Palin denies abusing power in trooper case

Palin made her first comments Saturday since the ethics report was released.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (CNN) – Sarah Palin on Saturday denied abusing her power or violating state law in the dismissal of Alaska’s Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, putting her at odds with the findings of a state ethics report that determined she did abuse her power as governor.

As the Republican vice presidential nominee departed her Pittsburgh hotel on Saturday morning, a reporter asked Palin if she abused her power in firing Monegan, which was the conclusion of the state investigator's report released late Friday.

“No, and if you read the read the report you will see that there was nothing unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member," Palin responded before boarding her campaign bus. "You got to read the report, sir."

Palin had the authority to fire Monegan, but the report by former Anchorage prosecutor Stephen Branchflower concluded that she abused her power as Alaska's governor and violated state ethics law by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law, Mike Wooten, fired from the state police.

"Gov. Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda," the report states.

Liar! She's never going to admit she abused her power. Smoke and mirrors.

Palin believes global warming is not man made.
Palin believes dinosaurs fossils were put by God for some strange reason.
Palin believes a preacher who terrorised women back in Africa could protect her from evil.

She is at odds with reality, plain and simple. Now it is time to step down. You're making Cheney way too jealous.

Just what we need in the White House, another Republican who thinks the laws of our land don't apply to her. As an aside, though I don't agree with Senator McCain's politics (or his pick of Sarah Palin), kudos to him yesterday in MN for backtracking on the hate speak. I didn't recognize America last week and it was frightening.

Palin is obviously as corrupt at the rest of the BUSH/CHENEY/MCCAIN REPUBLICAN LYING MACHINE

After seeing Mrs. Palin at McCain/Palin rallies, I have no doubt that this woman would abuse her powers if she has the chance. She and McCain are getting so desperate to win that both of them are becoming dangerous.

If Sarah Moosejaw had any credibility before this report came out, it's all gone now. Glad to see that she's become an albatross around McCain's neck.

    Its funny,

These people seem to want to blame Obama for everything. If your pay check comes two days after its supposed to, It's Obama's fault, if the Phillies doesn't make it to the World Series, it's Obama's fault, If your daughter fails her next Algebra's test, its Obama's fault. Why don't Sarah Palin be the "Christian" who she claims to be and just admit she did something stupid and she's sorry instead of blaming her own misfortunes on Obama

Let me see if I got this right: Sarah Palin abused her power but did not break any laws. That means, basically let someone do your dirty work for you, and you get a golden parachute. However, according to ALL the Republican strategists, columnists, news media, it is so trivial, not worth discussing. Shame on you McCain, Palin and all their supporters.

If you want a State Trooper that is drinking on duty and tasers his own step son then you desreve what ever he or she does to you when you are pulled over and open your smart mouth. Maybe we can see you get tasered on TV and I will not feel soory for you! McCain/Palin is still voting for the lesser of two evils since Obama told the Germans in his World Tour that he wanted European Socialism in America which is unconstitutional but with the liberal judges he and Biden pick they will make law so it happens.

So, let me get this right - Reformers and Mavericks are found to have "unlawfully abused their power" by an independent investigation asked for by a bipartisan legislative committee, and then they lie to the press and thus, to the American people about it?

Wow. That does not sound like the change we need to me.

Neither does it sound like a reformer.

Apparently she didn't read the report, which isn't surprising since she doesn't read anything.

With the lies and abuse of power proven, how can evangelicals support the GOP actions with a clear conscience. GOP leaders appear to be against everything in the new testament.

You abused power, period!! We've had years and years of having to endure an abuse of power. No more, little lady. Skip on home, granny.

She can pick and choose details – but the report says she abused her power and the people's trust by trying to have the trooper fired!!! We don't need another four years of power abuse by the Pres or Veep. Enough!!!

ya know if she just came out and said she got too emotionally involved in the Wootan thing because of the things he did .. people would get it ya betchya...

Republicans need to learn how to take responsibility for their actions.

There are some police and state troopers that think they are above the law just because of a badge and gun, if a state trooper was a brother-in-law of most of us and repeatedly abused his spouse and threatened a father, I believe we would all want the LAW lived up to even if we were a state official or a common citizen......
