Report: Palin abused power, violated ethics code in trooper case

Report: Palin ‘abused her power’
Report: Palin ‘abused her power’

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) – Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin abused her power as Alaska's governor and a violated state ethics law by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law fired from the state police, a state investigator's report concluded Friday.

"Governor Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda," the report states.

Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan's refusal to fire State Trooper Mike Wooten from the state police force was "likely a contributing factor" to Monegan's July dismissal, but Palin had the authority as governor to sack him, the report by former Anchorage prosecutor Stephen Branchflower states. However, it states that her efforts to get Wooten fired broke a state ethics law that bars public officials from pursuing personal interest through official action.

Monegan has said he was fired in July after refusing pressure to sack Wooten, who had gone through an acrimonious divorce and custody battle with Palin's sister. Palin and her husband, Todd, have consistently denied any wrongdoing, describing Wooten as a "rogue trooper" who had threatened their family - allegations Branchflower discounted.

"I conclude that such claims of fear were not bona fide and were offered to provide cover for the Palins' real motivation: to get Trooper Wooten fired for personal family reasons," Branchflower wrote.

Kind of like being "cleared" but not locked up. Absolutely amasing.

This just shows that John McCain did not vet her totally. There were plenty of qualified women that he could have chosen. But he chose her and sorry to say this will hurt him in the General Election.

Watch how Obama will take the high road and not spend too much time on this issue though if it was reported he somehow violated public trust he would be demonized by their camp every minute of every day.

People don't remember, as mayor Palin built a multi-million dollar hockey complex on land the city didn't own. She left the city in debt. Moved on to the governorship. She is a power-hungry politician who really doesn't care who she steps on, or what she does to get her name in the news and votes in her ballot box. As mayor she knew the city didn't own the hockey rink land, but she built anyway. By the time the land ownership became public,m it was too late, the palin administration had already invested too much public money for the city to pull out. This woman is dangerous. And to think I was so happy when McCain picked her, now I see just how wrong I really was.

She was an incredibly reckless choice; not only did she undercut the Republicans' experience argument, but she has also blown any trustworthiness that McCain has managed to find.

If she doesn't drop out of the race and they still win, it'll be a sad site.

November 4th can't get here fast enough. I can't wait until I no longer will be forced to see and hear this vile woman and her whiskey tango family on my television.

Shame on John McCain for forcing her crazy bleep on THE sane majority of Americans.

This is a good thing for them. Regarding this one particular charge, Palin's family lies but they aren't crooks. Looks a little sad standing behind a "country first" sign. Is that with or without Alaska?

We are tired of the lies and the games. This is serious business. We can't trust Palin being a heart-beat away for being a President. That is very scary. That lady on saturday night live showed her for her true self!!

And based on her actions in the race she would abuse her powers if McCain was elected. We have already had one VP who has abused his powers do we want another one? Now look into her speech at the AIP convention. To bad they didn't succeed then she wouldn't be an Ameriocan citizen and we wouldn't have to listen to her rantings

So much for John Mccain's Judgement.

And this power abuser has the audacity to question "Who is Barack Obama" .....The Question should be "Who is Sarah Palin" for which the answer sis " Power abuser". I think it's clear that she should step down if Mccain wants to even get 30% of the votes.

How many bad deeds, drunken driving records, anger management fits, tazing a kid, drunk driving charges, abusing wives and work ethics problems must be proven before a trooper be fired? The investigative reporter said this man had a long list of bad behavior. Most states would fire him PDQ. A State Trooper is suppose to uphold the law, not ignore it.

A B U S E, this is what would be in store for Americans if they would allow this shallow, ignorant, ambitious woman to acquire the power of vice-president....and,heaven forbid, of president of the USA, which would be a very likely possibility considering McCain's age and health.
