Palin booed at NHL game in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) – Although many Philadelphia Flyers fans cheered and clapped as Sarah Palin took to the ice at the Wachovia Center on Saturday night to drop the ceremonial puck kicking off this town's NHL season, their warm reception was no match for the 90 seconds of sustained booing that rumbled through the arena, drowning out most of the cheers in support of the Republican vice presidential nominee.

As Palin stepped onto the ice before a capacity crowd to drop the puck, joined by her daughters Willow and Piper, the arena's jumbotron flashed a futile message to the thousands of notoriously harsh Philadelphia sports fans in attendance.

"Flyers fans, show Philadelphia's class and welcome America's #1 hockey mom, Sarah Palin," the massive electronic message board pleaded, to little effect. Booing quickly erupted when the smiling candidate emerged from a tunnel leading onto the ice, muffling the applause of any Palin supporters in the crowd.

Some in the audience simply gave her a thumbs down gesture. Others called her names.

Palin spent about a minute and a half on center ice, posing for pictures with Flyers captain Mike Richards and New York Rangers assistant captain Scotty Gomez, an Alaska native. The crowd commotion was sustained for her entire time in the rink.

Palin's showing did not appear to help the Flyers, who looked hapless in the first period, giving up four goals to their rivals from New York. The governor stayed to watch the first two periods with family and staff in the box of Flyers owner Ed Snider, and by the time she departed the Wachovia Center for her hotel, the Flyers had narrowed the lead to 4-2.

She needs to be booed back to Alaska. People are starting to realize how incompetent she is as a candidate. Every time she opens her mouth adds points to the Obama side.

Nice to see that at least the Philly fans know a lying, phony inexperienced, hate mongering candidate when they see one. I wonder if she would come to New York, perhaps for a Ranger game.

TYPICAL RADICAL OBAMA SUPPORTERS WHO DON'T UNDERSTAND DEMOCRACY AND RESPECT FOR WOMEN. THEY BELIEVE THAT AMERICA SHOULD BE RULED ONLY BY MEN.

Well, people are angry at the kind of campaign Palin and McCain have been running. It seems obvious to me that Phili fans do not appreciate the "hockey mom" as much as she thought they might.

Palin needs to wake up and see what's happening to their campaign. It is turning out to be a mockery and a joke. I can't see how America can support the Republicans to lead our country. McCain can't even contain those pathetic losers at his campaign and Palin's character is starting to look like Miss Piggy with lipstick. What a joke!!!! The person to blame for the Republicans demise is McCain. He thought he could get the votes of Hillary when he picked-up Palin; however, he is now regretting his choice of VP and I bet he now wishes he had chosen either Romney or possibly Huckabee. The true winner at the end will be Obama and Biden. Watch how Presidential both of them look when they are conducting their speeches during their campaign and debates. The more McCain and Palin speak, the more Obama and Biden will increase in their lead in all polls. Time for the Republicans to shut-down operation. Aloha from Hawaii!!!!!!

Way to go Philadelphia. It's about time that Palin got some of her own medicine. She has been spewing so much hatred–I hope that she realizes now that the vast majority of Americans don't like what she has been doing and aren't afraid to let her know it. I hope that this is the beginning of the end of Sarah Palin.

Go back to Alaska and deal with your ethics violations, Palin–we don't want your kind of politics in the lower forty-eight.

This is the most ridiculous campaign I have seen in my whole life. How in the world Mc/Palin campaign can run away from these kind of comments saying they do not believe in it when it is said in one of their own campaign to their supporters. If they want to correct these kind of pastors, they should do that in front of that same audience right there, not afterwards. It looks like they are trying to really dividing this ailing nation and not sure where is their true love that they claim for the country. I am simply amazed how a true Christian will ever say some thing like this!!!

Go Philidelphians! Wish I would have been there to join in the booing! What a disgrace to women, not a role model (unless you think winking during a debate is fine). She has lowered standards for women. After equating Obama with terrorists, what do you expect?

She should be booed, this woman is a terrible example of a U.S. Governor. People around the world listen to her speak and laugh falsely believing that this is the 'Best' America can produce.
