Palin denies abusing power in trooper case

Palin made her first comments Saturday since the ethics report was released.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (CNN) – Sarah Palin on Saturday denied abusing her power or violating state law in the dismissal of Alaska’s Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, putting her at odds with the findings of a state ethics report that determined she did abuse her power as governor.

As the Republican vice presidential nominee departed her Pittsburgh hotel on Saturday morning, a reporter asked Palin if she abused her power in firing Monegan, which was the conclusion of the state investigator's report released late Friday.

“No, and if you read the read the report you will see that there was nothing unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member," Palin responded before boarding her campaign bus. "You got to read the report, sir."

Palin had the authority to fire Monegan, but the report by former Anchorage prosecutor Stephen Branchflower concluded that she abused her power as Alaska's governor and violated state ethics law by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law, Mike Wooten, fired from the state police.

"Gov. Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda," the report states.

Palin is a liar. She lied from the very moment she was introduced as McCain's running mate when she claimed to have been against the Bridge to Nowhere (a lie she has repeated despite evidence to the contrary). And she has continued to lie consistently on the campaign trail about her record and especially about Senator Obama. She has no credibility. The Alaska Legislature should take the findings from the bi-partisan investigation and hold her accountable. The Alaskan people deserve it, as do the voters in this national election.

she needs to take responsibility for her actions, just suck it up and say, "sorry I over stepped" if she did that this thing wouldn't be a big deal to me. But insulting Alaska's institutions and elected representatives makes me think she's in it for herself and not for the betterment of all

Great. Aside from not knowing a thing about any of the great issues this country faces, now it turns out that even her very meager tenure as governor of the most-underpopulated state in this country, Palin was using her office as a vehicle to wage family battles. Is she really a Vice Presidential candidate, or a contestant on a reality TV show?

Seems the Palin campaign has a closet skeleton deeper than
most folks realize... you can't fool all the people all the time..
she has a very vindictive personality and McCain better watch her the
future.. before this is over there will be a LOT of past exposure that
Palin will not want... power does that to some folks

Of course she's gonna deny it. What do you expect? Ask Bill Clinton if he had sexual relationship with Monica, and see what he says.

Like Bill, Palin needs to be impeached. Abuse of power is strong ground for impeachment. The McCain campaign should fire her, as well.

Of course she denies it. She's in denial about most things around her. Her mistake was not stopping her husband from using the trappings of the Governor's office to intimidate state employees. That's unethical and she should own up to it "for the good of the country".

The investigation started long before you were picked for VP. Those same bi-partisan investigators found you guilty of abuse of power.

Politicized, yes but true. You abused your power and you fit well within the Bush Cheney, McCain party.

You are all the same peas in a pod.

She's splitting hairs and avoiding talking about the actions that were deemed UNLAWFUL and an abuse of power altogether. This lady is dangerous and will use the White House as weapon against anyone who doesnt share her extremely narrow view of the United States and the World.

I have read several articles claiming that Todd Palin is the real govener of Alaska. The shadow who makes the real decisions. If - God forbid McCain becomes president and dies in office will Todd Palin, champion snow machine racer, be our shadow president?

Vote Obama/Biden in November. They don't need shadows.

Todd Palin would want Alaska to secede from the US, so he can become the King of an Oil-rich kingdom and settle all family scores as he wishes.

She can deny all she wants the facts speak for themselves. Funny how when the shoe is on the other foot she sees nothing wrong with being evasive and claim innocense. She is the most unchristian acting christian I have ever seen or heard.

Yeah, she hired her own "investigative" team, and they concluded that she was completely in her rights to abuse power...pathetic...

Do we really want another president that is prone to abuse of power, we'll have exactly zero civil liberties left and we'll all be Christian zealots...oh happy day!

First a preemptive report and now denial. This would have been a minor blip if she and the campaign just cooperated. Now it is a distraction, a major story for the days leading to the last debate. Let's face, its over.

We know. It's Barrack Obama's fault! You already had a credibility problem, now it is documented on paper. So maybe you are the one that wants public office for ambitious reasons.
