Palin: Hockey mom experience on 'executive side' of the sport

Self-described 'hockey mom' Sarah Palin dropped the puck and Saturday night’s Rangers-Flyers game.

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) – Sarah Palin seems to have slipped effortlessly into the role of John McCain’s attack dog - but those aggressive tendencies may have been cultivated many years ago as an “exuberant” hockey mom in Wasilla, where she used to bang her fists on the penalty box glass and demand that her son get tougher with his opponents on the ice.

At least that’s how she described her time as a hockey mom to Comcast SportsNet’s Steve Coates, who interviewed Palin after she dropped the puck at the Philadelphia Flyers’ season opener on Saturday night. The governor recounted how she used to embarrass her son Track by yelling at him from the side of the rink, telling him to play nice. But if he was going to play rough, Palin said, she gave him license to go all out.

“I was telling him be nice, and if you’re going to get a penalty, man, make it worth it!,” she told Coates. “Don’t just be picking on somebody. Grind ‘em into the boards! Do something that’s going to be effective. Don’t just be picking on someone.”

Palin said she soon put her energies into the “executive side” of the youth hockey team instead of shouting at her embarrassed son from behind the glass.

“I put my passion towards hockey to better use by becoming the hockey manager,” she said. “The team mom. You know, working on the stats, working on the management, the executive side of the sport, and hopefully that was put to better use. I was pretty exuberant.”

And why is it that I'm not surprised by this attitude?

She makes a good "Attack Dog" because it's in her nature. Explains why she shoots wolves from planes.....gets rid of the competition.

Palin should have known better than to show up at a Philly sporting event. The unpopular is always sure to get boooooed. Philly fans are tough and we will quickly let you know when you are not wanted. I've come to the conclusion that the only people voting for McCain and Palin are the rich, the racist, the stupid and the naive. They are the only people with something to gain from McCain or who have no idea what they are voting for.

  10. Canadian POV

There is Sarah Palin dragging her kids around for another photo-op and request to go easy on her for the sake of her children. Instead of dropping pucks at hockey games and auditioning for SNL, why is she still getting away with not answering to the press? She should be grilled on the report that she abused her power especially in light of what she said in the debate about wanting more power for the VP.

Its true, most hockey parents are quite vile, disrespectful to the opposition and incite violence. The sad part is that they are injecting this into the games played by children where they are supposed to learn about sportsmanlike conduct. Her conduct of late is most unbecoming of the office she is running for.

Should McCain win, remember, it is conceivable this nut job could become the president and the whole world will suffer.

It is finally good to see that American voters are starting to have their fill of Ms. Palin. It seems her voice gets higher and whinier as the campaign goes on. I can't vote for this person.

This "hockeymom" is nothing but a racist who with her words of pure hatred will incite race violence. I cannot understand why Republicans still allow this woman to continnue and actually support her. She would have been great about 60 years ago during the time of segregation. Now, she is nothing but a hatred-spreading, violence-inciting embaressment.

  16. White woman of 63 for Obama from Day 1.

My hope is that Obama wins big. Sarah loses in Alaska! Sarah goes back to Alaska and loses the governorship. She has made a laughing
stock of Alaska. I vote for saving the Polar Bears and getting rid of Palin!. Sarah is not good for America.

Just think, maybe we will never have to hear the voices, or see the faces of Rove, Bush, Cheney, McCain, Palin, Hannity, Limbaugh,
Ann Coulter, and ROVE and HANNITY, ROVE AND HANNITY EVER
AGAIN!!!!. Who made them RICH! American let's not continue on this
    destructive path of horror!

Is this Governor Palin's attempt to become likeable again after the Troopergate findings?

I suppose she is trying to emphasize her executive experience with her administrative experience on a little league hockey team. That's a laugh!

Her armchair coaching of her son indicates what a control freak she is. Children's sports are supposed to be fun – I'll bet her son and the other parents would have rather she stayed at home on game day.

This was the dopeyest thing I've ever heard of. A hockey team publicly throws their support to a divisive political candidate on a losing ticket. Now we begin to see why the Flyers last won the cup in 1975: they're backwards thinking.

What a joke for Palin to use stat keeping and management as Executive experience. As usuual she grossly overstates her experience even in her personal life.I have been involved in hockey all my life and a twelve year old can manage stats. What a political ploy to use a volunteer hockey club statastition as Executive experience. It is obvious she lacks experience in anything if she uses that for her resume for VP of the free world.
