Palin booed at NHL game in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) – Although many Philadelphia Flyers fans cheered and clapped as Sarah Palin took to the ice at the Wachovia Center on Saturday night to drop the ceremonial puck kicking off this town's NHL season, their warm reception was no match for the 90 seconds of sustained booing that rumbled through the arena, drowning out most of the cheers in support of the Republican vice presidential nominee.

As Palin stepped onto the ice before a capacity crowd to drop the puck, joined by her daughters Willow and Piper, the arena's jumbotron flashed a futile message to the thousands of notoriously harsh Philadelphia sports fans in attendance.

"Flyers fans, show Philadelphia's class and welcome America's #1 hockey mom, Sarah Palin," the massive electronic message board pleaded, to little effect. Booing quickly erupted when the smiling candidate emerged from a tunnel leading onto the ice, muffling the applause of any Palin supporters in the crowd.

Some in the audience simply gave her a thumbs down gesture. Others called her names.

Palin spent about a minute and a half on center ice, posing for pictures with Flyers captain Mike Richards and New York Rangers assistant captain Scotty Gomez, an Alaska native. The crowd commotion was sustained for her entire time in the rink.

Palin's showing did not appear to help the Flyers, who looked hapless in the first period, giving up four goals to their rivals from New York. The governor stayed to watch the first two periods with family and staff in the box of Flyers owner Ed Snider, and by the time she departed the Wachovia Center for her hotel, the Flyers had narrowed the lead to 4-2.

  1. End of Days for Palin

Go back to Alaska and face your impeachment, Palin! You and your abuse of power are not wanted in the lower 48.

Could she have picked a worse place than Philadelphia. They boo their own players on a nightly basis.

  3. PA for Obama

We've booed Santa Claus, the KiteMan, Michael Irvin and now the worst candidate for vice president ever nominated. Flyers' owner Ed Snider is a neocon. He funds FreedomsWatch, the same folks who slander and smear Democrats who've served honorably in the military, so it's no surprise he inflicted Palin on the fans who shell out big bucks to see his hockey team. Not only was she booed, but the crowd erupted into an Obama chant that was drowned out by the music. Poetic justice that the Rangers won.

It is appaling that she subjected her daughters to this knowing full well that this was coming. As matter of fact she took her children to the arena hoping that the sports fans would tone down their attitudes.

So much for Christians values. Truely pathetic.

Judging from the video, the Flyers were ready for this: the volume on the PA announcer and the cheesy music were maxed out to drown out the boos. Too bad it didn't work.

Maybe the power abuser should have her staff track down all those dangerously rude Flyers fans and have them fired.

I am sorry that Palin put herself in this position, but what do you expect when she has pushed the hate button. Joe 6 pack is waking up and they know the hockey mom that goes over the top is probably the worst of the worst. How can you laugh and wink and still expect the average person respect you when you don't even respect yourself. Hurray for the hockey fans!

It's unfair for the Replicans to force Palin in front of people who may not support her. They are doing the same thing w/the Nascar race. People pay to enjoy the game and/or race. Quit shoving Palin front of people who did not come with the intentions of listening to her 'crap'.

Palin has no shame. We all knew that she was and is corrupt! Yeah to Philadelphia for standing up to her farce!

Flyers' fans sure are tough, they know their hockey, they are authentic and they will not be fooled by phoney hockey moms who come into their arena to use them.

    Nice.

It's hilarious how loud the booing was. I couldn't hear one person applauding. However, it's shameful that she put her kids, oops, I mean her political props, through such a negative experience.

Thanks, but no thanks, to Cheney with lipstick.

I would boo too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She should be back in her hotel room looking up true information about President Obama to be. I feel Palin has done enough damage. Soon she will be going back to Alaska to face her own demonds and will have to account for them. Her popularity has DECREASED TO 60%. Palin has a lot of growing up to do before she cn tackle the big guys again! Good By Palin.

That makes me feel good, people are beginning to see Sarah Palin for what she really is a nasty, toxic person......her days of look at me I am so special are over.....we have her number now.
This campaign has been vile and due in part to Sarah Palin and her vicious and inciteful nature of her speeches.....she and McCain have gone too far and people are sick of it.
It suprises me that she has the nerve to go out and show off like she does when she just been found guilty of abuse of power.....this woman has no shame or morals and is so power hungary she is oblivious to how other people view her.

I APPLAUD ALL THOSE WHO BOOED HER!!!

GOOD! This woman deserves to be booed for the dangerous rhetoric she has been throwing out to the volitale crowds she speaks to. Maybe they should have shouted "terrorist".

Wow! That's comforting. At least the fans aren't giving in to the hockey mom mythos that McCain/Palin have created. This shows that people are really looking past the rhetoric to the real issues. No amount of window dressing is going to hide the fact that McCain/Palin represent a continuation into the same direction as the last 8 years.
