Palin denies abusing power in trooper case

Palin made her first comments Saturday since the ethics report was released.

Palin made her first comments Saturday since the ethics report was released.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (CNN) - Sarah Palin on Saturday denied abusing her power or violating state law in the dismissal of Alaska’s Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, putting her at odds with the findings of a state ethics report that determined she did abuse her power as governor.

As the Republican vice presidential nominee departed her Pittsburgh hotel on Saturday morning, a reporter asked Palin if she abused her power in firing Monegan, which was the conclusion of the state investigator's report released late Friday.

“No, and if you read the read the report you will see that there was nothing unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member," Palin responded before boarding her campaign bus. "You got to read the report, sir."

Palin had the authority to fire Monegan, but the report by former Anchorage prosecutor Stephen Branchflower concluded that she abused her power as Alaska's governor and violated state ethics law by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law, Mike Wooten, fired from the state police.

"Gov. Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda," the report states.

    W read the report.

    Here is Finding #1:

For the reasons explained in section IV of this report, I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act. Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) provides

“The legislature reaffirms that each public officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust.”

    'Nuff said.

Sarah Palin knew there were too many skeletons in the cupboard and despite that she accepted the nomination for vice-presidency. She is already losing popularity with the people of Alaska who know her far better now because of her interviews and now "TrooperGate" findings and if she loses the election, I am not sure how long she will stay as the Governor of Alaska.

Sure she will deny ... this is the same lady that LIES about everything and everybody daily. She is so dumb that she can't even understand the report that clearly states that "she violated ethics laws and abused her powers". It is one more example of Bush legacy – stupid people in charge of government and committing violations everyday.

Gov. Palin doesn't read any newspapers she can recall. What makes us think she read the report?

she should probably take the time to read the report and realize that she cannot deny it anymore, but i'm glad to hear the "cancer" of the republican party is still staying in the race.

Imagine what we have in store from a Palin administration that as of right now:
    1. runs the campaign in extreme secrecy,
    2. refuses to do interviews with the press
    3. already has a scandal for abusing her power for promoting a personal agenda
    4. maintains extreme right wing personal views
    5. has shown little to no knowledge of foreign or economic policy
    6. and she can't pronounce the word nuclear.

If this isn't the second coming of George W. Bush, then I don't know what is.

Maybe she'll get all those hockey moms across the country to ban together and say "Never again!" – that will solve this denial problem!

She already sounds like a member of the Bush administration. Deny all wrong doing no matter what the proof says. Way to be a maverick, Palin!

Not only is she a borderline criminal, she can't even form a proper sentence. "You got to read the report, sir." REALLY?

Yes, I abused my power, no, it wasn't technically illegal. So everything's cool, right?

    Talk about small time.

    Dear Sarah,

That bus is called the "Straight Talk Express"!!!! What are you doing getting on it? Unless you ride it one last time back to Alaska, you should not be on it.
But wait!!!! Please, please, please take Mr. McCain with you as well. You all be very happy in Alaska there; drinking beer, moose and wolf hunting. And if you feel board, you can always go to the little island that you have never been to and you can glance across the waters to see Russia. Maybe you can see Mr. Putin too.

Wake up America and understand; McCain does not care about people who has less money than him and his wife. He cares only about tax cuts for himself and his rich friends. He cares nothing for working people and he cares nothing for his fellow vets either. Look at his record. Do the right thing and vote someone in power who has the well being of your health, your jobs and your pocket book in mind to change for the better. Wake up America.

I can't phathom the enormity of the implications this will have on the McCain campaign. Judgment has been at issue for them for so long that i guess that topic will now just disappear.

    Typical GOP politics.

She denies the report.. Duh.. Maybe what she should deny is having the qualifications to be second in command of the strongest country on the planet... This woman is a poor substitute for Hillary Clinton and J. McCain should be ashamed of himself for picking this woman and insulting the intelligence of every woman in America. I have never voted a day in my life. So i want to thank J. McCain for making my first vote an easy one.

Yes, Sarah, you are vindicated, you did nothing illegal. But you did commit ethical violations. Unfortunately you lack the intellect to understand all of this.

Of course she's going to deny it. She lies like she breathes. She has nowhere to turn. Once she loses this election, she will have to go home and live with Unethical Todd, and face the music.

Ten Republicans and 4 democrats found that she is unethical and abused her power. That's bipartisan...

What an ignoramus she is. She courts the hate vote, she lies, and she's unqualified. Is t his the best the GOP has to offer?

The "Bimbo" finally got what she deserved. The truth has finally come out. Of course the powers that be won't let it go too far but at least the American public can see how devious Palin really is. I am glad that after all the recent attacks that the chickens came home to roost.
