Palin booed at NHL game in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) – Although many Philadelphia Flyers fans cheered and clapped as Sarah Palin took to the ice at the Wachovia Center on Saturday night to drop the ceremonial puck kicking off this town's NHL season, their warm reception was no match for the 90 seconds of sustained booing that rumbled through the arena, drowning out most of the cheers in support of the Republican vice presidential nominee.

As Palin stepped onto the ice before a capacity crowd to drop the puck, joined by her daughters Willow and Piper, the arena's jumbotron flashed a futile message to the thousands of notoriously harsh Philadelphia sports fans in attendance.

"Flyers fans, show Philadelphia's class and welcome America's #1 hockey mom, Sarah Palin," the massive electronic message board pleaded, to little effect. Booing quickly erupted when the smiling candidate emerged from a tunnel leading onto the ice, muffling the applause of any Palin supporters in the crowd.

Some in the audience simply gave her a thumbs down gesture. Others called her names.

Palin spent about a minute and a half on center ice, posing for pictures with Flyers captain Mike Richards and New York Rangers assistant captain Scotty Gomez, an Alaska native. The crowd commotion was sustained for her entire time in the rink.

Palin's showing did not appear to help the Flyers, who looked hapless in the first period, giving up four goals to their rivals from New York. The governor stayed to watch the first two periods with family and staff in the box of Flyers owner Ed Snider, and by the time she departed the Wachovia Center for her hotel, the Flyers had narrowed the lead to 4-2.

Sad politicization of a sporting event. Sadder yet that she thought to use her young daughter as a shield against the boos.

Could it be people are aware of what the McCain camp has done to inflame the hate for Obama? We face so many problems. Now is time to stop the division that the Bush administation has created over the last eight years. Obama gets another contribution.

Common guys, I am an avid Obama fan, but show the woman some respect. Just because I don't think she's qualified to be a vice president, and I don't like her politically, doesn't mean we can be disrespectful of her personally. Not cool.

Way to go "Hockey Mom". Hope your kids enjoyed the show. You are mean, you shouldn't have subjected them to the real world. Go back to Alaska, Oh that's right you will be in three weeks. Maybe they will boo you there when you get back!

Perhaps the booing disheartened them. Apparently being a small town hockey player is not politically correct.

She got the best treatment( boo! boo!). Nobody likes her except some extreme right wing republicans and some pasters with their followers.

I can not believe that a VP candidate avoids interviews and press conferance especially when she was accused of abuse power.

She is unqualified and once again it is proved to the Amerian people.

What kind of people are McCain and Palin exciting at their rallies, McCain is outraged that the Senator states that it reminded him of the George Wallace days, remember he is a product of Civil Rights and remembers that it did not take much to excite hate, at these rallies you are hearing the word Terrorists, Kill him, the {N} word at anyone that is black at the rallies so now African American cameramen can’t go to McCain/Palin rallies anymore for fear of their life, and now you have a preacher that is stating that non religious people want Obama, give me a break, the people that are stating that they don't know Obama and he is not American are more than the republican strategist suggest, it is more than 2 or 3 nut jobs, the news station asked everyone that was going into the rally what they thought of Obama and they said words like terrorist, Arab, and not like us which were all negative word.

All analysts are stating that both campaigns should stop the negative, but if Obama stops the republicans would be very successful at swift boating him as they have other candidates because they have always been very good at keeping your mind off of them and on other's, if you go back to when Bush first ran it was very obvious to most that he was not qualified, just listening to the debates, but everyone wanted republicans in and now after 8 years look where we are at, and now they want to get back in FOR WHAT, the McCain/Palin campaign now exactly what they are doing and if Palin can make Bush seem very intelligent that is Very Scary, and this is not the 1960’s it is 2008, WOW.
