Palin booed at NHL game in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) – Although many Philadelphia Flyers fans cheered and clapped as Sarah Palin took to the ice at the Wachovia Center on Saturday night to drop the ceremonial puck kicking off this town's NHL season, their warm reception was no match for the 90 seconds of sustained booing that rumbled through the arena, drowning out most of the cheers in support of the Republican vice presidential nominee.

As Palin stepped onto the ice before a capacity crowd to drop the puck, joined by her daughters Willow and Piper, the arena's jumbotron flashed a futile message to the thousands of notoriously harsh Philadelphia sports fans in attendance.

"Flyers fans, show Philadelphia's class and welcome America's #1 hockey mom, Sarah Palin," the massive electronic message board pleaded, to little effect. Booing quickly erupted when the smiling candidate emerged from a tunnel leading onto the ice, muffling the applause of any Palin supporters in the crowd.

Some in the audience simply gave her a thumbs down gesture. Others called her names.

Palin spent about a minute and a half on center ice, posing for pictures with Flyers captain Mike Richards and New York Rangers assistant captain Scotty Gomez, an Alaska native. The crowd commotion was sustained for her entire time in the rink.

Palin's showing did not appear to help the Flyers, who looked hapless in the first period, giving up four goals to their rivals from New York. The governor stayed to watch the first two periods with family and staff in the box of Flyers owner Ed Snider, and by the time she departed the Wachovia Center for her hotel, the Flyers had narrowed the lead to 4-2.

The owner of the Philadelphia Flyers should have anticipated the reaction she would receive. The increasingly "hostile" tone of McCain-Palin rally's should have been his first clue. I am thankful nothing was thrown on the ice especially with her two daughters with her.

If Flyers have a bad season, it's a Palin curse. Why oh why would you open the season with a highly controversial, unpopular figure dropping the puck? When boos reign in a stadium before the first game even starts, ugh, that is a bad omen. I am generally not superstitious, but I am not happy about her presence. Score is now 4 – 3 at least. Go Flyers!

GOOD! I HOPE THE REPUBLICANS RECONSIDER GIVING THIS WOMAN A LEADERSHIP POSITION IN THEIR PARTY. I don't think she is an accurate representation and I'm a democrat!!!

Let's put the last nail in the coffin of bigotry. Put someone in office base on character content and not color or sex.

Obama please overhaul the education system. Too many idiots out there.

Sometimes you get the bear. Sometimes the bear gets you. Could Mrs. Palin be getting a backlash to the venom she has spewed for the last week? Go back to Alaska, Sister. People see through your talking points and the hate you have stirred. Abuse of power is the tool of those who can't accomplish goals by their own expertise. There is position power, personal power, and the true power of leadership. Without position power, she is a nothing.

Flyers fans showed what the rest of us think – she doesn't represent anyone but herself.

Send her back to the Wasilla ice sheet where she belongs! Of course, she can always stop at the Wrangell mountains for the mud pots and mud volcanoes.

    I feel for you Alaskans!

I heard an old saying that goes something like this...You can fool some of the people some of the time....and you can fool most of the people most of the time....but...you can't fool all the people all the time. Time out for playin on people intelligence. We the people have spoken.

It was stupid of her to show up, when not everybody is in support of her and her grandfather. You only show up, when it's people in support and maybe I miss something, but Obama is pretty steady up in the polls there. They should give up on Penn and go to the toss up states because it ain't going to happen here. Go Philly, you did the right thing by booing that fake power abuser. "Guilty is Guilty" and the fact she has Todd doing some of her dirty work. No wonder he was named "the Shadow Governor", it does the dirty work undercover, but not very good at it cause he was caught.

Sarah Palin is the furthest thing from a true hockey mom. She had one son many years ago in hockey and never took part in what a real hockey mom does. Real hockey Moms are "community organizers" that do not insult the other teams. They chher for their team and put family first. They champion free choice.Hockey Moms around the world despise hate. Hockey Moms are with their kids 24-7 and do not spew hatred towards others.True Hockey Moms are the salt of the earth.

    God Bless Philadelphia!

What is the real shame is she subjected her children to that. They don't need to be booed because she is a hate monger.
