Palin: Hockey mom experience on 'executive side' of the sport

Self-described 'hockey mom' Sarah Palin dropped the puck and Saturday night’s Rangers-Flyers game.
Self-described 'hockey mom' Sarah Palin dropped the puck and Saturday night’s Rangers-Flyers game.

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) – Sarah Palin seems to have slipped effortlessly into the role of John McCain’s attack dog - but those aggressive tendencies may have been cultivated many years ago as an “exuberant” hockey mom in Wasilla, where she used to bang her fists on the penalty box glass and demand that her son get tougher with his opponents on the ice.

At least that’s how she described her time as a hockey mom to Comcast SportsNet’s Steve Coates, who interviewed Palin after she dropped the puck at the Philadelphia Flyers’ season opener on Saturday night. The governor recounted how she used to embarrass her son Track by yelling at him from the side of the rink, telling him to play nice. But if he was going to play rough, Palin said, she gave him license to go all out.

“I was telling him be nice, and if you’re going to get a penalty, man, make it worth it!,” she told Coates. “Don’t just be picking on somebody. Grind ‘em into the boards! Do something that’s going to be effective. Don’t just be picking on someone.”

Palin said she soon put her energies into the “executive side” of the youth hockey team instead of shouting at her embarrassed son from behind the glass.

“I put my passion towards hockey to better use by becoming the hockey manager,” she said. “The team mom. You know, working on the stats, working on the management, the executive side of the sport, and hopefully that was put to better use. I was pretty exuberant.”

You have got to be kidding me! This woman still expects people to believe she is qualified to be VPOTUS because she handled "the executive side..." of her son's hockey team. I sure hope Americans are not that stupid.

OMG was this hilarious! The barrage of boos from the crowd. Perhaps it would'be been better PR to have her drop the puck at a Nashville Predators game.

Palin, an executive who according to a bipartisan Alaskan investigation, does abuse her authority, is no fine example of anything. Perhaps she should quickly go back to Alaska, resume her executive practice as a hockey mom and see if she can learn anything.

Interesting that you did not mention that many in the crowd booed Palin when she was introduced at the Flyers game. And deservedly so, after her past week of despicable smears and lies against Senator Obama.

Go back to secessionist Alaska and abuse some more power, governor!

Clarifying his remarks later Saturday, Lewis said his statement "was a reminder to all Americans that toxic language can lead to destructive behavior.

THAT'S RIGHT, LEWIS - "TOXIC" LIKE YOUR STATEMENT!

The comment "if you're going to get a penalty, man, make it worth it" says it all. Evidently this is how she felt when she abused her power as Governor. I, for one, don't want another unethical person in a position of power in our great country. This "hockey mom" mentality needs to go back to Alaska, if they will have her. I'll bet there's an initiative to impeach her beginning even now.

Wonder how she still thinks that people are buying into what she has to say. Good time for a change in eyewear so she can read that writing on the wall. Never thought that a person of this type exists.

Yeah, right. She was probably the executive in charge of praying to the right god before every game. I wish she would quit insulting our intelligence.

We devoted close to 15 years of our lives following and encouraging our 3 hockey-playing sons. The worst and least edifying experiences of these years came from watching ENRAGED HOCKEY MOMS AND DADS completely losing control , screaming at the poor referees, insulting the children on opposing teams, 'encouraging" their sons to "hit him" and frequently even yelling at their sons to "kill him".
I can easily imagine Sarah Palin being among the worst pf these so-called PARENTS.... Quite a role model in the EDUCATION of our children.
I don't even want to imagine such a maniac leading the government of the USA....What a SCARY THOUGHT!

That is so pathetic, the fact that she would admit such juvenile and low-road behavior and seem to even be PROUD of the fact that she is so devoid of true sportsmanship or positive character attributes in dealing with others with which she is in competition! he fact that she was found to have abused her power as Governor of Alaska is also very telling. Now, it's clear that she doesn't have a leg to stand on, so to speak, in her quest as the Vice President of the USA. Gambler McCain is NOT a sure bet either by a loooong ways. Surely between the two of them, they can see they are fighting a losing battle in this election. Most of the rest of the US sure can!
