Palin booed at NHL game in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) – Although many Philadelphia Flyers fans cheered and clapped as Sarah Palin took to the ice at the Wachovia Center on Saturday night to drop the ceremonial puck kicking off this town's NHL season, their warm reception was no match for the 90 seconds of sustained booing that rumbled through the arena, drowning out most of the cheers in support of the Republican vice presidential nominee.

As Palin stepped onto the ice before a capacity crowd to drop the puck, joined by her daughters Willow and Piper, the arena's jumbotron flashed a futile message to the thousands of notoriously harsh Philadelphia sports fans in attendance.

"Flyers fans, show Philadelphia's class and welcome America's #1 hockey mom, Sarah Palin," the massive electronic message board pleaded, to little effect. Booing quickly erupted when the smiling candidate emerged from a tunnel leading onto the ice, muffling the applause of any Palin supporters in the crowd.

Some in the audience simply gave her a thumbs down gesture. Others called her names.

Palin spent about a minute and a half on center ice, posing for pictures with Flyers captain Mike Richards and New York Rangers assistant captain Scotty Gomez, an Alaska native. The crowd commotion was sustained for her entire time in the rink.

Palin's showing did not appear to help the Flyers, who looked hapless in the first period, giving up four goals to their rivals from New York. The governor stayed to watch the first two periods with family and staff in the box of Flyers owner Ed Snider, and by the time she departed the Wachovia Center for her hotel, the Flyers had narrowed the lead to 4-2.

Go Philly. The fans make me proud to have grown up in the City of Brotherly Love. Philadelphians don't suffer fools too easily.....The story made me smile. Palin got exactly the reception she deserved. She should head back to Alaska and hunt some wolves from a helicopter....

I am not a Palin fan at all but it is too bad that her children had to endure being booed. She is an adult politician and can take it. I felt badly for her children.

Check it out on youtube.com. Notice the Obama/Biden signs in the audience! Priceless! They couldn't blast the music loud enough to drown out the boos!

You're hate filled rallies have provided a springboard for racial division and violence in America. Sarah, "Thanks, but no thanks", go back to your church and review again the scriptures you left behind in Alaska. Start with "Love the Lord with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself'"

Also, what kind of a mother takes her kids out on the ice to be booed at with her after they've had to watch Mommy rally up the hate crowds all day? I'm all for a women in the highest office but not this woman. She doesn't know the first thing about dignity or respect or honesty!!!

I guess the people in Philly are just plain rude. I don't care if I don't like someone, I'd never boo them in any situation. I don't like Obama, but I wouldn't boo the man if he stepped onto center ice. This is just sad that some people have to show just how narrow-minded they really are.

Doesn't she get that, except for right wing nuts and so-called 'Chrisitan' hypocrites, no one in this country wants her around. Sarah, go away before somebody drops a house on you...

I AM A MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER..AND I BELIEVE WOMEN CAN WORK AND BE A GOOD WIFE AND MOTHER. BUT ..IN THIS CASE...SHE ALREADY HAS A DAUGHTER WHO IS PREGNANT AND
A HANDICAP CHILD. THEN...IT IS TIME TO STAY HOME AND RAISE YOUR FAMILY. HER SIX YEAR OLD.ALSO, IS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR ATTENTION.

HER DAUGHTERS BOYFRIEND SAID ON HIS MY SPACE PAGE...HE DID NOT WANT CHILDREN...OF COURSE, IT WAS PULLED OFF.

Hey Sarah, could you deliver that "boo" message to your keeper?

Wait, may be they weren't say "boo" at all. May be they were saying "you betchaaaaaaa...."

I want to personally thank the Flyers for giving us Americans the opportunity to express our true feelings about your “Failing Hockey Mom”. So many of us ask you not to allow Sarah on the ice. Now see what you done. You allowed us to boo her off the ice. Nothing less than she deserves. I can predict you have lost many loyal fans, due to your actions. I hope it was worth it for you. So much for your principles.

Right on Philly! Hopefully, the McCain campaign will REALIZE that what they have created through their message of fear and hate is being rejected by the majority of Americans, regardless of party lines. We've had enough of it. Sarah Palin is unequivocally unqualified to serve in any political position. She needs to bow out, and return to moose hunting and the PTA.
