Palin booed at NHL game in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) – Although many Philadelphia Flyers fans cheered and clapped as Sarah Palin took to the ice at the Wachovia Center on Saturday night to drop the ceremonial puck kicking off this town's NHL season, their warm reception was no match for the 90 seconds of sustained booing that rumbled through the arena, drowning out most of the cheers in support of the Republican vice presidential nominee.

As Palin stepped onto the ice before a capacity crowd to drop the puck, joined by her daughters Willow and Piper, the arena's jumbotron flashed a futile message to the thousands of notoriously harsh Philadelphia sports fans in attendance.

"Flyers fans, show Philadelphia's class and welcome America's #1 hockey mom, Sarah Palin," the massive electronic message board pleaded, to little effect. Booing quickly erupted when the smiling candidate emerged from a tunnel leading onto the ice, muffling the applause of any Palin supporters in the crowd.

Some in the audience simply gave her a thumbs down gesture. Others called her names.

Palin spent about a minute and a half on center ice, posing for pictures with Flyers captain Mike Richards and New York Rangers assistant captain Scotty Gomez, an Alaska native. The crowd commotion was sustained for her entire time in the rink.

Palin's showing did not appear to help the Flyers, who looked hapless in the first period, giving up four goals to their rivals from New York. The governor stayed to watch the first two periods with family and staff in the box of Flyers owner Ed Snider, and by the time she departed the Wachovia Center for her hotel, the Flyers had narrowed the lead to 4-2.

Must have been a real shock to her to find out that Americans have brains and we all don't march lock step in tune with the right wing conservative base that has embraced her.

Her own kind don't even like her! That says it all right there. Go home Palin, no one likes you in case you haven't noticed yet.

Awwww...not all hockey moms are "fanatics," are they, Sarah?

Guess ultra-conservative, nut-case crowds are the ONLY ones cheering for you from the FAR right...you just lost the campaign for your new friend, John McCain! He shot himself in the foot when he brought you on board. You better believe it!

Tsk, tsk. You know God rewards those who play fair and without hatred and bigotry and punishes those who sow seeds of discord and division. You didn't understand that from reading the Good Book? But hey, good luck back in Alaska! When the dust settles, you can settle down and be a good little grandma to your teen daughter's illegitimate little bundle of joy. YOU betcha!

I always liked hockey. Palin kinda started ruining it for me for a while back there (what with all the "Hockey-mom" gibberish), but now it's all good.

Ummm – I guess ole' Sarah P. (and J.M.) should take the response as a sign that they aren't as "popular" as they would have hoped. Sure it's one thing to be received sooo warmly when their out on the campaign trail but these were REAL people and not just folk's who think or believe that they're going to save them from that terrible terrible Obama. What a shame to have one's children with you when you're given a resounding booooo. Mommy what does booo mean?
Uhh I guess it means that we're really popular honey. Now go to bed...

Hate brings back hate! She brought this all on herself. I just wished she didn't drag those sweet children into all of this madness. Todd Palin should have been watching his kids instead of "playing" Governor of Alaska. How is he going to hold "Governor" meetings with the Alaskan officials, while Palin wasn't around. How can she control the country (if McCain dies) if she can't even control her own man! Todd stay home and take care of your children. Your wife does not need you as a shadow, but your children NEED a parent!

LOL! What do you think of 'Joe Six-Pack' now, Palin? Your cutesy, ditzy persona is NOT what we need in the White House! You're telling me of the MANY qualified, intelligent women Republicans to choose from, this is the best McCain could do? She couldn't get a warm reception amongst her hockey 'peers'!

in my opinion, that's just plain disrespectful. i'm probably voting obama-biden, but that's still not right.

sometimes i wish this country still had the aspect of respect, especially when it comes to our leaders, even if we may disagree with them.

Serves her and the McCain campaign right. They shouldn't be pushing her off where people don't want her...oh wait...that would be as a VP candidate as most people in America see right through her and don't think she belongs here.
