McCain predicted a win at Wednesday’s debate.

(CNN) — John McCain predicted Sunday he would beat Barack Obama at the final presidential debate this week.

"After I whip his you-know-what in this debate, we're going to be going out 24/7," the Republican nominee told volunteers at his campaign headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, sparking laughter and applause from the group. McCain immediately added: "I want to emphasize again, I respect Senator Obama. We will conduct a respectful race, and we will make sure that everybody else does, too."

Outside the doors of his campaign offices, McCain is fighting to hold on to the traditionally-red state. McCain talked Sunday about the tough fight for Virginia, where Obama currently leads by four points, 49 to 45, in the state's most recent CNN poll of polls. He also pointed to battlegrounds states like Ohio — which Sarah Palin visited Sunday — and Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and Pennsylvania.

"And I'm telling you, we're coming on and we're going to work 24/7 for the next — who's counting — 22 days," he said.

McCain acknowledged the dip in his poll numbers since the financial crisis began, but said overall trends were in his favor. "…I'd like to give you a little straight talk, we're a couple points down, ok,
nationally, but we're right in this game," he said. "The economy has hurt us a little bit in the last week or two, but in the last few days we've seen it come back up because they want experience, and they want knowledge and they want vision. And we'll give that to America, and I know that we're going to win this race."

Yeah right, he got owned in the first two and need to console his base which are getting restless now.

The poll numbers will tighten but Obama will waltz in on Nov 4th.

GRIFFIN   October 12th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

I am so looking forward to voting for Obama, every debate McCain seems to throw something out, a plan to appease to voters but I am sure at the last debate something else will be thrown out, anything for votes, The man who has stuck to the same message, The man who has shown true leadership is Obama/Biden

Mike in Ohio   October 12th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

The economy has hurt your campaign a bit, John, but just change the subject. According to Karl Rove, that should do it.

Does MCCAin look a little McCrazy in this picture ?

brian   October 12th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

You haven't been able to do it yet, but nice comment McCain!

GT   October 12th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

well…you can always dream!

Mick   October 12th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

McCain has done nothing to sway votes other than paint Obama as Anti-American at best and a terrorist at worst. If he really believes that he has made some gains the past few days due to anything other than fear and hatred he is more off his rocker than anyone could imagine.

If you don't win will you be "our friend" and tell us how to get Bin Laden anyway?

richard   October 12th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

like you did at the other 2 debates? oh, wait… obama won both of those.

obama 2, mccain 0

nelda   October 12th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Now doesn't that sound "presidential", McCain. Keep opening your mouth and insert your foot.

d   October 12th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Oh no he didn't say 'whip his you know what" obama will finish up on Mccain's broken body with a touch iof a finger.

Dee   October 12th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Palin/McCain view of a respectful campaign: "We understand how important it is that this team be elected. For one thing, we know who the bad guys are, OK?” That statement elicited scattered shouts of “Obama!” throughout the crowd. “We know that in the war, it’s terrorists, terrorists who hate America and her allies and would seek to destroy us, and the bad guys are those who would support and sympathize with the terrorists,” she said. “They do not like America because of what we stand for… Those who sympathize and support those terrorists who would seek to destroy all that it is that we value, those are the bad guys, OK?”

dem4obama   October 12th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

oh, yeah right john, like the last two! you are gonna lose on november 4th. thats the one thats gonna matter… AND OBAMA IS GONNA BE OUR PRESIDENT!!!! and we america are ready for the change. OBAMA/BIDEN2008!!!!

Danielle   October 12th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

John McCain wishes he could beat Obama in a debate. If he could beat Obama he would of done it in he past 2 debates, and he wouldn't of went to the tactical smear methods to try to take people's mind off the fact that he lost the debates.

Xavier   October 12th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Whip … I find such language terrible. McCain's lost the election and do himself and the country a final service, it would be best for him to stop using language that has such clearly racial overtones!!!! He would best be served by putting civility into his campain!

Big mouth, old man! Do I need to get my soap ?

Ari   October 12th, 2008 9:55 pm ET

Oh Puhleeeez. McCain, you are pathetic. You want to know why you are down? Because all you do is go on personal attacks. You have not told us how you are going to solve Iraq. You have not told us how you are going to solve the economic crisis. Your healthcare plan will destroy it. Get real. You are going down and hard.

OH   October 12th, 2008 9:54 pm ET

Thanks John, first of all you gotta win the election. The way it is going as we can and will see; there is a Tsunami coming and November 5th. this country will be mostly blue.

Do you know the movie V for vendetta? Yeah John, we'll be saying: Remember, remember the 5th. of November. There will be no gun powder treason though…just voters feed up of 8 years of Bush and you.

Marl   October 12th, 2008 9:53 pm ET

Careful!   October 12th, 2008 9:52 pm ET

Be Careful America. McCain and Palin is what fascism looks like in America. Note the rallies with law enforcement in uniform. Note the inciting of violent chants at their rallies. Note trying to attach Obama to terrorists. McCain and Palin's rallies are looking more and more like Nuremberg Rallies. The Germans never noticed the creeping facism in their country until it was too late,,,Don't let this happen to us!

Chemia   October 12th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

I have had just about all I can take from Sarah Palin. She's a liar and is willing to do just about anything to get her way, which is very dangerous. I watch alot of politics on TV and listened to a discussion about her future in politics and was shocked to hear that she actually might still have a career. After getting to no her thus far, I have to question her ability remain govenor at this point. I am just so unimpressed with her and McCain because I believe that they have sunk to an all time low, inciting hatred and anger at these rallies. I have completely loss respect for McCain, I am a veteran and I do not think he cares about us at all. He's a fake. Bottom line, they just need to state there differences, argue over whose is better but never promote hatred in the pursuit of division.

Lenise   October 12th, 2008 9:51 pm ET

What poll is he looking at????

The only thing he is coming up for is air because his campaign is sinking….

Obama Now More Than Ever   October 12th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

McCain you have no idea what honor and respect mean anymore. You have crossed the line so far into hateful, nasty and rage-filled campaigning that we are afraid of the violence you are condoning. You are irresponsible and reckless. You have no character, no integrity, are unable to open your mouth without lying and have lost the trust of the American people. Your one attempt to calm one angry person was ridiculous - especially with Palin out calling Obama a terrorist again today. You are a hypocrite and a very dangerous man. Stop the hate rallies you are leading and quit lying about how you respect Obama. You don't even respect yourself. You are a disgrace!

Republicans are liars   October 12th, 2008 9:50 pm ET

All I can say is that McCain/Palin are downright liars and masters in twisting facts. Palin said during in her anti-abortion speech that Obama said he doesn't want his daughters to be punished with baby.

Get the facts right, Palin! Obama was speaking in the context of sex education and not abortion.

It is either you are ignorant pitbull with a lipstick or purposely twisting the facts, thinking that the Americans are stupid. I would believe later because I believe you are much cleverer than the former.

The entire world will be laughing at US if McCain/Palin won. God bless America real hard if that happens!

Obama/Biden '08!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama is a descent guy. Otherwise, why would he not bring McCain's age issue into the campaign. If Obama's past history is fair game, why not McCain age? Does anybody care that he is too old to run for this office?

Michele, Pittsburgh, PA   October 12th, 2008 9:46 pm ET

Senator McCain, I wanted to support you, I really did. But the way you've run your campaign disgusts me, your VP nominee scares the daylights out of me, and shown you'll use any dirty trick to win. That's not the John McCain I supported against George W. Bush In the Republican primaries in 2000.

bob   October 12th, 2008 9:45 pm ET

Mc Lame is so out of touch he will probably think he won after he looses. I hope that Palin has the ware with all to break the news to him but she is so busy trying to recruit lynch mobs that she will have to be told as well. Regarding her beef against Obama, how can you hate someone so much that you never met. That lunacy! Not sound judgement at all. Obama came to her defense first by telling his supporters to leave her family out of the campaign and he has never attacked her personally, but she has been non stop inciting hatred against him. In her desparation, she is more like a Nazi with lipstick. This country is really in for trouble if mccain is elected and keels over in office God forbid. Who will tell her what to do if she becomes president? I bet not one of their voters can honestly in good faith say that she would make a good president or VP because they don't what the job requires, but common sense should tell them that it requires more than her credentials. I think from a judgement perspective that Obama would be better suited to be commander in chief. We don't need any mavericks or loose cannons in the oval office, we had 8 years of that experience….

Attack dog Failin is doing her level best to stir up the hatred in your base, but it isn't going to be enough. Not this time.

mike butler   October 12th, 2008 9:42 pm ET

Sen McCain sounds as if he is still in high school at a pep rally geting ready to play a football game Wednesday night. These debates are not about who wins and and does not win. These debates need to be reconfigured so that they have value to our country. I would hope our next President does not look at every challenge as if they all have winners and losers. My concern with Sen McCain the winners/losers mindset is a part of his hard wiring. We will need a President who will try to find a way to obtain common ground.

sal   October 12th, 2008 9:41 pm ET

McCain/Palin are selling "wolf tickets" and they don't have an agenda to back it up. McCain was also supposed to beat Obama during the first two debates and he didn't even come close, so makes him think he's going to beat Obama during the final debate? It's not going to happen.

I am an independent voter and not a party loyalist. I have voted for republicans most of my voting years, including John McCain (I was raised in southern Az). I served with the United States Marine Corps as an infantry officer with two tours in Iraq. I SHOULD be voting for John McCain…but I'm not. He has shown poor leadership and lack of integrity as can be seen by most of the articles here on the ticker, but that's not the reason I'm not voting for him. HE VOTED AGAINST US when he refused to support Sen. Webb's (Vietnam war era Marine infantry officer) GI Bill, a bill that Sen. Obama/Sen. Biden were co-sponsors of. He caved to anti-immigrant groups, when anyone who has served in a combat unit can tell you that immigrants fight for us with more ferocity than any hate-spewing conservative coward. No, I am not conservative, I am not liberal, I am an AMERICAN PATRIOT, and like so many of my fellow veterans, I support Sen. Obama. Not because he is the anti-Bush, but because he is a leader with vision, vision for healtcare, vision for intelligent foreign policy, vision for domestic economic strength, and vision for strengthening our military, vision that the GOP sadly does not offer. We have fought for your right to vote America, don't waste it.

Just like he "whipped" him the last two debates…by not stating what any of his policies are, not saying what he actually plans to do to improve our nation, our economy, health care, prevent job loss. I love how he threw in the line "I want to emphasize again, I respect Senator Obama" yeah after you've been caught in the act of sparking racism at your rallies and after you make the redneck comment, "After I whip his you-know-what in this debate". McCain has lost any integrity he had, I can't wait for a third night of Story Time with John, where we get to hear how he is a self proclaimed "Maverick", how he was a POW, and instead of talking about the issues try attacking Obama on worthless and false accusations. Please just go away you're making America worse. The only chance for change is with Obama/Biden '08!!!!

I hope they listen to you, John. You have taken the risks, proposed ideas, Obama has just sat back and found faults while proposing nothing. You suspended your campaign and went back to your job to help end the financial crisis, the job of a Senator, and the job of the next President. Of course you should have done so. Obama found fault with your doing your job.. We know fault finding is idiot's work. This is all Obama has offered.

Empty rhetoric that you are in fact George Bush (idiotic thing to say). He's for CHANGE. Surrendering America to terrorists would be CHANGE, but is it really the change we need? It's amazing Obama has gotten as far as he has on the emptiness of his message. I hope the thinking people in America show up to vote.

Bad news, old man. The idea is to LOWER debate expectations. If you say you're going to kick Obama's butt, and you don't deliver — which seems likely after two mediocre performances already — then you're going to look like you lost the debate.

Where are you on this issues. All you seem to do day in and day out is pronce on Obama. Whats your game plan if you cannot beat him on the issues then you go deep in the gutter. Clearly McPalin have lost their bearings. McCain critisizes Obama for declaring what he will do in Pakistan - "you don't say that do you?, you simply do what needs to be done", and now here he tells his opponent four days ahead that "I am going to whip you in a debate". After this McPalin call Obama double standards. Whom are you fooling folks.

Negative campagin won't give you credibility. It gives you back negative result.

McCain is looking completely ridiculous and has no where near the dignity and honor you'd expect to see in someone running for the White House. He is out of his league.

Former Republican in Texas   October 12th, 2008 9:25 pm ET

Four years ago I was ready to support this man. I thought he would be better than George Bush. Now I'm not so sure that would have been the case. And considering how BAD George Bush has turned out, that's kind of a scary though.

And McCain has become almost scary in some of his incoherent statements. I really question if he's starting to experience dementia. He looks & acts bitter & angry all the time. He makes wild statements. And he picked that nitwit Palin for his running mate. I don't think we can afford the risk of having this man in office.

Senator McCain continues to show his unprofesional, unpresidential mavercky ways. The problem is that he is writting checks that he cannot cash. But it is his way, just look at his carreer. Always out on the fringe, breaking the rules, and disregarding and disrespecting all involved. He is not well.

I don’t much agree with many of John McCain’s political stands or the tactics his election campaign are using. But a good idea is a good idea, regardless of who it comes from. McCain’s “suspend the rules for 401/ira withdrawals” idea is a good one. Many people (over 70.5 y.o.) wait until the last moment to make their annual, mandatory withdrawal. This year, waiting till the last moment might be the worst moment. Many people will take much larger than normal losses. Who knew February was as good as it was going to get? The idea is simple, FREE, and all it really does is waive extra taxes and penalties to the account owner. This is truly a bipartisan moment. Obama should endorse this.

G. Cobb   October 12th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Now this is funny. McShame whoopin on somebody? Wow

Oh please!   October 12th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

Go for it John, if you can
By the way did you hear what Palin was saying this afternoon? It was more of the same hate mongering so you better talk to her first

linda from South Dakota   October 12th, 2008 9:18 pm ET

BIG TALK,,,, MCCAIN,, LETS SEE YOU DO THE WALK,,(GET THE VOTES),,,, KEEP LYING,, OK?? ITS VER IMPRESSIVE,,,, ADVICE MCCAIN,, RETIRE= IT IFTS YOU WELL,,,,, OBAMA,,BIDEN,,08

Mike from FL   October 12th, 2008 9:17 pm ET

He is trying to guarantee a win on Sunday, but I think he will have a few Senior moments that will keep him from whipping "That One"

Andinet   October 12th, 2008 9:17 pm ET

Full of ambition poor MC Bush!!

Ell   October 12th, 2008 9:17 pm ET

Go John!

Maggie Cole   October 12th, 2008 9:16 pm ET

John McCain continues with the school yard bully talk. So far he hasn't whipped anyone but carry on McCain as you consider this a war of brawn. H'mmm I was under the impression that a debate requires intelligence not fists.

johnrj08   October 12th, 2008 9:16 pm ET

God help us all if this guy and his empty-headed runniing mate win this election. The only way he can win is if there is a low voter turn out. People need to get their butts to the polls and keep these people out of the White House. Vote for brains, not for anger.

Your comment is awaiting moderation.
if one likes the Bush policies hire John McCain.
I was appalled that McCain picked Palin the most unqualified person to be Veep.
And the job they handed her was to be an attack dog. And give a list of attack subjects that she had no knowledge on.
And told her lying was ok. In Iowa here I have not found a single person, Republican or Democrat who thinks she has anything going for her. The names they use to describe her almost fit a porn star,
I guess we are not big city folk out here. One Republican said "if McCain wins and dies and we ger her our country is doomed"
Pretty scary but he said she knows nothing about the WORLD. She would be worse than Roosevelt waas at Yalata when Russia took advantage of a sick man.

American Citizen   October 12th, 2008 9:13 pm ET

Now McSame wants to change the tone of his campaign. First it was bash Obama, now it's be polite to Obama but kick is Aspen. Oh you get what I'm saying.

Diane Dagenais Turbide   October 12th, 2008 9:13 pm ET

America wants a different vision and knowledge and the language used reflect the samel old vision and knowledge.

Susie   October 12th, 2008 9:12 pm ET

Like when is he going to start his respectable campaign. Haven't seen any of it yet! Between McCain and Palin, I can't wait for the elections to see their butts kicked! Real hard, I hope!

Josh from Florida   October 12th, 2008 9:12 pm ET

Whoop his you know what?

Did he just not feel like winning the first two debates?

Republican for change   October 12th, 2008 9:12 pm ET

Typical McCain — All talk….but when it's time to deliver…nothing.

Before 2nd debate:

"I challenge you to 10 town hall debates!"
"Town hall is McCain's strongest format"

What happened?

Marcel   October 12th, 2008 9:12 pm ET

I'm a bit confused by McCain's comment in the last paragraph, "The economy has hurt us a little bit in the last week or two, but in the last few days we've seen it come back up because they want experience, and they want knowledge and they want vision." Never mind that he still 'doesn't get it ' about the economy, "The economy has hurt us a little bit in the last week or two,… A little bit, please?

Now to my confusion, who exactly is "they" as in, "they want experience, and they want knowledge and they want vision." His sentence starts by talking about the "little hurt" Americans have suffered over the last few weeks with the biggest financial meltdown since 1929 and he is telling us that "in the last few days we've seen it come back up because they want experience, and they want knowledge and they want vision." Who are they and what do they have to do with the economy coming back up in the last few days????

If anyone has an idea of what John McCain is talking about in the last paragraph, please post it.

Chipster   October 12th, 2008 9:12 pm ET

Well, McCain still won't have to look Obama in the eye if he's focused on his you-know-what! I wonder if McCain will actually address the issues or if he'll have the nerve to repeat the lies his campaign has used in Palin's appearances. Maybe he'll try to tell us again about the bridge to nowhere. He surely won't talk about health care, the economy, education, energy, or the environment. In that battle of wits, McCain is unarmed.

mmd   October 12th, 2008 9:11 pm ET

Why would a mother subject her two little girls to that. They totally dejected palin. At some point you have to ask yourself if palin is an unfit mother. I am sure that she knew that the crowd could and would act the way that they did. I felt sorry for those two little gilrs who looked so confused and afraid.

palin is political trash.

hometowndemocrat   October 12th, 2008 9:11 pm ET

Did he really say his "you know what"?????

I knew he looked familiar, he's the guy that played Wally on Leave It To Beaver isn't he!

No, that can't be right, he would have been too old to play Wally.

Bring it on Grandpa   October 12th, 2008 9:11 pm ET

This debate can you please stay put in your place. Your meanadering and shuffling around the stage last time was distracting! Barack has nothing to fear from you!

Thomas   October 12th, 2008 9:11 pm ET

yeah right JC

Retired Military Wife   October 12th, 2008 9:10 pm ET

"The economy has hurt us a LITTLE BIT?" Once again, you are out of touch and will soon be out of time. I have lost all respect for you and the hate filled campaign you are running. You need to shut Palin down NOW. Her rhetoric is pathetic.

OBAMA/BIDEN'08   October 12th, 2008 9:10 pm ET

HEY OLD SCUM, YOU HAD TO CHANCES AND HE STILL WHOP YOUR YOU-KNOW-WHAT. THERE'S NO WAY YOU'RE GONNA GET HIM THIS TIME. NO WAY, NOW HOW, NOT EVEN CLOSE MCSLIME!

McCain/Palin is the real bridge to nowhere   October 12th, 2008 9:10 pm ET

I think you have your mind all screwed up Mr. McCain. Obama beat you twice already, even though republicans can't admit that. He beat you in your best format, town hall. So what makes you so sure you will win this debate? i feel an "Obama win" coming on. Get ready America, the first black president is going to be a landslide.
Obama/Biden '08

Francheska Georgia   October 12th, 2008 9:10 pm ET

cmc   October 12th, 2008 9:09 pm ET

will Sarah be there with you? you haven't whupped his a.. yet, what makes you think you can do it now? Now you have to face "that one" when you say something derogatory//////////can't wait.

The Truth   October 12th, 2008 9:09 pm ET

Like he did in the last 2 debates?

lol wasn't he preaching, in the 2nd debate, to speak softly and carry a big stick. Looks like he forgot about his "hero's" words.

JulesT   October 12th, 2008 9:09 pm ET

Oh that is real mature of someone who wants to be president; what did he take a play out of Bushisms, now we can have McCainisms.

Melinda Branch   October 12th, 2008 9:09 pm ET

On his statement of "I'm going to whip his you-know-what",,,,,McCain doesn't stand a chance. It's obvious to the majority of Americans that McCain doesn't even know his head from a hole in the ground. And if he actually does, he should simply stick his head in the hole and go away.

I'm sure glad this thing is almost over. The lies and filth that McCain and his arm candy Palin are smearing around is simply discusting.

America needs intelligence. We need to fix our problems domestically and around the world. Obama and Biden are the perfect two men to get the job done.

supporter   October 12th, 2008 9:08 pm ET

McCain better come up with more than stollen ideas wo win the debate with.l Obama has the plan and can explain it to the people in clear terms. McCain just tries to use fear and lies. Amreicans need and deserve better. Obama has a better plan and can show the way. McCain can only follow. Palin is DANGEROUS sh eabused power to GET people she does notlike just liek Chaney. We can't afford 4 more yearsw of the same abuses of power.

Steve Perzan   October 12th, 2008 9:08 pm ET

Maybe so. But it is interesting. In the first debate — Obama won. In the second debate Biden won. In the third debate Obama won. If McCain does win does he claim victory after th Democrate would have won three out of four?

Sue, NY   October 12th, 2008 9:07 pm ET

Too late for repsect…you've already showed you don't have any.

Mary   October 12th, 2008 9:07 pm ET

You've tried twice and failed both times. The economy hurt people more that a little bit. Maybe you are speaking for yourself. You didn't have enough experience to pick a running mate and you're still blind to the fact. You are putting the people in harms way if you win the election.

Another Republican for Obama (this year)   October 12th, 2008 9:05 pm ET

Uh huh. Too bad saying it out loud doesn't make it true John.

R Wolf   October 12th, 2008 9:03 pm ET

Well, there you go again putting your racist language out there for all to see. McCain, you and your running mate are two scary people and if you're so good at debating, why have you been such a total loss at the last two?

Rose   October 12th, 2008 9:02 pm ET

McCain says he's going to "whip" Obama's "you-know-what" and thinks that's respectful? Either McCain has totally lost his mind, or he's speaking in racist "code," or both. In any case, he's lost any shred of dignity he might once have had.

T in Kzoo   October 12th, 2008 9:02 pm ET

McCain couldn't whip his way out of a wet paper bag.

Give it up man. The fat lady is warming up her vocal chords.

Alvin   October 12th, 2008 9:00 pm ET

McCain is all talk and no substace. Look at the townhall format which was supposed to be his strong suit. He got schooled by Obama in both foreign and domestic policy.

vlav   October 12th, 2008 8:59 pm ET

YES! please do something! We can not let someone this out of the mainstream become president.
McCain, we need you to win. Can you imagine the judges that Obama would appoint?
Can you imagine how the government would grow? Government needs LESS power, not more.

Jeb   October 12th, 2008 8:58 pm ET

If you respect Senator Obama, you'd better pull your VP off of the hate wagon.

john   October 12th, 2008 8:57 pm ET

i think it's too late for mccain to play the "i always respected him" card. he"d said and done too much to make it seem sincere. plus it makes him seem as erratic as obama says he is.

Beth Woods   October 12th, 2008 8:55 pm ET

You wouldnt know a respectful race if it bit you in the "you know what". You lost any respect I had for you when you allow Palin to continue to suggest that he's a terrorist. Put a leash on your pitbull, or give her different lies to spread.

Jim S.   October 12th, 2008 8:54 pm ET

Well see about that! When the Clintons cover the swing states with Biden and the debate is over on Wednesday night….. we'll see. McCain is still going to have to deal with fallout from the "troopergate" investigation and it's results, the fact that his wife maintained a investment relationship with Charles Keating for 11 years after the McCain investigation, his ties with David Ifshin, a dissent, and his ties with Wall Street bankers and lobbyists. McCain is nothing more than another George "king" Bush and in fact, worse! He has traded whatever honor he once had for the gutter in this political race.

melissa   October 12th, 2008 8:54 pm ET

I dont see to much respect coming from your VP nominee!!

Lisa   October 12th, 2008 8:53 pm ET

So Senator McCain is saving his best performance for last? Kind of how Governor Palin was saving her answers in the Katie Couric interview?

petena   October 12th, 2008 8:53 pm ET

Presidential language! You are a great role model for our children! How many things you have said you were going to do and didn't. See you on Wednesday. Ohm, and I want YOU to tell Obama striaght to his face that he is a terrorist. coward!

bobby   October 12th, 2008 8:53 pm ET

Yeah, because he knows how to win debates. Just like he know how to catch Bin Laden,…and just like he knows how to win wars…and fix the economy…what a sad, sad man.

Sharon Browning   October 12th, 2008 8:51 pm ET

John McCain has come from behind after numerous setbacks along the way and is still going strong, I feel he will pull ahead once again in spite of Acorn and the economy. I am impressed to see educated Americans putting the race card in the closet where it belongs and judging both candidates on their ability to lead the country.

UNITING   October 12th, 2008 8:49 pm ET

McCain we want you to tell us DURING the DEBATE about your VP pick regarding her ABUSE OF POWER and Compliance with the code of ethics……A legislative investigation has concluded that Gov. Sarah Palin abused her power in pushing for the firing of an Alaska state trooper who was once married to her sister, or by failing to prevent her husband Todd from doing so. The report says Palin failed to reign in her husband's inappropriate efforts to use the governor's office to contact trooper employees in his attempts to have Wooten fired.

How many years has this man been in Politics? And he's just now decided he wants to "change things in Washington?"

McCain is the past and Palin is dangerous. Obama/Biden is the future and what America needs in this time of crisis.

Amy   October 12th, 2008 8:47 pm ET

Bring it on, old man, bring it on!!

The only way that you even have a chance to beat Obama is if you come up with something (ANYTHING!) at the debate that states you know how to fix our economy and this is the plan. Since you obviously have no plan, you will lose in November.

What a way for the could-be next President of the United States to talk - it is obvious that McCain has been hanging around with Palin and picking up on her trash talk. I will be so glad when this campaign is over - with hopefully Obama in the White House! I did not find McCain so terribly objectionable until he added Palin to the ticket - and now everytime I see/hear McCain, I think about Palin and just about get sick!!! I cannot believe that it is even a remote possibility that Palin could get into the White House in any position - much less in a position that could one day lead to the Presidency! What must the rest of the world think about us - with Palin now in a leadership role!!!

voting Obama   October 12th, 2008 8:46 pm ET

Thanks for acknowledging that you have not won a debate so far and doubt if you will win this one!

funshe   October 12th, 2008 8:45 pm ET

He can only brag when he is not facing Obama. Foolish statement

No McCain/Palin   October 12th, 2008 8:43 pm ET

I want a man with honesty, intelligence, and someone who realizes that everyone does not make five million a year. McCains experience hasn't gotten us anywhere…..where is Osama….if he knows how to catch him. Why are we still in Iraq …if he knows how to win wars. Why is the economy such a mess….if he knows how to fix it. McCains experience doesn't count for much, not if Bush was his primary teacher. As for Palin…she isn't worth my time.

Sick of Them Both   October 12th, 2008 8:43 pm ET

Senator McCain, please stop the trash talk. Haven't you and Sarah Palin caused enough trouble? Don't worry about whipping Senator Obama ( and please tell us you are not thinking in slave master terms), just tell your side honestly and be straightforward. Let the American public make up its mind without the hysterics. Try to hold onto some shred of your dignity.

Becky in Indiana   October 12th, 2008 8:42 pm ET

On top of being out of touch McCain can;t do math.

Jamie   October 12th, 2008 8:42 pm ET

No Mr. McCain, if the first two debates are any indication, I believe Obama will be whipping YOUR you-know-what.

Bridget   October 12th, 2008 8:39 pm ET

Respect Obama? Conduct a respectful race? Oops, Governor Palin didn't get that memo.

voter   October 12th, 2008 8:39 pm ET

first, McCain needs to look at Obama in order to kick his you know what. Considering that McCain does not like to look at Obama I doubt McCain will kick Obama's you know what. Second, McCain needs to have a coherent plan for the economy. considering that he believes the economy is okay and does not understand it, I doubt McCain can even last talking 90 minutes about the economy.

Bond_dallas   October 12th, 2008 8:37 pm ET

They don't want experience, senator, they want Change. We want Change. Can you make that happen after 26 years in the senate? Nope! Obama will have to do for me. Thanks John. Goodbye.

Well, that would be a FIRST- since he lost the first two so badly to Obama!

John in Gig Harbor   October 12th, 2008 8:32 pm ET

I would not have chosen the word "whip". Not good. McCain needs to give up and go home. His health will not hold out through a presidency, and that is dangerous for the whole world. The desire to be president should not be put before Country. John's motto needs to be "White House First".

America loves you John, but we don't want you to be our next president. We just can't take another 4 years of failed Bushenomics, nor do we want to see you die in office and let Sarah run the country. She's a dingbat!

What a joke the McCain/Palin ticket is.

Obama/Biden '08!

SDunn   October 12th, 2008 8:28 pm ET

All I can say is McCain better be ready to justify his illegal ties to ciminals over the years, Gordon Liddy is one that comes to mind. If he thinks he's going to bring up garbage at the debate he better be ready to tell us why he was part of a racist organization, why his wife has close ties to Keating still, and why he has close ties to Gordon Liddey who was prosecuted for kidnapping and robbery.

Elle   October 12th, 2008 8:28 pm ET

Saying you want to conduct a respectful race does not negate the disrespectful and often outright false remarks you and your running mate have expressed since the last debate.

soulstar   October 12th, 2008 8:24 pm ET

what happened during the last two debates?? talk is cheap…unless it's a debate i guess.
i used to respect mccain and was even content with the thought of a mccain presidency during the early days of the campaign. it is now clear that mccain will do *anything* to win this election, including throwing his reputation under the bus. what an angry, bitter, old man he has transformed into…not the bastion of bravery and independence i once thought of him as.

Sgt C   October 12th, 2008 8:23 pm ET

If I were Senator McCain I wouldn't be holding my breath waiting for that to happen. Obama only needs a draw to win, and he's been performing better than drawish in the last two debates.

henrietta   October 12th, 2008 8:22 pm ET

it is good that some laughter can come out of this race, but i have to say mr. mccain we dems are going to win this race.

M. Porter   October 12th, 2008 8:22 pm ET

McCain is a Republican. Republicans have been in office for the last 8 years and our country is going down the tubes. America can not continue on this same path. It's time for a change. I don't see this Republican ticket as good for our country.

Sorry, Senator McCain, this is not a race that you should win.

RED EYES   October 12th, 2008 8:22 pm ET

He is lying again.

Brian   October 12th, 2008 8:21 pm ET

John McCain never provides specifics about anything. "Americans can fix this". "I can find Bin Laden, I know how to find him. I'll get him". and now, I'll beat Obama. When he speaks like this, he never has to provide any logical reaslns, or evidence.
But the talk does not make it true.
He won't look Obama in the eye, and waits until after the debate to accuse Obama of the most heinous things. No wonder he doesn't want to tallk with his enemies … he can't.

Big D   October 12th, 2008 8:20 pm ET

How can anyone consider McCain to have a Presidential temperment? He's too impulsive, and bounces from tactic to tactic without an overall strategy, and is willing to give up his integrity to take the low-road with smear attack ads. He picked a VP candidate without vetting her, and without truly considering the consequences. Obama has shown again and again that he's steady and has the strength and the temperment to be President.

Suval   October 12th, 2008 8:19 pm ET

We'll see come Wednesday night but my impression, based on what we have seen so far, is that McCain ought to watch his mouth. Less rhetoric and more substance would have gotten him further.

Jackee   October 12th, 2008 8:19 pm ET

McCain and his running mate have the ones running a dirty campaign and now they are trying to say they have not and how much he respects Senator Obama. We know he does not respect him nor does his running mate. All I can say is God help us if those two win on Nov. 4. We are going to lose everything.

Diane, NJ   October 12th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

Hey John ~ At this point I don't think that you should be making predictions on winning anything, you'll only make yourself look even sillier.

Iqbal Alam   October 12th, 2008 8:17 pm ET

As an observer of this campaign, I have to say John McCain's disrespect of his opponent is thoroughly distressing to watch. Not only does it demean McCain, it demeans America, American politics and America's politicians. McCain is doing irreparable harm to America's image and, of course, to his own chances of being elected, which have already been diminished by his choice of running mate.

What is it that makes McCain choose language like "After I whip his you-know-what"!! I have never come across anything quite as unbecoming!

Daniel - GA   October 12th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

"We will conduct a respectful race, and we will make sure that "Everybody else does, too."

Are you kidding? Since when is he conducting a respectful race? He lies every chance he gets and all he can say in terms of policy is "I know what it takes to turn the economy around and I'll do it if I'm President." Well, John McCain, why don't you just go ahead and tell us exactly what you're going to do?

jonathan   October 12th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

Does anyone else think that a presidential candidate talking like that is rather unbecoming and ridiculously unpresidential…

J   October 12th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

Okay McCain, lets see how much you know Nov. 5th.

mitch   October 12th, 2008 8:13 pm ET

i dont think so john. but, i hope you do keep it respectable from here on out.

lou   October 12th, 2008 8:12 pm ET

McCain is going to do VERY well. Its obvious.

Ann   October 12th, 2008 8:12 pm ET

I don't know if McCain is right in this game, but .. Obama is totally wrong for America. His interpretation of the American dream stops on the page that talks about affirmative action. Does he know anything else? His Chicago-built political career simply stinks.

yeswecan   October 12th, 2008 8:12 pm ET

Wow
this republican campaign is going down to the dumps. Use of vitriolic language first and now crude expressions. Mccain has lost it and cannot handle that he will lose.

OBAMA 08/12

Tim   October 12th, 2008 8:10 pm ET

Except recent polls are showing that Obama's lead is slightly larger than a few days ago.

Ivana   October 12th, 2008 8:09 pm ET

McCain just needs to be alot less agressive towards his opponents and answer in more mature ways

Another Liar   October 12th, 2008 8:08 pm ET

Does that mean McCain won't be looking that one in the face again?

Omisore   October 12th, 2008 8:08 pm ET

I can't wait to watch McCain get his butt whooped just like in the first two debates. The game is over. Obama will be the President..

Farrell, Houston, Tx   October 12th, 2008 8:08 pm ET

Yeah, right. McCain couldn't whip George W. Bush's you know what and he was a "C" student like himself. However, McCain is attempting to use Bush's "cowboy" mentality and that ain't gonna work either. We've been whipped enough by the economy and the war and we aren't planning on McCain to keep whipping us. Vote no to McCain.

maddie   October 12th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

He's going to "whip you know what and Sara Palin wants to "roll up the sleeves." This is not what Americans want or need in command right now.

Elbee   October 12th, 2008 8:07 pm ET

I'm not concerned about either of them winning the last debate, I'm more concerned about hearing real answers addressing issues we are now facing. We need CHANGE. So far Obama is the one proposing that.

David   October 12th, 2008 8:06 pm ET

Oh right. That must be why he "took the gloves off" for the last election. Don't want to rush this big whoopin'.

I'll be watching to hear if McCain starts swearing under his breath again, or maybe wanders away from the podium.

I agree we want knowledge and vision but not the type of experience McCain has demonstrated. I glad, going forward, he says he wants to run a respectful campaign, but both his ads and the speeches of his VP choice show this is either clearly not true ,or, he is a good leader even over his own campaign.
