Report: Palin abused power, violated ethics code in trooper case

Report: Palin ‘abused her power’
Report: Palin ‘abused her power’

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) – Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin abused her power as Alaska's governor and a violated state ethics law by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law fired from the state police, a state investigator's report concluded Friday.

"Governor Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda," the report states.

Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan's refusal to fire State Trooper Mike Wooten from the state police force was "likely a contributing factor" to Monegan's July dismissal, but Palin had the authority as governor to sack him, the report by former Anchorage prosecutor Stephen Branchflower states. However, it states that her efforts to get Wooten fired broke a state ethics law that bars public officials from pursuing personal interest through official action.

Monegan has said he was fired in July after refusing pressure to sack Wooten, who had gone through an acrimonious divorce and custody battle with Palin's sister. Palin and her husband, Todd, have consistently denied any wrongdoing, describing Wooten as a "rogue trooper" who had threatened their family - allegations Branchflower discounted.

"I conclude that such claims of fear were not bona fide and were offered to provide cover for the Palins' real motivation: to get Trooper Wooten fired for personal family reasons," Branchflower wrote.

What is really sad is all the people that keep insisting that Sara Palin is VP material. So sad that their own standards are set so low. I bet when all of this is over McShame will wish he could put that rabbit back in the hat.

What now? She was the pit bull for the Republican party. That's not fair, I've actually seen some nice pit bulls. The poles show people are tired of the negative stuff. She's lost even more credibility and is even more of a joke. What now?

I understand it was an emotionally charged situation and that some very questionable acts were committed by this trooper HOWEVER, those issues should not become intertwined with the executive powers granted her as governor of Alaska. These finding come on the heels of a week in which the McCain campaign has ratcheted up attacks and, at times, incited fear and rage from gathering and gathered crowds. "Who is this person?" "Can you trust this person?" These questions suddenly take on a new light.

Read the report people. Under the recommendations for action by the committee p. 78 there is no mention of further investigation. She did nothing wrong. p. 8 under finding 2 states "Governor Palin's firing of Commissioner Monegan was a proper and lawful exercise of her constitutional and statutory authority to hire and fire executive branch department heads." Case closed people. She did nothing wrong. CNN should correct its headline.

After all her bluster, Governor Palin now should heed her own words and put country ahead of ambition. This report, by her own legislature, shows she is unfit for the Vice Presidency. She needs to step down and allow Senator McCain to select a running mate with integrity.

No surprise. The public now sees who the real Palin is. Her lies have caught up to her.

If McSame is trying to portray Obama as one who has bad judgment and you can't trust, this will show that he has bad judgment in selecting a unethical VP. She is really the one you can't trust.

But to be fair with Palin, she is trying to take Chaney's spot, so she does have show the world that she thinks she is above the law. This is a good way of showing that.

Did people honestly think she had a chance of not falling short? She is human and would have fired the guy for some of those reasons mentioned by the report.

Its annoying for her to stand there and think Americans are stupid enough. Well McPalin, you got yourself something.

A lady who knows little about her running mate's voting records.

John McCain, you should be worried about who you picked as your VP. If you win, she will topple you. She will use her subtle, yet dangerous way to drive you to a quick grave so she and her apparent secessionist husband.

    She is no longer believable
    ---------------------
Humm. She was never believable to anyone who's paying attention. She has lied about almost everything from the very beginning; whether it was the bridge to nowhere or the quote from the coffee cup that she got wrong at the rally. She has been a farce and to think that she's going around asking, "who is Obama?"

The same man that was chosen by the American people to represent the democratic party in a very competitive field of contenders.
Well, tonight even her "supporters" should be asking "who is Palin?"

    Vote for change......OBAMA/BIDEN 08...............

Palin will be a good successor to Cheney- abuse of power , personal vendettas to punish her perceived "enemies", putting pressure on any federal employee to do want she wants, lies anout everything-sounds a lot like NIxon!! She is vindictive, nasty, power-mad, and a liar, not just in this one case, but throughout her career as mayor, there were many other caes that if you were not one of Sarah's cheerleaders, you got fired. from your Government job Sarah is a very immature, emotional, power-hungry woman that in no way should be VP-the US has enough problems without making this vindictive wacko its VP. Its bad enough she doesn't know anything, acts like McCains personal secretary, has the personality of a pit bull, but now we find she runs the State Government as the dictator of her personal fiefdom-and we thought we got rid of Saddam Hussein and Nixon!! She would probably find a way to get rid of McCain eventually-watch your back, John.
