Palin denies abusing power in trooper case

Palin made her first comments Saturday since the ethics report was released.
Palin made her first comments Saturday since the ethics report was released.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (CNN) – Sarah Palin on Saturday denied abusing her power or violating state law in the dismissal of Alaska’s Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, putting her at odds with the findings of a state ethics report that determined she did abuse her power as governor.

As the Republican vice presidential nominee departed her Pittsburgh hotel on Saturday morning, a reporter asked Palin if she abused her power in firing Monegan, which was the conclusion of the state investigator's report released late Friday.

“No, and if you read the read the report you will see that there was nothing unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member," Palin responded before boarding her campaign bus. "You got to read the report, sir."

Palin had the authority to fire Monegan, but the report by former Anchorage prosecutor Stephen Branchflower concluded that she abused her power as Alaska's governor and violated state ethics law by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law, Mike Wooten, fired from the state police.

"Gov. Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda," the report states.

Palin is right. There was no finding that she unlawfully fired Monegan. However, she was found culpable for abusing the power of her office, just as Mc Cain was in the Keating Five hearings, and of violating the ethics law. During the past eight years, we have witnessed abuse of power at the highest levels of our government. We do not need two more abusers in the White House.

So Palin wanted to question Obama's character. Well her Alaska Legislature didn't care for the official part of hers [10 Republicans with 4 Democrats]

So, speaking of character, McCain's character with comments from his military, POW, and Congressional peers, was outlined Friday in this issue:

We don't need your nonsense, moronic ideas and behavior--this country is so great and so blessed intellectually to be rule by another idiot . Bush/Cheney eight years of stupidity is enough.

She's a liar or she can't read. “No, and if you read the report you will see that there was nothing unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member." And yet the main thrust of the report is: "Palin abused her power as Alaska's governor and violated state ETHICS LAW." No, there's nothing unethical or unlawful about violating ethics laws. Nothing whatsoever.

She needs to answer a lot of questions and quick.

I've always wondered how it was legal for Todd Palin – an unelected, private person – to call in Alaska officials to the Governor's Mansion. Or how he had access to government personnel files.

Now, we know. It wasn't legal. Whether or not Wooten deserved to lose his job, it's clear the Palins were abusing her position as governor to pursue a personal vendetta.

What is this, Russia? Personally, I don't like the idea of the VP's spouse (or – God forbid – president's spouse) having some shadow role in intimidating government officials.

Palin's approach to government, like our current president, is "I do what I want, and don't ask questions."

Although it may not seem like it these days, this country is still a democracy - by the people and for the people. We don't need another elected official who thinks she's above the law.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I thought a "true" christian who believes in God does not do these things such as "abusing" her power in public office!!!!
I thought Christians are supposed to attach to the "ethical" codes more than non-religious poeple!!!

It seems from the report that Todd Palin injects himself into the State's operation regularily and Sarah doesn't mind.

The citizen's of Alaska should kick her out of office. This woman has a forked tongue.

Deny, deny, deny, deny, get on the bus before more questions can be asked. The clock is ticking on the McCain campaign, and unless this power-hungry, do whatever it takes to further my career, power hungry, village-idiot is on the ticket, there is no hope for McCain. Drop Palin, toneodown the rhetoric, lose the rage at your rallies John, and you just may be able to pull of a good showing in the polls. Keep her, keep going down the path you are headed and this election is going to be a landslide.

Removing a speck from a brothers eye when you have a log in yours is pitiful. How do you step out into the public and sling mud at your opponents when yours will stick for a long time. Miss Alaske you need to be repentant. Your verdict is in heaven

Talk about partisan politics. Did anyone notice that the report came out on Friday evening so that it had the weekend to wind down before viewers started following the news again on Monday?

PR people know that when there is bad news the best time to release it is after the evening news and on Friday/Saturday. Fewest viewers and a fair change that something bigger will blow in by Monday and cover up the story.
