Palin denies abusing power in trooper case

Palin made her first comments Saturday since the ethics report was released.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (CNN) – Sarah Palin on Saturday denied abusing her power or violating state law in the dismissal of Alaska’s Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, putting her at odds with the findings of a state ethics report that determined she did abuse her power as governor.

As the Republican vice presidential nominee departed her Pittsburgh hotel on Saturday morning, a reporter asked Palin if she abused her power in firing Monegan, which was the conclusion of the state investigator's report released late Friday.

“No, and if you read the read the report you will see that there was nothing unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member," Palin responded before boarding her campaign bus. "You got to read the report, sir."

Palin had the authority to fire Monegan, but the report by former Anchorage prosecutor Stephen Branchflower concluded that she abused her power as Alaska's governor and violated state ethics law by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law, Mike Wooten, fired from the state police.

"Gov. Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda," the report states.

A finding of 'ethics violation' and 'abuse of power' are enough to prove that Sarah is no Maverick...Just more of the same ole same ole.

After reading the emails she sent where she prefaces her smears against Officer Wooten under the headings of official business is outrageous. Does Sarah have no shame?

You know, this isn't Sarah Palin's fault – William Ayers made her do it...

  3. Objective news coverage?????

Why is this story not getting wall to wall coverage on AIR?

If this was a story about the DEM ticket, that is all the media would be talking about right now. It would probably be the only story they would cover from now till election day.

    WHAT A DOUBLE STANDARD.

But I am sure my comment will never see the light of day.

She did abuse her power and the vast majority of the folks who wrote the report were Republicans so do not believe that Democrats made this happem. Read the report. Gov Palin violated her power and state ethics law. It speaks to her character. Do we want another one of THESE KIND OF PEOPLE in the White House?

Do we know the real Sarah Palin seem in the short time she has been known about there are a lot of questionable acts, statements, reports. Republicans seriously want us to vote for a 72 year old canidate for president with her as the vp. Seems awful risky. The McCain of 2000 ok the McCain of 2008 no way.

It is now up to the AMERICAN people to see the report whether or not Sarah has been truthful to the Ameriacan public. Unfartunate, is clear already majority of the American populace no longer take her seriously and rather see her as a complete disaster! Too bad for her. I fear for her future political career cos this election this time is already won by 'THAT ONE"

I never really respected Palin, but I did once respect McCain.

With John McCains pick of Sara Palin and the ugly campaign he is running I have lost all respect for him. What happened to your honor John??

Well, they didn't read the 3-page economic proposal the other week, so i doubt they'll read the 264 page report on her ETHICS VIOLATION.

After all, they view as a matter of opinion, not something that should impact commanding the American government.

The Alaska Supreme Court had thrown out the allegations the report was polically tainted. The higest judicial authority in the state. That in and of itself speaks volumes.

The legislative panel investigating was mostly Republicians and the panel voted 12-0 to publically release the report. Someone should seek out those Alaska Republicans on the panel and ask them if the are Obama supporters. Show of hands please.

The investigation begin BEFORE Palin was picked as VP and before Obama was even offically nominated.

So please spare us the spin and lies. Why is it every time the McCain/Palin says something CNN FactCheck says: Verdict: False/Misleading. Go and see for yourself.

Just read the 'Findings' section of the report.

It is unethical if it was done for personal reasons. They found that this was a contributing factor to his dismissal.

Haven't we had enough corruption and abuses of power in the White House over the past 8 years? Do we really want 4 more years of screw-ups and scandals?

Despite overwhelming proof by a bi-partisan investigation, Sarah continues to lie!

Just wait until she gets back to Alaska, some folks are in deep trouble for accusing the gov and 1st dude.

Phew that was close. She only violated the piblic trust and lied about it. I was afraid it was something serious like an extra-marital affair.

Change is on the way. (and not a minute too soon.)

When her lawyers best option of rebuttal is that Palin did abuse her power, but Branchflower wrong about which law she broke...good grief.

So...it sounds like she wouldn't even have to change the decorations in Dick Cheney's office. All she has to do is change the name on the door.

I can't believe that people actually want this woman in office.
