:42 pm ET

Obama please give me some specifics on the economy, i love you, but i need to hear something more. McCain (R) the republicans cost me 5,000 this month, and your party has not held the leader, Bush,(R )accountable, so there is no way I can vote for you or any republican this year. Bush (R) has done more damage to America than any terrorist could have done, but that was the terrorist plan all along, bankrupt America, and you and bush fell for the lie (Iraq). Iraq war is why America is on the the virge of collapse, not minorities and poor folks. I am now bitter, but , kind of hopeful things can change. final verdict on bush (r) on economics. FAILURE>

Vegas Barbie for Obama   October 9th, 2008 5:42 pm ET

Brilliant move! With the last debate being next Weds., Oct. 15, there is plenty of time between then and Nov. 4. He'll be the last word and the last one on everyone's mind going into election week! My husband and I will have voted for the Obama/Biden ticket by then via early voting, but we'll be tuned into Sen. Obama on the 29th, for sure!
YES WE CAN!!

N.S of Huntsville, Al   October 9th, 2008 5:42 pm ET

Obama you need to find about this registration crap that is taking place and all the hard work of getting people registred may be in vain if someone or people don't demand to find out if they are truly registred to vote.

Adam   October 9th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

kind of like Chavez's show in Venezuala wherehe sings, dances, and bashes Bush?

Rob   October 9th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

Oh boy! 30 minutes of an idiot on TV, telling people how bad things are, yet not saying a single thing about what HE'D do to make them better. Better find some paint to watch dry, I get more useful information from that.

Of course the Obamaholic koolaid drinkers will be watching intently, looking at him dreamy-eyed, and then post how it was the most important 30 minutes ever.

America's being fooled by a failed community organizer, with ties to terrorists and illegal groups, who promises the world but offers nothing.

It'll be a sad, sad day for America if this joker gets in office.

Somewhere there's a village missing an idiot. Someone want to call them and tell them he's running around the country yelling 'Change' and wanting to be the Democrat president?

Carreen   October 9th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

Exciting. Glad my contributions are going to help put Obama and Biden over the top on Nov. 4. I'll be tuned in to hear what he has to say.

John   October 9th, 2008 5:40 pm ET

Brilliant, this will give Obama a nice opportunity to counter all the smears being thrown his way and to seal this very needed deal!.

This is great.

A question for Mccain and his brainless white supremist running mate……How in the he– did you people think you could compete with Obama?

I won't have tio watch that mind warping baloney.

Jack from California   October 9th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

I would hope that Barack will come out and talk to the American people and tell them that the road to recovery will have to cover over republican mistakes of the past 8 years.

Bi-partisanship sounds great until the democrats propose real change and the republicans filibuster until they succeed in gutting the legislation. We need a 60 senator majority to make real progress or we'll keep getting more of the same corruption that we see today as your retirement accounts dwindle away.

Barbara - 65 yr old white female in NC   October 9th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

Good – because all we're getting in NC is the same old lies from "I'm John McCain and I Approve this Message".

It makes me sick – all the lies have been debunked for months and he gets on there and says it anyway.

McWarmonger Has NO HONOR

Obama/Biden '08 – vote early wherever you can.

Lone Wolf   October 9th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

You go Obama! Just saw a report on Chris Matthews that thousands of newly registered voters have been illegally purged from the rolls in key swing states. Thes RETHUGS will stop at nothing to destroy our country and our democratic process. ENOUGH!

Justin   October 9th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

This will be a good chance for Barack to explain his agenda in clear and concise terms. I know some people will consider it hubris, but I think it is a great way for him to hold a frank conversation with the voters, and possibly his new constituents. Heck, I would take calls and emails from people and answer them.

mitch   October 9th, 2008 5:38 pm ET

It will be worth the expense to counter all the lies being spewed by Gramps McCain and Caribou Barbie.

Wal   October 9th, 2008 5:34 pm ET

McCain want to balance the budget by 2013.
The problem is he doesn't know yet how the deficit may looks like in 3 months.
Bush made the same promise to cut in half in 2004 election and where are we now?

He said he know how to fix the social security. And the solution is commission. Or he pledge to not raise tax how can he be open to a commission and not open to raise tax in order to fix the social security?

We saw this movie before … that will not work again. This year2008 is different.
