Sen. Biden told Palin not to lecture him Thursday night.
Sen. Biden told Palin not to lecture him Thursday night.

JEFFERSON CITY, Missouri (CNN) – Joe Biden Thursday night told Sarah Palin not to lecture him on patriotism, after weeks of attacks mocking him for his statement the wealthy should be patriotic and pay higher taxes because not enough has been asked of them.

"Sarah Palin had great fun saying Joe Biden thinks paying taxes is patriotic. Well, let me tell you what Joe Biden thinks," the Delaware senator said at an outdoor rally. "Joe Biden thinks that anybody who takes millions of dollars offshore to avoid paying their fair share is unpatriotic."

The Obama-Biden campaign has accused John McCain of saying publicly he would close offshore banking loopholes, but saying otherwise in private.

"That is not patriotic and it will stop, it will stop in an Obama-Biden administration! Enough! I've had it up to here! Don't lecture me on patriotism," shouted Biden, getting drowned out by the applause of his supporters. "I'm dead tired of being taken advantage of. I'm getting tired of it."

Biden also said he's had enough of the McCain camp's personal attacks on Obama, slamming the Arizona senator for violating the "ethics" of the old neighborhood for not having the courage to go after Obama's character in their debates the way he has in speeches and in television ads.

"In my neighborhood you want to say something about me, look me in the eye and tell me," said Biden. "Say it to me straight up. Say it to me head on. That's the code, that's the ethics! Say it to me! Ladies and gentlemen, I'm tired of losing, I'm tired of taking this stuff, I've had enough."

There has been a perceptible shift this week in Biden's approach to attacking the opposing ticket. Since Wednesday, he has been increasingly willing to take on Sarah Palin individually, instead of his earlier approach of lumping her in with McCain or ignoring her altogether.

Biden's comments on patriotism were the second time he returned Palin's fire Thursday. Earlier, in Liberty, Missouri, Biden attacked McCain's new mortgage plan, using Palin's quip from last week that she has been listening to Biden's speeches since the second grade, which was intended to paint him as a Washington insider.

"That's true," Biden responded. "But she was in sixth grade the last time John had a new idea."

However, in the second use of that line here in Jefferson City, Biden incorrectly said Palin had made those comments directly to him at their debate in St. Louis last Thursday, rather than at a Columbus, Ohio rally three days prior.

Joe Biden is nothing but a hypocrite. He knows Obama is not ready and just because he was picked to be VP he has changed his tune. This is the only change you get from Obama/Biden "changing their mind every time it doesn't benefit them".

Rodger   October 10th, 2008 10:04 am ET

Relax Joe, they are in panic mode. This is not the same John McCain you served with in the Senate. He has hired the scorch the earth team that put out lies, more lies and even more lies! You will win so big, the Republican party will be out of control for 20 years.

Give me an intelligent, strong, prinicipled, and balanced republican candidate, an educated REAL republican, and I'll give you my vote… but McCain/Palin dont' fit the bill. And if Palin is any indication of the "new generation" of republican politicians, I forsee a long democratic rule in this country.
The McCain's smear campaign solidifies the "angry-mob" voting block, but it turns everyone else against you. Grow up and defend your republican principles McCain, and get Palin to shut it because she apparently doesn't know what republican principles are.

AL   October 10th, 2008 10:03 am ET

Isn't it patriotic to pay taxes for our national defense, to provide funds for our troops – doesn't Sarah Palin want her son to have the best equipment and protection possible while in the military! "Darn right!" About time someone called the Grand Old Party on their contortions and hypocrisy.
Speaking of hypocrisy, McCain and Palin talk about unifying the country when they spew hatred and incite people to violence. Shame on them, and particularly shame on McCain for choosing Palin, who is a huge set back for women, and another blot on our nation. How can we hold our heads up in the global community with her semi-literate rantings and ravings?

Terry B.   October 10th, 2008 10:03 am ET

Whoa, Rob. Way to really after Biden, the dreaded plagiarism attack. Palin addresses a secessionists convention in 2008 and all you got is an accusation, years old, of plagiarism. You so vicious, go boy!

I have to agree with Biden on this one. How can not helping out and doing what your responsibility is be patriotic? I would have to question what is more patriotic than helping out your fellow American and complying with the law. If you have a problem with the law, ask Congress to change it.

Rob, you have no idea what you're talking about. In 1988, Biden used 1 quote 100 times previously in speeches and always attributed it to the Neil Kinnock. One speech at a state fair where he does not and people call him on it. Give me a break.

He is smarter than McSain, calmer than McSain and in touch the the people. If you don"t make 5 million dollars a year, you don"t count in McSains book. So why are some americans voting for this clown? His wife should put him in a retiremet home where he belongs. How about the fact that her husband has until recently been a member of the Alaskan secessionist party, a group whom she has given speeches to. I'm not saying that there's anything terribly wrong with that… but doesn't it contradict any bare bones definition of patriotism?

A-Man   October 10th, 2008 10:01 am ET

FELLOW REPUBLICANS – help me send the message that we need to rebuild our party. McCain has no fresh ideas or direction and Palin is a ignorant joke. She cannot even put two sentences together that are not memorized or written down. All they do is try and put down Obama and Biden and they never give us any thought as to the future. If they wanted our vote they would tell us how things would be different under them, not how the others are so bad that our only choice is them. They have gave our party a black eye, and it is time we send a loud and clear message. For the first time ever I am voting Obama/Biden, I truly hope they help our country as I do when I vote republican. But I will not vote for McCain/Palin, this is a 40 year low spot for our party and its time for new blod and new direction and I am saying now that I will never support Palin in the future, she needs to go. Us republicans have some great people and these are not them!

McCain and Palin will carry this shame u go Joe. McCain/Palin are not petritoic. They are opportunist who think america is stupid. They are turning their crouds into lynch mobs knowing full well they are on the edge of inciting violence. This is not patritoic. This is not country first. This all reminds me of an old western where cowardly town mayor and loud mouth shop keeper stand in frount of a mob shouting out vile encouraging the mob own while they would not be out after dark as they are afraid , without the rest of the mob. John your a coward.Sarah your are a seperatist idoit.

ILoveAmerica   October 10th, 2008 10:00 am ET

The McCain-Palin smear tactics are a desperate, dishonest, and despicable attempt to change the subject away from the economy, health care, education, and every other issue that matters to us. Those of us who don't own seven houses will not go along with this.

Palin shouldn't lecture anybody about patriotism given that her husband belong to a political party that wants Alaska to secede from the United States, the leader of that party has said terrible things about the United States — and she attended their convention at least once and made a speech for them last year! WHEN WILL THE MEDIA DIG INTO THIS ALASKA INDEPENDENCE PARTY STUFF? These so-called journalists are so lazy! Get on it, dig in into this, blow this story up! Who are these weirdos? What is Palin's connection? We deserve to know BEFORE the election, not after.

For every unreasonable, stupid, inane comment that comes from McCain or Palin, Obama and Biden have a reasonable, sound, intelligent response. The McCain/Palin rhetoric is doing nothing but appealing to their core constituency, which they already had in their pockets. It does not appeal to those that will decide this election, the independents. Fortunately those voters are intelligent enough to see through the vapid statements made by the Repubs.

Christine El Paso   October 10th, 2008 10:00 am ET

You tell em Joe…Republicans do not own the copyright to Patriotism, and they have no right to try to make it seem as though they do! I am a very proud American, and a Democrat- and part of being an American is standing up for your country and doing your part! Nothing wrong with saying we all hold responsibilities to our country! Sadly McCain/Palin have clue what Integrity or Responsibility is…

Republicans in the effort of firing up their base have completely alientated the rest of the US- and it is to their own detriment! They disgust me and they highlight to me everything that is WRONG with our country and with some of the people in our country.

Obama/Biden 08- the Clarity and Sanity we NEED!!

Thanks for saying that Joe Biden!!!! I am so tired of seeing these rallies for McCain and Palin where they yell "USA, USA" like they are the only ones that are patriotic.

Obamafied Cheesehead   October 10th, 2008 9:57 am ET

John McCain served and worked alongside people with strong bigoted pasts like Senators Jesse Helms, Strom Thurmond and Robert Byrd.

Thurmond ran for president as a Dixiecrat in 1948 with a platform to maintain segregation.
Helms' policies were consistent and he didn't see blacks as full Americans.
Byrd was once a member of the Ku Klux Klan, a domestic terrorist organization.

By the going standards, I think McCain should have stood up to his bigoted Senate colleagues or resigned in protest to their lowly ways. Nuff said.

I'm glad Senator Biden is finally fighting back. She has been the ugliest candidate I've ever seen. Her attacks and hate rallies have been disturbing, to put it mildly. Check out the article on salon dot com (CNN never let's me post other web sites). Interesting stuff on Sarah Palin's affiliation with the Alaska Independence Party. CNN, why do we have to get this information from other sites?

David   October 10th, 2008 9:57 am ET

Questioning a candidates patriotism is one of the lowest attacks a candidate can make.

McCain and Palin have gone lower than George W. Bush (swift boats) and George Bush (Willie Horton). Apparently McCain is now attacking Obama's record on crime legislation, and one of his sidekicks is bringing up Obama's long past use of drugs. We are reaching lows I didn't think could happen. Red baiting and race baiting in one campaign? Say it ain't so Sarah. Sarah, If your a Christian, act like one!!!!

Maggie from Virginia   October 10th, 2008 9:57 am ET

All this talk about Obama being a terrorist is just low down. What does that say about Congress if they let a terrorist be a part of the governing body? Why would they let him be in the same room with the President if he was a terrorist?

If they will not be straight forward with the people and focus on the issues, instead of Ayer's, with the economy sinking, all they talk about is Ayer's, I've had enough of this smear campaign game, I am sick of it, and Mccain will loose my vote if this goes on for one more day.

Clement O   October 10th, 2008 9:52 am ET

McCain/Palin is the perfect example of political risk. McCain crashed 3 US jets, and was outside his tour of duty the day he was shot and taken POW. Palin's husband is a member of a political group that may eventually actualise a break up of the United States! How unpatriotic!!

worriedmom   October 10th, 2008 9:52 am ET

I am not a Obama supporter but I do have respect for Joe Biden and I realize he has good intentions when he talks to people but has a tendency to use his words wrong. To me, it is just sad that he decided to support Obama. Obama really scares me with his hidden agenda and now I hear that Obama's campaign had a representative meet with members from a Hamas organization in Virginia. Even though most of this site is for Obama does it just not worry you about these connections and that maybe you are being duped.

Cathy Brandes   October 10th, 2008 9:52 am ET

I am continually amazed that with all the important issues, especially in light of the marked dropping another 500 points in the first 5 minutes of trading, the McCain/Palin campaign continues these attacks. It is clear McCain is not in control of his own campaign. They can't discuss the issues because they do not have a plan. So they resort to personal attacks. They should take heed, what goes around, comes around.
Senators Obama and Biden should continue taking the high ground and concentrate on the issues. We need their calm leadership more than ever.

Shawn - GA   October 10th, 2008 9:52 am ET

For a little different perspective on economic issues, check this out.
Lyndon Johnson left with small surplus.
Nixon left with small deficit.
Ford left with slightly larger deficit.
Carter left with slight larger deficit than Ford left but still under $100 million.
Reagan got to $221 million deficit in 1986 and left with about $175 million deficit.
Bush senior left with record $296 million deficit.
Clinton took deficit to surplus by 1998. Clinton left $230 million SURPLUS.
Bush, by 2003 had taken the surplus and squandered it to record of $300 million.
Now sitting at $400 million and growing.
This all from the Congressional Budget Office.

If you notice something, it's Democratic Presidents who put together budgets which every American family has to follow as well. Sen. McCain is likely to fall in line with the rest of his Repulbican bretheren, and stay a sidekick to President Bush as he champions most (if not all) of the same economic policies as Pres. Bush.

So, you decide what's patriotic. I believe it's running the gov't budget like I do my own – in the black, not in the red.

Has another group joined the anti-GOP congo line? “McCain loses ground with scientists over planetarium remark” courtesy of Yahoo News. Apparently the astrologers did not like it when he chided Obama for his expenditure on the overhead projector. The mud that the GOP was slinging has boomeranged and now they are sinking in it.

Palin is a disgrace and will take down the Republican Party when people find out the truths about her. Her ethics investigations, her evaiding taxes, her husbands ties to the Alaskan Independence party that hates the USA.

Palin is nothing more than the bad judgement of John McCain.

henriettap   October 10th, 2008 9:46 am ET

Palin /McCain have no idea on how to help our economy so they try everything but witches brew to get their express back on track ,but their wheels on the straight talk express took them onto her bridge to nowhere and now they are lost. But he has no clue whats going on,because as he said our economy was fundamentally strong.

Stacy Clarks, TX   October 10th, 2008 9:46 am ET

YEA BIDEN!!!!!

TELL THE MCCAIN PALIN TICKET WE DON'T CARE ABOUT THE SILLINESS!!!!

WE ARE MAD ABOUT OUR ECONOMIC SITUATION!!!!!

Elizabeth, NH   October 10th, 2008 9:46 am ET

Obama / Biden will win because they will be able to Unite the country.
Palin is a separatist and a divider, and not qualified to run a diverse
country. It was pretty clear in Palin's "he's not like us" propoganda,
that she has an un-American agenda, of which we should be wary .
Palin will sink John McCain's ship.

Junius   October 10th, 2008 9:46 am ET

America is behind you Joe!!!

Sarah 'the liar' Palin needs to stop inciting violence! We have freedom of speech but once you allow a mob to start to yell 'Kill him', you are encouraging the violations of peoples rights. The right to life, if these people are to be taken at their word.

We are behind you Joe!!

KJL   October 10th, 2008 9:46 am ET

How about the Alaskan Independance Party? Palin was involved with this group, and I can't think of anything less patriotic than wanting to secede from the USA. I guess she wanted to be the Ice Queen.

Gene   October 10th, 2008 9:45 am ET

Joe, Obama is taking advantage of your good honest values to further his dirty, personality cult campaign. I lost respect for you when you became part of it. Look at the other headlines here. Did you ever use cocaine? I'm 58 and I never did. Why does Obama get a free ride?
How about his Acorn buddies rigging elections? Did you sit on a board with a 60's radical funding left-wing"education" experiments?
When the truth comes out about him and his enthralled supporters open their eyes nobody will vote for him but the dead people and Jimmy John. Are you going to help him play the race card again? He keeps trying to make this election about race, when the other side won't because they know that they can beat him because he is WRONG.

Mary   October 10th, 2008 9:45 am ET

Go Joe! Time for some REAL straight talk. Can you believe McCain brought up the bridge AGAIN yesterday. I mean, the country is falling apart, and he wants to pat Sarah on the back for something she didn't do. And then she issues her own statement relieving herself of any blame in Troopergate…nice, sounds like Bush-Cheney and the War Crimes Act. Just what we need…more no tax, just spend big Republicans who lie.
We've heard enough! Go away, all Republicans.

Carramea   October 10th, 2008 9:45 am ET

Rob Palin has directly plagarized lines in her speeches also…….. One of her lines was taken from a neo nazi criminal………. google before you speak

Brendan H., San Antonio, TX   October 10th, 2008 9:44 am ET

Perhaps Caribou Barbie can explain her husband, Todd Palin, belonging to a Separatist Group and how "patriotic" that is?!?!?!

Jim   October 10th, 2008 9:44 am ET

He's right. When you benefit inordinately from the bounty of our nation, it is the essence of true patriotism to repay some of that magnanimity.

Nervous in Texas   October 10th, 2008 9:44 am ET

I just hope that someone in the McCain camp would have the decency and sensibility to see what path their rallies is leading people. Its is inciting hatred and my fear is that something really bad is going to happen. The hatred that they are encouraging one another is so strong that it will get irrationaly people to do something that will hve a great impact on this country. Can someone get to McCain and rationalize with him tht this path is wrong. His followers are going to do something that we can't comeback from. Please Senator McCain, please stop encouraging the hate at your rallies, its wrong and it is sending your followers down the wrong path. They will do something that is not right, people will be hurt. Please we are all begging you, please put a stop to the hate.

I decided to vote for Obama because he picked BIDEN……… I think both presidential candidates are in danger of not making it through a first term. At least I could sleep at night if Biden was president. If Palin got elected I would have to go buy my first gun ever and keep it under the pillow I think this country would go back to the wild west days. Yo Betcha.

Brandon - Gahanna, Ohio   October 10th, 2008 9:44 am ET

In all my time watching this stuff, I've never seen a campaign as dirty and dishonest as the McCain/Palin campaign. You guys think things are bad now under Bush? I don't think McCain is Bush. I think he's WORSE than Bush, and with Daily Scandal Palin likely to be forced to take over the Presidency in the near future if the Republicans won this one, we'd all be totally screwed without a snowball's chance in hell if she took office. I'm a registered Republican, and I'm voting for "the other one".

James From Chicago   October 10th, 2008 9:43 am ET

We all know Sarah Palin is an idiot. She cannot hold a candle to Biden
behind. I think the american people are on to McCain & Palin's
lies. I think they are coming to the realization they are going to loose
in November. McCain can sit in front of the TV in his jammies and
take his daily dose of Geritol and Palin can go back and raise her
kids and watch Putin from Alaska.

Steve - Atlanta GA   October 10th, 2008 9:43 am ET

Send her back to her igloo Joe….so she and her pansy husband can go back home and continue on their road to make Alaska independent from the US. Talk about being Patriotic….she needs to get her own little "ice house" in order before preaching to others…

Now they are attacking youthful drug use by Obama. Maybe the democrats could talk about the adult John McCain cheating on his first wife & trying to marry this current one while still married to his first one. The right wing religious base must have forgotten about this character defect. I am so sick of McCain/Palin. They disgust me.

Your fifteen minutes are almost up, Sarah! And what an insipid fifteen minutes they were. Yours was a tale told by an idiot, full of soung and fury, signifying nothing.

Wise White Guy   October 10th, 2008 9:42 am ET

I am tired of it too Joe! Thanks for being who you are and embracing Barack because you two are the same. Just good smart people who share my values of honesty, integrity, and caring about people more than money. John McCain has shown himself to be the very opposite of that.

I agree with Joe. Our country doesn't ask much of you: She asks that you pay your taxes and obey her laws. Jury duty and even voting are voluntary. I pay my taxes, and I don't cheat. I'm happy to do it because I love my country and her people. What happens to that money once it hits the government is a different story. . . but my job's done.

The McCain campaign has gone totally dsyfunctional. To have folks at a rally pleading for agressiveness out of a compaign that has done all but throw out the bathroom tub, at a time when this economy is hurting and a pressing issue, a nation in TWO wars, an energy problem that we must deal with. I almost think they set that up, to justify becoming more aggressive. To go to the bottom of the pit to win the presidency, if what we see now is a reflection of his judgement. It's the reverse, Sen. McCain is the real risky person in this campaign.

Way to go Joe – tell it like it is.

The nerve of McCain and Palin. All McCain and Palin are doing, are using people's frustrations to feed their own power-trips. McCain, Palin and the whole camp is unpatriotic – the worst ever in history.

After watching the crowds reactions and comments to McCain and Palin – they are really pissed-off. Way to go McCain/Palin – that's the way to connect to your attendees – NOT!!

I hope Obama confronts McCain on his ludicrous and childish behavior and remarks in the next debate. It's really going to make McCain look really bad.

Bob, MN   October 10th, 2008 9:41 am ET

One thing, the New York Times is right. It was a complete lack of
judgment on McCain's part to "pick" Sarah Palin as an instrument of
destruction to his campaign. The qualifications for Vice President are
the same as the qualifications for President. It would be horrifying if
it were Palin, since she not qualified for either position, spewing of
bigoted garbage not withstanding. Where's your honor McCain?

JIM HAWK   October 10th, 2008 9:41 am ET

ACORN is trying to get thousands of dead people's names on voting lists in Lake county Indiana which borders Chicago, but have been caught and are being investigated. Similar illegal registrations have taken place in Nevada as well. ACORN's activities over the nation are now under severe scrutiny and the coming days will certainly shed more light on their wrong-doings in the current presidential election.

I believe that attacking Sarah Palin and John McCain head on. McCain is acting as if he is in a streetfight. So, you have to take it to him. The lies they are spreading is outrageous. Obama has talked about his drug use duh, it was in his book and in several interviews. He has never tried to hide it. Then the William Ayers this is so stupid. They worked on a board together and they were professors at the University of Chicago. I mean seriously, how many people new who he was before they decided to vet every person who has crossed Obama's path? Zero to none.

The unpatriotism of Palin is having a husband connected to a group that is radical enough to want to secede from the U.S. and she herself that goes to their meetings and tells them they are doing a good job. Check it out in Salon news. Also, of trying to get one of their radical members to replace her on the Wasilla city council when she left. Unpatriotism of Palin is inciting the worried public about with false terroristic claims of a person that is going to beat the Mccain/Palin ticket in the ground. Sarah Palin = UNPATRIOTIC.

Really people, half the democrats don't like Obama and I'm one of them. Scream racism if you like.

Obama is a terrorist sympathizer and a friend of radicals.

McCain may not be the best candidate ever, but at least I not sitting here questioning whether he is a patriot to this country.

I remember the McCain who had honor back in 2000. What a mean and low campaign he is running in his hour of challenge. If McCain were honorable he would pause the rally after the first vicious comment and tell that supporter that we don't have to fight like that to win.
I like my intelligent candidate and my feisty VP. I wish I could vote today to put this negativity away.

Sarah Palin is an epic fail (that's a term we Facebook users use). How can J-Mc and Palin actually be running together on the same ticket when they don't agree on the same issues; and some of the J-Mc people prolly don't even like her. No isn't that something?!

Great Joe,

Someone should stand up to the McCain Camp, who do they think they are. If you were to stand in the room with either one of them, they would not say it to your face, Can you believe they call themselves christians, Christians don't act like that, who are they kidding.

Joe Biden: "Yeah Sarah, don't lecture me on patriotism. I've plagarized enough speeches to know what it means!"

Lisa   October 10th, 2008 9:36 am ET

Let em have it Joe, they deserve it. McCain and Palin are stopping at nothing to roll around in the mud. Do they think it will make a difference to people who have already decided to vote for Obama? Never!! If they really felt all this stuff was so important to this election why did they decide to start talking about it when they got behind in the polls. We see through your smoke and mirrors John McCain and it is not going to work. Why don't you try telling people how you are going to fix the country, not trying to start riots at your rallies.

Ken in NC   October 10th, 2008 9:36 am ET

Bring the HAMMER down on Six-Pack-Sarah Joe. She doesn't have a clue. I'm proud of you and "THAT ONE". I know it is going to be a long hard road we have in front of us but I am confident that with you and "THAT ONE" leading us, we can reestablish our country as a leader in the world. We can again be a country that other countries look up to. Give Sister Sarah a six-pack and send her packing back to Alaska so she can have her Moose Burgers and let her take McShame with her.

Mike in Ohio   October 10th, 2008 9:35 am ET

Joe Biden is exactly right!

The McCain/Palin campaign is so incredibly transparent. They have nothing to offer in the way of systemic, well-thought out solutions to the horrendous problems we are now facing. McCain is flailing about, each day searching for SOME proposal, ANY proposal, that might get traction with voters.

But the only theme that they seem to think works is: Smears, innuendos, and outright lies about their opponent. That's all they've got to offer. Smears, innuendos and lies. McCain/Palin is the most disingenuous, dishonest, incapable, ineffective ticket for national office that I have ever seen.

TKW- New Mexico   October 10th, 2008 9:35 am ET

GO JOE! Now that's what I like about this ticket. It's for everyday working Americans. I'm tired of this mudslinging from the McInsane camp and it's about time we put a stop to it. They can't distract us from the issues anymore. It's time for the people to stand up and say ENOUGH OF THIS CRAP!

You know, Joe Biden is right about being Patriotic and paying taxes. If you support the troops then you support the troops having guns, having bullets, having armor, having HUMVEEs, having night vision goggles, having the best medical care, having the best weapon systems, having preadator drones for scouting missions and attacks, let me ask you…

How are these things paid for? With taxpayers' money folks! Don't just say you are a patriot! Put your money where your mouth is!

LB   October 10th, 2008 9:34 am ET

I am amazed that Sarah Palin can question anyone's patriotism based on the facts that her husband Todd was part of the Alaskan Independence Group. I am really interested in Todd Palin, maybe he is the real power behind Sarah. It is bad enough that we could have a president that it took 6 years to get a Journalism Degree, but if Todd Palin is the power behind her, he has no degree. Do we really want "folksy" people in the White House?

That's right!!! Enough is enough; let the Joe Biden I know come out on those clowns. Biden and Obama both have been nice enough to McCain and Palin.

Obama/Biden 08 and beyond

Patriotic right now would be getting ready to help feed the homeless camps that are going to spring up all over. Patriotic right now would be recognizing that the fat cats in this country overreached themselves in their wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and having the courage to say that we made a mistake and to bring our troops home to take care of our elderly and children and crumbling infrastructure. Patriotic right now would not be appealing to the worst in us, that latent underbelly of unconscious American reality: racism and xenophopia. Patriotic would be urging us to be calm, urging us to remember what unites us rather than what divides us, urging us to sacrifice and stand together to make a better day.

You go, Joe!! You are the greatest.. I really think you are FANTASTIC AND COOL AND PATRIOTIC. Look Joe, I never really knew who you were until you got on the VP ticket. But all I've seen of you so far has only caused me to respect you more. You have knowledge and experience and integrity and you connect with people. We love you Joe. Dont let up on that "witch doctor" woman. She's unpatriotic. Look at how she billed Alaska per diem for staying at her home for half the year.

CT from Chi-Town   October 10th, 2008 9:34 am ET

Go Joe Go!

That One and Biden '08!

M. Bryan   October 10th, 2008 9:33 am ET

Way to go, Joe. Hate-mongering Sarah is the pits.
Their campaign has sunk to the lowest of the low.

Barbara - 65 yr old white female in NC   October 10th, 2008 9:33 am ET

Some of my republican friends have turned their backs on the dirty tactics of this campaign. It's about time. We do not need the fear on top of everything else.

wb   October 10th, 2008 9:32 am ET

Go Joe! Sarah Palin is not even in your league.

Lorna, NY   October 10th, 2008 9:32 am ET

SAT   October 10th, 2008 9:31 am ET

Good. It is time for him to respond directly to her VP candidate to VP candidate.

Accountant Guy   October 10th, 2008 9:31 am ET

That's right Joe, expose that eskimo barbie for the liar and cheat she is. Can't wait for the report of her abuse of power to come out. It is time to see her for who she really is. She is anti-american. When are we going to hear how her husband is part of a group that wants to seperate Alaska from the USA, or how she gave speeches at their events!!

Obama/Biden '08 (Real America)

ines   October 10th, 2008 9:31 am ET

I love Joe.

Contrast Biden rallies to Palin rallies — – - – - – - – - Constructive vs. The Clan…

Billy   October 10th, 2008 9:31 am ET

Democrats who fight back, imagine that.

What Palin is saying about Obama is horrible and unamerican. She should be impeached as governor for such statements.

Ohio Independent   October 10th, 2008 9:30 am ET

Thank you Joe for going after Palin and here lies.

She is fair game after shooting off her mouth and inciting hate in this nation. This woman is appauling. I want to hear more about her and Todd's ties to the Alaska Independence Party. Now that is unpatriotic. How about Troopergate.

This Ohio resident is now for the Obama / Biden ticket.

shughes7@hotmail.com   October 10th, 2008 9:30 am ET

Please read the Rolling Stone article entitled "Make-Believe Maverick" when it's released on October 16th. It will blow your mind.

Democrat from AZ   October 10th, 2008 9:30 am ET

Way to go Joe! It is time that democrats across America take back our country!

PA Independent   October 10th, 2008 9:29 am ET

Go get 'em, Joe. McCain and Palin are plumbing new depths from a distance, you're right to call them on it and keep calling them on their cowardice. Only a coward – man or woman – says something behind a person's back he or she wouldn't say to their face. Don't know about anybody else, but I can't vote for a coward. And a liar on top of it!

Spencer - Commonwelth of Virginia   October 10th, 2008 9:29 am ET

Go get em Jo.

OBAMA/BIDEN 08

Tim   October 10th, 2008 9:29 am ET

Why doesn't the patriotic Biden donate his money to charity. Oh wait, he did, about $200 bucks last year.

Leave my money alone.

REDNECKS LOVE OBAMA   October 10th, 2008 9:29 am ET

What do we really know about Palin? Why won't she talk to the media? What is she hiding? We see how ANGRY, DIVISIVE, and NEGATIVE she is…. what else is she hiding? Why is her husband a member of a HATE group? What is she hiding?

Baze   October 10th, 2008 9:29 am ET

What's the difference between Palin and a pig? NOTHING!

ONE NATION

Rod G   October 10th, 2008 9:29 am ET

I love this guy. Now that's a VP for us.

NettenAZ   October 10th, 2008 9:29 am ET

You Go Joe!!! Can't wait to see how her tune changes once the Ethics Committe review is released. It will no doubt be a lapse in judgement. Oops, I forgot she sent her statement via the campaign clearing her of any wrong doing. I always thought you had to wait for the results of an investigation to be cleared. Guess not?

Molly KC   October 10th, 2008 9:29 am ET

Get em Joe! …but don't forget to bring some substance to the conversation. People are freaking out over the financial mess out here and we need someone to stand up and lead us.

Lovey   October 10th, 2008 9:28 am ET

If Palin could back up her skirt talk she would be dangerous. Now what she needs to do is be VP looking and start talking about issues. The issues Sarah and John have are very different from the issues we need to hear. John with a gambling addiction and Sarah with a trooper gate lieing her way out. Both of partners in crime. Heeeeeee

obamamama   October 10th, 2008 9:27 am ET

Can anyone say "AIP"?

Phil, Ashburn, VA   October 10th, 2008 9:26 am ET

Go after that clueless lunatic and show her the folksy stuff is not working.

Missy in Kentucky   October 10th, 2008 9:26 am ET

Got get'em Joe! This Republican ticket is running the sleaziest campaign I've ever seen. They started it, and you guys need to finish it–with a victory!

victoria   October 10th, 2008 9:26 am ET

Let her have it, Joe.
