Palin booed at NHL game in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) – Although many Philadelphia Flyers fans cheered and clapped as Sarah Palin took to the ice at the Wachovia Center on Saturday night to drop the ceremonial puck kicking off this town's NHL season, their warm reception was no match for the 90 seconds of sustained booing that rumbled through the arena, drowning out most of the cheers in support of the Republican vice presidential nominee.

As Palin stepped onto the ice before a capacity crowd to drop the puck, joined by her daughters Willow and Piper, the arena's jumbotron flashed a futile message to the thousands of notoriously harsh Philadelphia sports fans in attendance.

"Flyers fans, show Philadelphia's class and welcome America's #1 hockey mom, Sarah Palin," the massive electronic message board pleaded, to little effect. Booing quickly erupted when the smiling candidate emerged from a tunnel leading onto the ice, muffling the applause of any Palin supporters in the crowd.

Some in the audience simply gave her a thumbs down gesture. Others called her names.

Palin spent about a minute and a half on center ice, posing for pictures with Flyers captain Mike Richards and New York Rangers assistant captain Scotty Gomez, an Alaska native. The crowd commotion was sustained for her entire time in the rink.

Palin's showing did not appear to help the Flyers, who looked hapless in the first period, giving up four goals to their rivals from New York. The governor stayed to watch the first two periods with family and staff in the box of Flyers owner Ed Snider, and by the time she departed the Wachovia Center for her hotel, the Flyers had narrowed the lead to 4-2.

Sarah Palin is another tool, a stunt from McCain, a political calculation to supposedly bring votes from Hillary supporters (actually their beliefs are the opposite), feminists (even though she's far from the feminist ideology), and those independents who can be easily fooled or some Jerry Springer fans who don't pay attention to details and just see cute faces and are only capable of understanding keywords ("joe six-pack", "maverick", "hockey mom", "he doesn't share our values", "pallin' around", "job creation", "drill baby drill" etc). We have seen during the last weeks that she's not, and probably never be, ready to be President or VP. She can't even answer questions that my 14 year old niece can, she barely survived the debate by repeating lines that someone wrote for her, giving non-answers and dodging the questions. Moreover she is already involved in corruption, unethical behavior and abuse of power. We need someone above the average... she's intellectually just alright. We cannot afford a "just alright person" for the hard times ahead. McCain put his political calculations first, not our country! Shame on you Sen. McCain, you should have known better!

Well, I guess all that anger and hate they have been spewing comes back to bite them.

Maybe now they will learn that if you play in the mud, its going to stick on you.

If this had occurred to Obama, the headline would be something like "racist hockey fans boo Obama".

Well – America isn't stupid. Palin is a deplorable choice for VP – guess the Philly fans aren't afraid to be express the truth, huh?

I'm delighted – and I would have been booing her the loudest had I been there....

WAY TO GO PHILADELPHIA. Send Six-Pack Sarah packing back to the frozen tundra of Alaska. Maybe after she learns to speak and gets a better command of the English language she can come back to the lower 48 and take in a game.

Looks like Palin has gone from being a Hockey Mom to a Hooey Candidate. I feel sorry though for her two daughters who had to experience that humilation, especially the younger one.

Oh, no, Democrats, please don't stoop to disrespect!!!!!! There is too much from the other side already! (It does seem ironic that the hockey mom got booed at a hockey game.) Please be totally respectful to John and Sarah. They are fellow Americans, even if they stand for issues with which you disagree. Please, fellow Democrats, stay on the high road.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Sarah Palin is BAD NEWS! I can't help but feel terrible for her little girls. It must be awful to have your "hockey mom" booed off the ice.

She is not the # Hockey mom in America. All those Moms out there who are challenged by money concerns and trying to raise and family and have their children engaged in sports such as hockey are the real #1 hockey moms.

I guess that hockey mom crap doesn't play everywhere. Anyone that would even think of voting this woman into the second highest position in America has got to be an idiot.

I grew up in PA, so I'm not surprised this happened in Philly. PA is going Obama Blue and they finally let her feel some negative vibes. THAT suprised me since she has been SO PROTECTED. I can't wait to see what the reception is here in WV tomorrow. The southern part of the state may be red, but people here know ploys and tricks when they see them. WV may turn BLUE too!!

You reap what you sow. Spread negativism and you can expect to get it right back.

So here she is just getting back a little of what she is so good at dishing out. And I can't say she doesn't deserve it.

What kind of people are McCain and Palin exciting at their rallies, McCain is outraged that the Senator states that it reminded him of the George Wallace days, remember he is a product of Civil Rights and remembers that it did not take much to excite hate, at these rallies you are hearing the word Terrorists, Kill him, the {N} word at anyone that is black at the rallies so now African American cameramen can’t go to McCain/Palin rallies anymore for fear of their life, and now you have a preacher that is stating that non religious people want Obama, give me a break, the people that are stating that they don't know Obama and he is not American are more than the republican strategist suggest, it is more than 2 or 3 nut jobs, the news station asked everyone that was going into the rally what they thought of Obama and they said words like terrorist, Arab, and not like us which were all negative word.

All analysts are stating that both campaigns should stop the negative, but if Obama stops the republicans would be very successful at swift boating him as they have other candidates because they have always been very good at keeping your mind off of them and on other's, if you go back to when Bush first ran it was very obvious to most that he was not qualified, just listening to the debates, but everyone wanted republicans in and now after 8 years look where we are at, and now they want to get back in FOR WHAT, the McCain/Palin campaign now exactly what they are doing and if Palin can make Bush seem very intelligent that is Very Scary, and this is not the 1960’s it is 2008, WOW.
