Palin booed at NHL game in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) – Although many Philadelphia Flyers fans cheered and clapped as Sarah Palin took to the ice at the Wachovia Center on Saturday night to drop the ceremonial puck kicking off this town's NHL season, their warm reception was no match for the 90 seconds of sustained booing that rumbled through the arena, drowning out most of the cheers in support of the Republican vice presidential nominee.

As Palin stepped onto the ice before a capacity crowd to drop the puck, joined by her daughters Willow and Piper, the arena's jumbotron flashed a futile message to the thousands of notoriously harsh Philadelphia sports fans in attendance.

"Flyers fans, show Philadelphia's class and welcome America's #1 hockey mom, Sarah Palin," the massive electronic message board pleaded, to little effect. Booing quickly erupted when the smiling candidate emerged from a tunnel leading onto the ice, muffling the applause of any Palin supporters in the crowd.

Some in the audience simply gave her a thumbs down gesture. Others called her names.

Palin spent about a minute and a half on center ice, posing for pictures with Flyers captain Mike Richards and New York Rangers assistant captain Scotty Gomez, an Alaska native. The crowd commotion was sustained for her entire time in the rink.

Palin's showing did not appear to help the Flyers, who looked hapless in the first period, giving up four goals to their rivals from New York. The governor stayed to watch the first two periods with family and staff in the box of Flyers owner Ed Snider, and by the time she departed the Wachovia Center for her hotel, the Flyers had narrowed the lead to 4-2.

She needs to get serious about being a vice-president candidate. She is continues to refer back to and engage in the things that she can only identify with and make short comedic jokes about Obama and Biden. She needs to understand that USA wants UNITY and our country is in need of repairing. TALK ABOUT THAT!!

What a grand stander too! McBush needs to send his light weight, smart mouthed eye candy and power abuser back to the igloo she came from!!! Good job Philly!! She got what she deserves for her hate filled speeches!

I guess when it's not a republican rally the people really don't like her. Well, I'm sure the upstanding NYC crowd will not boo her off the stage when she goes on SNL. Oh wait, I'm fairly sure that will happen. Unless SNL let's them pick the audience with nothing but pro-palin people. In which case SNL will go from political satire to just being a joke.

  4. Palin is a disgrace

Phiad people are very smart and I wonder how Palin felt when people were booing her presense. God do not like ugly and now she is being punished for her evil deeds. Palin, you need to look in the mirror before you speak neagtive about another person. You think you are abouve the law.

  5. IF OBAMA LOSES BECAUSE OF RACE, IT WILL BE SHAME ON AMERICA

I don't think the younger folks in America will put up with racism. They are more educated than the southern white folk attitudes. My plea to younger voters is: PLEASE STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT, NOT YOUR PREJUDICES! MAKE AMERICA A MODEL FOR OTHER COUNTRIES WHO ARE ALSO RACIST. DO THE RIGHT THING AND VOTE FOR OBAMA!

This is just another nail in the coffin that is called the Republican ticket. I hope that the ticket gets buried on November 4th. If a phoenix should rise from those ashes, I hope its the pre-Nixon Republiccans who valued country before conservatism. Leave the remanats of the Civil War racists without a party and without a voice. That's the faction that truly needs to fade out of power and out of memory.

She can't give a regular interview so she's reduced to throwing a hockey puck around. Awesome. What a joke. I'm glad they booed. Just because people like hockey doesn't mean they like a hate filled liar who wants to damage America more than even Bush could.

On her first appearance away from the controlled environment of a McCain-Palin rally, Sarah Palin finally finds out what the rest of America thinks of her.

Please, come on Philadelphia....doubt you would have given the same reception if Biden, or Michelle O. and her daughters had dropped the puck. Grow up and get over yourself! Glad the Flyers lost! Philadelphia teams suck.

Palin get out of my state, I am so tired of you. The booing is nothing compared to how we really feel about her.

Politics and sports don't mix. It was not a wise move by the McCain campaign to put Palin in front of the notoriously harsh and boo-eager Philladelphia crowd.

The majority of the country internally boo's her every time they see her on television, hear her on the radio, or read about her in a newspaper or on the internet. This is news in the same way saying water is wet would be news.
