Palin booed at NHL game in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) – Although many Philadelphia Flyers fans cheered and clapped as Sarah Palin took to the ice at the Wachovia Center on Saturday night to drop the ceremonial puck kicking off this town's NHL season, their warm reception was no match for the 90 seconds of sustained booing that rumbled through the arena, drowning out most of the cheers in support of the Republican vice presidential nominee.

As Palin stepped onto the ice before a capacity crowd to drop the puck, joined by her daughters Willow and Piper, the arena's jumbotron flashed a futile message to the thousands of notoriously harsh Philadelphia sports fans in attendance.

"Flyers fans, show Philadelphia's class and welcome America's #1 hockey mom, Sarah Palin," the massive electronic message board pleaded, to little effect. Booing quickly erupted when the smiling candidate emerged from a tunnel leading onto the ice, muffling the applause of any Palin supporters in the crowd.

Some in the audience simply gave her a thumbs down gesture. Others called her names.

Palin spent about a minute and a half on center ice, posing for pictures with Flyers captain Mike Richards and New York Rangers assistant captain Scotty Gomez, an Alaska native. The crowd commotion was sustained for her entire time in the rink.

Palin's showing did not appear to help the Flyers, who looked hapless in the first period, giving up four goals to their rivals from New York. The governor stayed to watch the first two periods with family and staff in the box of Flyers owner Ed Snider, and by the time she departed the Wachovia Center for her hotel, the Flyers had narrowed the lead to 4-2.

I think I see empty seats in that team's future. What an idiot stunt.

This is the first time in my life I've been proud of Philly fans. I mostly despise them as a Sabres fan.

Doesn't feel too good, does it, Governor?

Now imagine if they were calling for your head.

Perhaps you should learn something from this.

This is funny!!! As much as CNN displays her as the Republican savior, the truth is now out. On those who would almost never vote for a democrat, but these days everyone is switching sides, actually likes her.

She is a disgrace. I am so sick and tired of hearing her name. This is not a joke people. Our country is on the line. WAKE UP!!! We can not afford to have Palin playing games, winking, allowing her husband who was not elected to run things, or hiding from the public until she thinks it is convenient.

Nice try Republicans. Next time present a woman that has the talent and skills to fill the office and mayne you can draw us simply because it's a she.

Maybe now she'll go home. She shouldn't be draggin' her kids around every place she goes. Especially since she's spewing hate all over the place.

    So sick of her :(

They might have booed Santa Claus, but I applaud the city of Philadelphia for giving her what she deserves. She has caused a lot of trouble and stir up a lot of radical smears. I hope she gets impeached as the Governor of Alaska. She is corrupt.

I'm glad most people see Palin for what she is, a dangerous vindictive power-hungry religious fanatic.

The republicans managed to slip Bush into the Whitehouse by appealing to the religious right, the racists and the rich, even though their goals are not compatible. Joe Redneck hardly benefits from trickle down economics. We all know what runs downhill and it isn't money.

If McCain thought he steal this race by using Palin to grab the religious vote he is sorely mistaken. Last time the democrats underestimated the fervor with which the religious lunatics will mobilize and act. As a result the country has suffered for the past four years. It won't happen this time around. We're going to send Palin packing, back to Alaska where she belongs.

Anyone who claims to know God's will is a dangerous lunatic and the last kind of person you need in government. Palin said the war with Iraq is God's will. Sounds strikingly familiar, isn't that what the terrorist say?

Sarah Palin needs to step down. That's the only way McCain can win.

Hee. It's about time she gets an idea of how much she is truly despised and disrespected in the real world, and for good reason. She deserves absolutely NO respect given her utter lack of respect for our side in recent weeks. However, given that the McHoover camp will probably try to equate this to their crowds' despicable antics of late, I just wish the Philly crowd would have met her with deafening silence, instead. Probably would have been more powerful. But oh well.

The boos were deafening, yet it didn't affect Palin in the least as she walked out there all smiles. She's a shameless, hate-filled, ice-cold nutty, who doesn't give a crap what anyone thinks...she just wants power, and she will stoop to the lowest of lows to get there.
