Palin denies abusing power in trooper case

Palin made her first comments Saturday since the ethics report was released.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (CNN) – Sarah Palin on Saturday denied abusing her power or violating state law in the dismissal of Alaska’s Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, putting her at odds with the findings of a state ethics report that determined she did abuse her power as governor.

As the Republican vice presidential nominee departed her Pittsburgh hotel on Saturday morning, a reporter asked Palin if she abused her power in firing Monegan, which was the conclusion of the state investigator's report released late Friday.

“No, and if you read the read the report you will see that there was nothing unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member," Palin responded before boarding her campaign bus. "You got to read the report, sir."

Palin had the authority to fire Monegan, but the report by former Anchorage prosecutor Stephen Branchflower concluded that she abused her power as Alaska's governor and violated state ethics law by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law, Mike Wooten, fired from the state police.

"Gov. Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda," the report states.

"maverick" or anarchist. Take your pick.
Lets have a jury trial so we can take the politics out of it.

Ha! What did you expect? Real life isn't like an old episode of Perry Mason, where the guilty party jumps up and yells, "I did it!"

It's very disturbing that the governor's office in Alaska was seemingly controlled by Palin's husband, rather than the governor herself. This should be investigated more thoroughly.

From the woman whose rambling answers to questions in interviews and the debate made no sense, it doesn't surprise me that she doesn't understand the report.

They needed to draw pictures for her.

This is outrageous, actually. She was found to have behaved unethically and not only is she going to deny that, she's going to spin it (as will the campaign) that legality is the only thing that matters.

So, be unethical, kids, as long as ya don't break the law *wink*

  6. WHAT? MCCRYPT DEFENDS OBAMA AT A KKK RALLY? HAS MCCRYPT FOUND HIS LONG LOST DIGINTY. DOES HIS CAMPAIGN HAVE A CHANCE? NAH, NOT WITH THAT 150 POUND ANCHOR FROM THE U.S.S. FAILIN’ PALIN STILL AROUND HIS NECK.

And here I thought the abuse of power and the belief that the Constitution was "flexible" were basic qualifications to be a Reptilian!

"Read the report" . . . "there was nothing unethical." Now I'm even more concerned for the Republican ticket. On top of everything else, Sarah Palin cannot read.

And prisons are full of women and men who claim they are innocent.

She is guilty of abuse of power. A bi-partisan review, initiated by a Republican, was made and the findings are Palin is guilty of abuse of power. What's troubling is she refuses to own up to wrong doing thereby giving her license to do as she wants, regardless of the rules.

Just what we don't need: another politician who lies through their teeth after being found guilty.

This behavior (amoung other things) is why we can not let Sarah Palin or John McCain anywhere near the White House... We have already had 8 years of abuse of power. We will be lucky if we survive 3 more months, let alone 4 more years.

Not only did she abuse her power, but allowed her husband, First Dude, to run the governor's office. He was not then elected official! This explains all the working from home and firing of knowledgeable people in positions that might work directly with her to see how incompetent she was. It also explains mayors and legislators unable to locate her. She was hiding out! She didn't want anyone to find out how little she really knew. The text messaging, cell phone calls and emails to her husband in the middle of meetings were due to her inability to discuss any problems. She would often tell the others to proceed without her while she took calls so she could find out what to do or say. Alaskans should recall and impeach her. She was NEVER competent to be governor, let alone V.P. She had a city manager to cover for her as a mayor and still managed to leave them 22 million in the hole. She doesn't just lie, she lives a lie and is a lie.

'You got to read the report, sir'. He should have said, 'I did, you moron, it says you abused your power.' She CAN NOT tell the truth about ANYTHING.

Nice spin Sarah! I did read the report and yes she had the right to fire him but that was never the question was it? It was whether she abused her power in the way it all transpired. For supposedly be a candidate who wants to reform Washington she seems like one of the "good old boys of Washington" to me.

Yes, he serves at the pleasure of the governor but the ethics part is the key to the type of administration and the type of person Palin is. She is not only not qualified to be the VP but she is carrying way too much baggage. McCain, what were you thinking?

She was a scandal waiting to happen from day one McCain. I hope the country see you and Palin for what you really are (selfish and greedy) and your numbers in the polls drop like a lead zeppelin.
