Palin denies abusing power in trooper case

Palin made her first comments Saturday since the ethics report was released.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (CNN) – Sarah Palin on Saturday denied abusing her power or violating state law in the dismissal of Alaska’s Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, putting her at odds with the findings of a state ethics report that determined she did abuse her power as governor.

As the Republican vice presidential nominee departed her Pittsburgh hotel on Saturday morning, a reporter asked Palin if she abused her power in firing Monegan, which was the conclusion of the state investigator's report released late Friday.

“No, and if you read the read the report you will see that there was nothing unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member," Palin responded before boarding her campaign bus. "You got to read the report, sir."

Palin had the authority to fire Monegan, but the report by former Anchorage prosecutor Stephen Branchflower concluded that she abused her power as Alaska's governor and violated state ethics law by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law, Mike Wooten, fired from the state police.

"Gov. Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda," the report states.

It doesn't matter...she can be found guilty of funneling state revenue into her own checking account to fund an illegal underage prostitution ring and the Republicans will spin it as a "unique job creations program for minors."

We Independents and Democrats we'll just keep our eye on the ball by continuing to knock on doors, make phone calls, and register voters with the hopes of electing Obama on Nov. 4th!!

Liar, liar pants on fire. I guess Palin has short-term and long-term memory problems. Since McSane announced her as his choice for VP, she is being all about the lying, smearing and altering and not telling the truth. You my dear are a pathological liar. GO Back to ALASKA to continue your ROAD TO NOWHERE along with your BRIDGE TO NOWHERE.

SEND HER BACK TO ALASKA RIGHT NOW. For all sake, if you had to chose a woman you could have gone with Hutchinson. Shame on YOU mccain for choosing a silly gimmick that's wanted in her own state for abusing power.

We HAVE read the report, Ms. Palin, and suggest you do the same. Your ethics abuse wasn't the fact that you replaced Monegan. It was, as stated in the report, that you "knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda". You basically forced those people to follow your directives for fear of losing their job. You ABUSED your power.

And now, we learn that you also spent taxpayer money to travel to meet with religious leaders on topics not relative to the management of the State of Alaska. Ever hear of that little concept of separation of church and state?? You are in deep, deep doo-doo, and frankly, I'll be very surprised if, when it's all said and done, you emerge as governor with full powers. I'm expecting censure at the last; however, I believe impeachment is more appropriate.

THE MOMENT I SEE PALIN I KNOW THAT THERE IS SOMETHING DEEP INSIDE HER THAT IS NOT TRUE. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU CAN CALL IT SIXTH SENSE BUT I REALLY CANNOT TRUST THIS PERSON. I BELIEVE THERE ARE MORE THINGS THAT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WILL KNOW ABOUT HER. MCCAIN I BELIEVE REALLY MADE A MISTAKE OF PICKING HER AS HIS VP CANDIDATE. THERE IS A SAYING "NOT ALL THAT GLETTERS ARE GOLD" AND THIS IS TRUE IN THE CASE OF PALIN. IT'S GOOD TO KNOW BEFORE THE ELECTION SO WE CAN PREVENT PUTTING PEOPLE IN THE GOVERNMENT THAT YOU CANNOT TRUST. ENOUGH!!!

For the first time in my life, I follow U.S.A. race for President and honestly I am scandalised by McCain/Palin way of campaining. and I come to the opinion of, if McCain wins (which won't happen I hope), his voters will have exactly what they deserve, an old man totally unable to stand up and getting control by Palin, etc.. exactly like Bush and Cheney... By unfortunetly, all U.S. voters will be affected by the the bad consequences of this bad and dangerous choice and it's gonna mean that U.S. people dont deserve a great leader and admirable man like Mr. Obama. My point of view is they are lucky to have the chance to get this man and the power to elect him. In Canada, I wish we would have of man of his value as choice, but unfortunettly, we dont but if we would, be sure that we would not miss the chance to elect such an integrate man, with his spirit and intelligence. I hope my english will be understable for the readers. I did my better to give my opinion and good luck Mr. Obama and his voters. God bless Mr. Obama and his wife and daughters.

I did read the report and it provides and amazing insight of how this self-proclaimed "mavarick reformer" operates.
That's her style of leadership and executive experience, huh?

    How disgusting!

Well....I wasn't expecting her to gracefully admit her mistakes and mis-judgements, she a repulblican. But ofcourse denying is way easier than accepting for them.
Too bad for the McPains', 'cause after McSane looses the election to the Real Guy in the Race, Palin wouldn't even have a job to go back to. What goes around comes around. She fired not the trooper but the guy that didn't fired the trooper. Ok, maybe she couldn't fire the trooper directly but you can see she a very sadistic and calous this woman is. And her husband (first dude)was running the whole show, imagine him in the White House? Huh? Am sure he will send government aides, now secret service to go get him the only guy that said booo during the election.
They( Palins) don't deserve to be up there amongst interllectuals, imagine having an intelligent conversation with a group of think thanks and someone comes in and asks if moose tasted better than pork...lol....
These are just my opinions, i really don't want her that close to the precidency, i mean just one melanoma away.

Just what this country needs, another VP who thinks they are above the law and willing to abuse the power given to them by the people for their own financial and personal gain. She's not a pit bull with lipstick, she Cheney in high heels.

  18. You betcha!

You have to be kidding me. Now of course, the neo-nuts will just say "see? she didn't do anything, she said she didn't" That was the whole point of the investigation, to find out what really happened. Then again the bigots can't admit their prejudice, why would they admit that "winky" did anything wrong?

More spin, more lies, business as usual for these republican candidates even as their numbers plunge in the polls.

Guess it's time to dust off the old reliable, same-sex marriage ban promises.

AFTER an investigation by the troopers her ex brother in law was suspened for several days, that was his punishment according to the people who hired him. In the divorce trial the judge even reprimanded her family stating that they were biting the hand that fed them, that if the trooper lost his job how could he pay child support. BEFORE she was chosen as the VP pick a panel of 10 republicans and 4 democrats decided something was fishy with her firing of the boss of her ex brother in law. It wasn't OBama that sent a "team" to Alaska it was McCain that has tried to shut it down, yeah that's really partisian. Sure she has the right to fire whoever it's just the way she did it then lied about it. Pure and simple it was revenge. Who is this woman that she would use her position as govenor as pay back? This is just too unbelievable that anyone with a functioning brain would vote for this ticket after they way they have questioned OBamas ethics. True Americans are sick of this gutter trash and burn politics and inciting hate and fear to get elected. It is beyond despicable. Just remember what goes around comes around and when you get down in the gutter your bound to come out stinking with the filth.

I urge everyone to read the first 50 pages of the report: it tells a lot of how this self-claimed "mavarick" uses power for her own purposes.

Sarah Palin proves time and time again that she is not fit to be Vice President, much less President which she would end up being if Mccain had any serious health problems which is certainly well within the realm of possibility with someone his age. Sarah Palin does not have anything that resembles foreign policy credentials, she has shown in the past and even now that she likes to be in control and therefore has abused her power multiple times trying to get her own way. Sarah Palin scares me, the possibility of having such a crazy lady as the president of this country is nothing short of horrifying. Sarah Palin is not fit to lead and was not a move by mccain towards country first but his campaign first hoping to get Hillary Clinton supporters. NO OFFENSE BUT SARAH PALIN IS NO HILLARY CLINTON. Hillary Clinton has far more experience then Sarah Palin has and actually knows the issues unlike Sarah Palin who only looks nice. Sarah Palin is not ready and is also a hypocrite for critisizing obama for such irrelevant facts when she has much larger faults in her own personal character.

NO HYPOCRITICAL SARAH PALIN JOHN MCCAIN TICKET

    OBAMA / BIDEN 08
