President Bush worked to calm American's fears Friday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) – President Bush said Friday that the U.S. government will continue to work to resolve the economic crisis, which he said is being made worse by anxiety and fear.

Watch: Anxiety worses crisis, Pres. Bush says

"Over the past few days, we have witnessed a startling drop in the stock market," he said in the Rose Garden. "Much of it is driven by uncertainty and fear."

He added, "We will continue to act and resolve this crisis."

Liberals are the BIGGEST sore losers. You morons would blame George Bush for your dog getting run over at this point.

This isn't really a news story, just another forum for people to bash on Bush because they bought a house they can't afford. Yes, the economic dilemma is all THEIR fault, not yours. You were just trying to buy a how you couldn't pay for, what's wrong with that? And you were able to get a mortgage that you couldn't afford because Bill Clinton forced banks to lower their lending standards. But this is all Bush's fault because the president controls the economy. Thank God the president doesn't actually, but you'd all like an excuse for running up your credit card debit because you can't properly budget for that flat screen TV you couldn't wait for - and you probably forget to get HD service while you were at it.

Pull your head out of Fox News butt. It is because of the people that you support that we are in this mess. George Bush has screwed up this country to the point it may never recover. The terrorists could not have even dreamed of doing as much. I am sitting here watching the retirement fund that I have put money into for the past 30 years dissappear. My bank has already failed. I have 2 kids and wonder what the hell kind of mess we are leaving for them. And all you can do is whine about liberals. You make me sick

Why don't you have Paulson ban SHORT SELLING until the market stabilizes? You banned it on financials until yesterday. There isn't an absolute need to allow short selling and you can always remove the ban in 6 -12 months when things are better.

BTW, thank you Bush for stating the obvious. Now please go back to your couch and watch your Nickelodeon.

Lee Shrader   October 10th, 2008 11:07 am ET

Good for Joe Biden. Its time someone took Sarah Palin to task. She is showing us the worst of what the political process has to offer–slander by innuendo, and worst yet, coming from someone so wet behind the ears and green with regard to real world issues that all she can do is throw mud. Let's hear what she has to say about the issues. In fact, let's hear what the Republicans have to say about the issues. Telling lies and spreading innuendos may be a traditional part of the political process, but it sure does not demonstrate patriotism or statesmanship.

For the last time, people need to stop putting all the blame on Bush and the Republicans. There is plenty of blame to go around from top to bottom – from Bush to the idiot people who bought houses they knew they couldn't afford. Both Dems and Reps have a fair share in this mess. And it's funny how not too many people were complaining about the economy a couple of years ago when the Dow was at an all time high and people were selling their homes for record prices.

Obama, McCain – it doesn't matter who gets elected. I don't think either one of them knows how to fix this mess. The economy will fix itself on its own, although it may take a while.

The "crisis" is fear prompted by the Media and the Democratic Party about our nation in turmoil so they can win the election.

The LAST time something like this occurred was right before Bill Clinton won his first term in office... the LAST time a Democrat won the White House.

It is a HUGE coincidence that an "economic crisis" hit the US right before the election.

It's not as bad as it seems in the news. And the economy will turn around... ALL BY ITSELF... next year no matter who is elected President.

What a shame innocent people have to keep taking the brunt of this battle just so the Democrats can win the White House.

Chipster   October 10th, 2008 10:54 am ET

Noah, you must not know any liberals. Most of us work for small businesses and don't want to lose our jobs. That's why we prefer fair taxes over borrow & spend economics. The problem is that continuing to borrow and spend is a recipe for failure. It creates a situation where taxes have to be burdensome in order to pay the price for borrowing so much. True economists know how to balance a check book. It works like this: you either have to generate revenue or borrow. The more you borrow, the further in debt you become. The amount of interest continues to climb until you cannot afford to pay the interest and principal due. Then, you either must raise more revenue or default.

If the past 7 years haven't shown you that supply-side economics doesn't work, you haven't been paying attention.

WON'T IT BE GREAT TO FINALLY HAVE A PRESIDENT WHO CAN COMPLETE A SENTENCE, ARTICULATE, AND THINK?

OBAMA / BIDEN '08-'16

Citizen   October 10th, 2008 10:47 am ET

Arrest the speculators, market manipulators, and scum CEO's who go to Spas after borrowing Millions in taxpayer money.

Raise the tax on the top 1% by 500%!

Otherwise, the people will go to the streets!

Kate Fergus   October 10th, 2008 10:46 am ET

Noah October 10th, 2008 10:38 am ET write:

"Liberals actually think it is a good idea to elect someone who will raise taxes on small business owners, who are the economic engine of our country, and who will restrict free trade".

You are another one who has bought into the McCain hype. The majority of small business owners will not be affected. Go the factcheck.org and read the details. You must be a true right wing ideology if you still believe McCain after all his false claims and lies. It's time for you to be patriotic and put country first. If you did that you would realize Obama is the only hope for the country to get out of this mess. If McCain becomes president – hello third world status for the country.

Abby   October 10th, 2008 10:46 am ET

Fear because people don’t trust their leader to fix it. That would be you, sir, with all due respect.

Obama 08!

FL Dem   October 10th, 2008 10:46 am ET

Bush,
do the world a favor and just go away!

Go far away and take your greedy corrupt republicans with you.

TONY   October 10th, 2008 10:46 am ET

YAWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maggie from Virginia   October 10th, 2008 10:46 am ET

Noah,

After Obama and Biden win the election, you should move to Alaska. You and Sarah can start your own country. No liberals allowed. How cool is that?

VOTE 3rd PARTY!!!!!   October 10th, 2008 10:46 am ET

Please, come out and vote. If your like me, your tired of trying to choose the lesser of two evils. Vote for a third party canidate this year. Maybe we can show these jerks how many Americans are sick of their lies and dirty campagning!

Paul, NY   October 10th, 2008 10:46 am ET

Noah! You are right.

We cant get past out hatred of George Bush!! Luckily, nobody could punish our country as much as the republicans have already done! Billions of dollars being spent in a country we should never have invaded, instead of spending that money improving our own country!! NOT patriotic!

Amy C   October 10th, 2008 10:45 am ET

W is "working to solve the crisis". Wow, I feel much better now.

Greg M.   October 10th, 2008 10:45 am ET

Hide your face in a hole in the ground. Take Palin, McCain and the other REPUBLICANS and put their heads in a hole, a hole.

OBAMA 08..............................................................................................

Robert The Man   October 10th, 2008 10:45 am ET

Please Dem's elect obama. When you keep getting what you ask for and watch this country fall apart due to him i'm sure you'll then blame it on the republicans somehow. You are all fools. I think McCain should drop out right now, just to give you what you want, then when the USA becomes the USSA and you have your basic rights stripped away from you, you can go thank yourself

elm   October 10th, 2008 10:45 am ET

Make that 350 points down...another 50 in just 2 minutes.

Bush is the worst President in history.

McCain is a delusional old man who shouldn't be anywhere near the White House (or even the Senate).

Nelson Colorado Springs Co   October 10th, 2008 10:45 am ET

The stock market should drop to 6500 then go up. the market is fake money anyway the value was to high. The people are investing on a promise to make money not to lose money. Give the people the money they will spend it. Go Obama/Biden

cm   October 10th, 2008 10:44 am ET

We are a strong nation, we will overcome this, we need a new leader a new direction but we will do it.
Let's think about how we can help our country to clean the mess.
If we live stuck in the past and fear about the future we can not think clearly. God help us to get the new leader for this country.

david   October 10th, 2008 10:44 am ET

right after Obama is elected president

Chris from STL   October 10th, 2008 10:43 am ET

that was very unpresidential.. Mr. President. Did you know, the market dropped as you spoke. I wish you had not spoken.

BJGT   October 10th, 2008 10:43 am ET

Blah,Blah,Blah,Blah,

Tom Menczel   October 10th, 2008 10:43 am ET

There was such a rush to get this palan through congress, and yet much of what has been done with the $700 billion has been rhetoric. When will there be some action to asuage this economic crisis?

Thieves   October 10th, 2008 10:43 am ET

Give me back my retirement account- I worked hard for it, scrimped to save it, and lived below my means to save it.

There was no one else to fund my retirement but myself and my hard work.

Now that retirement money is gone- my entire 3 decades worth of preparing to provide for myself in my retirement- gone.

GIVE it back.

RW   October 10th, 2008 10:43 am ET

We're at 2000ft altitude and the ground is comming up fast; time to pull the ripcord, vote OBAMA. End the freefall!

elm   October 10th, 2008 10:43 am ET

Every time Bush speaks the market drops. It is now down another 300 points. . Just SHUT UP you idiot!

c   October 10th, 2008 10:42 am ET

Economic Treason!
The Bush administration has accomplished what Bin Ladin has failed to do, devastate the economy of our once strong and proud nation.

Laura, WI   October 10th, 2008 10:42 am ET

America should have a national day of celebration on the day Bush leaves office..and on that date every year thereafter!!

Worst president in History!!

Kate Fergus   October 10th, 2008 10:42 am ET

Well look for the markets to tumble even more if McCain is elected. I am sure that an Obama presidency will help to reduce anxiety not only in this country but also around the world.

Bush is a negative influence as are McCain and Palin with their outrageous behaviour and ineffective policy platforms.

Robert The Man   October 10th, 2008 10:41 am ET

This just shows that if McCain is elected it'll tank our economy even more!!! Wake up republicans!!! McBush!!!!

Obama/Biden '08 Don't playa hate!

kc Colorado   October 10th, 2008 10:41 am ET

I feel much better now that he says we know how to fix everything. He has done such a great job up until now.

Hayes   October 10th, 2008 10:41 am ET

How about adding incompetence (in the White House and Congress and both political parties) to the list of reasons for the economic crisis?

Obama/Biden in 2008!

I'm left holding the bag   October 10th, 2008 10:41 am ET

I did nothing wrong- paid my conventional mortgage, did not flip homes, did not buy more house than I can afford, contribute to a 401 K because I do not have an employer provided pension plan-– and I have lost more than 50% of my life's savings.

MOST of my retirement money that I worked hard to save over the past 25 years- gone up in smoke- evaporated.

WHO is going to help ME fund my own retirement?

WHO is going to give me back my retirement account that they stole from me?

WHO is going to replace my retirement account?

tulsa   October 10th, 2008 10:41 am ET

There are some people in these posts that are really spewing hate. To ME, Scott L, etc... (and some left wing posters too)
What are you doing? Are you proud of yourselves for being destructive? Don't you think that if you have a real problem with someone it might be better to talk rationally and with facts than to call names, wish death to a fellow human being and countryman? John McCain has given an awfull lot to this country and deserves respect. Barack Obama is the embodiment of what the American dream is all about and he deserves respect too.

We all need to take a step back from the edge and speak to one another with conviction tempered by respect.

TONY   October 10th, 2008 10:39 am ET

BUSH'S TIME IS UP!

NO ONE CARE WHAT HE HAS TO SAY OR WAHT HE THINKS.

THE END OR THE REPUBLICAN DICTATORSHIP IS OVER JUST LIKE BUSH'S FAILED PRESIDENCY.

BUSH AND CHENEY HAVE DONE MORE DAMAGE TO AMERICA THAN ANY TERRORIST EVER COULD!

Noah   October 10th, 2008 10:38 am ET

Liberals actually think it is a good idea to elect someone who will raise taxes on small business owners, who are the economic engine of our country, and who will restrict free trade. You guys are brilliant. True economists. You cannot get past your hatred of George Bush so you want to punish the country by voting for Obama, who will severely hurt the economy much more.

Don   October 10th, 2008 10:38 am ET

He essentially said nothing. Did nothing. We need a leader right now and Mr. Bush is not it.

Barbara - 65 yr old white female in NC   October 10th, 2008 10:37 am ET

Call Bill Clinton's advisors. And Mr Bush – SHUT UP

LET THE MARKET FALL   October 10th, 2008 10:37 am ET

MORE BULLSH@T FROM THE 2% THAT CONTROL 80% OF THE MONEY
