Palin denies abusing power in trooper case

Palin made her first comments Saturday since the ethics report was released.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (CNN) – Sarah Palin on Saturday denied abusing her power or violating state law in the dismissal of Alaska’s Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, putting her at odds with the findings of a state ethics report that determined she did abuse her power as governor.

As the Republican vice presidential nominee departed her Pittsburgh hotel on Saturday morning, a reporter asked Palin if she abused her power in firing Monegan, which was the conclusion of the state investigator's report released late Friday.

“No, and if you read the read the report you will see that there was nothing unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member," Palin responded before boarding her campaign bus. "You got to read the report, sir."

Palin had the authority to fire Monegan, but the report by former Anchorage prosecutor Stephen Branchflower concluded that she abused her power as Alaska's governor and violated state ethics law by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law, Mike Wooten, fired from the state police.

"Gov. Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda," the report states.

She did abuse her power, she just didn't break any laws? Go figure that one. The report does say what she did was unethical. Mrs. Palin needs to go back and read the report. GOP spin is a wonderful thing. Just like her spin that she was not incited hate at the rallies. Then stating Obama pals around with terrorist, what exactly does that imply. That Obama is a terrorist? Saw footage of a group of McCain/Palin supporters walking into a rally, they were saying he is a Muslim, terrorist, etc. What if Obama does become President, then we will have all these uninformed idiots thinking he is a Muslim, a terrorist and/or Arab. Politics can get negative and dirty but questioning someone's patriotism is way out in left field or should I say to the "right" wing.

The wicked witch from the North has been firing qualified people and hiring unqualified school freinds for years. This is nothing new, and she will continue to do it until she is stopped. The records speak for themselves in Alaska. If McCain would not have ued the "speed dating" tactic to vet her he could have easily seen how many people she has thrown under the bus. And just when her and Todd were getting ready to kick McCain to the curb and take over the free world.Poor little pit bull

Sarah Palin represents the worst of America. She is attracting ugly crowds and is not controlling them. She is not qualified to lead and just got a free ride as governor in a very small state with a population less that El Paso.
Let's retire the pit-bull with lipstick.
I was a McCain supporter, but not now, his campaign is out of control.
    I am supporting Obama.

This Troopergate thing is just the icing on the cake. Sarah Palin was abusing her power when she started hiring her high school friends for positions that they have no qualifications for, and even worse, for jobs that her friends had no idea what they consisted of. The woman tried to turn the Alaskan government into a fun little pow wow with her friends instead of hiring qualified people who actually knew what the jobs entailed.

What?!!! Even after it has been proven that she abused her power, she still continues to lie about it? These people have no shame.

Having read the full report of the investigation it is hard to believe that Sara Palin has nothing to hide. When she would not cooperate and ten members of her staff after being subpoenaed would not leaves a lot of questions as to why. It is obvious that Sara Palin is a power hungry women. Many who know her have said she would stop at nothing to get what she wanted. The idea of putting someone in office who already has this kind of baggage makes no sense.
I was a supporter of McCain prior to his rash decision of selecting Palin and his negative campaign approach. I feel our country deserves better.

If Sarah Palin fired Monegan for managing problems, why did her advisors even talk about the problems to him about her brother in law.
She is lying and trying to cover up the fact that she pressured she Monegan to fire her brother in law.
Their are some 20 or more email connecting the two incidences

Are we to believe the word of Sarah Palin or that of a highly-respected stae investigator whose findings and conclusions are based on proof and are supported by a balanced, bipartisan committe in Alaska?

Abuse of power and violation of the code of ethics constitute a serious crime, especially on the part of an elected official. When do impeachment procedures start?

  10. now voting AGAINST McCain

Well of course, she denies wrong doing...while she tries to focus on only one half of the report.

It's true she can fire whomever she wants for whatever reason, and she fired Monegan basically because he didn't do as she told him to do: fire her former brother-in-law....sort of like the president could fire all those U.S. attorneys because they didn't do what the republican big shots wanted them to do: go after democrats.

But there's no way Palin was completely exhonerated in this report.

She abused her power by trying to get SOMEONE WHO WAS NOT WORKING WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE GOVERNOR"S OFFICE FIRED. Again, it's like with the fired U.S. attorneys; while they were fired, the people the republicans wanted the attorneys to go after were not, nor could they have been.

The report from the legislators in Alaska...the majority of whom are republican...brought the light of day to the unvarnished fact that Palin, by virtue of her abuse of power in the governor's office, is certainly not to be trusted to sit behind the desk in the even more powerful office of the vice-president.

The thought of this power-hungry, bullying person possibly sitting in the president's chair is even more frightening.

I would not expect Gov Palin to say anything that agrees with the findings of the report. However, it does seem strange to me that they call it a political trick when see agreed to this before she was nominated and the committee that approved the report was 10 repubs and 4 dems. If she truly has the support of her folks in Alaska would they not vote to hold the report if they could. On another point I just completed a report on Google concerning the "Alaska Independent Party" very interesting the folks we hang with. This is really a sick minded group that Gov Palin husband was a "Card" carrying member of and she strougly supported. There leaders say that they have a open door policy with her. Anyway the reading is interesting – look for yourself.

  14. Who's the "Partisan"?

Palin is such a liar. Palin accuses the legislative investigation as "partisan," when its composition was 10 Republicans and only 4 Democrats. Truth is, any panel not dominated by her own appointees and likely to rule in her favor would be described by this dishonest politician as "partisan."

She abused her powers, sounds like the last 8 years of the Bush administration. As a Govener she sought out her own agenda getting her ex-brother-inlaw fired, just like Bush and the Iraq War, that was his agenda. She calls Obama a lier.........she says Obama can't be trusted.........get real people this woman is more dangerous than anyone we could put in office.

VOTE FRAUD FLORISHED IN MANY CITIES, STATES, DUE TO ECONOMIC FACTORS, POVERTY, AND UNEMPLOYMENT. IT IS THE IMPORTANT CAUSE OF BRIBERY IN ORDER TO ACHIEVEING POWER. This denial is not unlike the following from George W Bush: "If someone committed a crime, they will no longer work in my administration" Bush of course then commuted the sentence of Scooter Libby after the courts found that Libby committed a crime; Rove and Cheney managed to get away with it.

Palin, like Bush, is an obvious pathological liar, which is why the Republicans adore her, and why the rest of the country sees her as unfit for elected office.

Maybe this applies to the Mccain/Palin attacks? I don't know, but I think

I have a hard time viewing attempts to remove a child-abusing trooper found with an open container of alcohol in a squad car as an act of "personal gain."

EVERYONE gains when we pressure public officials to remove dangerous public employees.

how can everyone be wrong and she be right....it doesn't make sense....she needs to get a life.....she is such a fake...i heard a little of her speech today in johnstown....there is absolutely no subtance, and she is still telling lies on obama, about raising taxes on people making 42,000, which fact check proved that incorrect, and mccain mortgage plan, (which the taxpayers will have to pay for), the fact check also picked that up today) so she needs to start telling the truth...we do not need any more LIARS IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!!!
