Palin schedules bus tour of West Virginia

Gov. Palin will embark on a bus tour Sunday through West Virginia

CLEVELAND, Ohio (CNN) - In what may be another signal that the troubled economy is forcing John McCain’s campaign to play electoral map defense, Sarah Palin has scheduled a bus tour for Sunday through West Virginia, a state that’s been leaning red throughout this presidential race.

Palin had already scheduled a bus tour of Pennsylvania on Saturday, but she will now repeat that act on Sunday by making various unannounced stops throughout West Virginia, culminating in a campaign event in southeast Ohio. It’s a swing geographically reminiscent of Hillary Clinton’s effort during the Democratic primary to court white working class voters in Appalachia. Clinton won the West Virginia primary over Barack Obama by a whopping 67-26 margin.

Surveys of West Virginia voters this year have consistently favored McCain, but state polls have closed in recent weeks as the global financial crisis has dominated the headlines. A CNN/Time poll conducted in late September showed McCain with a slight 50-46 lead over Obama, and an ARG poll released this week suggested Obama had rocketed to an eight-point over his Republican rival.

Last week, Palin made a pair of last-minute campaign stops in Omaha, Nebraska and Greenville, North Carolina – two regions that until recently were considered safe for McCain.

Palin on Friday seemed to acknowledge that time is running out for her campaign to shift the momentum of the race.

“Things are getting kind of, not tense, but things are getting - as things come down to the wire obviously, things are getting more important in terms of message, and in terms of opportunity we have to lay out the contrast between the two tickets,” she told donors in Cincinnati.

More defense and another bad sign for the UGLY and DIRTY McCain campaign. I am sure she will find plenty of angry racists there to create a mob..

Isn't this so funny, McCain is no longer at the top of the ticket. It's Pailn who is worst then McCain. She is sitting up on bus riding around with a sign that says "STRAIGHT TALK EXPRESS" and yet she is a big lier and won't come clean on Troopergate, has her husband running around like a fool saying he pressured people to fire Tooper. This is really getting worst by the days.

I think McCain she get the boot and Romney should take his place, he is obviously having a nervous brake down.

I think you were right the first time – tense.

What is wrong with Republicans who are "shocked" that McCain is in trouble?

Have they read the paper or watched any TV lately?

We have to get rid of the Republicans as quickly as possible. I bet we would be doing a lot better dealing with the financial crisis internationally if we didn't already have so much to apologize for.

Good grief, how many race riots can she incite there??? THIS IS CRAZY! I think the white racists are finally beginning to realize they are not in the majority and they can't live in the 1950's America forever! This is the millenium! What is with these Obama haters? They live in their own little box of a world just like Sarah Palin. Honestly, the Obama campaign is trying to hide it but there have been so many racist attacks and threats all over the country toward Obama and his supporters in the past year it is SCARY. We're going to have to fight our way to the top Obama supporters!!! I can't stand McCain and Palin but I can say that I don't hate them, and I don't have any "Rage" toward them. Grow up!

Why don't you tell coal country that you're not going to invest in many sources of energy, just keep telling them about nucLEAR (not nucular, since there's no such word) and oil drilling. Forget clean coal technology.

    This campaign is nearly over.

  8. Obama all the way....

You know what I don't *get* about Palin.

For such a religious, Christian- I wonder what Jesus would think of Palin rage and attacks and antics.

She is a discrace to her religion. She is NOT a Christian.

Obama is a Christian as well and you don't see him spewing this hatred and mean spirited attacks.

Yup – that is just what we want, a President and Vice President that incite anger and division and hatred and fear and racism into the election dialogue. As if this country doesn't have enough ugliness and division in it's past, McCain and Palin are continuing the platform for the future. What kind of change is that?

    ENOUGH.

Palin is disgusting with her gutter style attacks and the more we find out about her the more unfit she is to lead this country. In fact, the more Alaksans learn about her the less popular she has become. She's only been a governor for less than 2 years and is very secretive. As those secrets become known the more people do not like her.

  14. Hitler Youth for Obama

The Obamanation needs to take a good hard look at their candidate-

He is not qualified to be the nominee- yet he is, due to cut throat tactics.

He lies, cheats and falsifies voter registrations. He plays the race-card. He won't allow criticism. He self-promotes relentlessly.

He strong-armed his way to caucus wins.

He suppresses freedom of speech by silencing all opposition and by buying up air time.

He is a dictator in the making.

Really? All I've been hearing from you is Obama, nothing about what you and McCain would do.

Will we get video of yet another Klan/Nazi party event? I hope so just to expose the utter insanity of the people that are showing up for these rallies. Bring inthe storm troopers! rail against the socialist/marxist/communist Democratic candidate!...although they can't seem to make up their minds as to what he is. To someone in the GOP field...which one is it?? Please confirm that to the rest of us.

This is incredible. Obama-Biden have put little to no effort in W VA during the campaign (because it's supposed to be among the most unfavorable places for Obama), yet McCain-Palin is STILL in a position of having to defend the state! I'm just hoping for a win, but we might be looking at a colossal Obama-Biden landslide on Nov. 4.

I love Palin's remark on the importance of "message": so far, the best she can do on the front is suggest that Obama is a black, radical, anti-American terrorist. Nice work, Governor Yahoo. Your ignorance, bigotry, hatefulness, and stupidity shines through loud and clear.

I can't believe McCain and Palin have to campaign in a state filled with bigots...they should have had this state easily locked up!

Each time I hear McCain or Palin pointing a fingure at Obama (That One) I cannot help but wonder if they are not looking in the mirror and then placing the accusation against Obama? Something about foxes that smell their own holes, maybe? Ex McCain supporter.
