Rendell on McCain attacks: 'I think they're just stupid'

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (CNN) – Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell dismissed the McCain campaign’s recent attacks against Barack Obama’s character Saturday, and said the Republican nominee’s current strategy has severely damaged him here.

“I think the John McCain of 2000 would have been a very difficult candidate to beat. The John McCain of 2008 is much less difficult to beat,” Rendell told reporters after an Obama rally.

When asked if he thought there has been any racial undercurrent to the McCain-Palin ticket bringing up issues like Obama’s relationship with 1960s radical William Ayers, Rendell shook his head.

“Not particularly. I think they’re just stupid, they’re dumb, dumb,” Rendell said of the attacks. “They’re all dumb when people are facing the challenges in their own lives that they’re facing no one wants to hear that stuff it’s just dumb.

"You know tell us what you want to do. If he’s got a plan for the mortgage bailout explain it to the American people that might get people’s interest … but don’t tell us about you know something that happened when Barack Obama was just 8 years of age, it’s just dumb.”

McCain is trying SO hard to make something stick. Nothing will...it's too late for that. Obama will be our next President, and there will be celebrations across the country.

When will we get more info on the CURRENT and on-going friendship of McCain and G. Gordon Liddy – the guy from watergate that worked to subvert our Constitution? I know he was buddy buddy on Liddy's talk show last November.

When will we get those details?

  5. You sure about that?

He has said what he will do. I'm sorry he doesn't constantly repeat himself the way Obama does. I mean for real... If I hear "the economy just shows us the failures of the last 8 years overseen by George Bush, supported by John McCain" one more time I'm going to scream. He's not actually saying anything. I watched an entire speech of Obama's on CNN one day when the bailout was still being discussed (and notice he was giving a speech on Green Bay, and not actually doing something in Washington) and he didn't offer up solutions. He merely stated the obvious things that need to be included in the bailout, said how bad of a President Bush has been, and tried forcing the connection between him and McCain. I'm still waiting to hear how you want to pay for all of your spending if you're cutting my taxes Sen. Obama.

Gov. Palin was found guilty of abuse of power in Alaska; she is still guilty of abuse of power on the campaign trail for Senator McCain. She was dead wrong to say "Obama pals around with terrorist." Gov. Palin is leading angry people down a dangerous road to wave of riots similar to those in the 1960s.

Mcbush and Palen are finished, the people want answers, not more lies. and rhetoric.

Mcbush has not come with a plan for the future of America, only slanderous attacks.

McCain and Palin are clearly trying to get Obama killed.,, even if they will not admit it to themselves. Anyone with a rational mind can see they are trying to make Obama look like a secret muslim terrorist that will hurt America. Some nutcase is going to think he is being a good American if he kills Obama.
If that goes down... it will rip America apart. Someone needs to talk sanity into McCain before it is too late. This mixed message bs is not going to work. McCain needs to flat out stop with the terrorist with a muslim name.. wink wink... shadow email smear campaign.
Will someone please talk to him?

Sometimes i think the same thing: maybe the McCain campaign doesn't really have a strategy, maybe they are just to bone-headed to notice what's really going on around them.

Obama on the other hand has shown he's paying attention, he's adaptable, and he's shown true strength and leadership throughout this campaign.

    Never make that mistake.

These people are NOT stupid; they are simply willing to go to any lengths to win.

They don't have to have better ideas, and they don't have to tell the truth.

They simply have to scare enough voters to get %50 +1 vote; this is the lesson that McCain learned form Bush and Rove.

John McCain sold his soul to become the Republican nomine. John McCain and Palin started the hate and terrorist BS and now are pretending that they didn’t really mean it!

I can’t wait for Nov 4th to get here so we can finally throw out the Neo-con right wing terrorist who have plagued and ruined our country for the last 8 years.

Shame on McCain and shame on Palin for being racist tools!

ACTUALLY........ McCain/Republicans are not stupid they are:

Greedy, mean, hateful, spiteful, liars, dividers, etc., etc.

I grew up in a Republican household, my elderly parents are still Republican. But, after voting for Bush in 2000, I realized what a huge mistake in judgement it was to vote Republican.

They lie, they say that they are Pro-life, but deny poor children health insurance.

They say they are pro-life but McCain jokes "Bomb......bomb...........bomb Iran!"

The Republican-lies-hate-divide-attack machine has become even more vile and evil in the last few weeks. Their rallies look like Klan-rallies, with angry people, even some yelling......."kill him!"

As a Christian, I am disgusted by McCain...... and disturbed by Palin.

And by the way, can you imagine IF Palin was a Democrat?? They far-right-family-values-people would have ads claiming that "Palin's an unfit mother, who has abandoned her children!"

BUT........ the far-right-family-values people are silent on Palin. Hypocrites.

McCain can dodge the issues all he wants, the fact is the American people are putting there hats in with who they think has actually articulated a clear plan. Obama might not be perfect and have the best solutions to all of our problems but at least he has a plan. We all understand what he wants to do and how it will help. McCain just wants to continue tax cuts to the wealthy, deregulate our industries, and expand the war in the middle east. How is that a strategy to fix our problems?
