Palin booed at NHL game in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) – Although many Philadelphia Flyers fans cheered and clapped as Sarah Palin took to the ice at the Wachovia Center on Saturday night to drop the ceremonial puck kicking off this town's NHL season, their warm reception was no match for the 90 seconds of sustained booing that rumbled through the arena, drowning out most of the cheers in support of the Republican vice presidential nominee.

As Palin stepped onto the ice before a capacity crowd to drop the puck, joined by her daughters Willow and Piper, the arena's jumbotron flashed a futile message to the thousands of notoriously harsh Philadelphia sports fans in attendance.

"Flyers fans, show Philadelphia's class and welcome America's #1 hockey mom, Sarah Palin," the massive electronic message board pleaded, to little effect. Booing quickly erupted when the smiling candidate emerged from a tunnel leading onto the ice, muffling the applause of any Palin supporters in the crowd.

Some in the audience simply gave her a thumbs down gesture. Others called her names.

Palin spent about a minute and a half on center ice, posing for pictures with Flyers captain Mike Richards and New York Rangers assistant captain Scotty Gomez, an Alaska native. The crowd commotion was sustained for her entire time in the rink.

Palin's showing did not appear to help the Flyers, who looked hapless in the first period, giving up four goals to their rivals from New York. The governor stayed to watch the first two periods with family and staff in the box of Flyers owner Ed Snider, and by the time she departed the Wachovia Center for her hotel, the Flyers had narrowed the lead to 4-2.

If she was truly a hockey mom then she should have known that she was going to get booed; so why in the world would she bring her young daughter to this event...How stupid can the McCain camp really be? geezzz

They tried to turn the PA up louder to drown out the boos. Didn't work. Ed Snider should be ashamed of himself.

  4. Palin is Incompetent and Unfit

Thank goodness Americans are finally standing up for the real and decent candidates of Obama and Biden and rejecting the false and hate-mongering tactics of McCain and Palin.
Palin has been caught and convicted of abuse of power and ethics violations in her State. These are impeachable offenses under the Alaska legislature.
We have already seen how ignorant and foolish she is. We have certainly seen the level of hatred, rage, and violence she openly causes and supports against Obama. The Secret Service is now investigating the McCain and Palin campaign for the tone and violence they are promoting. It rises to the level of Hate Crimes and is a Federal offense to threaten the life of a Presidential candidate.
McCain today acts "shocked' when one of his closest friends, the honorable John Lewis of Georgia, calls him down for the hatred, intolerance, and violence he is inciting and not denouncing. I am "shocked" McCain and Palin have not been arrested for what we have witnessed by them this week.
I can barely find words for how appalling their words and behavior are. They are disgusting and certainly are not Presidential material. The only thing they lead is hate, rage, and violence rallies. They are both unfit for office. Their own Party is denouncing them and yet they are still unrepentent. Is this what we want as examples for our children as to how our leaders behave?
I mute the TV every time a McCain ad comes on TV because I know it will be nothing but lies and hate language. I think the media should take a moral stand and stop running McCain ads and stop covering their hate rallies. The crowds are even now attacking the media at their events with racial slurs. The media should stay away.
Palin should be booed everywhere she appears. She is a disgrace. She is a hypocrite to the so-called religion she proclaims. She and McCain both are proven liars. FactCheckers have found 90% of their slander of Obama to be false and misleading. The truth doesn't matter to them. They just keep repeating the same lies that have been discredited over and over.
McCain and Palin should apologize to the nation for the level of hate and lies they have brought before us. Never have we seen such appalling behavior in a national campaign. They should be ashamed and the Republican Party should be ashamed of the image these two portray.
McCain and Palin are unfit for office. They have no decency, no character, and no integrity left. McCain is too old and Palin is totally incompetent. All Americans should reject their words and their behavior and send both back to the holes they crawled out of. Talk about un-American!

Sarah-time to take the gloves off even if McCain is afraid. Your huge audiences (60,000 in Orlando and 100,000 coming up Monday in Virginia, and the 70 million who watched your debate) all want you to take charge of this campaign and bring it home. Listen to the people and you will overcome.

  6. Former Republican forObama

Proves people in the real world are tired of the Palin stunts. It's the economy stupid. The sad thing is after this campaign she won't have a career left in politics, she's too stupid to realise Mccain is going to recover just fine after they loose, while she gets to do all the dirty work and get blamed. Even now, people are excusing Mccain as a conglicted man who is being forced to go negative, while painting Sarah Paling has a mean spirited, rascist, war mongering, radical fanatic!!

LOL!!!! I think I love you Philadelphia!!!! Tables have turned. She didn't seem to mind having people boo Obama at her rallies, now she sees how it feels to be booed! What goes around comes around As I recall McCain was booed on the trail when he visited a factory Looks like calling yourself a hockey mom isn't going to seal the deal, Sarah! By the way, aren't her children supposed to be in school. I know that this is a Saturday night, but it seems like they spend a lot of time on the campaign trail – all except for Bristol that is. I remember seeing them at the debate and that was for sure a school night.

GOOD... she deserved a good set of robust boos. I can't wait until this election is over. The republicans are really starting to look like a band of domestic terrorist themselves. So hateful and then have the nerve to claim so much faith and religous riteousness.

I watched several videos of this and I love how they had to crank up the music in an attempt to drown out the BOOs for Palin. She's no hockey mom and every woman/mom I have talked to is offended by her claims of being this "hockey mom" and trying to use that to relate herself to everyday people. She deserved it, tells you what america really thinks of her.

Palin was found to be unethical

Palin is married to a separatist

Palin put her town in debt by the time she left her position as mayor.

Palin intially OKed the "bridge to nowhere" until she was pressured to stop it.

Palin OKed the "road to nowhere"

Palin was pathetic in answering questions from Katie Couric.

The Flyers fans felt they were seeing Bush when they saw Palin.
