Palin denies abusing power in trooper case

Palin made her first comments Saturday since the ethics report was released.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (CNN) – Sarah Palin on Saturday denied abusing her power or violating state law in the dismissal of Alaska’s Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, putting her at odds with the findings of a state ethics report that determined she did abuse her power as governor.

As the Republican vice presidential nominee departed her Pittsburgh hotel on Saturday morning, a reporter asked Palin if she abused her power in firing Monegan, which was the conclusion of the state investigator's report released late Friday.

“No, and if you read the read the report you will see that there was nothing unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member," Palin responded before boarding her campaign bus. "You got to read the report, sir."

Palin had the authority to fire Monegan, but the report by former Anchorage prosecutor Stephen Branchflower concluded that she abused her power as Alaska's governor and violated state ethics law by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law, Mike Wooten, fired from the state police.

"Gov. Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda," the report states.

And I wonder what it will be like to have her as vice president.

I have also noticed this week that Palin's celebrity have caused her to change her "look." She now has highlighted hair and more makeup...could it be she's getting star struck on herself?
Maybe it's time she get another de-witching.
Anyway, being serious, she is not the person I want in the White House. JOhm McCain made a huge mistake in choosing her, and people need to open their eyes to her words and actions.
Since when is it okay to call a US Senator a terrorist and a traitor? Since when it is okay to race bait and spread hate in a campaign in the United States?
I am fully ashamed and appaled at John McCain, Sara Palin, and the republican party.

Unethical, illegal, abusive, unpresidential. She should share the same fate as the Wall Street CEOs who abuse their power and the public trust–jail time, not more rewards. Enough already.

I think 'read the report' could be said in a lot of situations, these days.

Journalists are not journalists when they start jumping to conclusions about things they know nothing about because it's easy or maybe it's convenient for somebody's agenda.

This is not why we have a constitutional right to freedom of speech and freedom of the press.

I read the report. There was certainly an ethical breach just not a legal one (legally she can fire anyone on her cabinet for any reason). I hope the press isn't going to allow her to skate on this one.

Palin abused her power? No surprises. Why is nobody digging into Todd Palin's membership in the Alaska Independence Party? A group which advocates Alaska's secession from the union and professes hatred for the U.S. government. How can Gov. Palin reconcile her love for her country and her love for her husband, who clearly has disdain for the same country she seeks to lead? Obama may have had lunch once with Bill Ayres, but Palin sleeps every night and has borne the fruit of Alaska's Jefferson Davis. Country First? I think not... Sarah Palin First is more accurate.

What is she doing here in Pittsburgh anyway? Don't they know Pennsylvania is a lost cause for her ticket?

This certainly won't help the GOP in the polls, but everyone is already so polarized that ultimately it will have no effect one way or another.

That said, it confirms my belief that she acted unethically, and won't be surprised to see how they (try to) spin it in their favor.

They'll try and blame Obama, or course, even though the investigation started before anyone had heard of her in the national scene.

If I were in Obama's camp, I would use this to frame the question: "what do we REALLY know about McCain's judgment? And what else DON'T we know about Sarah Palin?"

And I would try and leak stuff about her links to the Alaskan Independence Party, such as videos of her speaking at their conventions, which are all over youtube.

I would also edit it in with videos of the former leader of the AIP saying stuff like,
"The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government."

Of course she will say that. But now I want to know what will happen next. We have to make sure she is held accountable because no one is above the law. I hope that she and dude will realize that.

So she broke some laws, used the Governor's office as a platform for her husband to obsessively attack Wooten. Pressured many to take actions which could have resulted in lawsuits against them because they couldn't move on and leave discipline to the department responsible. After the last 7 years of dirty tricks in the Whitehouse she would fit right in.

The white washed self righteous sepulca can see no wrong because it feels so right to her. These are faux Christians wearing the label across their foreheads. It is amazing how evangels can support these people who commit every wrong to their satisfaction and then look you in the eye and say "Im so good". God will reveal their wrong doings. Obama is much more a Christian then McInsane and Phony Palin ever could imagine to be. Utterly disgusting!

I think the nobel thing for McCain to do is to go back to the drawing board, ask Palin to step down , and pick a VP candidate that will put America FIrst….. I am completely dissapoint with the McCain camp.

The first words out of Palin mouth should have been, I am sorry. It was bad judgement on my part.

The camp has some serious damaged control to do in the next 24 days.. Basically to restore the Repubican Reputation and placing the country first.

    lastly,

I hope the next McCain is to apologize to the country for his insensitivity while the we are all in a crisis.

  20. Wink wink

Of course she believes she's innocent. So do 99% of those serving time in our penitentiaries. That's what is scary. Even scarier is the thought that if she steps down, it could be the end of McCain's reputation with the Republicans and therefore the end of his campaign. Is it possible the Republicans would then foist an untested candidate that would get the right swooning and rallied, who would be another disaster? Ouch!

I don't know what's worse...the fact that she's lying or that she doesn't truly understand that it wasn't the firing that was wrong, it was firing for personal gain. We cannot afford to have another town idiot in the White House.

People MIGHT have believed this IF she had cooperated with the investigation as she said she was going to, but when you start playing games just because you became a VP nominee people see aren't dumb and see what she did.

Thank the McSame campaign Sarah..your word is now nothing.

Let’s see how Palin is going to try to spin this. First, the report clearly stated she abused her power. Second, the panel was made up of 10 Republicans and 4 Democrats. Third, this investigation was launched before she was chosen to be VP. Yet she stands and spews innuendos and accusations about Obama. Ouch, Karma!
