Palin booed at NHL game in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) – Although many Philadelphia Flyers fans cheered and clapped as Sarah Palin took to the ice at the Wachovia Center on Saturday night to drop the ceremonial puck kicking off this town's NHL season, their warm reception was no match for the 90 seconds of sustained booing that rumbled through the arena, drowning out most of the cheers in support of the Republican vice presidential nominee.

As Palin stepped onto the ice before a capacity crowd to drop the puck, joined by her daughters Willow and Piper, the arena's jumbotron flashed a futile message to the thousands of notoriously harsh Philadelphia sports fans in attendance.

"Flyers fans, show Philadelphia's class and welcome America's #1 hockey mom, Sarah Palin," the massive electronic message board pleaded, to little effect. Booing quickly erupted when the smiling candidate emerged from a tunnel leading onto the ice, muffling the applause of any Palin supporters in the crowd.

Some in the audience simply gave her a thumbs down gesture. Others called her names.

Palin spent about a minute and a half on center ice, posing for pictures with Flyers captain Mike Richards and New York Rangers assistant captain Scotty Gomez, an Alaska native. The crowd commotion was sustained for her entire time in the rink.

Palin's showing did not appear to help the Flyers, who looked hapless in the first period, giving up four goals to their rivals from New York. The governor stayed to watch the first two periods with family and staff in the box of Flyers owner Ed Snider, and by the time she departed the Wachovia Center for her hotel, the Flyers had narrowed the lead to 4-2.

Thankfully Americans everywhere are starting to push back on Sarah Palin to let her and the Mccain campaign know that her words and her actions are despicable. In a time when our country needs to come together to work through great challenges McCain and Palin can only spew hate. McCain calling upon Obama to repudiate Lewis is laughable. McCain should ask Americans for forgiveness for running a campaign so and unless he does he risks losing all credibility and dignity. McCain and Palin have proven only one thing and that is they are not worthy to be President and Vice President of this Great Nation!!!

Sounds like the good people of Philadelphia know the difference between a "real American soccer mom" and a complete phony.

Go back to Alaska honey, you're in WAY over your head.

I like those Flyers' fans. Just because Mrs. Palin is a hockey mom doesn't mean she is qualified to be vice-president. In addition, she has stoked the fires of decent and is now feeling the aftereffects. How do you like being booed Mrs. Palin?? Enjoy the limelight while it lasts because it is fading fast.

Of all places to go Palin, you decide to try and show your hockey mom skills in Philly? What were you thinking? Is this campaign seriously trying to lose? They can't even pick the right hockey game to go to. And a couple weeks after she was booed out of a pub.....IN PHILLY!!!

Well deserved!!! Glad to see that the American people are not willing to support such ugly and divisive tactics that both McCain and Palin have resorted to.

Why is anybody surprised that this happened. If the Philadelphia fans can boo Santa Claus, Sarah Palin is fair game. And by the way, she's not America's number one hockey mom and, hopefully, will never be.

The constant barrage of personal attacks against Barack, laden with hate code terminology, resulting in overt racist responses from the McCain supporters has reached its limit. Palin's experience on the ice is an indication that American's by far are over this type of negative campaigning...especially in the midst of a global depression!

Democrats are afraid of Palin, it seems. Name calling, investigations by partisans, and other tricks do not matter much.

This very good news for Obama supporters, as Pennsylvania is considered an important battle ground and Philadelphia one of the more important areas of the state. It's not a scientific poll or anything but it nonetheless suggests of a strong undercurrent of dislike for Palin and for the Republican ticket.
