Palin: Hockey mom experience on 'executive side' of the sport

Self-described 'hockey mom' Sarah Palin dropped the puck and Saturday night’s Rangers-Flyers game.

Self-described 'hockey mom' Sarah Palin dropped the puck and Saturday night’s Rangers-Flyers game.

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) - Sarah Palin seems to have slipped effortlessly into the role of John McCain’s attack dog - but those aggressive tendencies may have been cultivated many years ago as an “exuberant” hockey mom in Wasilla, where she used to bang her fists on the penalty box glass and demand that her son get tougher with his opponents on the ice.

At least that’s how she described her time as a hockey mom to Comcast SportsNet’s Steve Coates, who interviewed Palin after she dropped the puck at the Philadelphia Flyers’ season opener on Saturday night. The governor recounted how she used to embarrass her son Track by yelling at him from the side of the rink, telling him to play nice. But if he was going to play rough, Palin said, she gave him license to go all out.

“I was telling him be nice, and if you’re going to get a penalty, man, make it worth it!,” she told Coates. “Don’t just be picking on somebody. Grind ‘em into the boards! Do something that’s going to be effective. Don’t just be picking on someone.”

Palin said she soon put her energies into the “executive side” of the youth hockey team instead of shouting at her embarrassed son from behind the glass.

“I put my passion towards hockey to better use by becoming the hockey manager,” she said. “The team mom. You know, working on the stats, working on the management, the executive side of the sport, and hopefully that was put to better use. I was pretty exuberant.”

I suppose now that her "hockey executive experience" prepares her to be Vice President and heartbeat away from the Presidency. LOL

Palin got booed worse than a rival Philadelphia team. With here vast variety of reading she should be aware that Philly doesnt take kindly to people like her.... Philly wouldnt have booed her off the ice if she wasnt running such a vicious, low blowing campaign of attacks and no substance.

Is there any verification of this. I doubt everything that comes out of her mouth. She did tell us that she was innocent of all wrongdoing in "Troopergate" but she forgot about the ethics violation. Do we now look forward for Alaska upholding the law and starting impeachment hearing for her in her ABUSE OF POWER findings?

It disturbs me that some Americans and news agencies can not distinguish between negative advertising and bringing up valid points about a candidates resume. Senator Obama could stop it all if he would only be truthful and present facts, not more lies, about his past. Lets see an official birth certificate so that the law suit by Mr. Berg goes away. Lets see facts about the money given to Senator Obama by Ayers to use for educational funds and how they were used, even if it was use in ACORN and how. Facts with documents. Not just talk. Senator Obama needs to address his college years and not hide those documents, how did he get into Harvard Law School? Who endorsed him? The American public has a right to know the facts, including documents, that answer these questions. On Monday, new stories of a link to Kenya leader Odingo will be raised about his help with his violent campaign there.

I really can see that in Sarah Palin – do whatever you have to do to win!! That's what the lying, hypocritical, unethical attack dog has been doing since she arrived in the lower 48. I wouldn't vote for McCain based on his selection of this unqualified pit bull. Shame on you John, for putting 'CAMPAIGN FIRST' once again. I used to have alot of respect for you, but the negative, hateful, untrue accusations against Senator Obama have incited the violent and uncalled for rhetoric from your right wing base. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME ON BOTH OF YOU!

Why would a mother subject her two little girls to that. They totally dejected palin. At some point you have to ask yourself if palin is an unfit mother. I am sure that she knew that the crowd could and would act the way that they did. I felt sorry for those two little gilrs who looked so confused and afraid.

    palin is political trash.

how is this even newsworthy or relevant to the election?

sarah palin's best move right now would be to shut her mouth, but obviously that's not going to happen anytime soon.

First of all forget the hockey mom crap ,the report came out in alaska, Gov. palin is guilty of abuse of power , and other ethics violations,it's time for her to tell the American the "Truth" about it all also John MCbush needs to tell the American people the "Truth" about what he knew, and when he knew it,we demand the "Truth".

Hockey manager and PTA. Oh well neither McCain, Obama, or Biden have any executive experience so I guess that makes Palin the winner in that area.
Sorry Sarah I still don't want you in the White House.

So now we know that Gov. Palin proudly portrays herself as Junta, the hockey father from Boston. The question then becomes, do the American people really want to end up the same way as Michael Costin? The attitude displayed here is the reason teams have taken to making parents sign a pledge to behave themselves and only promote positive play.

That said, she is living what she preaches – if you are going to play dirty, make it count by being as dirty as you can.

You're the CEO of a major corporation, and you're about to hire someone to be your executive in charge of operations. You have two possible candidates: One has a degree from an Ivy league school, but was not born into it: they beat the odds and competition and earned it through smarts and hard work. The other believes herself to be qualified because she ran her son's hockey team. Your shareholders are getting nervous – who do you pick?

I have been a hockey mom but not in the traditional sense. I had to stop going to my son's games because of the vitriol atmosphere where moms are yelling at their sons to kill the other team. It is disgusting and these games seem to bring out the absolute worst in moms.

Well, if I were Palin, I wouldn't brag about being a hockey mom. Hockey moms may appear to be tough but they have been demonstrated a complete lack of rational thought and action when they hit the rink. Well the country doesn't need this kind of leader in such a volatile economic environment.

The only candidate who has shown he has the intelligence, thoughtfulness, leadership and calm needed today. He surrounds himself with the smartest people and listens to what they have to say. He brings people together, unlike McCain who is a divider.

Only Obama can help the country turn the corner and regain its strength and good reputation.
