Palin denies abusing power in trooper case

Palin made her first comments Saturday since the ethics report was released.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (CNN) – Sarah Palin on Saturday denied abusing her power or violating state law in the dismissal of Alaska’s Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, putting her at odds with the findings of a state ethics report that determined she did abuse her power as governor.

As the Republican vice presidential nominee departed her Pittsburgh hotel on Saturday morning, a reporter asked Palin if she abused her power in firing Monegan, which was the conclusion of the state investigator's report released late Friday.

“No, and if you read the read the report you will see that there was nothing unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member," Palin responded before boarding her campaign bus. "You got to read the report, sir."

Palin had the authority to fire Monegan, but the report by former Anchorage prosecutor Stephen Branchflower concluded that she abused her power as Alaska's governor and violated state ethics law by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law, Mike Wooten, fired from the state police.

"Gov. Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda," the report states.

I think McCain can still win if he drops Palin immediately and announces Romney (great business mind) as the new VP choice.

Romney would bring the only real business sense to the campaign.

Otherwise, McCain has lost. He needs to do something bold. Romney is ready to campaign, ready to hit the Sunday morning shows, he can answer questions from reporters...something Palin never could.

Shame on you, Sarah Palin. I'm very sad about this. You are not doing anything good for women, hardworking, honest women.

Well Sarah, I have just read the report and I wonder if you have read it. Let me quote the main findings directly:

"...Governor Sarah Pailin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a)" which states that "any effort to benefit a personal or finanical interest" is a violation of public trust.

It goes on to say that your personal motives were "likely a contributing factor to his termination". What part of "abuse of power" do you not understand? And you accuse Obama of being too "ambitious"?

It is no surprise that so many of us in this country, even conservatives like Buckley and other Republicans, are very very worried about the prospect of a McCain-Pailin victory. We need ethics and intelligence in the White House, not a blind greed for power.

Oh Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, every time I start to feel sorry for you, you say something stupid, or lie again. The report clearly says that although she didn't break the law, she broke the law. She claims Obama is "putting ambition above country". Really Sarah? Not only are you the person who puts ambition above country, you put it above your family and the tenants of the faith you profess to cling to (that shall not lie). Sarah, you really should be ashamed of yourself.

Maybe Sen.McCain should sit Ms. Palin down and explain the atomsphere of the 60's. Instead of being born in the 60's, she should understand what it was to live in the 60's. Its not like today, where America supports its servicemen and women because we learned from the 60's that an unpopular war is not the fault of our dedicated heros. There is a big difference in the 60's description of a war protestor and a 21st Century terrorist. Ms. Palin is not knowledgeable enough to understand this.

I hear today she has toned down her incitful and spitful racism. Sen. McCain must have cautioned her. We'll see how long it lasts.

Fifteen minutes and counting. Wise choice of VP senator McCain. Do you really think the American voters will want to see what other 'experienced' choices you make as President?
    No Thanks,
I will vote happily for Obama/Biden in 08!

Of course she would deny it...however, we'll never really know whether she really did abuse her power...only she knows that. I don't think this was a "partisan-led" investigation...it was already an issue before Palin was picked as McCain's running mate.

PALIN IS BEYOND THE PALE. SHE IS NOW SHOWING THE COUNTRY AND THE WORLD HER TRUE NATURE, ALREADY AT WORK IN ALASKA, OF PUSHING AROUND PEOPLE AND THRIVING ON VENDETTA AND LIES: ONE PITBULL WITH LIPSTICK BAYING THE PACK. AND, IN THE FULL GLARE OF THE WORLD, PALIN IS F A I L I N'

McSAME'S PATHETIC EFFORT TO SUCKER THE CLINTON VOTE, TAKING WOMEN FOR FOOLS, IS BACKFIRING.

Does anyone else find it odd that Todd Palin is so closely involved in official governmental business? Sarah Palin even said "send Todd and I to Michigan to campaign."

I seems like they come as a package (I won't say deal) for the Office of Vice President!

Well, I've been calling her Daily Scandal Palin for about 3 or 4 weeks now and it looks like I was right, amongst many others. She illegally uses the power of her position to fuel a personal agenda in Alaska. I wonder if she'd be anything like our current President and Vice President if she was put in the White House. Dirtiest politician EVER!

The Dems say let's focus on the Economy, forget Obama's shady past, get over ACORN. So now the bloodthirsty mob wants to crucify Gov Palin. "Do Unto Others" went right out the window. Finally the Ex brother-in-law trooper was driving drunk, was accused of domectic abuse, theaten to kill Palin's father, and tazor his 10 yr old stepson. He was by no means an outstanding citizen. He shuld not only have been fired, but arrested for hitting his wife and stepson. And finally there were no sanctions or criminal charges filed against Gov Palin, which truly says "There Was No Illegal Wrongdoind on the Gov's Action". I will still vote for MCCAIN/PALIN The true Patriots

I find Palin's statement that the report vindicates her ethical conduct to be bizarre. Maybe she's trying to claim that her behavior was called ethical in section five, subsection 3, paragraph 4 (arbitrary numbers), even though called unethical in some other sections. Weasel words from a politician.

John McCain did a fine job of vetting Sarah Palin. He only spoke with her twice before selecting her as his running mate and look what his campaign faces today. An airhead who does not know the duties of the vice president, can not name newspapers that she claims to read, can not answer questions directly and now wants the American public to believe she did not use her influence as governor to try to fire her ex-brother in law. Please go back to Alaska, resign as governor and start a job in which you will succeed – selling cosmetics.

If I had been found guilty of violating a law, I would be considered a criminal or at the least have to pay a fine and have a permenant record that would reflect the verdict of the infraction.

Palin's record now should show and be highlighted as violating "the abuse of power" law from her Governer Seat. She can no longer say that she can lead with integrity. Furthermore, speaking about the company you keep, her husband using her name and power to influence a political decision.

We cannot afford to have The Palin's in the White House or anywhere near it.

If the government of a state or country abuses it's power, that is called state terrorism.
If you incite fear or hate in order to achieve a political or idealogical goal, that too is terrorism.

I'm not saying Sarah is a terrorist. I'm just saying, she sounds completely ridiculous trying to tie Barack to terrorism.
